- [00:00:00.000]And then I'm going to share my
- [00:00:01.600]screen, and we'll get this
- [00:00:03.110]thing going.
- [00:00:04.080]All right, let me go back to
- [00:00:17.320]this site.
- [00:00:26.880]All right, so you can see the
- [00:00:28.170]screen where everybody's
- [00:00:29.380]running out of the tunnel here.
- [00:00:31.020]That's what's showing up.
- [00:00:33.640]I just want to confirm.
- [00:00:34.500]Yeah?
- [00:00:35.280]All right.
- [00:00:37.380]So when you're working on your
- [00:00:39.430]CMS site, I haven't done this
- [00:00:41.580]training in, like, two months,
- [00:00:43.990]so apologies if I'm a little
- [00:00:45.670]rusty.
- [00:00:46.320]So, you know, when you go to a
- [00:00:48.610]CMS site at UNL, typically you're
- [00:00:51.280]just going to see the site, and
- [00:00:53.670]you're not going to have any of
- [00:00:55.980]this.
- [00:00:56.880]You're going to see all this
- [00:00:58.280]login information, this site
- [00:00:59.700]information, but then once you
- [00:01:01.260]do, you see all this different
- [00:01:02.970]stuff that's associated with
- [00:01:04.200]the CMS once you're logged in.
- [00:01:06.040]So there's content, structure,
- [00:01:08.320]configuration, people, reports.
- [00:01:11.000]We'll touch on most of this
- [00:01:12.200]stuff as we go through the
- [00:01:13.370]training, and then you'll see
- [00:01:14.780]these tabs on any page that you're
- [00:01:16.310]on on your website.
- [00:01:17.460]You know, view, edit, layout,
- [00:01:18.970]revisions, and replicate.
- [00:01:20.400]So as is probably obvious,
- [00:01:22.430]content is anything related to
- [00:01:24.830]content on your site.
- [00:01:26.660]I can click this content tab,
- [00:01:28.240]and it'll show me all the pages
- [00:01:29.890]that have been created on my
- [00:01:31.400]site.
- [00:01:31.940]If I roll over this and I click
- [00:01:34.020]add content, it shows me the
- [00:01:36.180]type of content I can add to
- [00:01:38.070]the site.
- [00:01:39.060]If I go over to this, add
- [00:01:40.530]content, I can add individual
- [00:01:42.400]pages this way as well.
- [00:01:43.860]So here I went content, add
- [00:01:45.920]content, click that, and then
- [00:01:47.860]it brings me to this page.
- [00:01:49.720]And these are the sort of the
- [00:01:51.350]types of content that you can
- [00:01:52.760]add to your page.
- [00:01:53.900]So a builder page.
- [00:01:56.440]A builder page is probably what
- [00:01:57.600]you'll be using the most.
- [00:01:58.680]This is kind of the, I don't
- [00:02:00.520]know if anybody worked in the
- [00:02:02.440]previous CMS, but this will
- [00:02:04.230]replace the basic page.
- [00:02:05.640]This is sort of like two pages
- [00:02:08.050]in one.
- [00:02:08.840]You can create these simple
- [00:02:11.030]pages using just a WYSIWYG
- [00:02:12.890]editor and formatted text and
- [00:02:14.730]images and videos.
- [00:02:16.380]But then there's another part
- [00:02:18.020]of this builder page that is
- [00:02:19.520]called layout builder.
- [00:02:21.060]And that allows you to build a
- [00:02:22.980]little bit more complex layouts
- [00:02:25.140]using.
- [00:02:26.220]Components and they're
- [00:02:28.360]basically.
- [00:02:28.800]You know, pre-coded and
- [00:02:31.690]internal templated.
- [00:02:33.200]So all you have to do is fill
- [00:02:35.160]out fields and upload images.
- [00:02:37.600]There's no HTML, there's no CSS,
- [00:02:39.710]there's no JavaScript.
- [00:02:41.420]And you can build really nice
- [00:02:44.040]looking pages that way.
- [00:02:45.440]The rest of these pages or
- [00:02:47.360]content types deal with
- [00:02:49.430]specific types of content that
- [00:02:51.610]you might add to your site.
- [00:02:53.900]So book pages, you know.
- [00:02:56.200]It says it right here.
- [00:02:57.220]They have a built-in hierarchical
- [00:02:58.470]navigation.
- [00:02:59.080]These are great for handbooks
- [00:03:00.360]or tutorials.
- [00:03:01.020]Talk about this as I go through
- [00:03:02.280]the training.
- [00:03:03.040]A news item is very specific.
- [00:03:05.300]It's a news item, right?
- [00:03:06.460]You're adding a piece of news
- [00:03:07.900]to your site.
- [00:03:08.720]A person is for if, you know,
- [00:03:11.370]you're building a bio page for
- [00:03:13.950]somebody on your site.
- [00:03:16.220]And a web form is a, it allows
- [00:03:19.240]you to collect information from
- [00:03:22.460]a user on your site.
- [00:03:24.860]You know, you can designate.
- [00:03:26.240]The fields that you want to
- [00:03:27.270]collect and then gather that
- [00:03:28.470]data and download it later.
- [00:03:29.800]So these are the different
- [00:03:31.720]types of content.
- [00:03:33.260]You know, I mentioned
- [00:03:35.020]previously that it's no HTML,
- [00:03:37.310]no CSS, no JavaScript system.
- [00:03:39.900]The other cool thing about it
- [00:03:42.030]is it's very kind of modular.
- [00:03:44.400]You can create pieces of
- [00:03:45.860]content, reference them
- [00:03:47.570]elsewhere, change them in one
- [00:03:49.350]place,
- [00:03:49.940]and then they'll change
- [00:03:51.060]multiple places on the site.
- [00:03:52.580]So with that being said, I'm
- [00:03:54.760]going to...
- [00:03:56.160]I'm going to go ahead and get
- [00:03:56.890]started.
- [00:03:57.260]And I'm going to kind of go
- [00:03:58.330]through some of these more
- [00:03:59.460]specific types.
- [00:04:00.380]And then I will go to the
- [00:04:01.900]builder page and we'll kind of
- [00:04:04.030]build up pages, both using the
- [00:04:07.060]pieces of content that we
- [00:04:09.180]created earlier, as well as a
- [00:04:12.010]bigger, kind of more designed
- [00:04:14.420]page using Layout Builder.
- [00:04:15.820]So we're going to go ahead and
- [00:04:17.120]just start by adding a person.
- [00:04:26.140]So this is really, you know,
- [00:04:28.180]you just, most of these pieces
- [00:04:30.410]of these content types, you're
- [00:04:32.640]just going to fill out fields,
- [00:04:33.590]right?
- [00:04:33.920]So I'm going to fill out two
- [00:04:35.140]fields and show you what
- [00:04:36.270]happens here.
- [00:04:37.120]So I'm going to fill out my
- [00:04:38.690]name and then this directory
- [00:04:40.490]reference, you can see it auto
- [00:04:42.520]completes to my name.
- [00:04:44.380]So this is actually, I'm
- [00:04:45.610]referencing myself in directory.
- [00:04:47.500]You can see I've selected it.
- [00:04:48.840]It's showing my UNL username
- [00:04:50.210]and I'm going to go ahead and
- [00:04:51.510]hit save here.
- [00:04:56.120]So just by filling out two
- [00:04:57.860]fields, I have this page with
- [00:04:59.870]this contact information and
- [00:05:02.440]my name and my photo.
- [00:05:04.340]So, you know, my photo, my job
- [00:05:07.080]title, my department, all my
- [00:05:08.880]contact information that is
- [00:05:10.940]pulling
- [00:05:11.640]from directory.
- [00:05:12.860]There's other fields in here
- [00:05:17.320]that you can edit and override.
- [00:05:22.580]So for instance, say today I
- [00:05:25.230]want.
- [00:05:26.100]Instead of senior web developer,
- [00:05:27.950]I want my position title to be
- [00:05:29.490]called lead trainer.
- [00:05:30.840]And maybe I want a different
- [00:05:32.950]photo.
- [00:05:33.720]I could override that photo or
- [00:05:35.160]any of this stuff.
- [00:05:36.220]I could override my affiliation,
- [00:05:37.980]phone number, email.
