- [00:00:00.880]And so, Anthony, if you would
- [00:00:01.850]start us off talking a little
- [00:00:03.570]bit about the programs that are
- [00:00:05.430]offered through Center for Rural
- [00:00:07.520]Affairs and REAP.
- [00:00:08.840]All right. Well, thanks, Jenny.
- [00:00:11.060]And good morning, everyone.
- [00:00:12.990]Happy to be here with you guys
- [00:00:14.510]today talking about, you know,
- [00:00:16.190]what we have going on at REAP.
- [00:00:17.690]We have a lot of great stuff.
- [00:00:19.480]As Jenny had said, we've got a
- [00:00:21.450]lot of things going on with our
- [00:00:23.440]trainings. We've got so many
- [00:00:25.580]trainings going on right now.
- [00:00:27.600]It's wonderful.
- [00:00:30.000]And I really like it too,
- [00:00:31.590]because the silver lining, I
- [00:00:33.500]guess, to some of this COVID
- [00:00:35.330]stuff is going more virtual.
- [00:00:36.680]So we're able to reach a wider
- [00:00:38.120]audience throughout Nebraska.
- [00:00:39.900]And it's a little bit easier
- [00:00:42.130]for them to attend because it's
- [00:00:44.660]just logging into a laptop or a
- [00:00:47.100]PC or what have you and
- [00:00:48.750]attending the trainings.
- [00:00:51.320]And we've got a lot of great
- [00:00:52.640]trainings going on.
- [00:00:54.920]Jenny talked a little bit about
- [00:00:56.980]like the restaurant industry.
- [00:00:59.240]So we know there's a lot of
- [00:01:00.390]different things that go on
- [00:01:01.660]with the restaurant industry.
- [00:01:03.280]And we have a restaurant
- [00:01:05.270]academy that we've built.
- [00:01:07.680]So this is what it is.
- [00:01:08.800]It's a series of different
- [00:01:10.790]training classes that is part
- [00:01:13.050]of this bigger academy type of
- [00:01:15.300]view to like building blocks to
- [00:01:17.660]consider for different things
- [00:01:20.010]in the industry.
- [00:01:22.220]So the nice thing is that we
- [00:01:23.660]have different academies that
- [00:01:25.370]are sector specific. So not
- [00:01:27.080]only do we have a restaurant
- [00:01:28.570]academy, but we also have like
- [00:01:30.240]a construction academy, we have
- [00:01:32.060]a daycare academy. You know, so
- [00:01:34.250]we've got these, these
- [00:01:35.990]different academies that are
- [00:01:38.280]really, we try to make them all
- [00:01:40.450]encompassing. So, you know,
- [00:01:42.780]clients not only know what they're
- [00:01:44.640]getting into, if they're
- [00:01:45.970]looking to start a business,
- [00:01:47.540]but also, hey, what are some
- [00:01:49.100]tips and tricks if I'm already
- [00:01:50.660]in business?
- [00:01:51.760]on how I can do better. And so
- [00:01:53.760]a lot of our trainings are,
- [00:01:55.720]like I said, online, but they're
- [00:01:57.980]free or no cost, low cost. So
- [00:02:00.110]that's great. We really want to
- [00:02:02.410]try to get the word out there
- [00:02:04.440]as far as the availability goes.
- [00:02:06.390]And we also have different
- [00:02:07.850]trainings, you know, for
- [00:02:09.380]marketing,
- [00:02:10.200]for advertising, you know, a
- [00:02:12.830]lot of different great stuff
- [00:02:15.240]going on. And I'm going to go
- [00:02:17.710]ahead.
- [00:02:18.600]Jenny, am I able to share my
- [00:02:19.850]screen? Yes. Okay, perfect. So
- [00:02:22.490]I'm going to go ahead and share
- [00:02:24.510]my screen here.
- [00:02:26.040]Okay, and so I wanted to show
- [00:02:29.560]you guys here, this is our cfra.org
- [00:02:34.240]slash events page.
- [00:02:37.040]And so these events are
- [00:02:38.990]different training events that
- [00:02:41.800]are going on and that are
- [00:02:43.850]already scheduled.
- [00:02:45.820]So you can already see here,
- [00:02:47.560]one of our focuses is also to
- [00:02:49.140]reach the Spanish speaking
- [00:02:50.770]audience.
- [00:02:51.680]So we offer a lot of our
- [00:02:52.940]trainings in Spanish as well.
- [00:02:54.880]So here we've got, you know,
- [00:02:56.290]the academy, the restaurant
- [00:02:57.740]academy, we've got a marketing
- [00:02:59.480]academy, construction academy,
- [00:03:01.520]accounting, you know, we're
- [00:03:03.170]doing a lot of QuickBooks.
- [00:03:04.840]So I know that's one thing that's
- [00:03:06.790]been in high demand is the
- [00:03:08.220]QuickBooks training.
- [00:03:09.820]So yeah, these are some of our
- [00:03:12.050]upcoming ones.
- [00:03:13.420]So it looks like our next one
- [00:03:15.190]is accounting, sales
- [00:03:16.740]acceleration, business owning
- [00:03:18.920]basics, basics of bookkeeping.
- [00:03:20.880]So we have a lot of different
- [00:03:22.640]classes out here. So by all
- [00:03:24.590]means, feel free to share this
- [00:03:26.750]with your community members,
- [00:03:28.920]with your business owners that
- [00:03:31.330]you interact with.
- [00:03:33.180]And one thing I also want to
- [00:03:34.940]point out as resources that we
- [00:03:36.940]are to the community is just if
- [00:03:38.940]you don't see a training that's
- [00:03:41.020]on here and your community is
- [00:03:43.710]interested, we can set
- [00:03:44.540]something up for you guys.
- [00:03:46.520]We've got an individual, like a
- [00:03:49.640]focused training for our Kimball
- [00:03:52.720]area coming up.
- [00:03:54.500]So that's a focus specifically
- [00:03:56.370]for our Kimball businesses.
- [00:03:58.800]So we can do that for any one
- [00:04:00.250]of our areas, whether it's
- [00:04:01.760]Alliance, whether it's
- [00:04:03.140]Valentine.
- [00:04:04.000]You know, we've got a lot of
- [00:04:06.220]different classes that we can
- [00:04:08.640]do.
- [00:04:09.200]And if there's a need and we
- [00:04:10.610]don't have a class developed
- [00:04:12.150]for it, we're going to want to
- [00:04:13.760]look to develop that class.
- [00:04:15.480]So we're very open when it
- [00:04:17.370]comes to the classes that we
- [00:04:19.460]offer, the structure that we
- [00:04:21.730]offer them in,
- [00:04:23.460]And really just trying to be a
- [00:04:25.920]support system to our small
- [00:04:28.280]business owners throughout
- [00:04:30.740]Nebraska.
- [00:04:31.940]Because, you know, we know
- [00:04:33.250]times are tough right now.
- [00:04:34.600]And not counting, hey, it's
- [00:04:36.360]tough enough to be in business,
- [00:04:38.280]you know, for yourself.
- [00:04:40.040]Not considering COVID, not
- [00:04:41.300]considering all the challenges
- [00:04:42.730]that we have nowadays.
- [00:04:43.880]You know, so we want to do our
- [00:04:45.930]best that we can, you know, to
- [00:04:48.150]really help folks out.
