- [00:00:03.230]What really attracted me to the chemistry department at UNL
- [00:00:06.012]was research first. You start research right away.
- [00:00:10.215]I like trying something that hasn't been tried before.
- [00:00:13.943]The most fascinating research that I worked on to date
- [00:00:17.927]is using nano structured gold. It's in collaboration with
- [00:00:23.023]two groups in engineering.
- [00:00:24.919]We are hard working and we are collaborative. I think
- [00:00:28.198]these are very, very important to build a department,
- [00:00:32.703]to build a university.
- [00:00:34.655]The chemistry department brings in the students and you
- [00:00:38.783]have a day where you interview with different professors.
- [00:00:41.975]Dr. Lai was one of the professors that I met with and
- [00:00:45.567]her research really just resonated with the science
- [00:00:49.527]that I was interested in doing.
- [00:00:51.999]She's very hard working, she's very organized and she's
- [00:00:55.088]willing to a lot of times give up her own research time
- [00:00:57.807]to help another student.
- [00:00:59.655]When I came in as a graduate student, we had these
- [00:01:03.695]study sessions at night and it really created a community
- [00:01:09.096]with the graduate students that has continued to this day.
- [00:01:15.455]The best thing about the University of Nebraska
- [00:01:20.231]Department of Chemistry is the community and the science.