- [00:05:39.300]So this is just really helpful.
- [00:05:41.320]A lot of times people's job
- [00:05:44.080]titles in directory are kind of.
- [00:05:47.620]They aren't necessarily the
- [00:05:50.200]cleanest.
- [00:05:51.440]Sometimes they'll have weird
- [00:05:52.690]abbreviations and things like
- [00:05:54.080]that.
- [00:05:54.360]So this is.
- [00:05:56.080]Really helpful if you just need
- [00:05:57.320]to make sure that your title is
- [00:05:58.500]in there
- [00:05:58.960]exactly as it should be.
- [00:06:00.240]It's also really helpful if you're
- [00:06:02.160]adding somebody who does not
- [00:06:03.750]have a
- [00:06:04.140]UNL affiliation, you know,
- [00:06:05.920]maybe you have a visiting
- [00:06:07.570]speaker or something like that,
- [00:06:09.920]and they don't have a
- [00:06:10.790]university ID,
- [00:06:11.560]but you still want to have
- [00:06:12.450]information in there about them.
- [00:06:13.800]In that case, you wouldn't fill
- [00:06:15.300]out this field.
- [00:06:16.200]You would just fill out these
- [00:06:17.400]overrides and then they will be
- [00:06:18.700]formatted the
- [00:06:19.480]same exact way that the
- [00:06:20.620]information being pulled from
- [00:06:22.180]directory is.
- [00:06:23.040]So here's my bio field.
- [00:06:26.060]I can say, you know, Aaron
- [00:06:29.590]helps develop science and
- [00:06:32.680]training.
- [00:06:34.380]And there's fields for
- [00:06:37.560]education, additional, and all
- [00:06:42.460]kinds of stuff, right?
- [00:06:46.180]You can add links into your
- [00:06:48.000]social accounts.
- [00:06:49.440]So I'm going to go ahead and
- [00:06:51.660]click save.
- [00:06:56.040]Connection must be kind of slow
- [00:07:00.010]here this morning.
- [00:07:02.280]So you can see that I overrode
- [00:07:05.400]my job title.
- [00:07:07.140]It now says lead trainer, which
- [00:07:08.540]is that override field I filled
- [00:07:09.880]in.
- [00:07:10.200]And then my bio information is
- [00:07:11.750]here.
- [00:07:12.220]And if I were to type more,
- [00:07:13.320]this would obviously just
- [00:07:14.420]expand out.
- [00:07:15.040]But again, there's no HTML.
- [00:07:17.540]There's no CSS.
- [00:07:18.340]I just type in stuff and it
- [00:07:19.670]formats nicely.
- [00:07:20.740]So that is the person.
- [00:07:22.900]We're going to go ahead and add
- [00:07:24.970]a news item.
- [00:07:26.020]Now.
- [00:07:26.420]So we'll say news item for
- [00:07:31.620]August 19 training.
- [00:07:37.400]So again, it's just a bunch of
- [00:07:39.420]fields as I fill out, right?
- [00:07:41.480]So we're going to start filling
- [00:07:42.480]those out.
- [00:07:42.960]At the very top of this news
- [00:07:44.720]article, there's an image field.
- [00:07:47.200]So this is something new as
- [00:07:50.040]well in the CMS is anytime you
- [00:07:53.180]need to add an image to a
- [00:07:55.840]computer,
- [00:07:56.000]component, or a piece of
- [00:07:57.890]content, you're going to be
- [00:08:00.060]prompted to open this thing
- [00:08:02.120]called a media library.
- [00:08:03.640]So I click that button, and now
- [00:08:06.320]it is opening media library.
- [00:08:08.680]So media library is a way to
- [00:08:11.410]manage images and files on your
- [00:08:14.650]website.
- [00:08:15.940]It works in a little bit
- [00:08:17.670]different system than the, or
- [00:08:19.410]with a little bit different way
- [00:08:21.420]than the old system.
- [00:08:23.020]The old system.
- [00:08:25.980]You uploaded files into folders
- [00:08:27.690]and you could put folders in
- [00:08:28.980]folders.
- [00:08:29.600]And then you had to figure out
- [00:08:31.140]what the URL structure was to
- [00:08:32.760]reference those in the HTML.
- [00:08:34.480]And it was a little bit of a
- [00:08:35.440]pain.
- [00:08:35.820]This new system, it's kind of
- [00:08:38.570]like one big, one big pot of
- [00:08:41.100]files.
- [00:08:42.000]And then the way that you find
- [00:08:44.160]those files later on is both
- [00:08:45.770]how you named them and through
- [00:08:48.290]a tagging system.
- [00:08:49.940]So I'll kind of show you what
- [00:08:52.140]that looks like.
- [00:08:53.680]So we're going to add an image
- [00:08:55.200]here.
- [00:08:56.480]Let's just say, I don't even
- [00:08:58.610]know here.
- [00:08:59.960]Let's just use this one.
- [00:09:04.300]So when you add an image, you're
- [00:09:07.840]immediately prompted to add alt
- [00:09:10.280]text before you can use that
- [00:09:13.180]image anywhere.
- [00:09:14.740]So we can say, let's see here.
- [00:09:17.580]I don't know why this is not
- [00:09:19.420]living my preview.
- [00:09:21.340]Let's try this again.
- [00:09:25.940]All right.
- [00:09:33.880]So here, you know, we'll say
- [00:09:38.790]student sitting cross-legged in
- [00:09:44.300]grass in, I don't know, I think
- [00:09:48.450]this says about an almond area.
- [00:09:51.800]Grass probably doesn't need to
- [00:09:54.330]be capitalized.
- [00:09:55.920]So you have to add alt text
- [00:09:57.740]before you can use it.
- [00:09:59.580]And then tags.
- [00:10:00.540]So tags, this would be a way
- [00:10:02.380]that you could find it in the
- [00:10:04.220]future.
- [00:10:05.020]So you would want to create
- [00:10:06.810]these tags in a sort of general
- [00:10:08.930]to specific way.
- [00:10:10.260]We have some best practices
- [00:10:13.080]documentation for creating tags.
- [00:10:16.940]And Saren can put that link in
- [00:10:18.650]the chat.
- [00:10:19.420]We also have some best
- [00:10:20.670]practices for naming your files.
- [00:10:22.840]And that's important as well.
- [00:10:25.900]You don't want spaces in your
- [00:10:27.400]titles, things like that.
- [00:10:29.020]And also, it's just going to
- [00:10:30.090]make things easier to find in
- [00:10:31.170]the future.
- [00:10:31.740]So we're going to go ahead and
- [00:10:34.300]go general.
- [00:10:35.660]So we're going to say student.
- [00:10:37.920]So this gives me an example to
- [00:10:40.700]show you what not to do when
- [00:10:42.970]you're tagging.
- [00:10:44.780]So you can see here, the tagging
- [00:10:46.580]system works with autocorrect.
- [00:10:48.680]Sorry, autocomplete.
- [00:10:50.840]And you'll see I not only have
- [00:10:53.270]a tag for student,
- [00:10:55.300]but I also have a tag for
- [00:10:55.660]student.
- [00:10:55.880]I have a tag for student life
- [00:10:57.350]and students.
- [00:10:58.040]So I would say that something
- [00:11:00.300]not to do
- [00:11:01.000]is have something so close
- [00:11:02.560]together
- [00:11:03.140]that essentially if you start
- [00:11:05.890]using
- [00:11:06.440]those two different tags in the
- [00:11:07.520]future,
- [00:11:07.900]then similar images would be bifurcated.
- [00:11:10.440]You know, student and students,
- [00:11:12.100]you would not want both of
- [00:11:13.510]those.
- [00:11:14.120]You would want either student
- [00:11:15.910]or students
- [00:11:16.640]just for general student photos.
- [00:11:18.120]Student life I could see being
- [00:11:19.630]different, right?
- [00:11:20.780]That could be, you know,
- [00:11:22.940]students doing specific stuff
- [00:11:25.860]is student life at Nebraska,
- [00:11:27.420]same with student project.
- [00:11:28.500]But student and students is bad.
- [00:11:31.060]You should not have two
- [00:11:32.210]separate tags
- [00:11:32.960]that basically mean the same
- [00:11:34.470]thing.
- [00:11:35.020]So we'll say students.