- [00:04:50.040]So check it out, cfra.org slash
- [00:04:52.760]events. Again, if you don't see
- [00:04:54.810]a training that's on there that
- [00:04:56.300]you're interested in or, you
- [00:04:57.730]know, you get a lot of business
- [00:04:59.200]owners in your area, hey, we'd
- [00:05:00.740]really like this. We can make
- [00:05:02.730]it a concentrated event where
- [00:05:04.670]it's specifically for your area
- [00:05:06.760]or we can open it up. A lot of
- [00:05:08.680]different resources there.
- [00:05:12.220]So, yeah, so that's a little
- [00:05:14.850]bit about our training. I also
- [00:05:17.550]wanted to highlight this. Let
- [00:05:20.150]me make it a little bit bigger
- [00:05:22.720]so it's easier to see.
- [00:05:24.520]Hopefully you guys can see that
- [00:05:27.120]okay there.
- [00:05:30.140]So this right here is our
- [00:05:32.090]express loan. This is a fairly
- [00:05:34.560]new loan product that we're
- [00:05:36.410]offering here at the Center for
- [00:05:38.500]Rural Affairs. And it's really
- [00:05:40.750]aimed to expedite the
- [00:05:42.190]application process and the
- [00:05:44.130]review process and the approval
- [00:05:46.310]process as well.
- [00:05:48.060]to help small business owners
- [00:05:50.110]take advantage of some quick
- [00:05:52.080]access to capital without
- [00:05:53.870]jumping through a bunch of
- [00:05:55.370]different documentation
- [00:05:56.670]requirements and a bunch of
- [00:05:58.540]different hoops.
- [00:05:59.100]So this one, I've had a lot of
- [00:06:01.380]success with it, especially
- [00:06:03.770]when COVID started up until now.
- [00:06:06.640]This is the one that a lot of
- [00:06:08.180]my business owners are taking
- [00:06:09.960]advantage of, whether it's just
- [00:06:11.970]for a quick access to working
- [00:06:13.650]capital,
- [00:06:14.700]You know, to have something a
- [00:06:16.070]little bit in the bank to hold
- [00:06:17.370]them over through the winter
- [00:06:18.680]months, or if they're looking
- [00:06:20.200]to expand, you know, buy a
- [00:06:21.350]piece of equipment or they're
- [00:06:22.730]looking to start up a business.
- [00:06:24.380]This is a really great loan
- [00:06:25.920]product. So it's up to $10,000.
- [00:06:28.800]And the term is up to 36 months.
- [00:06:31.020]There you see the interest rate.
- [00:06:33.160]And what this is based upon is
- [00:06:35.450]going to be the income and
- [00:06:37.470]expenses that they reference in
- [00:06:40.060]the application, along with
- [00:06:42.460]what's referenced in the bank
- [00:06:44.850]statements, but also credit.
- [00:06:47.720]And the really nice thing, too,
- [00:06:50.350]is most of the time with this
- [00:06:52.330]loan product, it only requires
- [00:06:54.780]a UCC lien if there's a co-borrower
- [00:06:57.400]in place.
- [00:06:59.100]or they can put up a vehicle,
- [00:07:01.120]you know, and we can work it
- [00:07:03.060]that way. The thing I want to
- [00:07:05.360]focus
- [00:07:05.860]on is the collateral
- [00:07:07.090]requirements are very minimized
- [00:07:09.180]because the goal of this
- [00:07:10.620]product
- [00:07:11.160]is to get money out into the
- [00:07:12.700]community, you know, get it to
- [00:07:14.590]the small business owners that
- [00:07:16.490]need it
- [00:07:16.860]and not make it as lengthy of a
- [00:07:19.310]process. So really great. Again,
- [00:07:22.690]we continue to offer loans. It
- [00:07:25.250]says
- [00:07:25.560]here up to $150,000, but we've
- [00:07:28.190]actually expanded. We're now at
- [00:07:30.100]$250,000. So we've increased
- [00:07:32.780]our
- [00:07:33.120]lending limits. But again, this
- [00:07:35.250]one is up to $10,000. It's
- [00:07:37.650]designed to be quick, fast,
- [00:07:39.420]easy.
- [00:07:40.040]And I've had a lot of success
- [00:07:44.070]with this program. So I believe
- [00:07:48.890]I've seen
- [00:07:50.480]some comments. Let me see if
- [00:07:52.370]there's questions here. Oh,
- [00:07:54.440]okay. Great. Thank you, Jenny,
- [00:07:56.920]for throwing that out there.
- [00:07:59.260]And I guess I'll open it up for,
- [00:08:01.600]or before I do open it up for
- [00:08:03.680]questions, I just wanted to
- [00:08:06.310]thank you guys for taking the
- [00:08:09.010]time to listen to me. And if
- [00:08:11.500]you can
- [00:08:12.260]spread the word out to your
- [00:08:13.520]community members, not only
- [00:08:14.970]about our trainings, but also
- [00:08:16.470]about our
- [00:08:17.080]lending program, it would be
- [00:08:19.300]wonderful. Because the main way
- [00:08:21.840]that we stay in business and
- [00:08:23.860]operation, again, we're a
- [00:08:25.660]nonprofit agency, but if we can
- [00:08:27.830]show that we're providing
- [00:08:29.360]funding to
- [00:08:30.100]the community, that's what's
- [00:08:32.440]really helping us be able to
- [00:08:34.510]drive our goals as far as infusions
- [00:08:37.140]into the community with funding
- [00:08:39.240]aspects. So we kind of see the
- [00:08:41.260]trainings as an opportunity to
- [00:08:43.360]get in front of a wider
- [00:08:44.600]audience of business owners and
- [00:08:46.470]let them know, hey, not only
- [00:08:48.190]from
- [00:08:48.540]a support standpoint that we
- [00:08:50.110]have all this great stuff to
- [00:08:51.660]offer you from a development
- [00:08:53.300]standpoint
- [00:08:53.740]in training, but we also can
- [00:08:55.530]provide funding. And the one
- [00:08:57.450]key thing I want to provide to
- [00:08:59.240]everybody
- [00:09:00.020]is once they become a REAP loan
- [00:09:02.280]client, they have unlimited
- [00:09:04.550]access to contractors. So we
- [00:09:06.920]have,
- [00:09:07.560]whether it's a QuickBooks
- [00:09:09.060]contractor, whether it's a
- [00:09:10.710]marketing contractor, whether
- [00:09:12.580]it's a
- [00:09:13.080]any type of contractor, the
- [00:09:14.640]Center for Rural Affairs, we
- [00:09:16.260]will pay for that contractor
- [00:09:17.940]for the small business owners
- [00:09:19.800]to get that one-on-one help. So
- [00:09:21.900]to give you an example,
- [00:09:23.480]I have a small business owner
- [00:09:25.220]who they had their QuickBooks
- [00:09:27.000]set up, but they kind of did it
- [00:09:28.810]on
- [00:09:29.000]their own. They didn't set it
- [00:09:30.870]up too good. There were some
- [00:09:32.670]reporting issues. And so when I
- [00:09:34.700]started
- [00:09:35.320]working with them on a loan, it's
- [00:09:36.900]like, wow, we really need to
- [00:09:38.310]work on your books. Let's get
- [00:09:39.780]your
- [00:09:40.100]books in order. So that way you
- [00:09:41.640]can understand really how your
- [00:09:43.220]business is performing, but
- [00:09:44.540]also
- [00:09:44.860]set you up for success in
- [00:09:46.000]seeking funding down the line,
- [00:09:47.560]whether it's through us or
- [00:09:48.820]through a
- [00:09:49.420]traditional lending institution.
