- [00:00:11.730]CBA Honors Academy is a four-year comprehensive
- [00:00:15.714]business leadership program that allows students to
- [00:00:18.826]really explore their business education both inside
- [00:00:20.922]the classroom and outside of the classroom in
- [00:00:22.834]an enhanced capacity.
- [00:00:24.393]Gives them small classes that are taught in a very
- [00:00:26.138]action based format.
- [00:00:27.730]So they learn, but they also immediately do something
- [00:00:30.314]with what they've learned.
- [00:00:31.426]I think I'm learning a lot more being able to work in
- [00:00:33.674]this close group; we do a lot of group projects and we
- [00:00:36.546]learn how to interact with people with different skill sets.
- [00:00:38.818][It also did this in 2011 with the iCloud…]
- [00:00:42.314]I love the idea of hands-on learning, challenging coursework
- [00:00:45.482]and also just it was a way to make campus a lot smaller for me.
- [00:00:49.314][You know I thrive on being busy, one of the things I absolutely love about public accounting.]
- [00:00:53.554]Each month we bring in people to come in and teach
- [00:00:56.066]these students more about leadership in a very hands-on
- [00:00:59.002]approach, so those might be business executives, they
- [00:01:01.746]may be folks from our campus community.
- [00:01:03.234]And they talk about one aspect of leadership.
- [00:01:05.546]We then take that aspect of leadership and teach students
- [00:01:08.658]how to use it right now in their daily lives as college students
- [00:01:11.746]so they're intentionally thinking about that skill as they
- [00:01:14.562]progress into jobs and internships in the future.
- [00:01:16.738][laughter]
- [00:01:19.650]And we get to do unique things that different programs don't offer.
- [00:01:23.978]All of our students are required to either study abroad or
- [00:01:26.682]do an internship.
- [00:01:27.682]We have a lot of students that are excited to study abroad
- [00:01:31.362]and we actually have a study abroad scholarship that helps
- [00:01:33.034]pay for some of those experiences.
- [00:01:34.066]We visited a startup business, we visited a corporate business,
- [00:01:36.634]we visited government business.
- [00:01:38.570]And just being able to apply that into what I want to
- [00:01:40.482]do personally and even just finding an internship or a job,
- [00:01:43.114]I think that's really been crucial for me.
- [00:01:45.362]You're recruiting the best and the brightest in the state.
- [00:01:48.003]You're putting them in an excellent program and then
- [00:01:51.411]you're aligning with corporations to employ them and keep
- [00:01:54.770]them in the state after they graduate.
- [00:01:57.258]This is going to have a multigenerational effect
- [00:02:01.202]on business in Nebraska.
- [00:02:03.217][So here's a quote, we learn best in organizations…]
- [00:02:06.555]My favorite thing about the honors academy is definitely
- [00:02:08.570]the people, both faculty and students.
- [00:02:10.986]Our students are really based in wanting to learn and
- [00:02:14.122]grow themselves and the faculty are really looking
- [00:02:16.258]to facilitate that.
- [00:02:18.018][Lets go… laugher…]
- [00:02:19.378]Your classroom experience is so much richer.
- [00:02:21.506]You're able to go further with material.
- [00:02:23.195]You're able to move quicker through material and you're
- [00:02:25.442]really able to figure out not just how we do things but
- [00:02:28.218]why we do things and how that will matter
- [00:02:29.970]in the business world down the line.
- [00:02:32.138]I've been challenged academically with my business courses
- [00:02:34.546]and I've been encouraged every single day to
- [00:02:37.418]reach my full potential, so that's something
- [00:02:39.290]I love about the academy.