- [00:11:36.200]You know, we could say green
- [00:11:39.730]space.
- [00:11:40.940]Looks like there's a tag for
- [00:11:43.170]that.
- [00:11:43.900]So I'm going to choose that.
- [00:11:45.460]You know, we could say Nebraska
- [00:11:49.800]Union.
- [00:11:50.560]We know this is right behind
- [00:11:51.610]the Nebraska Union.
- [00:11:52.540]Doesn't look like there's a tag
- [00:11:54.880]for that.
- [00:11:56.640]So we'll create one.
- [00:11:57.580]Put one more comma in here.
- [00:11:59.840]And if you want to, you know,
- [00:12:00.990]you could put the year that,
- [00:12:02.010]you know, that photo was taken.
- [00:12:03.360]So we'll do this.
- [00:12:04.780]And we'll insert that.
- [00:12:06.680]So we've created this image and
- [00:12:10.430]it is now in our news story.
- [00:12:13.960]So the cut line, this could be
- [00:12:15.770]more specific information about
- [00:12:17.830]that image.
- [00:12:18.800]I would say that the alt text
- [00:12:20.070]is probably a little bit more
- [00:12:21.290]general.
- [00:12:21.920]The cut line is a little more
- [00:12:23.400]specific.
- [00:12:24.180]So this is where you could say.
- [00:12:25.820]Student name and major and year.
- [00:12:31.200]Graduating and anything else.
- [00:12:36.120]Yeah.
- [00:12:41.800]Maybe you could say they're
- [00:12:42.970]like wearing a shirt for the
- [00:12:44.140]club that they're in or
- [00:12:45.090]something.
- [00:12:45.820]Because I think she's in the
- [00:12:47.350]rowing club.
- [00:12:48.380]So lead image credit.
- [00:12:50.720]You know, you could say.
- [00:12:55.800]So that's who took the photo by
- [00:12:59.940]line is who wrote the article.
- [00:13:04.460]So we'll just say.
- [00:13:05.760]That nobody wants to see me
- [00:13:08.680]type four paragraphs.
- [00:13:11.540]So I'm just going to create
- [00:13:12.960]some lorem ipsum text here and
- [00:13:14.570]paste that in there.
- [00:13:15.880]And then the person reference.
- [00:13:24.340]This is where I had previously
- [00:13:25.270]mentioned.
- [00:13:25.780]That things are kind of modular
- [00:13:28.330]and you can reference things
- [00:13:30.680]elsewhere on the site.
- [00:13:32.860]So we're going to put my name
- [00:13:34.850]in here.
- [00:13:35.680]And I just created my person
- [00:13:38.240]content previously.
- [00:13:40.520]So I'm going to reference that.
- [00:13:42.000]And then here we'll just say.
- [00:13:44.780]Nebraska.
- [00:13:55.760]This is where you'd put
- [00:13:57.180]anything related to this
- [00:13:58.810]article.
- [00:13:59.560]So we're going to click save
- [00:14:00.870]and see what this news item
- [00:14:02.130]looks like.
- [00:14:02.960]So you can see here's the title.
- [00:14:09.000]Here's the byline, the date it
- [00:14:10.870]was published.
- [00:14:12.040]The cut line for the photo, the
- [00:14:14.290]credit.
- [00:14:15.120]The photo itself.
- [00:14:17.220]The text, some share widgets
- [00:14:19.780]over here.
- [00:14:20.940]And then you can see here where
- [00:14:24.050]I put my name.
- [00:14:25.740]This is like the contact
- [00:14:26.970]reference and I type my name in.
- [00:14:28.760]You can see that it's pulling
- [00:14:30.300]my information in.
- [00:14:31.520]Again, it's pulling through the
- [00:14:33.780]title that I overrode from
- [00:14:35.540]directory.
- [00:14:36.600]So this is something where if I
- [00:14:38.110]then went and changed that
- [00:14:39.390]title again,
- [00:14:40.140]it would not only change on the
- [00:14:42.410]page that we just previously
- [00:14:44.810]entered,
- [00:14:45.500]but it would also change in
- [00:14:47.270]this reference field here in
- [00:14:49.300]this news item.
- [00:14:50.380]So related links.
- [00:14:52.360]This is, you know, we added
- [00:14:53.720]that related links to the
- [00:14:55.090]Nebraska,
- [00:14:55.720]the unions, and then here's the
- [00:14:57.340]latest news.
- [00:14:58.140]So this is automatically going
- [00:15:00.040]to load in the four most recent
- [00:15:02.010]news articles
- [00:15:02.840]into the bottom of every news
- [00:15:04.380]article that you add.
- [00:15:05.680]So that is a news item.
- [00:15:08.500]And we are going to go in here
- [00:15:11.040]now.
- [00:15:11.760]And rather than talk about a
- [00:15:14.630]book page,
- [00:15:15.920]I'm just going to show you what
- [00:15:16.930]it looks like.
- [00:15:17.560]So we are going to go to wdn.unl.edu,
- [00:15:21.840]which is the Web Developer
- [00:15:22.960]Network site.
- [00:15:25.700]And then on this site, under
- [00:15:28.990]Documentation,
- [00:15:31.140]we have a tab for UNL CMS
- [00:15:33.040]Documentation.
- [00:15:34.700]Oops.
- [00:15:39.620]So this is what a book page
- [00:15:43.070]looks like,
- [00:15:44.840]and this is what book pages
- [00:15:46.160]look like.
- [00:15:46.880]I previously mentioned they
- [00:15:48.600]have a built-in hierarchical
- [00:15:50.370]navigation.
- [00:15:51.360]So when you create a book for
- [00:15:53.800]book pages,
- [00:15:55.680]essentially, if you want to
- [00:15:57.020]take that metaphor and run with
- [00:15:58.470]it,
- [00:15:58.760]you create the cover for that
- [00:16:00.280]book, right?
- [00:16:01.220]So this book is called Introduction
- [00:16:04.390]to UNL CMS,
- [00:16:05.220]and these are pages or chapters
- [00:16:06.890]in this book, right?
- [00:16:08.220]So if I click Content Types, it
- [00:16:13.040]opens up,
- [00:16:13.760]and you can see these are the
- [00:16:14.910]content types
- [00:16:15.500]that we've started adding to
- [00:16:16.850]this site in this training,
- [00:16:18.100]and you can sort of nest all
- [00:16:19.920]this content using these book
- [00:16:21.970]pages,
- [00:16:22.620]using a parent-child
- [00:16:23.390]relationship.
- [00:16:25.660]If I click Builder Page, then
- [00:16:27.160]this will show me all these
- [00:16:28.480]components
- [00:16:29.180]that I can add to a builder
- [00:16:30.230]page, right?
- [00:16:30.940]So this is what book pages look
- [00:16:33.610]like.
- [00:16:34.380]You can add rich text and video
- [00:16:38.030]and photos and things like that
- [00:16:41.880]in your book pages.
- [00:16:42.680]I think that the CMS said it's
- [00:16:45.180]good for documentation, which
- [00:16:48.010]this is.
- [00:16:49.040]It's also really good for – I've
- [00:16:52.060]seen people use it for year-end
- [00:16:55.640]reports and bylaws and things
- [00:16:58.960]like that where you have lots
- [00:17:01.820]of pages of text
- [00:17:03.640]that you want kind of grouped
- [00:17:04.910]together, that you want people
- [00:17:06.290]to move through
- [00:17:07.040]and in order.
- [00:17:07.740]So these embeds are messed up
- [00:17:10.930]because I'm actually previewing
- [00:17:13.240]this site in our
- [00:17:14.500]next version of the framework.
- [00:17:15.680]So these embeds would typically
- [00:17:18.160]be full width.
- [00:17:19.520]We're just debugging all this
- [00:17:21.170]stuff.
- [00:17:21.740]So anyway, this is what book
- [00:17:24.040]pages look like.
- [00:17:25.620]If you add a book page, you'll
- [00:17:28.140]create that title page, and
- [00:17:30.360]then you can add child pages to
- [00:17:31.970]it.
- [00:17:32.220]You can nest them down and
- [00:17:33.480]rearrange them.
- [00:17:34.520]And that's really what book
- [00:17:36.240]pages are.