- [00:09:50.910]Because that's our goal. Our
- [00:09:52.110]goal is for community
- [00:09:52.940]development,
- [00:09:53.620]try to become, have the clients
- [00:09:56.590]become bankable. And so through
- [00:09:59.780]them getting a REAP loan,
- [00:10:02.280]we're able to provide, again,
- [00:10:04.230]one-on-one counseling from a
- [00:10:05.980]specific QuickBooks consultant.
- [00:10:09.040]And over a two month period,
- [00:10:10.780]they spent about 10 hours with
- [00:10:12.750]that one on one assistance. And
- [00:10:14.710]so these contractors, they
- [00:10:16.240]charge about $100 an hour. So
- [00:10:18.210]if you think about that, that's
- [00:10:19.880]over 10 hours, that's $1,000
- [00:10:22.500]that that small business owner
- [00:10:23.880]did not have to pay out of
- [00:10:25.150]their pocket, simply for the
- [00:10:26.700]fact that we were able to help
- [00:10:28.190]them and give them the support,
- [00:10:29.880]this one on one where they didn't
- [00:10:31.560]have to pay for that.
- [00:10:33.460]You know, so a lot of our small
- [00:10:34.960]business owners really love
- [00:10:36.430]that because they get that
- [00:10:37.760]expert one-on-one advice. They
- [00:10:39.560]love going to these trainings,
- [00:10:41.150]but, you know, you go to a
- [00:10:42.470]QuickBooks training, you go
- [00:10:44.000]back to your desk and you're
- [00:10:45.360]trying to mess around with it.
- [00:10:47.000]Oh, man, what did they say? How
- [00:10:48.780]do I do this? It can be a sense
- [00:10:50.240]of frustration.
- [00:10:52.460]So what we can do to help them
- [00:10:53.730]is give them that one-on-one
- [00:10:55.090]advice, that one-on-one
- [00:10:56.430]consultant, and they don't have
- [00:10:58.020]to worry about, oh, great, how
- [00:10:59.700]much am I going to have to pay?
- [00:11:01.320]You know, what are they going
- [00:11:02.330]to charge me?
- [00:11:02.920]You know, we can pay that on
- [00:11:04.070]their behalf.
- [00:11:04.800]So those are all different ways
- [00:11:06.470]that we can help support small
- [00:11:08.120]business owners.
- [00:11:09.240]But, yeah, once we can get them
- [00:11:11.460]with a REAP loan, they have
- [00:11:13.240]unlimited access.
- [00:11:14.820]And, I mean, our REAP loans are
- [00:11:16.220]as minimal as $1,000.
- [00:11:17.840]I've had a client, you know,
- [00:11:19.090]get a $1,000 loan because they
- [00:11:20.790]don't really need it.
- [00:11:22.140]but they wanted to have access
- [00:11:24.140]to the consultants.
- [00:11:25.680]They wanted to get that support.
- [00:11:27.300]So not only that, but it also
- [00:11:29.380]helps build their credit
- [00:11:31.280]because we do report to credit
- [00:11:32.410]bureaus,
- [00:11:32.840]we do some credit building,
- [00:11:34.210]some credit counseling.
- [00:11:35.640]So definitely a lot of great
- [00:11:37.120]stuff that we have going on.
- [00:11:38.800]That's just the tip of the
- [00:11:40.200]iceberg.
- [00:11:40.940]I guess I will open it up to
- [00:11:42.930]any questions, comments,
- [00:11:45.940]anything at all.
- [00:11:51.240]Anthony, thanks, first of all,
- [00:11:52.610]for presenting the information,
- [00:11:53.940]some good stuff there.
- [00:11:55.020]I had a question about your
- [00:11:56.760]interest rate. It seems like it's
- [00:11:58.540]kind of variable. So what are
- [00:11:59.880]your criteria? Is it just on an
- [00:12:01.630]individual basis, is credit
- [00:12:03.250]score and those kind of things
- [00:12:04.860]that you
- [00:12:05.380]determine what the interest
- [00:12:07.120]rate is going to be? Yeah, it
- [00:12:09.010]goes on a scale. So what
- [00:12:10.490]happens is once
- [00:12:11.520]a client, once an applicant
- [00:12:12.890]submits an application online
- [00:12:14.390]on our website, it goes through
- [00:12:15.920]an automated
- [00:12:16.520]review process, kind of like a
- [00:12:18.170]pre-qualification in a sense.
- [00:12:19.890]And it'll look at, okay, what
- [00:12:21.500]did the
- [00:12:21.980]clients put in the application?
- [00:12:24.610]Income, expenses, collateral.
- [00:12:27.480]So it's going to take a look at
- [00:12:29.610]cash
- [00:12:29.940]flow. It's going to take a look
- [00:12:31.470]at collateral. And then it's
- [00:12:32.940]also going to take a look at
- [00:12:34.200]credit.
- [00:12:34.840]Credit's the biggest driving
- [00:12:37.260]factor with that, obviously.
- [00:12:39.960]But the nice thing is that we've
- [00:12:42.480]got
- [00:12:42.840]some flexibility, especially
- [00:12:44.420]when it comes to the collateral,
- [00:12:46.030]because we know sometimes, you
- [00:12:47.600]know,
- [00:12:48.060]a lot of small business owners,
- [00:12:50.010]sometimes they have to get
- [00:12:51.570]creative with how we can securitize
- [00:12:53.820]funding. So yeah, that's kind
- [00:12:56.450]of how the process goes. But
- [00:12:58.610]before they accept a loan, it's
- [00:13:01.060]like a
- [00:13:01.680]pre-qualification. They'll know
- [00:13:03.150]the terms and the details, and
- [00:13:04.380]they'll choose to either move
- [00:13:05.640]forward
- [00:13:06.080]with submitting the documents
- [00:13:08.560]that are required to move
- [00:13:10.550]forward or they'll decide not
- [00:13:12.920]to go through
- [00:13:13.600]with it. But most of the time,
- [00:13:15.370]the interest rates have not
- [00:13:16.920]really been a sticking point
- [00:13:18.580]for the most part because if
- [00:13:20.000]they can afford to shop around,
- [00:13:21.690]you know, in a sense, most
- [00:13:23.070]likely
- [00:13:23.560]they already have an existing
- [00:13:25.300]relationship with their
- [00:13:26.680]traditional banking sources.
- [00:13:28.590]And our goal
- [00:13:29.360]is to try to get them to that
- [00:13:30.820]point or help them build and
- [00:13:32.510]expand upon that access. So,
- [00:13:36.080]Do you have preset terms like
- [00:13:38.030]our loans on revolving loans
- [00:13:40.040]can be 10 years on inventory or
- [00:13:42.320]those kind of furnishings,
- [00:13:44.260]those kind of things, 15 years
- [00:13:46.700]on a capital asset.
- [00:13:48.340]You guys have set dates like
- [00:13:50.410]that or does that also vary
- [00:13:52.390]with each loan?
- [00:13:53.780]It does vary.
- [00:13:55.580]We do have maximum amounts, for
- [00:13:58.340]example, like the express loan.
- [00:14:01.480]That can be a maximum of two to
- [00:14:03.310]three years.
- [00:14:05.460]Really, I try to position them
- [00:14:07.200]up from a cash flow perspective
- [00:14:08.950]to make sure that they can
- [00:14:10.360]afford the payment that we're
- [00:14:12.100]taking on.
