- [00:01:27.235]As a member of the Big Ten, we are among the world's leading research institutions.
- [00:01:31.231]We have a lot of different core facilities here that provide access to very powerful equipment.
- [00:01:36.479]They support you in traveling and going to present your work at conferences.
- [00:01:41.115]It gives you the practice that you need with public speaking. You get to meet collaborators.
- [00:01:46.218]Students have grant writing workshops that they can take, courses in mentoring students and the faculty experience.
- [00:01:52.707]There's very high expectations for you to be doing your work, but they are not unrealistic.
- [00:01:58.246]My advisers have been supportive, the chair of my department has been supportive
- [00:02:02.287]and the other faculty and graduate students, like, they want to see you succeed.
- [00:02:07.248]There are many graduate students and teaching assistants that are from France, from Spain, from Germany.

- [00:02:18.319]My first year here I met a group of people and we started this thing in our first year where every Friday we go out to lunch.
- [00:02:24.373]It's a wonderful place. I'm an avid biker, so I found a community outside of graduate school

- [00:02:32.210]There are graduate student associations. So my first couple of years I was part of the Black Graduate Student Association,

- [00:02:41.240]This is a very safe place and I really, really like that. In my case, I have a family. I have a daughter and she's
- [00:02:47.058]going to a wonderful school here in Lincoln.
- [00:02:50.032]Parks, the zoo, the Children's Museum; all these great things that are great for families.
- [00:02:56.259]I've been able to be a part of this UNL golf league.
- [00:02:58.756]Entertainment venues and restaurants and shopping.
- [00:03:02.386]I love the city of Lincoln. My experience has been great.