- [00:17:37.120]It also gives me an example to
- [00:17:39.170]say, if you go to the WDN
- [00:17:40.900]website and go to UNL CMS
- [00:17:42.620]documentation,
- [00:17:44.120]not only are those links that Saren
- [00:17:46.340]shared with you in the chat in
- [00:17:48.180]there, but there is a bunch of
- [00:17:50.070]stuff.
- [00:17:50.820]There's no way I have time to
- [00:17:52.570]get to everything in the
- [00:17:54.100]training today, but there's a
- [00:17:55.600]bunch of stuff
- [00:17:55.600]there's, you know, there's an
- [00:17:57.520]advanced training video down
- [00:17:59.110]here.
- [00:17:59.660]There is all kinds of just
- [00:18:01.700]really good information about
- [00:18:03.900]building your site in this
- [00:18:06.580]documentation.
- [00:18:07.400]So that is a book page.
- [00:18:10.660]That's what book pages look
- [00:18:11.840]like.
- [00:18:12.140]You just go add content book
- [00:18:13.690]page to start with those.
- [00:18:15.300]And it looks like a normal page
- [00:18:17.580]here, you know, and then over
- [00:18:19.890]here, book outline.
- [00:18:21.740]When you start a book page,
- [00:18:23.040]this is where you would say,
- [00:18:24.390]create a new book.
- [00:18:25.980]So whatever the name of your
- [00:18:27.050]page is will be the title of
- [00:18:28.590]that book.
- [00:18:29.380]So that is book pages.
- [00:18:32.660]So now I'm going to go add
- [00:18:34.270]content web form.
- [00:18:35.740]So we're going to create a web
- [00:18:41.020]form, register for training.
- [00:18:47.240]And you can see here that I get
- [00:18:48.820]this little information box
- [00:18:50.420]that says web forms must first
- [00:18:52.050]be created before referencing
- [00:18:53.760]them.
- [00:18:55.560]So that might seem a little
- [00:18:56.480]confusing because I thought I
- [00:18:57.540]was creating a web form.
- [00:18:58.540]Well, in this system, the
- [00:19:00.310]fields, the data that you're
- [00:19:02.670]collecting is separate from the
- [00:19:04.330]page that it's attached to.
- [00:19:06.420]So that might seem a little
- [00:19:08.730]confusing.
- [00:19:09.960]But the benefit of that is in
- [00:19:12.310]the previous CMS, people would
- [00:19:14.720]often say, hey, can I clone a
- [00:19:16.770]web form?
- [00:19:17.820]Can I just duplicate it?
- [00:19:19.440]And there was no way to do that.
- [00:19:21.340]You had to recreate all the
- [00:19:22.890]fields.
- [00:19:23.580]And it was kind of a pain,
- [00:19:24.530]especially if you're.
- [00:19:25.540]Collecting the same data for,
- [00:19:27.680]you know, maybe a quarterly
- [00:19:29.900]conference or something like
- [00:19:31.780]that.
- [00:19:32.380]So in this new system, you do
- [00:19:34.290]not have to do that.
- [00:19:35.540]You would create the web form
- [00:19:36.920]fields, AKA the data that you
- [00:19:38.350]want to collect.
- [00:19:39.380]And then you would attach those
- [00:19:41.380]fields to different pages.
- [00:19:43.340]So let's say you have a monthly
- [00:19:45.810]meeting that you want people to
- [00:19:47.420]register for.
- [00:19:48.620]And you want all the data that
- [00:19:50.480]you're gathered for those
- [00:19:52.040]monthly meetings to be separate,
- [00:19:54.340]right?
- [00:19:55.520]So in that case, rather than
- [00:19:56.960]recreating the web form, you'd
- [00:19:58.620]create those fields that you
- [00:20:00.080]want to gather.
- [00:20:00.680]And then you would just attach
- [00:20:02.170]those to different pages.
- [00:20:03.540]And then the data that you're
- [00:20:04.930]collecting would be attached to
- [00:20:06.480]those pages.
- [00:20:07.360]So let me show you what that
- [00:20:08.900]means.
- [00:20:09.520]So let's just say sign up here.
- [00:20:12.580]So this is a web form we've
- [00:20:13.760]already created.
- [00:20:14.820]And I'll show you how to create
- [00:20:15.670]that here in a second.
- [00:20:16.460]So we're referencing those
- [00:20:18.810]fields with this page.
- [00:20:21.800]So it will save.
- [00:20:24.180]And then you'll see.
- [00:20:25.500]What the fields are.
- [00:20:26.320]So you can see here.
- [00:20:33.560]These are all the fields.
- [00:20:34.400]That we've already created.
- [00:20:35.900]Kind of on the back end.
- [00:20:37.360]And they're being referenced by
- [00:20:38.830]this page.
- [00:20:39.460]So if this form were to be
- [00:20:40.660]filled out.
- [00:20:41.440]Then those results are here on
- [00:20:43.450]this page.
- [00:20:44.380]That we just created.
- [00:20:45.120]So how do you change.
- [00:20:48.400]The fields themselves.
- [00:20:49.740]Well those are in structure.
- [00:20:52.120]So if I go to structure.
- [00:20:53.600]And I open up web.
- [00:20:55.480]Forms.
- [00:20:56.100]Sign up is the one that we were.
- [00:21:01.240]That we had referenced on that
- [00:21:02.880]page.
- [00:21:03.380]So we're going to go to build.
- [00:21:04.560]And here you can see.
- [00:21:08.180]These are all the.
- [00:21:09.700]Different fields that are
- [00:21:11.880]attached to that page.
- [00:21:14.000]Right.
- [00:21:14.300]So if I come over here.
- [00:21:16.480]Do you have any other feedback
- [00:21:18.740]for us.
- [00:21:19.500]Did you learn the training.
- [00:21:20.520]So let's just add another one.
- [00:21:21.940]Right.
- [00:21:22.260]Let's just add a text.
- [00:21:25.460]Let's just add a text field.
- [00:21:25.820]Let's just say.
- [00:21:29.780]If.
- [00:21:36.240]If T-shirts were available.
- [00:21:40.640]What size would you need to
- [00:21:45.690]order.
- [00:21:47.540]So, and this could be a radio
- [00:21:49.080]button we're just leaving it
- [00:21:50.640]open field, but just for this,
- [00:21:52.510]we're just going to say they
- [00:21:53.870]can fill out the field.
- [00:21:55.440]Whatever. So we're going to
- [00:21:56.710]save this.
- [00:21:57.340]And then we'll save it.
- [00:22:00.900]So now if we refresh this page
- [00:22:06.420]where we're referencing those
- [00:22:11.590]fields.
- [00:22:13.560]You'll see this new field is
- [00:22:15.410]already added at the bottom of
- [00:22:17.440]t shirts available it size,
- [00:22:19.450]would you need to order. So,
- [00:22:21.480]you know, and then this this
- [00:22:23.410]field were filled out.
- [00:22:25.420]These fields were filled out
- [00:22:27.050]that like I said the data would
- [00:22:28.730]be available here and this is
- [00:22:30.340]where you could then download
- [00:22:32.030]that information or or do
- [00:22:33.440]whatever with it so
- [00:22:34.660]That's how web forms work. It's
- [00:22:37.800]kind of a two step process, but
- [00:22:40.730]it really is a better system
- [00:22:43.270]than than what it was
- [00:22:45.180]previously so
- [00:22:46.680]Now we're going to come in here
- [00:22:48.070]and we are going to finally get
- [00:22:49.480]into builder page and that's
- [00:22:50.820]kind of what's going to take up
- [00:22:52.200]the rest of the training
- [00:22:53.320]because there's lots of
- [00:22:54.670]different ways.
- [00:22:55.400]So you can use a builder page.
- [00:22:57.390]So to start with, we are going
- [00:22:59.310]to use the basic functionality
- [00:23:01.320]of a builder page. That is, we're
- [00:23:03.680]just going to use the rich text
- [00:23:05.540]format WYSIWYG editor. So let's
- [00:23:07.730]just create a page called about
- [00:23:09.730]our department.
- [00:23:11.300]And again, we're going to put a
- [00:23:13.810]big. So this is a hero, which
- [00:23:16.310]is kind of a big image at the
- [00:23:18.440]top of your page. We're going
- [00:23:20.960]to go ahead and add an image at
- [00:23:23.280]the top of our page.