- [00:14:12.960]And a lot of times, you know,
- [00:14:14.460]when you get into the bigger
- [00:14:15.840]dollar amounts, it is tied to
- [00:14:17.340]what the funds are being used
- [00:14:18.780]for.
- [00:14:19.240]So if it's being used to
- [00:14:20.500]purchase real estate, yeah, the
- [00:14:22.560]loan committee will most likely
- [00:14:24.260]be more likely to go out to a
- [00:14:25.770]longer term, 10 or 15 years.
- [00:14:28.380]Whereas if it's a piece of
- [00:14:29.760]equipment or a vehicle, we're
- [00:14:31.500]looking at the life of that
- [00:14:32.950]equipment or the life of that
- [00:14:34.550]vehicle.
- [00:14:35.460]to maybe go to a five-year term
- [00:14:37.500]or a seven-year term.
- [00:14:39.200]But again, the main thing is
- [00:14:40.980]setting them up for success,
- [00:14:42.900]you know,
- [00:14:43.200]setting them up to make sure
- [00:14:44.170]that they can afford it,
- [00:14:45.140]that they proved that they can
- [00:14:46.890]afford it. And, you know,
- [00:14:48.720]the term is variable and, you
- [00:14:50.290]know, we can work with clients
- [00:14:51.920]on that.
- [00:14:52.600]Yeah. Well, good question, Mike.
- [00:14:57.800]Anybody else have questions?
- [00:15:05.460]Okay. All right. Well, I'm on
- [00:15:08.370]the Rural Rendezvous email
- [00:15:10.790]chain. I like to pop in here.
- [00:15:13.390]So,
- [00:15:13.940]please feel free to reach out
- [00:15:15.680]to me. Let me know if you do
- [00:15:17.280]have any questions, if there's
- [00:15:19.030]anything
- [00:15:19.360]I can do to help facilitate,
- [00:15:20.880]you know, the training class
- [00:15:22.470]for you guys. If you, you know,
- [00:15:24.420]want me to speak at any
- [00:15:25.940]different events that you have,
- [00:15:28.380]let me know. I'd be anything I
- [00:15:30.520]can do to
- [00:15:31.160]help engage and provide funding
- [00:15:32.940]to our community members and
- [00:15:34.530]support, I'd be happy to do
- [00:15:36.030]that. So
- [00:15:36.700]thank you all for giving me
- [00:15:38.020]some time today, and I will
- [00:15:39.400]kick it back to Jenny.
- [00:15:40.680]Tell me where your office is
- [00:15:42.460]located. It's, I'm in Scotts Bluff,
- [00:15:45.710]so I'm in the Riverside
- [00:15:47.780]Business Plaza, that's what it's
- [00:15:49.230]called. It's right across the
- [00:15:50.580]street from the big screen WTT.
- [00:15:52.020]We are working virtually right
- [00:15:54.770]now, so our face-to-face
- [00:15:57.350]interactions are limited,
- [00:16:00.360]but yeah, I'm always usually
- [00:16:02.140]available through phone, so if
- [00:16:04.070]you call me or leave me an
- [00:16:05.490]email,
- [00:16:06.120]I'll try to usually return that
- [00:16:07.860]call or email within 24
- [00:16:09.440]business hours, so usually it's
- [00:16:11.450]the
- [00:16:11.600]same day, but sometimes I have
- [00:16:12.810]different trainings or things
- [00:16:14.020]going on where it goes into the
- [00:16:15.230]next day,
- [00:16:15.680]but I'm usually pretty quick
- [00:16:17.550]about getting back. Awesome.
- [00:16:19.830]Great. Thanks. Anthony, how
- [00:16:22.470]many people
- [00:16:23.420]do you have out there? I know
- [00:16:24.840]you have Howard White that's
- [00:16:26.210]taken over some duties looking
- [00:16:27.700]at
- [00:16:27.900]those loans and things here in
- [00:16:29.300]the Valentine area. How many
- [00:16:30.760]other people do you have in the
- [00:16:32.240]western
- [00:16:32.560]part of the state? Well, pretty
- [00:16:34.780]much it's just me. Howard is
- [00:16:36.600]kind of dedicated to the
- [00:16:38.100]central
- [00:16:38.760]part of the state, so pretty
- [00:16:41.220]much all panhandle for the most
- [00:16:43.890]part is going to be me. I am
- [00:16:46.390]bilingual,
- [00:16:46.780]so I serve both Spanish and
- [00:16:48.610]English speaking population,
- [00:16:50.900]and I also help Howard with his
- [00:16:53.040]area if he's got a Spanish-speaking
- [00:16:55.260]client, and I help him with
- [00:16:57.000]some of those applicants. So
- [00:16:58.940]pretty much on the western side,
- [00:17:01.230]it's me and Howard. Panhandle,
- [00:17:03.570]it's all me, and once you
- [00:17:05.420]get into the eastern side of
- [00:17:06.370]Nebraska, you get a higher
- [00:17:07.370]population, so we've got a few
- [00:17:08.380]more
- [00:17:08.660]specialists out there as well.
- [00:17:12.340]Okay, thanks. Yes, thank you.
- [00:17:16.400]All right, Julia, tell us what
- [00:17:20.080]pad is up to and how you're
- [00:17:22.940]liking the new position yes so
- [00:17:26.380]um my name is julia um i just
- [00:17:29.540]started working at pad i think
- [00:17:30.980]this is week seven that can
- [00:17:32.240]correct me if i'm wrong because
- [00:17:33.730]she's
- [00:17:34.160]heard my intro like five times
- [00:17:35.820]in the last two weeks um and
- [00:17:37.280]same with chelsea she'll
- [00:17:38.690]probably
- [00:17:39.300]start correcting me um but uh i
- [00:17:41.250]just graduated in may from iowa
- [00:17:43.260]state which is where the past
- [00:17:45.200]two planners also went. I have
- [00:17:47.090]my bachelor's of science in
- [00:17:48.700]community regional planning,
- [00:17:50.700]and then
- [00:17:51.340]I also have a leadership
- [00:17:52.870]studies certificate, so that's
- [00:17:55.020]kind of my background. Prior to,
- [00:17:57.310]I like to
- [00:17:57.940]tell people this, but prior to
- [00:17:59.590]this job, I had been in Omaha
- [00:18:01.060]for two hours, and that was the
- [00:18:02.710]extent of
- [00:18:03.380]my Nebraska experience, so this
- [00:18:05.200]area is completely new. I'd
- [00:18:06.810]never like been to Colorado,
- [00:18:08.410]seen mountains,
- [00:18:09.200]any of that, so this area is
- [00:18:10.850]pretty interesting to me. I'm
- [00:18:12.730]used to humidity and mosquitoes,
- [00:18:14.780]and
- [00:18:15.100]snowstorms because that's
- [00:18:16.760]Minnesota for you. But yeah, so
- [00:18:18.870]that's kind of just about me in
- [00:18:20.660]general.
- [00:18:21.520]So when I took over this
- [00:18:24.150]position, my area was, you know,
- [00:18:28.350]supposed to be basically
- [00:18:32.050]helping with
- [00:18:32.820]our grant administration.
