- [00:00:09.648]I'm a student here at UNL
- [00:00:11.802]in the Doctor Plant Health Program.
- [00:00:13.894]Before I came here I was teaching high school science.
- [00:00:17.290]I taught for six years.
- [00:00:19.373]Before that, I went to Southern Utah University.
- [00:00:22.271]I grew up in Utah.
- [00:00:23.364]Both my wife and I are from Utah,
- [00:00:27.021]so, I got my undergraduate there.
- [00:00:28.863]I double-majored in History and Biology with a Spanish minor
- [00:00:31.847]so that I could go teach.
- [00:00:33.521]While I was teaching, I found out about the online
- [00:00:37.759]Master's Degree through UNL.
- [00:00:39.779]So, as I was teaching, I worked on a
- [00:00:41.499]Master's Degree of Entomology.
- [00:00:44.416]And then I was planning on going
- [00:00:46.479]and working as an entomologist.
- [00:00:49.335]However, I found out about this program,
- [00:00:51.266]and I looked into it, and I was really impressed.
- [00:00:53.470]And it was something that I wanted to do,
- [00:00:54.971]so I got into this program instead of going out and working.
- [00:00:59.819]Who told you about the program?
- [00:01:01.875]I was actually told by his name was Dr. Larry Van Tassell.
- [00:01:07.205]He was out in Utah because his daughter married my cousin.
- [00:01:13.490]And at the wedding he just kind of mentioned it in passing.
- [00:01:16.022]And I thought, "Wow, that sounds interesting."
- [00:01:17.771]So, I looked into it, and a month later
- [00:01:20.107]I started classes here.
- [00:01:22.612]Well, wonderful.
- [00:01:24.526]You are about halfway through your program.
- [00:01:26.980]Yes.
- [00:01:27.926]And what do you plan to do
- [00:01:31.211]with your Doctor of Plant Health Degree?
- [00:01:33.472]You know, I'm not exactly sure what
- [00:01:34.773]specifically I want to do.
- [00:01:36.394]I've got a lot of different interests.
- [00:01:40.453]Originally, I came in with the idea of consulting,
- [00:01:42.791]and I still see that as a definite option,
- [00:01:45.236]but looking at the program,
- [00:01:47.209]I see that there are so many options available, too,
- [00:01:50.635]that really what I'm kind of trying to do now
- [00:01:52.977]is take advantage of my time to try different things,
- [00:01:55.774]and see what I do like the most
- [00:01:58.470]and where I really want to end up.
- [00:02:00.443]I did some contract research in a past internship,
- [00:02:03.635]and I really enjoyed that as well.
- [00:02:06.355]So, I'm not exactly sure what specifically I'd like to do.
- [00:02:10.094]I just know that I want to be involved with agriculture
- [00:02:14.374]and with finding a lot of the problems,
- [00:02:16.990]or solving a lot of the problems we'll be facing.
