[00:00:04.850]and I'm from Wausa, Nebraska.
[00:00:07.385]The thing I like most about being
[00:00:08.384]a Grassland, Ecology, and Management major
[00:00:10.384]is that it's preparing me for a career
[00:00:12.552]in working within the Great Plains.
[00:00:16.118]This summer,
[00:00:16.884]I will be working for a private contractor
[00:00:19.790]back up around home doing tree removal work
[00:00:22.720]and habitat restoration projects.
[00:00:26.551]One of my favorite hands-on experiences
[00:00:28.464]that I've been able to do
[00:00:29.444]as a Grassland, Ecology, and Management major
[00:00:31.891]is being able to do prescribed burning
[00:00:34.117]with the School of Natural Resources
[00:00:37.018]as a way to get career experience.
[00:00:41.018]I'm involved in the Range Club.
[00:00:42.761]Three of the things
[00:00:43.591]that I've been able to do at the Range Club
[00:00:45.091]is be a part of their Plant ID team,
[00:00:48.551]where we learn rangeland plants and
[00:00:53.464]participate in competitions with them.
[00:00:56.078]I'm also part of the
[00:00:56.918]Undergraduate Range Management Exam Team,
[00:00:59.584]which took first place at the national conference
[00:01:01.684]in Sacramento this year,
[00:01:04.210]and I also have been able to present undergraduate research
[00:01:07.777]that I've done as part of the Range Club.
[00:01:11.751]Some of the research that I've done as an undergrad
[00:01:13.707]is looking at different herbicide applications
[00:01:16.471]to nut undesirable grass species
[00:01:19.584]that are invading our rangelands,
[00:01:21.818]and seeing which herbicide works best for 'em.
[00:01:25.785]The class that's been most beneficial to me
[00:01:28.237]is the Grassland Management and Planning class
[00:01:30.945]taught by Dr. Schacht and Dr. Wedin.
[00:01:34.317]With that class,
[00:01:35.117]we were able to create a Grassland Management Plan,
[00:01:38.554]and be able to make decisions
[00:01:40.751]for what actually is gonna happen
[00:01:42.784]on some of these prairies that are around Lincoln.
[00:01:46.351]After graduation, I'll work for a little bit,
[00:01:48.884]and then start my master's soon.
[00:01:52.424]And then after I start my master's,
[00:01:53.764]I'd like to become a wildlife biologist
[00:01:55.518]or an ecologist within the Great Plains.