- [00:18:35.940]Currently, we have quite a few
- [00:18:39.050]projects, you know, in the
- [00:18:41.980]works and
- [00:18:43.060]possibly happening soon. Morrill
- [00:18:45.100]just received a public works
- [00:18:46.690]grant, so that's going to be a
- [00:18:48.400]big
- [00:18:48.580]thing for us in 2021. We also
- [00:18:51.780]have CDBG in Sydney, Morrill,
- [00:18:54.370]Crawford, and Kimball. We have
- [00:18:57.180]two,
- [00:18:57.600]yeah, two OOR grants pending,
- [00:18:59.660]so hopefully we hear by the end
- [00:19:01.580]of November on those. So this
- [00:19:04.000]is all
- [00:19:04.660]2021 outlook. And then
- [00:19:06.880]currently we're working on our
- [00:19:08.710]landlord assistance, and that
- [00:19:10.760]was based on
- [00:19:11.520]some CARES Act funding that we
- [00:19:13.520]got. It's open through the end
- [00:19:15.680]of the year as most of it is.
- [00:19:17.640]So Brian, which is our
- [00:19:19.010]executive director, has been
- [00:19:20.960]heading that up. It involves a
- [00:19:22.970]lot of time
- [00:19:23.600]on the road just going and
- [00:19:25.630]seeing the apartments to do an
- [00:19:28.040]inspection, but we've been
- [00:19:30.430]helping a lot
- [00:19:31.540]of landlords out, which is
- [00:19:33.410]great during this time. And
- [00:19:35.500]then on top of that, we got CARES
- [00:19:37.640]Act funding
- [00:19:38.560]from the EDA and we're kind of
- [00:19:41.240]working on just anything
- [00:19:43.620]economic development wise and
- [00:19:46.580]educational
- [00:19:47.860]opportunities. We were working
- [00:19:50.300]with WNCC to work on job
- [00:19:51.870]trainings in the area and
- [00:19:53.630]hopefully use
- [00:19:54.740]those funds to work on you know
- [00:19:57.100]just reviving the panhandle
- [00:19:59.360]economic status in general but
- [00:20:01.940]there's
- [00:20:02.360]also a lot of ideas just kind
- [00:20:03.510]of floating around we're still
- [00:20:04.810]kind of trying to figure that
- [00:20:06.010]out
- [00:20:06.200]as we learn what we can do with
- [00:20:08.170]it. And then we obviously just
- [00:20:10.750]received, all the development
- [00:20:13.400]districts just received their
- [00:20:14.910]annual funding. So that just
- [00:20:16.400]goes towards our normal
- [00:20:17.570]everyday stuff,
- [00:20:18.520]such as, you know, paying to
- [00:20:21.640]have staff on here for support
- [00:20:24.650]for our 11 counties and just
- [00:20:27.970]all of
- [00:20:28.740]our economic development
- [00:20:30.690]features that we offer. So that's
- [00:20:33.200]kind of what's happening here
- [00:20:35.380]and who
- [00:20:35.940]I am. Questions for Julia. I
- [00:20:40.610]would just also add, not to be
- [00:20:46.470]correcting her, but just to
- [00:20:49.400]give her
- [00:20:50.420]additional credit. She has
- [00:20:52.270]jumped in and is now our staff
- [00:20:54.050]support for the Heartland
- [00:20:55.750]Expressway
- [00:20:56.500]Association. Excuse me. And
- [00:20:59.820]that's just sort of minutiae in
- [00:21:02.750]terms of keeping track of
- [00:21:05.190]memberships
- [00:21:06.580]and bill paying and that sort
- [00:21:08.270]of thing. But it is such a
- [00:21:09.900]phenomenal assistance to those
- [00:21:11.640]of us on
- [00:21:12.120]the board that I just wanted to
- [00:21:13.620]give her a shout out for that.
- [00:21:15.230]And again, thanks to Pat for
- [00:21:16.660]allowing
- [00:21:17.140]that. We would have a hard time
- [00:21:18.970]keeping track of all that if we
- [00:21:20.680]didn't have that set in some
- [00:21:22.380]specific place. So she's the
- [00:21:25.530]keeper of all of the details
- [00:21:28.070]and helped us figure out who
- [00:21:30.750]hadn't paid
- [00:21:31.980]and who needs to pay. And we're
- [00:21:34.040]looking forward to having
- [00:21:35.730]another successful year with
- [00:21:37.660]the
- [00:21:37.960]Heartland Expressway. Best
- [00:21:39.780]thing to do would be if we
- [00:21:41.280]could get back to having
- [00:21:42.580]meetings in person,
- [00:21:43.880]but we do what we can do.
- [00:21:50.700]So Julia, what kind of, what
- [00:21:52.200]communities have you had a
- [00:21:53.520]chance to visit yet?
- [00:21:54.680]So I took a little trip on my
- [00:21:58.200]own one weekend just to kind of
- [00:22:02.310]get out. I love driving, so I
- [00:22:05.000]visited like Cheyenne County,
- [00:22:07.090]saw what was out there. I
- [00:22:08.780]honestly have not really had a
- [00:22:10.720]chance to
- [00:22:11.480]meet with communities face-to-face
- [00:22:14.340]just because we have our own
- [00:22:16.540]separate offices here, so we've
- [00:22:19.160]been lucky, you know, to stay
- [00:22:21.120]in person. I did have a slight
- [00:22:23.120]scare thinking I was maybe
- [00:22:24.760]COVID
- [00:22:25.280]positive. So that was a fun
- [00:22:26.820]time. It's a day of work. But
- [00:22:28.600]so Brian's been pretty much
- [00:22:30.040]trying to
- [00:22:30.620]keep us in our own little
- [00:22:32.270]bubble. So I've met, you know,
- [00:22:34.660]a few important people like
- [00:22:36.600]Brittany from
- [00:22:37.920]DED. I've met with Pat Comfort,
- [00:22:40.240]who's with the Department of
- [00:22:42.160]Labor. Obviously, I've met with
- [00:22:44.640]Deb multiple times for multiple
- [00:22:46.160]different things. She's a
- [00:22:47.510]important person to know. But I'm
- [00:22:49.470]slowly
- [00:22:50.060]trying to figure out and that
- [00:22:51.590]was kind of part of what I've
- [00:22:53.180]been working on too is figuring
- [00:22:54.740]out how
- [00:22:55.200]to engage with our communities.
- [00:22:56.790]One being that I'm brand new
- [00:22:58.030]and two that we didn't really
- [00:22:59.350]get out
- [00:22:59.780]this summer to do our normal
- [00:23:01.330]stuff. We're working on our
- [00:23:03.100]annual mini conference that
- [00:23:04.650]happens in
- [00:23:05.380]January, crossing our fingers
- [00:23:06.950]that it works out and we can do
- [00:23:08.310]it in person just to try to get
- [00:23:09.800]those contacts and trying to
- [00:23:11.370]actually put names to faces. Uh,
- [00:23:13.330]cause for me, that's been the
- [00:23:15.130]hardest
- [00:23:15.520]part is just knowing all these
- [00:23:17.350]names and knowing them by email
- [00:23:19.260]and that's about it. Um, so
- [00:23:21.060]that's
- [00:23:21.620]been kind of, uh, a project of
- [00:23:22.830]mine too, is figuring out how
- [00:23:24.000]to connect with the communities.
- [00:23:25.560]Um, and we're figuring things
- [00:23:27.150]out slowly, but it's, it's hard.
