- [00:00:05.819]Tell me something
- [00:00:06.518]about your background.
- [00:00:07.939]My name is Kenny Roche.
- [00:00:09.439]I'm from Denver, Colorado.
- [00:00:10.698]My degree is a Bachelor of Science
- [00:00:12.978]in biology with a focus on botany.
- [00:00:16.499]Why did you come to UNL and the DPH program?
- [00:00:19.398]My interest primarily lies in sustainable agriculture
- [00:00:21.839]and small food production.
- [00:00:23.639]And the DPH program is what brought me to UNL.
- [00:00:27.439]And what I like about the DPH program
- [00:00:29.059]that is had a broad spectrum of courses
- [00:00:30.639]and disciplines that it covered
- [00:00:32.159]in a very generalized fashion.
- [00:00:34.279]And I think I can bring those skills
- [00:00:35.519]and that knowledge to bear
- [00:00:38.439]to what my interests lie in the future.
- [00:00:40.330]What do you plan to do with your DPH degree?
- [00:00:42.970]Well, let me provide some background first.
- [00:00:46.001]It is my belief that the current practice of food production
- [00:00:48.261]AG industry treating food as an industry,
- [00:00:51.501]and treating production of food as an industry,
- [00:00:53.381]is a flawed model.
- [00:00:54.421]It's dependent on fossil fuels
- [00:00:56.460]and we already know that's a limiting resource
- [00:00:58.001]and it's unsustainable.
- [00:00:59.341]Toward that end, I want to look for systems,
- [00:01:01.861]methodologies that are more sustainable and long-term.
- [00:01:05.780]Systems that provide wholesome,
- [00:01:07.441]nutritious food for all people.
- [00:01:10.331]So, it's my intent to take this knowledge
- [00:01:11.941]to go out into the field to teach, educate people
- [00:01:14.120]about sustainable food, and bring sustainable, wholesome,
- [00:01:16.881]nutritious food to those who need it most.
- [00:01:19.421]Primarily those that are hungry.
- [00:01:21.141]For example, the one billion currently today
- [00:01:23.541]that deal with hunger.
- [00:01:26.361]Thank you, Kenny.
