- [00:00:01.338]The program will help students
- [00:00:04.298]to gain an international perspective.
- [00:00:07.038]And I think prepare them for, you know,
- [00:00:09.238]work in the international, you know, multinational scene.
- [00:00:13.418]A UNL student can get a world-class experience.
- [00:00:17.598]It is so revolutionary.
- [00:00:20.378]For students to learn about how
- [00:00:22.538]important families are in the world,
- [00:00:24.398]and learn how to help strengthen families,
- [00:00:26.639]is a critical need today.
- [00:00:28.686][Richard Bischoff] The Global Consortium
- [00:00:30.146]for International Family Studies is a
- [00:00:32.226]partnership of universities around the world.
- [00:00:36.968]The partnership is growing,
- [00:00:38.306]and so we're adding new institutions.
- [00:00:40.646]And so through this partnership,
- [00:00:42.306]we're able to offer this graduate program
- [00:00:45.086]in International Family Studies.
- [00:00:47.226]The course will be delivered using Blackboard.
- [00:00:49.306]It's totally online.
- [00:00:51.206]And so they'll be interacting with faculty and students
- [00:00:54.247]who have completely different experiences.
- [00:00:56.766]So learning is gonna take place from
- [00:00:58.427]faculty teaching students, but learning is also,
- [00:01:00.810]and I think the greatest level of learning
- [00:01:02.286]is gonna be from student to student,
- [00:01:04.406]as they process and talk about the
- [00:01:06.984]different concepts that go on in their countries.
- [00:01:09.825]And there're also possibilities for the,
- [00:01:12.405]you know, exchange, for the study abroad
- [00:01:16.566]through the Consortium program.
- [00:01:18.925]To have folks trained in graduate school
- [00:01:23.865]who understand all the ins and outs
- [00:01:25.926]of different cultures and about
- [00:01:27.266]how families work in different places,
- [00:01:30.425]that's a great gift to employers.
- [00:01:33.185]And the students could bring
- [00:01:35.425]their knowledge to the communities,
- [00:01:38.105]to their own community, and the businesses.
- [00:01:41.204]In that way, actually, they increase,
- [00:01:43.705]they help increase, the business,
- [00:01:46.066]and the local communities competitiveness in world market.
- [00:01:51.286]They'll be coming into contact with all
- [00:01:52.885]different kinds of populations, children, families, schools,
- [00:01:55.745]and it will just be a real selling point for them.
- [00:01:59.106]The person that's gonna take this course,
- [00:02:01.245]is somebody that works in an agency.
- [00:02:02.885]Whether it's they wanna go and work
- [00:02:04.526]in an agency in a different country,
- [00:02:06.164]or they work within their own country, with immigrants,
- [00:02:09.865]and they know that they need to
- [00:02:12.224]be able to understand that process.
- [00:02:14.444]This program can help not only
- [00:02:16.665]the students in Family Studies,
- [00:02:18.844]but also students in Food and Nutrition,
- [00:02:22.205]in Business, Communication, in Education,
- [00:02:25.945]in Marketing, in Social Services, Community Services.
- [00:02:30.025]It could really have the implication for many majors.
- [00:02:34.085]The University of Nebraska's been
- [00:02:35.486]strong in Child and Family Studies,
- [00:02:38.045]in the broad field of Human Development,
- [00:02:39.725]across the lifespan, for ages.
- [00:02:42.986]We're now working in Global Family Studies,
- [00:02:46.006]International Family Studies,
- [00:02:47.265]which has not been done before, to this extent,
- [00:02:50.424]and that puts us right out
- [00:02:52.654]on the cutting edges of university.
- [00:02:54.777](upbeat acoustic guitar music)