- [00:23:29.030]We had a lot of position
- [00:23:30.190]changes
- [00:23:30.800]and obviously throwing COVID
- [00:23:32.800]lose our last planner and we're
- [00:23:34.920]kind of starting from square
- [00:23:36.900]one in a
- [00:23:37.320]sense. All right. Any other
- [00:23:43.090]questions or comments? Sorry to
- [00:23:49.370]be late to the party this
- [00:23:53.830]morning, but
- [00:23:56.520]were there any surprises in
- [00:23:58.780]anyone's local council races
- [00:24:01.280]last night or commission races?
- [00:24:05.580]Mike looks like he's happy.
- [00:24:07.020]I was in our city council.
- [00:24:11.340]You know Andrew, don't you?
- [00:24:13.680]Deb, I think.
- [00:24:16.520]Andrew Ward?
- [00:24:17.340]Yes.
- [00:24:18.960]You know Charlie probably.
- [00:24:20.180]Anyway.
- [00:24:20.540]Yeah, I do.
- [00:24:21.540]And I logged on just
- [00:24:23.030]specifically to see how that
- [00:24:25.280]ended up.
- [00:24:26.280]And I'm sure it happened.
- [00:24:28.480]Well, I was just really, so I
- [00:24:30.480]was surprised, first of all,
- [00:24:32.620]that the guy came in third and
- [00:24:34.070]beat him out as an incumbent.
- [00:24:35.740]But the thing about it is the
- [00:24:39.060]guy that got in there is Neil
- [00:24:42.280]Westcott's to be son-in-law.
- [00:24:45.020]He's another council member.
- [00:24:46.540]And so that could be
- [00:24:47.980]interesting if his daughter's
- [00:24:50.510]significant other gets on the
- [00:24:52.640]same council as him.
- [00:24:54.400]So I don't know that a lot will
- [00:24:55.460]change with some of that.
- [00:24:56.540]But it was just surprising to
- [00:24:58.390]me that Andrew got beat out by
- [00:25:00.240]200 votes.
- [00:25:02.620]but other than that our council
- [00:25:04.590]will stay intact and a three to
- [00:25:06.580]two vote on most things we want
- [00:25:08.720]to
- [00:25:08.840]do well shattered elected one
- [00:25:10.840]new council member because we
- [00:25:12.840]had one that chose not to run
- [00:25:14.680]again so
- [00:25:15.280]one was re-elected and then one
- [00:25:18.030]a new councilman that i've
- [00:25:20.330]never met
- [00:25:21.260]so looking forward to meeting
- [00:25:24.120]that person i always take the
- [00:25:26.930]time to have a little session
- [00:25:29.690]with the
- [00:25:30.320]the new elected officials. The
- [00:25:33.010]bigger change in our part of
- [00:25:35.100]the world will be a former city
- [00:25:37.440]council member is now on the
- [00:25:39.660]Dawes County Commission. His
- [00:25:42.100]name is Levi Grant, and he was
- [00:25:44.520]outspoken, boisterous member of
- [00:25:47.740]the city council, and now he
- [00:25:50.390]will be one of three
- [00:25:52.280]county commissioners. And so
- [00:25:54.560]that'll probably be a bigger
- [00:25:56.590]change, at least in how my
- [00:25:58.450]world
- [00:25:58.940]reacts to elected officials
- [00:26:00.590]than what happened on the city
- [00:26:02.260]council.
- [00:26:02.780]And I also wanted to say that
- [00:26:05.900]our community voted decidedly
- [00:26:09.260]for Tanya Storr, but it was not
- [00:26:12.510]enough.
- [00:26:12.900]So Senator Brewer will be the
- [00:26:15.540]43rd district senator again. So
- [00:26:19.170]there you are. Some good
- [00:26:21.680]things, some not settled things,
- [00:26:24.680]some bad things, in my opinion.
- [00:26:27.580]But I think all in all, I was
- [00:26:29.980]pleased that there weren't
- [00:26:32.460]riots in some of the bigger
- [00:26:34.820]cities on the national scene.
- [00:26:37.730]But this
- [00:26:38.580]not knowing what's going to
- [00:26:40.550]happen at the presidential
- [00:26:42.540]level, the longer it goes, the
- [00:26:44.860]more I
- [00:26:45.460]I think a certain current
- [00:26:47.480]sitting president will stack a
- [00:26:50.000]lot of lawyers together and
- [00:26:52.260]make this just painful.
- [00:26:54.460]I heard him say this morning
- [00:26:56.330]that the Biden camp already has
- [00:26:58.450]their lawyers lined up to
- [00:27:00.160]challenge anything that the
- [00:27:02.130]other camp throws out there.
- [00:27:04.380]And so I'm like, it's not good
- [00:27:07.010]for our country.
- [00:27:08.620]No, it's not.
- [00:27:09.500]I would have rather woke up
- [00:27:10.870]this morning and one way or the
- [00:27:12.380]other said, here we go.
- [00:27:15.460]Anyway, so yeah, we didn't have
- [00:27:17.430]any county commissioner race
- [00:27:19.210]really or anything like that.
- [00:27:21.200]So our community didn't vote
- [00:27:23.290]for Tanya Storer in Cherry
- [00:27:25.200]County, even though she's from
- [00:27:27.580]Cherry County.
- [00:27:30.240]but there is a decided
- [00:27:31.890]delegation of the anti-wind
- [00:27:34.210]faction that has campaigned
- [00:27:36.230]very, very hard for Senator Brewer.
- [00:27:38.860]And she made some, I think she
- [00:27:40.930]was, what, six percentage
- [00:27:42.920]points closer than the primary
- [00:27:45.080]or something like that.
- [00:27:47.020]I haven't seen any final
- [00:27:49.260]numbers. How'd she do in Boxfield
- [00:27:51.430]County, Chelsea, do you know?
- [00:27:53.020]I'm looking, because I looked
- [00:27:55.650]at midnight, and I don't
- [00:27:57.550]remember what I read.
- [00:28:00.240]I think someone, and I haven't
- [00:28:02.680]looked them all up yet,
- [00:28:04.640]somebody had said she carried Mullen,
- [00:28:06.320]Hooker County, and there might
- [00:28:08.290]have been another one out there,
- [00:28:10.330]and it might have been a Box
- [00:28:11.990]Butte,
- [00:28:12.560]I can't remember for sure. Well,
- [00:28:14.790]when I looked last night, there
- [00:28:16.800]was nothing reported from
- [00:28:18.440]either
- [00:28:18.980]Dawes or Box Butte County, but
- [00:28:20.550]I kind of half suspect that she
- [00:28:22.100]carried Box Butte County, or at
- [00:28:24.000]least the city of alliance but
- [00:28:26.810]not enough to i mean i don't
- [00:28:29.330]think she did close enough for
- [00:28:32.080]any
- [00:28:32.500]any conceivable recount or
- [00:28:34.070]anything like that so it's just
- [00:28:35.840]no i was just curious how she
- [00:28:37.400]did if
- [00:28:37.900]you knew offhand chelsea don't
- [00:28:40.000]don't give it a lot of effort i
- [00:28:41.940]can look it up
- [00:28:42.960]so we move forward with
- [00:28:46.080]whatever happens happens i
- [00:28:49.790]guess we've all been through
- [00:28:52.030]that before if
- [00:28:53.080]you've been in this for any
- [00:28:54.310]time you've been through a few
- [00:28:55.710]elections and a few
- [00:28:56.600]administrators
- [00:28:57.480]and stuff like that that it's
- [00:28:59.220]always good to touch base with
- [00:29:01.000]things in there so
- [00:29:02.160]anyway i don't have any other
- [00:29:04.140]topics what are we talking
- [00:29:06.130]about in two weeks jenny i
- [00:29:07.670]forgot what you
- [00:29:08.880]told me about we were doing
- [00:29:10.680]coming up yeah so i just
- [00:29:12.240]connected with uh terry rowich
- [00:29:14.390]she's been
- [00:29:15.240]talking to our young
- [00:29:16.980]entrepreneur. Her name escapes
- [00:29:19.840]me. I am trying to get a second
- [00:29:22.440]young
- [00:29:22.960]entrepreneur. I have reached
- [00:29:24.800]out to Bodie Brandt in the Cheyenne
- [00:29:26.720]County area. I haven't been
- [00:29:28.460]able
- [00:29:28.860]to connect with him yet. But
- [00:29:30.330]Terry, if you want to tell us
- [00:29:31.730]what you've got lined up so far.
