[00:00:08.799]I am from Lincoln, Nebraska,
[00:00:10.825]and I went to
[00:00:13.803]the university here
[00:00:16.128]and got my undergrad in horticulture.
[00:00:19.141]And after I graduated,
[00:00:20.771]I actually moved over to Tokyo, Japan,
[00:00:24.577]where I taught English for three years,
[00:00:26.433]and then for one more year over there
[00:00:28.501]I worked at this
[00:00:30.652]arborist/gardner kind of place
[00:00:34.352]and did a lot of Japanese gardening kind of work.
[00:00:38.225]And then when I returned to the States,
[00:00:41.034]I was looking for grad schools,
[00:00:43.273]and through looking through some of my references,
[00:00:48.404]I contacted some of my previous professors,
[00:00:52.895]and one of them suggested the DPH Program,
[00:00:55.700]and I chose to apply to this program because
[00:01:00.254]as a horticulturalist, we kind of look at, you know,
[00:01:04.211]all of the different aspects that go on with plants,
[00:01:08.339]and I thought this program really fit my interests,
[00:01:11.198]which is basically anything that affects a plant
[00:01:13.128]I need to know what's going on with it.
[00:01:15.059]So I thought the program covered all those bases.
[00:01:18.739]Graduating is actually tomorrow.

[00:01:27.111]So actually through this program I had
[00:01:29.341]a lot of opportunity to go to professional meetings,
[00:01:32.892]and just this last summer I made some
[00:01:34.503]networking connections,
[00:01:36.050]and I found out about a job in New York
[00:01:40.433]and applied to that job and landed that job,
[00:01:43.782]and so I'll be moving to New York City
[00:01:47.323]on January 12th next year,
[00:01:50.107]and I'll be one of New York City's foresters.
[00:01:54.150]So I'll be taking care of
[00:01:56.151]all the city trees basically.
[00:01:59.059]And that will include Central Park.
[00:02:01.039]That includes Central Park, yeah.
[00:02:02.352]My main station will be Manhattan,
[00:02:04.592]so most of the parks and trees in Manhattan
[00:02:08.250]I'll have something to do with anyway.
[00:02:11.130]Whether we need to cut them down
[00:02:14.062]because they're too sick to save or planting new trees
[00:02:17.934]or treating trees if that needs to happen, too.
