- [00:00:02.181]All families face challenges.
- [00:00:05.134]The Boys Town In Home Family Services Program
- [00:00:07.854]provides a road map that shows the way forward.
- [00:00:11.693]It's really been gratifying for me to work with families who are asking for help,
- [00:00:15.853]who are struggling; They could be our neighbors, they could live in our neighborhood
- [00:00:20.486]and say, "you know we're having a hard time here and we need some help."
- [00:00:24.677]Boys Town family consultants start by listening.
- [00:00:28.589]We go into the home,
- [00:00:30.421]we kind of listen to what the family feels that their concerns or problems or barriers are.
- [00:00:38.133]And during that information gathering
- [00:00:39.885]it really helps the family create the plan that they're
- [00:00:42.901]gonna work on going forward.
- [00:00:44.861]Family consultants provide information and support.
- [00:00:49.053]That's the goal for me is to walk in there and then leave
- [00:00:53.397]making them feel like things are better than when I showed up.
- [00:00:58.853]But how well does the program work?
- [00:01:01.469]A team of researchers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
- [00:01:04.949]is collaborating with Boys Town to answer that question.
- [00:01:09.141]We find out information through our research of the benefits
- [00:01:13.109]of having the Boys Town services versus families
- [00:01:15.765]who have traditional services.
- [00:01:17.813]It's essential, I think, to have the university involved
- [00:01:20.533]in this type of research to really be able to go at things
- [00:01:24.269]systematically and carefully understand the different issues involved.
- [00:01:29.405]Research will help Boys Town improve and expand the program.
- [00:01:34.153]When we know our program's at it's best,
- [00:01:36.272]we know that families are getting the best services
- [00:01:38.640]we can deliver.