- [00:29:33.480]Sure. Her name is Madison Grace
- [00:29:37.440]Brown, thus the name Gracie's
- [00:29:41.110]Candles. She's the young
- [00:29:44.400]young entrepreneur that started
- [00:29:46.880]her own candle making business
- [00:29:49.190]and has joined Grow Nebraska.
- [00:29:51.680]And she was selected to
- [00:29:53.900]participate in the Nebraska
- [00:29:56.550]State Fair last year and also
- [00:29:59.310]was
- [00:29:59.660]interviewed by 1011 News, I
- [00:30:02.810]believe. So I've asked her to
- [00:30:05.160]join us and then just share
- [00:30:07.290]with them how
- [00:30:08.440]she got started, whether she
- [00:30:11.070]has an LLC and if she does, how
- [00:30:13.480]that happened. So I encourage
- [00:30:16.180]you
- [00:30:16.580]guys just to ask her a lot of
- [00:30:17.900]different questions. She's very,
- [00:30:19.900]very knowledgeable about the
- [00:30:21.370]product
- [00:30:21.920]and how she does things. So I
- [00:30:24.740]don't think you'll stumble her
- [00:30:27.690]on any of it. So feel free to
- [00:30:30.360]ask away
- [00:30:31.320]when she joins. I do just keep
- [00:30:33.720]in touch with her mom via
- [00:30:35.570]messenger because as youth,
- [00:30:37.870]they're not
- [00:30:38.900]used to checking email daily
- [00:30:40.340]like we are. So I just kind of
- [00:30:41.840]keep on top of her with that.
- [00:30:43.340]So,
- [00:30:43.620]and I did invite her to do a
- [00:30:45.590]test Zoom meeting with me if
- [00:30:47.770]she had any reservations there.
- [00:30:50.500]And
- [00:30:50.860]she seems to be very
- [00:30:51.920]comfortable, which they do
- [00:30:53.520]homeschool her. So I'm sure
- [00:30:55.170]they do a lot of work
- [00:30:56.340]by Zoom or other means of
- [00:30:58.970]communication that way.
- [00:31:02.040]So anyway, she is looking
- [00:31:03.410]forward, very excited to be
- [00:31:05.360]invited
- [00:31:06.020]and very much looking forward
- [00:31:07.910]to joining us.
- [00:31:09.020]Awesome.
- [00:31:10.880]I'll try and add a second young
- [00:31:13.550]entrepreneur to that
- [00:31:15.560]and see if we can get two of
- [00:31:16.660]them to talk a little bit about
- [00:31:18.080]why and how they've started
- [00:31:19.460]their own businesses.
- [00:31:23.320]I do have a possibility coming
- [00:31:25.400]up. Jenny and I talked about
- [00:31:27.480]this a little bit the other day
- [00:31:29.560]that we're working with Mid-Plains
- [00:31:32.040]Community College on a they're
- [00:31:34.210]putting together a digital
- [00:31:36.140]toolbox with a marketing
- [00:31:37.900]consultant, basically.
- [00:31:40.180]And there's like six different
- [00:31:41.610]sessions on doing different
- [00:31:42.940]social media things and those
- [00:31:44.330]kind of from building a website
- [00:31:45.750]to doing Facebook and whatever.
- [00:31:47.460]And if you you can pick up each
- [00:31:49.540]session is like forty five
- [00:31:51.460]dollars or something like that.
- [00:31:54.100]And it's delivered to your
- [00:31:55.870]mailbox so you can look at it,
- [00:31:57.870]view it several times if you
- [00:31:59.770]want to on your own.
- [00:32:01.260]And then if they take like
- [00:32:02.730]three or more of the sessions
- [00:32:04.410]and sign up, it's like one
- [00:32:05.950]hundred twenty dollars.
- [00:32:08.000]But then you also get a 45
- [00:32:09.740]minute consultation with the
- [00:32:11.470]person that did all the video
- [00:32:13.330]things about your business and
- [00:32:15.080]stuff.
- [00:32:15.680]And so I think what we're doing
- [00:32:18.100]is our ED board wanted to pay
- [00:32:20.330]for that for any of the
- [00:32:22.070]businesses in our community
- [00:32:24.410]that want to take advantage of
- [00:32:26.840]that.
- [00:32:27.740]We'll pay the tuition part on
- [00:32:29.470]it so they can access that
- [00:32:30.860]because we were trying to
- [00:32:32.160]figure out, you know, how do we
- [00:32:33.960]help them get more into the
- [00:32:35.440]digital age?
- [00:32:36.500]And so midplains came up with
- [00:32:38.240]this.
- [00:32:38.740]And so we might get midplains
- [00:32:39.990]on to kind of talk a little bit
- [00:32:41.230]about that.
- [00:32:41.940]And then maybe some of your
- [00:32:43.310]other community colleges could
- [00:32:45.090]duplicate that and could share
- [00:32:46.420]that.
- [00:32:46.740]Oh, that was really close out
- [00:32:48.810]in Boxview County, but Brewer
- [00:32:50.960]carried by 100 votes for loss.
- [00:32:53.820]Wow. Yeah.
- [00:32:56.800]Well, maybe we need to get Nita
- [00:32:58.750]pounding on our state senator
- [00:33:00.570]to advance some economic
- [00:33:02.130]development issues for other
- [00:33:04.000]than the Pine Ridge Reservation.
