[00:00:13.495]From studying about the past, studying mistakes that have already been made.
[00:00:17.139]It deals with the life that we're living right now.
[00:00:20.555]I think it's just important to know not only the history of this country,
[00:00:23.894]but the history of the world, to really understand where things are at these days.
[00:00:27.415]And we need to understand history in order to fix what current problems
[00:00:32.496]are happening in the world and so we don't make past mistakes.

[00:01:08.018]I also do research with Dr. Gerald Steinacher, and he hired me freshman year as his research assistant,
[00:01:16.081]through UCARE, which is a paid undergraduate research program that we have here at UNL.
[00:01:21.912]It's been great, I've gotten published twice.
[00:01:24.166]And that's been probably my most valuable experience.
[00:01:27.732]I've had numerous opportunities to learn and grow outside of the classroom.
[00:01:32.253]I went on a study abroad to Greece this summer.
[00:01:34.840]I went to Uganda, Rwanda and Turkey.
[00:01:37.570]Having that global experience really just adds so much to your academic experience.

[00:01:45.049]So I'm hoping to go to law school once I graduate.
[00:01:47.407]I'm going to use my History degree and hopefully get certified to
[00:01:50.863]teach high school and secondary education.
[00:01:53.690]Being a History major is amazing and you can be a History major
[00:01:56.926]and you don't have to just teach, you can go into politics,
[00:02:00.323]there's a lot of people who are going into law school.
[00:02:02.331]And just having those boundless options is incredibly freeing and important.
[00:02:09.817]I would recommend Nebraska because it helps you become a better individual.
[00:02:14.361]I came to Nebraska because there's so many options, so many great professors,
[00:02:17.824]so many different fields of history, I could just get a taste for all of them.
