- [00:00:05.891]Tell me something about your background.
- [00:00:08.202]My name is Kenny Roche.
- [00:00:09.360]I'm from Denver, Colorado.
- [00:00:11.532]My degree is a Bachelor of Science in Biology
- [00:00:14.158]with a focus in botany.
- [00:00:16.413]Why did you come to UNL and the DPH program?
- [00:00:19.461]My interest primarily lies in sustainable agriculture
- [00:00:21.740]and small-scale food production.
- [00:00:23.831]And the DPH program is what brought me to UNL.
- [00:00:27.112]And what I like about the DPH program,
- [00:00:28.613]that it had a broad spectrum of courses and disciplines
- [00:00:31.416]that it covered in a very generalized fashion.
- [00:00:34.371]And I think I can bring those skills and those,
- [00:00:37.148]that knowledge to bear
- [00:00:38.156]to what my interests lie in the future.
- [00:00:40.171]What do you plan to do with your DPH degree?
- [00:00:43.067]Well, let me sight some background first.
- [00:00:46.459]It is my belief that the current practice of food production,
- [00:00:48.933]ag industry, treating food as an industry,
- [00:00:51.514]and treating production of food as an industry,
- [00:00:53.198]is a flawed model.
- [00:00:54.988]It's dependent on fossil fuels,
- [00:00:56.374]and we already know that's a limiting resource
- [00:00:58.043]and it's unsustainable.
- [00:00:59.694]Toward that end, I want to look for system methodologies
- [00:01:03.940]that are more sustainable and long term,
- [00:01:06.167]systems that provide wholesome,
- [00:01:07.518]nutritious food for all people.
- [00:01:10.036]So it's my intent to take this knowledge
- [00:01:12.124]to go out into the field,
- [00:01:13.228]to teach, educate people about sustainable food
- [00:01:15.666]and bring sustainable, wholesome nutritious food
- [00:01:17.939]to those who need it most,
- [00:01:19.688]primarily those that are hungry.
- [00:01:21.290]The one, for example, the one billion,
- [00:01:22.834]currently today, that deal with hunger.
- [00:01:26.219]Thank you, Kenny.
- [00:01:27.039]You're welcome.
