Bob Harveson, Nebraska Extension Plant Pathologist, has several plots of dark red kidney beans growing south of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center in Scottsbluff for a root study.

[00:00:20.560]different species of Fusarium
[00:00:22.660]and Rhizoctonia, and so it's a
[00:00:24.850]whole quadrant of things that
[00:00:26.970]can do it.
[00:00:27.920]But the seeds were coated with
[00:00:30.170]these fungicides, and then we
[00:00:32.510]put it in there when they were
[00:00:34.670]planted.
[00:00:35.700]And then we're just testing
[00:00:38.110]them now to see what happens,

[00:00:45.400]right now.
[00:00:46.060]They look pretty good.
[00:00:47.360]So for us, that's not what we
[00:00:48.950]want to see.

[00:00:53.080]pulling plants and saving the
[00:00:54.690]roots,
[00:00:55.200]which will be looked at back in
[00:00:56.660]the lab.
[00:00:57.740]for where the pathogen has come
[00:00:59.800]in and infected it.
[00:01:01.200]And so we're seeing, and I
[00:01:02.710]think you're gonna see stuff
[00:01:05.840]on a leaf, on a root this time
[00:01:08.150]of year, almost anywhere.
[00:01:10.680]But, you know, we just have a
[00:01:13.090]rating.
[00:01:15.680]I think it's zero to four, with
[00:01:18.840]four being just hammered
[00:01:20.260]and zero being nothing.
[00:01:21.460]So we'll put that in and just
[00:01:24.700]see how,
[00:01:26.680]much of the root was affected.
[00:01:28.740]Harveson said that would mean
[00:01:30.550]the fungicide could lead to a
[00:01:32.280]better
[00:01:32.600]yield for the plant. The dark
[00:01:34.480]kidney beans were a replant
[00:01:36.100]after the hailstorm on June 29th,
[00:01:38.560]which decimated many of the
[00:01:39.960]plots at the extension center.
