[00:00:07.268]That we don't really recognize our balance system and really appreciate
[00:00:10.500]what it does for us until something goes wrong.
[00:00:14.292]My research program is to better identify why patients have symptoms, complaints of
[00:00:20.212]dizziness and unsteadiness.
[00:00:23.076]We have individuals stand in devices such as this, our computerized dynamic postureography equipment.
[00:00:28.916]And we essentially test or tax their balance system.
[00:00:33.340]And we want to really tease out with our assessment measures how are the components,
[00:00:37.924]their sensory input for their balance system working.
[00:00:40.748]How well are they utilizing their eyes.
[00:00:42.460]How is that interacting with their inner ear balance system?
[00:00:46.132]How are they able to integrate all of this with information from the touch sensors in their feet?
[00:00:51.028]So we're really looking at overall composite of the entire balance system
[00:00:55.260]when they go through our battery of tests.
[00:00:57.556]We're trying to collectively put this all together to get a better picture of what happens
[00:01:01.188]after head injury and what happens when the balance system is affected
[00:01:04.716]due to injury or perhaps disease.
