- [00:00:00.000]Loreal: We went to Beijing, China, and also
- [00:00:02.742]Baling, China.
- [00:00:03.932]Katie: The first week we got to tour Beijing,
- [00:00:06.982]and then the second week we got to go
- [00:00:09.132]into the schools and look at families.
- [00:00:11.043]Jordan: And the students there were absolutely to me.
- [00:00:14.004]Just how excited they were to see us,
- [00:00:15.704]to meet us, to interact with us.
- [00:00:17.945]Loreal: We had the opportunity to visit
- [00:00:19.474]a farmer family.
- [00:00:20.795]They were excited that we were there
- [00:00:21.945]and talked to us and made us feel welcome.
- [00:00:24.524]Richard: The students, when they did their
- [00:00:26.025]presentations at the end of the course,
- [00:00:28.904]it was the pictures of families
- [00:00:31.245]that they were showing, and they were
- [00:00:32.884]talking about the impact that those experiences
- [00:00:35.605]had on them in terms of helping them
- [00:00:37.624]understand Chinese culture and helping
- [00:00:39.804]them build memories that would last a lifetime.
- [00:00:42.125]Jordan: I think that we gain a lot more by just
- [00:00:44.585]really immersing ourselves in the culture.
- [00:00:46.185]Katie: I was with professors that had been to
- [00:00:48.725]China and that were from China,
- [00:00:50.184]so they really taught us a lot.
- [00:00:51.845]Loreal: I met a lot of amazing faculty,
- [00:00:54.045]staff, a lot of students who were on the trip.
- [00:00:56.204]Jordan: It showed me how much I didn't know
- [00:00:57.945]and it pushed me to want to learn more.
- [00:01:00.305]Ruth: In order for our students
- [00:01:01.625]to be prepared and to become the leaders
- [00:01:03.684]in the future, we need to expose them
- [00:01:07.224]about the world.
- [00:01:08.785]Loreal: It helps you more professionally
- [00:01:10.905]and personally if you study abroad.
- [00:01:12.945]Katie: One of the funniest things was
- [00:01:15.205]climbing the Great Wall and not realizing
- [00:01:17.224]how hard it would be.
- [00:01:18.785]It was just great and exhausting.
- [00:01:20.785]Loreal: I tried a lot of food.
- [00:01:22.185]I had donkey, I ate a bug.
- [00:01:24.465]Jordan: The thing I think a lot of us looked forward to most
- [00:01:27.125]was at the end of the day when we would eat together
- [00:01:29.385]and we would sit around a giant table
- [00:01:30.865]with a lazy Susan in the middle,
- [00:01:32.064]make random jokes about the day,
- [00:01:34.445]talk about our stories.
- [00:01:35.584]It was absolutely wonderful.