- [00:23:25.380]So this is a hero, which is
- [00:23:36.910]kind of a big image at the top
- [00:23:49.730]of our page.
- [00:23:55.360]So this is a hero, which is
- [00:24:06.900]kind of a big image at the top
- [00:24:19.600]of our page.
- [00:24:25.340]So this is a hero, which is
- [00:24:37.440]kind of a big image at the top
- [00:24:48.980]of our page.
- [00:24:55.320]So this is a hero, which is
- [00:25:06.850]kind of a big image at the top
- [00:25:18.900]of our page.
- [00:25:25.300]So this is a hero, which is
- [00:25:36.830]kind of a big image at the top
- [00:25:48.880]of our page.
- [00:25:55.280]So this is a hero, which is
- [00:26:07.180]kind of a big image at the top
- [00:26:18.860]of our page.
- [00:26:25.260]So in that case, you'd choose
- [00:26:26.270]50%, 100%.
- [00:26:27.240]And then that would make the
- [00:26:28.660]bottom of the photo locked to
- [00:26:30.060]the bottom of the map.
- [00:26:31.280]Hopefully that makes sense.
- [00:26:32.540]We're not going to wiggle this
- [00:26:33.940]because it looks like she's
- [00:26:35.280]kind of right along the middle.
- [00:26:36.900]Hero size is just how much
- [00:26:38.680]shows through.
- [00:26:39.980]So small is going to be really
- [00:26:41.660]skinny.
- [00:26:42.320]Medium is kind of a nice medium.
- [00:26:45.120]And then large is a much taller
- [00:26:47.310]hero.
- [00:26:47.900]So some of these fields are...
- [00:26:55.240]They're not required, but I'm
- [00:26:56.380]going to fill them all out
- [00:26:57.340]just so you can see what they
- [00:26:58.130]look like.
- [00:26:58.580]So about, overline, about our
- [00:27:03.060]apartment, about subhead.
- [00:27:07.460]So I'm going to create that.
- [00:27:11.120]All right.
- [00:27:14.720]And then I'm just going to
- [00:27:16.040]paste this in here.
- [00:27:17.120]And I'm going to go ahead and
- [00:27:18.500]click save.
- [00:27:25.220]All right.
- [00:27:26.020]So you can see she's a little
- [00:27:28.710]bit cut off, her head.
- [00:27:30.660]We can change that.
- [00:27:33.160]We have space over here on the
- [00:27:35.190]right we want to get rid of.
- [00:27:37.260]And maybe we want to format
- [00:27:38.690]this, maybe add another image
- [00:27:40.390]to this page.
- [00:27:41.300]So we're going to pop back into
- [00:27:43.170]the edit tab here, change a few
- [00:27:45.100]things.
- [00:27:45.880]So first we're going to edit
- [00:27:47.290]the hero.
- [00:27:47.960]Let's just go ahead and make it
- [00:27:50.330]large.
- [00:27:51.140]I think that will show more of
- [00:27:52.150]the photo.
- [00:27:52.680]That will look good.
- [00:27:55.200]Let's just go ahead and add
- [00:27:56.360]another header here.
- [00:27:57.500]Let's just say header 2.
- [00:27:59.940]And, you know, the WYSIWYG
- [00:28:02.010]formats pretty much like Word.
- [00:28:04.400]You can do unordered list,
- [00:28:05.880]ordered list.
- [00:28:06.860]You know, if we want to drop
- [00:28:08.390]another image in here,
- [00:28:09.860]I can click this media library
- [00:28:11.740]button.
- [00:28:12.460]Maybe I put him in here.
- [00:28:14.760]So once I add an image, then it
- [00:28:17.550]allows me to format that image.
- [00:28:20.800]So right now it's you have
- [00:28:23.140]narrowed.
- [00:28:23.980]Default is the size.
- [00:28:25.180]Size of the photo that was
- [00:28:26.970]uploaded.
- [00:28:27.600]Narrow is about half the
- [00:28:29.110]browser viewport width.
- [00:28:30.900]And wide is going to be full
- [00:28:32.500]viewport browser width.
- [00:28:34.740]These buttons determine how the
- [00:28:37.730]image is offset with the text.
- [00:28:40.780]So right now it's centered and
- [00:28:41.850]offset.
- [00:28:42.300]You can do left and offset.
- [00:28:43.740]You can do floated left and you
- [00:28:45.560]can do floated right.
- [00:28:47.040]I think floated right typically
- [00:28:48.450]looks good.
- [00:28:49.040]So now we're going to go over
- [00:28:51.170]here to some of this publishing
- [00:28:53.730]information.
- [00:28:55.160]So this is kind of your
- [00:28:56.810]administrative bar for all the
- [00:28:59.330]kind of internal stuff
- [00:29:01.100]determined that it related to
- [00:29:02.330]this page that you're creating.
- [00:29:03.800]So menu settings, you know, we're
- [00:29:07.050]going to put this in the menu.
- [00:29:10.160]So we're going to say put it in
- [00:29:11.980]the menu.
- [00:29:12.800]We can change the menu link
- [00:29:14.320]title if it needs to be
- [00:29:15.490]different than the page title.
- [00:29:17.480]URL redirects.
- [00:29:20.540]This would be if maybe you had
- [00:29:22.590]an old page on your site.
- [00:29:25.140]That had a certain URL and you
- [00:29:26.820]wanted it to redirect to a new
- [00:29:28.500]page.
- [00:29:29.020]That's where you do that.
- [00:29:31.520]You could set that up.
- [00:29:32.540]URL alias.
- [00:29:34.340]By default, it's going to
- [00:29:35.730]create, the CMS is going to
- [00:29:37.190]create a clean URL for you.
- [00:29:38.820]But if you, for some reason,
- [00:29:40.180]need it to be something really
- [00:29:41.560]simple, like maybe we just
- [00:29:42.940]want this to be about, you
- [00:29:44.630]could go ahead and, you know,
- [00:29:46.940]make the URL here about.
- [00:29:48.420]You know, access.
- [00:29:50.360]This is a new feature in our
- [00:29:53.220]system.
- [00:29:55.120]So this is pretty cool.
- [00:29:56.180]So by default, when you create
- [00:29:59.750]a page and you publish it,
- [00:30:02.960]anybody who has that URL will
- [00:30:06.200]be able to see that content.
- [00:30:07.600]You know, likewise, if it's
- [00:30:09.600]obviously if that page is
- [00:30:10.400]published and you add it to
- [00:30:11.810]your
- [00:30:11.940]navigation, anybody coming to
- [00:30:13.820]your site will be able to see
- [00:30:15.440]that content.
- [00:30:16.440]We have this ability, though,
- [00:30:21.090]to limit content views.
- [00:30:25.100]To affiliated groups on campus.
- [00:30:27.720]So, for instance, say you have,
- [00:30:31.620]I don't know, some content in
- [00:30:35.000]your site that you is specific
- [00:30:37.840]to faculty and staff and there's
- [00:30:39.390]really no need for students to
- [00:30:40.810]see it.
- [00:30:41.360]So if you created that content
- [00:30:43.610]on your site, you could publish
- [00:30:46.030]it.
- [00:30:46.500]You could link it in the
- [00:30:47.470]navigation.
- [00:30:48.180]And if you only wanted faculty
- [00:30:50.510]and staff to see it, you could
- [00:30:53.040]click these two checkboxes
- [00:30:55.080]and then, you know, if anybody
- [00:30:59.030]went to that page and they were
- [00:31:03.040]not logged in, they would
- [00:31:05.920]say, you know, sorry, this page,
- [00:31:08.600]this content on this page is
- [00:31:10.630]limited to faculty and staff.
- [00:31:12.980]Please log in to see this
- [00:31:14.300]content.
- [00:31:15.020]You know, so if a student went
- [00:31:16.280]to that page and they tried to
- [00:31:17.510]view it, they would know
- [00:31:18.640]that they would not be able to
- [00:31:19.790]see it, even if they logged in.
- [00:31:25.060]So that's just a little bonus
- [00:31:26.740]feature.