- [00:33:06.500]needs to be in his office when
- [00:33:08.810]we come see him i would
- [00:33:10.540]recommend you not waste your
- [00:33:12.860]breath
- [00:33:13.540]i think i asked me how i really
- [00:33:16.370]feel if you want i did actually
- [00:33:19.040]hear him a little bit this
- [00:33:20.740]morning
- [00:33:21.380]on another radio station and
- [00:33:23.600]they were he was talking about
- [00:33:25.840]the process and how he couldn't
- [00:33:28.300]campaign because he had to go
- [00:33:29.790]represent the people in lincoln
- [00:33:31.490]and be down there during march
- [00:33:33.140]when they were anyway well i do
- [00:33:36.260]have to say just without any
- [00:33:39.020]any political affiliation here
- [00:33:42.330]at all
- [00:33:43.020]um i don't know that there was
- [00:33:45.000]a candidate across the state
- [00:33:47.000]who worked harder at getting
- [00:33:49.010]out and
- [00:33:49.600]meeting people during a
- [00:33:51.250]pandemic than tanya store did
- [00:33:53.250]the last two months of the
- [00:33:54.940]election she was
- [00:33:56.560]everywhere. And I did speak
- [00:33:58.780]with her and I said, you know,
- [00:34:00.920]you're building an incredible
- [00:34:03.240]background and wealth of
- [00:34:05.690]contacts. And don't, by all
- [00:34:08.740]means, don't be discouraged if
- [00:34:11.860]you aren't
- [00:34:13.000]able to crack at this go around
- [00:34:14.870]because he will term out. And
- [00:34:16.970]then I think she has a real
- [00:34:18.360]legitimate
- [00:34:19.220]opportunity. And she just sort
- [00:34:22.400]of sighed and said, oh, I don't
- [00:34:25.430]know if I can look that far
- [00:34:27.940]down the road. So encouraging
- [00:34:30.830]people who've done well or who
- [00:34:33.500]have made a good effort at it,
- [00:34:36.280]I think is also incredibly
- [00:34:37.780]important. Those of us that are
- [00:34:39.670]politically involved at all,
- [00:34:41.560]and I don't mean partisanship
- [00:34:43.640]at any level, what I mean is
- [00:34:45.570]encouraging people who are
- [00:34:47.550]willing to
- [00:34:48.360]put their name on the line and
- [00:34:50.140]are willing to go out and work
- [00:34:51.920]like they did. We should not
- [00:34:53.860]let that
- [00:34:54.980]pass without recognition. We
- [00:34:56.790]had her come speak to the Heartland
- [00:34:58.720]Expressway Association. I don't
- [00:35:00.820]know how many times we've
- [00:35:02.560]invited Brewer. I don't know
- [00:35:04.780]how many times we had Al Davis,
- [00:35:06.920]and that was,
- [00:35:07.840]you know, multiple times he
- [00:35:09.690]came and spoke with us. Cannot
- [00:35:11.800]get Brewer interested in doing
- [00:35:13.830]any of
- [00:35:14.260]those kinds of things. And it's
- [00:35:16.140]just extremely frustrating to
- [00:35:17.900]me that you have someone who
- [00:35:19.590]wants
- [00:35:19.880]to listen and is willing to
- [00:35:21.880]talk about your specific issues
- [00:35:24.370]when she does have a forum to
- [00:35:26.560]attend. And it'll go for not
- [00:35:29.470]this go around anyway. So tell
- [00:35:32.660]her thanks for her efforts if
- [00:35:35.540]you do get a chance to visit
- [00:35:37.670]with her. Yeah. All right.
- [00:35:40.390]Anything else or should we wrap
- [00:35:42.920]up early
- [00:35:43.500]today, Jenny? I've got one more
- [00:35:46.130]note that we have Roger Meeks,
- [00:35:48.280]USDA Rural Development. He's
- [00:35:50.700]going to talk about broadband.
- [00:35:53.060]So Marla talked last week about
- [00:35:55.220]some of the rural development
- [00:35:57.340]opportunities, but some folks
- [00:35:59.610]had questions about broadband
- [00:36:01.770]opportunities. And she said,
- [00:36:04.110]you know, Roger would be the
- [00:36:06.110]guy. So he is scheduled for, I
- [00:36:08.610]think it's December 2nd. Yes.
- [00:36:12.380]Who's on there that's called
- [00:36:14.330]Broadband, anyway?
- [00:36:15.920]Who's over there?
- [00:36:19.780]I didn't.
- [00:36:20.320]It was probably Phillip.
- [00:36:21.640]Way to go, Chelsea.
- [00:36:25.260]I wondered about it.
- [00:36:27.720]I thought Phillip's name popped
- [00:36:28.840]up earlier.
- [00:36:29.380]I just didn't know that he
- [00:36:30.640]switched it there.
- [00:36:31.760]I wasn't drinking at midnight,
- [00:36:33.710]though.
- [00:36:34.400]I wasn't drinking at midnight.
- [00:36:37.640]I was dog tired.
- [00:36:39.500]I read it with one eye open.
- [00:36:42.380]I don't think anybody said you
- [00:36:43.710]were drinking at midnight.
- [00:36:45.120]You did, privately.
- [00:36:46.440]No, I asked what you were
- [00:36:48.570]drinking.
- [00:36:49.740]I didn't say you were drinking.
- [00:36:51.180]Well, I'd like to also thank
- [00:36:53.450]Chelsea for inviting us to
- [00:36:55.530]those Thirsty Thursdays.
- [00:36:57.860]Just three of us got together
- [00:36:59.810]last week, and she has renewed
- [00:37:01.890]the invitation.
- [00:37:03.620]So feel free to kick back on an
- [00:37:06.730]off Thursday and join us for
- [00:37:09.730]some just relaxing conversation.
- [00:37:13.840]It might be time to reach out
- [00:37:15.580]to a few more people, too.
- [00:37:17.460]I think there are folks who are
- [00:37:19.680]sort of talking about that kind
- [00:37:21.920]of get together.
- [00:37:23.420]I think we should invite Lisa
- [00:37:25.170]Hurley, if she doesn't get
- [00:37:26.840]anybody else from the NRED
- [00:37:28.450]group, to do a social visit
- [00:37:30.100]with her.
- [00:37:31.460]Last week when we were doing
- [00:37:32.560]the ones with the tourism group
- [00:37:33.820]and I had trouble getting in on
- [00:37:35.160]Starz Zoom, I first was
- [00:37:37.920]directed to the Lincoln group.
- [00:37:40.640]And Jeff Maul, who is the CVB
- [00:37:42.450]director in Lincoln, said let
- [00:37:44.430]him know when we have another
- [00:37:46.310]Thursday Thursday.
- [00:37:47.840]So I don't think it's
- [00:37:49.610]necessarily just rendezvousers,
- [00:37:52.750]real rendezvousers.
- [00:37:54.900]I think we'd be welcome to have
- [00:37:56.760]folks who want to chat with us.
- [00:37:58.820]So I like the idea.
- [00:38:01.180]just it's just um a nice way to
- [00:38:03.010]wind down toward the end of the
- [00:38:04.940]week send those send those
- [00:38:06.680]things
- [00:38:07.220]forward and and uh i think it's
- [00:38:09.000]a welcoming group it'll be a
- [00:38:10.640]lot of fun chelsea you can
- [00:38:12.110]block people
- [00:38:13.060]on that campus so we could have
- [00:38:14.490]them into the group and then we
- [00:38:15.920]could vote and say oh no we
- [00:38:17.240]don't want them and then she
- [00:38:19.080]could hit the lead and they
- [00:38:20.870]could go or or we just have
- [00:38:22.570]some like
- [00:38:23.240]weird uh what do you call it so
- [00:38:26.120]when you bring them into your
- [00:38:29.000]cult or whatever initiation
- [00:38:31.900]initiation
- [00:38:33.200]yeah yeah but we'll discuss
- [00:38:35.200]well you're gonna you're gonna
- [00:38:37.450]brand them too chelsea or what
- [00:38:39.700]well you know i i do like the
- [00:38:41.770]movie yellowstone so or the
- [00:38:43.940]show excuse me let's uh discuss
- [00:38:46.490]that
- [00:38:46.880]on our social event next week.
- [00:38:48.880]So thank you everybody for
- [00:38:50.650]participating.
- [00:38:51.980]Jenny for hosting again.
- [00:38:53.440]And we'll see you in a couple
- [00:38:55.200]of weeks
- [00:38:55.820]or we'll see you on the social
- [00:38:57.320]next Thursday.
- [00:38:58.320]Thank you everybody.
- [00:38:59.900]Thank you.
- [00:39:00.520]Bye.
- [00:39:01.400]Bye everyone.
