- [00:00:16.300]Hi. I'm Wheeler Winston Dixon, and this is Frame By Frame.
- [00:00:19.273]And I want to talk for a moment about the upcoming film, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
- [00:00:24.242]This is a film that's a team up film, but with a difference.
- [00:00:27.609]Batman and Superman are going to go head to head.
- [00:00:30.975]And the problem that I see with this film is that it is an attempt by DC to create the DC universe films,
- [00:00:39.242]But Marvel is way ahead of them.
- [00:00:42.504]And Marvel has been having characters for years and years... Spider Man movies, Iron Man movies, the Hulk films, and then the team-up films with the Avengers.
- [00:00:51.572]And so they have a very deep bench, but there are not so many characters in the DC universe,
- [00:00:56.970]Although some might argue with this fact.
- [00:00:58.909]But more than anything else, Batman v Superman reminds me of the final days of the Universal classic monsters... "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman."
- [00:01:11.872]I mean here we have a battle of the titans with Batman v Superman.
- [00:01:16.601]Zach Snyder is directing it, of course.
- [00:01:18.545]And he was saying that when he took the job, he pitched the idea that the two of them would wind up doing battle.
- [00:01:25.205]Ben Afleck is an interesting and controversial choice for Batman.
- [00:01:29.374]Henry Cavell, of course, will return as Superman.
- [00:01:32.559]But I wonder if this isn't going to this a little bit too early
- [00:01:36.608]because if you have these two battling to the death, or to a titanic battle, what's going to happen next? What are you going to do then?
- [00:01:44.538]Now, they have other films that are coming up in the DC universe... this one, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"
- [00:01:52.038]And then after that we have "Suicide Squad" which is already in the can, which is all of the DC villans all thrown together battling against things.
- [00:01:59.445]And then we have Wonder Woman. Now, Wonder Woman is a whole different topic.
- [00:02:04.100]There's a fantastic 2009 animated Wonder Woman film by Loren Montgomery, which is really much the bench mark for that.
- [00:02:11.809]YOU'RE NO MAN... NOT THE KIND I'VE COME TO KNOW.
- [00:02:16.001]And the Wonder Woman movie has gone through a lot of different iterations and problems and various different directors.
- [00:02:22.374]And right now, it's going to be Patty Jenkins directing, and Gal Gadot in the title role.
- [00:02:26.763]But Batman v Superman is really a shifting point for the DC universe films.
- [00:02:33.973]Will it work? Will Zach Snyder's vision be embraced by fans? Will it lead to something new or is it a dead end?
- [00:02:42.703]We don't know, but I think that a lot is riding on this. So for the DC universe, "Batman v Superman" is a big bet,
- [00:02:49.437]and the question of whether or not it's going to lead to new films in the DC universe is a real question.
- [00:02:55.498]I'm Wheeler Winston Dixon, and this is Frame By Frame.