- [00:31:27.460]If you need to put something
- [00:31:30.070]behind login, any affiliation
- [00:31:33.000]would basically mean that
- [00:31:35.600]anybody coming to your site
- [00:31:39.030]would need to have a UNL affiliation
- [00:31:42.520]and they would have
- [00:31:44.700]to be logged in to see that
- [00:31:45.980]content.
- [00:31:46.640]So that is UNL access.
- [00:31:52.420]Authoring information.
- [00:31:55.040]Basically just says who created
- [00:31:56.640]the page and when they created
- [00:31:58.040]it.
- [00:31:58.400]Promotion information.
- [00:32:00.460]We don't use this right now.
- [00:32:01.780]And page options.
- [00:32:03.360]There's some specific stuff in
- [00:32:05.190]here.
- [00:32:05.720]So you remember when I created
- [00:32:07.200]the page, there's that gap on
- [00:32:08.670]the right side.
- [00:32:09.620]By default, if you create pages
- [00:32:12.630]and you start adding them to
- [00:32:15.190]your navigation, it will put
- [00:32:18.100]a sidebar navigation in there,
- [00:32:19.450]kind of like book page
- [00:32:20.370]navigation.
- [00:32:21.040]And it will hold that spot open.
- [00:32:25.020]Unless you get rid of it.
- [00:32:26.400]So we're going to get rid of
- [00:32:27.290]that.
- [00:32:27.620]There's some other stuff in
- [00:32:29.020]here, too, some of which I
- [00:32:30.240]probably won't even have time
- [00:32:31.680]to
- [00:32:31.940]get to today, like these site
- [00:32:33.290]organization tags.
- [00:32:34.360]We'll get to this hide page
- [00:32:36.460]title later.
- [00:32:37.760]But we've done a little more
- [00:32:39.970]formatting here.
- [00:32:41.380]And we're going to go ahead and
- [00:32:42.410]click save.
- [00:32:55.000]Come on.
- [00:32:59.300]All right.
- [00:33:04.440]So we chose large for the hero.
- [00:33:07.820]So now there's more of the
- [00:33:08.710]photo showing through.
- [00:33:09.720]And it looks a little bit
- [00:33:10.400]better.
- [00:33:10.740]You know, we formatted that
- [00:33:12.420]header, put another image in
- [00:33:14.190]here.
- [00:33:14.760]And we got rid of the sidebar.
- [00:33:17.100]So, you know, and we also added
- [00:33:18.690]it to our navigation.
- [00:33:19.920]So this page is looking pretty
- [00:33:21.240]good, right?
- [00:33:22.040]This is kind of like the basic
- [00:33:24.200]page.
- [00:33:24.980]The rich text formatting
- [00:33:26.760]functionality of a builder page.
- [00:33:29.320]So now we're going to get into
- [00:33:31.850]the more advanced functionality
- [00:33:34.700]of a builder page.
- [00:33:36.560]So I'm going to add another
- [00:33:37.660]builder page here.
- [00:33:38.600]And I'm going to say our people.
- [00:33:43.680]We're going to create a
- [00:33:44.340]directory page.
- [00:33:44.960]So we're going to add it to the
- [00:33:48.520]menu.
- [00:33:49.600]And all we're going to do here
- [00:33:50.770]is we're just going to click
- [00:33:51.880]save.
- [00:33:54.960]So we've got our page.
- [00:33:58.320]Actually, we're going to get
- [00:33:59.270]rid of that menu.
- [00:33:59.960]You can see it popping up there.
- [00:34:01.500]So we don't want that.
- [00:34:02.740]So we're going to hide that
- [00:34:04.960]sidebar.
- [00:34:05.980]We're going to click save.
- [00:34:07.480]And now we're going to go into
- [00:34:11.710]the layout tab.
- [00:34:13.960]So layout tab is layout builder.
- [00:34:16.780]This is the way you can kind of
- [00:34:19.100]build advanced layouts on your
- [00:34:21.390]site using components.
- [00:34:24.940]In here, you can see we get a
- [00:34:26.620]bunch of other stuff, right,
- [00:34:28.530]when we load this.
- [00:34:29.880]This is a placeholder for the
- [00:34:31.550]text field that's on the edit
- [00:34:33.110]tab, which you don't really
- [00:34:34.770]need to worry about if you're
- [00:34:36.260]just using the layout tab.
- [00:34:37.840]And then you see these things
- [00:34:40.000]called add section.
- [00:34:41.780]So we're going to add a section.
- [00:34:43.060]Anytime you add a section, it's
- [00:34:44.540]going to ask you what layout
- [00:34:45.790]you want in that section.
- [00:34:47.140]So at a very, very basic level,
- [00:34:50.200]if you think of a layout
- [00:34:52.280]builder as tab, like,
- [00:34:54.920]tabular data, right?
- [00:34:57.820]So you're creating rows and you're
- [00:35:00.290]putting columns in those rows
- [00:35:02.150]and you're putting columns
- [00:35:04.080]of various widths in those rows.
- [00:35:05.580]And then you're putting pieces
- [00:35:08.120]of content in those columns in
- [00:35:10.990]those rows.
- [00:35:11.800]That's a very basic level.
- [00:35:13.680]You know, I think previously we
- [00:35:15.230]call, refer to these horizontal
- [00:35:16.850]sections as bands.
- [00:35:18.020]It doesn't matter either way.
- [00:35:20.960]You're putting content into
- [00:35:22.850]these sections and then you're
- [00:35:24.900]creating a layout for these
- [00:35:26.410]sections.
- [00:35:26.940]So we're going to choose one
- [00:35:28.510]column here.
- [00:35:29.200]There's a ton of different
- [00:35:31.270]options once you choose that
- [00:35:33.540]layout.
- [00:35:34.440]So you can add a section header.
- [00:35:36.440]You can add IDs for section.
- [00:35:39.660]You can format the section
- [00:35:41.360]header if you add it.
- [00:35:42.840]You can change the background.
- [00:35:44.500]So in this particular case, we're
- [00:35:46.880]going to choose a light gray
- [00:35:48.810]background with a
- [00:35:54.880]viewport wrapper.
- [00:35:55.700]So the container is how wide it
- [00:35:57.510]is.
- [00:35:57.900]So by default, it's going to
- [00:35:59.990]kind of go to the edge of the
- [00:36:01.880]navigation.
- [00:36:03.140]Edge to edge is viewport edge
- [00:36:05.830]to viewport edge.
- [00:36:07.840]And then spacing is kind of the
- [00:36:10.010]vertical height of that section.
- [00:36:12.700]By default, it's going to have
- [00:36:14.530]kind of a nice medium height.
- [00:36:16.440]So we're going to choose a
- [00:36:18.010]light gray background with a
- [00:36:19.820]campus pattern, and
- [00:36:21.300]we're just going to click add
- [00:36:22.820]this section.
- [00:36:24.860]So you can see here there's
- [00:36:25.980]this new section, and it's kind
- [00:36:27.470]of slightly gray,
- [00:36:28.300]and there's one column, and I
- [00:36:29.450]can add a component into this
- [00:36:30.560]column.
- [00:36:31.060]So when I click add component,
- [00:36:33.150]then I have all these different
- [00:36:35.230]options of
- [00:36:36.060]stuff that I can add to that.
- [00:36:37.420]So there's two ways to think
- [00:36:39.780]about this.
- [00:36:40.980]One is these components that
- [00:36:44.850]you see when you first click
- [00:36:48.550]this relate to
- [00:36:50.560]content that's probably going
- [00:36:52.430]to be fixed on this page alone.
- [00:36:54.840]So this is stuff that you're
- [00:36:56.430]adding to this page.
- [00:36:57.780]It's probably going to be
- [00:36:58.880]specific to this page.
- [00:37:00.060]So there's also a more button
- [00:37:01.260]and that's what we're going to
- [00:37:02.510]touch on here.
- [00:37:03.280]And we'll come back to this and
- [00:37:04.700]we'll touch on all this stuff
- [00:37:06.070]again.
- [00:37:06.620]But the more button takes you
- [00:37:09.580]to components for content that
- [00:37:12.820]either live
- [00:37:14.080]elsewhere on your site or in
- [00:37:17.190]another system at UNL.
- [00:37:20.060]And I'll reiterate what that
- [00:37:21.740]means here as we kind of go
- [00:37:23.210]through this.
- [00:37:24.820]We are creating a directory
- [00:37:26.660]with this page.
- [00:37:27.900]And so we're referencing
- [00:37:29.100]content that's already on the
- [00:37:30.510]site elsewhere.
- [00:37:31.500]So we're going to create a
- [00:37:32.650]curated list of people.
- [00:37:33.920]So, you know, way back at the
- [00:37:36.030]beginning of the training,
- [00:37:38.100]I created a person piece of
- [00:37:40.630]content for myself.
- [00:37:42.860]So I'm going to say lead
- [00:37:44.200]trainer.
- [00:37:44.960]And then I'm going to go ahead
- [00:37:46.940]and reference myself here.
- [00:37:49.080]So again, like I said, this is
- [00:37:51.690]kind of modular.
- [00:37:53.380]There's different ways.
- [00:37:54.800]There's different ways to
- [00:37:56.470]display this content.
- [00:37:57.780]So I'm going to add this block.
- [00:37:59.280]And you can see here, it put my
- [00:38:04.280]information,
- [00:38:06.920]including that little bit of
- [00:38:08.160]bio information, in this big
- [00:38:09.580]block.
- [00:38:10.020]So just to kind of show you
- [00:38:11.210]what this looks like in a
- [00:38:12.480]different way,
- [00:38:13.200]I'm going to go ahead and add
- [00:38:14.090]another column here.
- [00:38:14.920]I'm going to kind of roll
- [00:38:16.060]through this quickly, leave
- [00:38:17.530]this default.
- [00:38:18.360]So you can see I've got it
- [00:38:20.820]created in another section.
- [00:38:23.940]I'm going to add a component.
- [00:38:24.780]Again, I'm going to go to more.
- [00:38:26.440]I'm going to go to created list.
- [00:38:28.780]So we're going to say, you know,
- [00:38:32.370]other trainers.
- [00:38:34.820]And then we'll say Saren.
- [00:38:37.160]We created Saren at a previous
- [00:38:38.710]training.
- [00:38:39.420]And we're just going to go with
- [00:38:41.120]teaser, which is a different
- [00:38:42.550]display mode.
- [00:38:43.520]And you'll see what that looks
- [00:38:44.830]like here.
- [00:38:45.440]So we're going to click save.
- [00:38:54.760]So we've got our people and
- [00:38:56.300]then got my photo here.
- [00:38:57.800]And then if I click this, it
- [00:38:59.600]takes me to, you know, my full
- [00:39:01.630]page.
- [00:39:02.280]And then we've got other
- [00:39:04.370]trainers with Saren.
- [00:39:06.540]And then we click that, you
- [00:39:07.970]know, it takes it to her full
- [00:39:09.450]page.
- [00:39:09.980]So, you know, you could see how
- [00:39:12.040]by adding these different
- [00:39:13.770]sections in here and then
- [00:39:15.400]adding, you could put a header
- [00:39:17.570]in here for each section.
- [00:39:19.440]So maybe in your department,
- [00:39:21.420]you have faculty, staff,
- [00:39:23.250]administration.
- [00:39:24.740]Grad students, you know, you
- [00:39:26.520]could layer these out by
- [00:39:28.190]section.
- [00:39:29.000]You could even put different
- [00:39:30.300]background colors on them if
- [00:39:31.620]you want to visually denote the
- [00:39:33.040]change as you go down the page.
- [00:39:34.600]But this would be kind of how
- [00:39:36.260]you build a directory page on
- [00:39:38.060]your site.
- [00:39:38.880]And again, it's in our
- [00:39:39.950]navigation.
- [00:39:40.780]We put it in there.
- [00:39:41.720]So this is the first step in a
- [00:39:45.060]builder page.
- [00:39:47.160]So we're going to come back in.
- [00:39:50.440]We're going to add another
- [00:39:51.800]builder page.
- [00:39:52.720]And we're going to get even
- [00:39:53.930]more into...
- [00:39:54.720]Into the components and things
- [00:39:56.060]like that.
- [00:39:56.680]So we're going to build a front
- [00:39:58.530]page of our site.
- [00:39:59.560]We are going to hide the sidebar.
- [00:40:02.700]And we're just going to click
- [00:40:03.690]save.
- [00:40:04.020]So we're going to pop right
- [00:40:07.260]back into this layout tab.
- [00:40:10.520]We're going to add a section.
- [00:40:13.840]Just do one.
- [00:40:15.660]Just keep all this default for
- [00:40:18.230]now.
- [00:40:18.880]We're going to add a component.
- [00:40:22.120]And we're going to do a display
- [00:40:23.730]banner.
- [00:40:24.700]So display banner is sort of
- [00:40:26.780]like a hero that I showed you
- [00:40:28.640]on the previous page,
- [00:40:30.380]except for you can put text and
- [00:40:31.710]buttons on it.
- [00:40:32.480]I'll just show you what that
- [00:40:34.650]looks like here.
- [00:40:36.200]So again, rather than uploading
- [00:40:43.660]another image,
- [00:40:45.680]I'm probably just going to
- [00:40:46.570]choose something that's already
- [00:40:47.680]in here.
- [00:40:48.080]Let's just go with, oh boy, I
- [00:40:51.330]don't know.
- [00:40:52.960]I'm not.
- [00:40:54.680]I can overthink it.
- [00:40:55.440]Let's do this one.
- [00:40:56.380]So again, you've got your
- [00:40:59.260]object position.
- [00:41:00.940]I think that this person is
- [00:41:02.050]kind of walking through the
- [00:41:03.220]middle.
- [00:41:03.740]I'm not even going to mess with
- [00:41:04.840]that.
- [00:41:05.180]More about our people and what
- [00:41:10.000]we do.
- [00:41:11.380]So here's the really cool thing
- [00:41:15.070]about Linksong.
- [00:41:17.400]When you're creating a link on
- [00:41:19.230]your website,
- [00:41:19.980]anytime you create a link
- [00:41:21.410]either in a link field or when
- [00:41:23.210]you're creating a link on a
- [00:41:24.660]page, rather than having to
- [00:41:27.240]know the URL and the address
- [00:41:29.970]bar of your website,
- [00:41:31.740]all you have to do is start
- [00:41:34.170]typing the page, the title of
- [00:41:35.980]the page.
- [00:41:36.840]So, you know, we created, let's
- [00:41:39.590]say,
- [00:41:39.900]what's the most important thing
- [00:41:41.070]we want people to do when they
- [00:41:42.080]come to our site?
- [00:41:42.900]Maybe the most important thing
- [00:41:44.470]is we want them to sign up for
- [00:41:45.800]training.
- [00:41:46.620]So let's just start typing
- [00:41:48.480]training.
- [00:41:49.440]We have a lot of those.
- [00:41:54.640]Gosh, what was that called?
- [00:41:56.760]Was it RSVP?
- [00:41:58.540]Sorry.
- [00:41:59.060]I'm forgetting now.
- [00:42:00.500]Well, let me look what I even
- [00:42:05.750]called that web form page.
- [00:42:10.020]Sorry about that.
- [00:42:10.960]I'm totally blanking out.
- [00:42:12.000]Register for training.
- [00:42:13.940]Jeez.
- [00:42:14.500]Okay.
- [00:42:15.120]So we're going to add a
- [00:42:15.910]component.
- [00:42:16.500]We're going to do display
- [00:42:18.050]banner.
- [00:42:18.740]I should have just saved that.
- [00:42:24.620]So welcome subheaded.
- [00:42:26.820]Welcome to.
- [00:42:29.120]Okay.
- [00:42:46.560]So like I said, you just need
- [00:42:48.840]to start typing the page title
- [00:42:51.400]of the page.
- [00:42:52.720]So you can see there, boom, we've
- [00:42:53.900]created a link.
- [00:42:54.600]To that page sign up for
- [00:42:57.690]training.
- [00:42:58.880]And this display option just
- [00:43:01.760]determines where that text is
- [00:43:04.760]going to float on
- [00:43:06.500]the image. You know,
- [00:43:07.360]this looks pretty sort of asymmetrically
- [00:43:10.020]symmetrical or something like
- [00:43:12.000]that.
- [00:43:12.600]So we could say left center or
- [00:43:14.210]right. We'll just keep it left
- [00:43:16.020]by default.
- [00:43:16.940]So you can see we've got,
- [00:43:24.580]we've got this text here
- [00:43:26.090]floating above the image.
- [00:43:27.980]We've got all this space around
- [00:43:29.280]here. We'll go ahead and save
- [00:43:30.910]it just so we can see what it
- [00:43:32.090]looks like.
- [00:43:32.520]So because this is kind of our
- [00:43:40.200]splash page,
- [00:43:42.640]we want to get rid of all this
- [00:43:43.730]space around here and maybe get
- [00:43:44.950]rid of this page title and put
- [00:43:46.080]it right up against the
- [00:43:46.980]navigation.
- [00:43:47.840]So if you remember back when we
- [00:43:49.760]were in that edit tab, this is
- [00:43:51.610]where we will change that.
- [00:43:54.560]Scroll down, page options, we're
- [00:43:56.430]going to hide that page title.
- [00:43:58.220]And then in layout, so when you're
- [00:44:02.370]in the layout tab and you've
- [00:44:05.670]created sections, there's a
- [00:44:09.250]couple user interfaces to be
- [00:44:12.700]familiar with.
- [00:44:15.020]So if you watch my mouse, I'm
- [00:44:16.460]going to move it slowly, slowly.
- [00:44:18.320]You can see when I move over
- [00:44:22.150]that section.
- [00:44:24.540]Then it pulls up this configure
- [00:44:27.020]section link in the upper left-hand
- [00:44:29.870]side of that section.
- [00:44:31.840]Likewise, if I roll over the
- [00:44:33.530]component, I can have this
- [00:44:35.390]little edit button in the upper
- [00:44:36.970]right-hand part of the
- [00:44:38.290]component.
- [00:44:39.260]So once you've created a
- [00:44:40.450]section, you can edit it in the
- [00:44:41.890]upper left-hand.
- [00:44:43.020]Once you've created a component
- [00:44:44.930]in that section, you can add it
- [00:44:46.760]in the upper right-hand portion
- [00:44:48.550]of the component.
- [00:44:50.000]So you can see I'm hovering
- [00:44:51.550]over this, and you can see the
- [00:44:53.300]space there.
- [00:44:54.520]So I know I want to configure
- [00:44:56.170]the section.
- [00:44:57.160]I want to go edge-to-edge, and
- [00:44:58.870]I want to remove that default
- [00:45:00.490]vertical spacing.
- [00:45:01.880]So we're going to click that,
- [00:45:05.020]save it for good measure, and
- [00:45:07.720]there we go.
- [00:45:09.200]We've got our hero at the top,
- [00:45:11.360]and it's up against the
- [00:45:13.450]navigation like we want.
- [00:45:15.080]But we want to add some more
- [00:45:16.060]stuff to this, so we're going
- [00:45:17.070]to go back into layout,
- [00:45:18.040]and we're going to add another
- [00:45:21.070]section right below it, and we're
- [00:45:23.560]going to do the same thing.
- [00:45:24.500]We're going to do two column
- [00:45:25.100]this time.
- [00:45:25.440]So when you add a two column
- [00:45:26.890]section, you can see you have
- [00:45:28.540]options for what width you want
- [00:45:30.250]those columns to be.
- [00:45:31.580]In this case, we're just going
- [00:45:32.880]to do 50-50, and we're going to
- [00:45:34.590]just keep this default.
- [00:45:35.820]And now you can see you have
- [00:45:37.910]two different components you
- [00:45:39.770]can add.
- [00:45:40.600]And if you're really eagle-eyed,
- [00:45:42.820]you'll notice that the types of
- [00:45:44.880]components you can add to a two
- [00:45:46.740]column layout
- [00:45:47.800]are slightly different than the
- [00:45:49.670]ones you can add to a single
- [00:45:51.380]column layout.
- [00:45:52.280]That's just because some things
- [00:45:53.540]look better big.
- [00:45:54.480]But they don't look as good
- [00:45:56.520]small and vice versa.
- [00:45:58.200]Some things look good in a
- [00:45:59.710]column, but they don't look
- [00:46:01.450]good fully blown out.
- [00:46:02.960]So we're just going to go card
- [00:46:04.160]here.
- [00:46:04.540]Card is like what it says.
- [00:46:08.400]Basically, it's like a baseball
- [00:46:09.940]card or a Pokemon card.
- [00:46:11.140]It's like a little carded
- [00:46:12.610]information.
- [00:46:13.620]You have a photo.
- [00:46:15.120]I think it's optional.
- [00:46:16.680]A headline with some text and a
- [00:46:18.920]button.
- [00:46:19.740]So let's just say about...
- [00:46:24.460]Our department.
- [00:46:25.720]So we're going to link to about
- [00:46:27.020]our department.
- [00:46:27.860]So we'll say about our
- [00:46:30.020]department.
- [00:46:31.600]So we're going to create a link
- [00:46:32.900]to about our department page.
- [00:46:34.380]I'm just going to fill...
- [00:46:36.760]A lot of these are optional
- [00:46:37.780]again, but we're going to fill
- [00:46:39.000]them in so you can see what
- [00:46:39.960]they look like.
- [00:46:40.780]Add an image.
- [00:46:54.440]And then you can choose a
- [00:46:57.570]background color for that card.
- [00:47:02.180]So there's a card.
- [00:47:07.680]We've got one.
- [00:47:08.600]And just to make the page
- [00:47:09.690]balanced, we're going to go
- [00:47:11.160]ahead and add another one over
- [00:47:12.390]here.
- [00:47:12.900]So this is going to be our
- [00:47:16.390]people, right?
- [00:47:19.220]And I'm not going to fill this
- [00:47:20.070]out because I want to show you
- [00:47:20.910]something.
- [00:47:21.420]So people over line.
- [00:47:24.420]People subhead.
- [00:47:26.420]So you'll notice I did not fill
- [00:47:36.280]in the headline link up here.
- [00:47:46.660]And by doing that, I was given
- [00:47:48.760]the ability to add buttons at
- [00:47:50.970]the bottom of the card.
- [00:47:54.400]So here is where I could say
- [00:47:57.060]link to that page for our
- [00:47:59.670]people.
- [00:48:00.900]People are people.
- [00:48:03.520]And then we'll just go with the
- [00:48:07.530]same color background.
- [00:48:10.880]So if I were building this in
- [00:48:13.520]real life, I would make these
- [00:48:16.400]both the same.
- [00:48:18.140]I would either make the
- [00:48:19.050]headline the link or the button
- [00:48:20.280]the link.
- [00:48:20.860]I just wanted to do this to
- [00:48:23.140]show you that.
- [00:48:24.380]Not only are there all these
- [00:48:26.560]different components you can
- [00:48:28.820]add to build your pages out,
- [00:48:31.020]but within the components
- [00:48:32.450]themselves, there are often, in
- [00:48:34.640]many cases, lots of different
- [00:48:36.600]options for displaying those
- [00:48:38.490]components.
- [00:48:39.580]So again, these are both cards,
- [00:48:41.420]but they have different ways of
- [00:48:43.130]displaying them, not only with
- [00:48:44.770]how you create the links in
- [00:48:46.440]them, but the background colors
- [00:48:48.220]as well.
- [00:48:48.940]So those are cards.
- [00:48:52.000]And again, in that
- [00:48:52.800]documentation.
- [00:48:54.360]There's a page that there's
- [00:48:56.250]examples of all the different
- [00:48:58.250]components that you can add and
- [00:49:00.350]a page that shows them all.
- [00:49:02.440]So we're going to add, let's
- [00:49:04.360]say we want to add some news
- [00:49:06.120]and some events to our front
- [00:49:07.960]page.
- [00:49:08.600]So we're going to go with one
- [00:49:10.890]column here.
- [00:49:12.240]We're just going to kind of
- [00:49:13.500]roll through this quick because
- [00:49:15.010]there's a few more things that
- [00:49:16.530]we need to cover.
- [00:49:17.580]So again, we're going to add
- [00:49:21.440]events.
- [00:49:22.960]So this is something that.
- [00:49:24.340]It is not on this page directly.
- [00:49:27.080]It's pulling from a different
- [00:49:28.000]system.
- [00:49:28.320]So we're going to click more.
- [00:49:29.340]We're going to click upcoming
- [00:49:30.520]events over here.
- [00:49:31.360]Aggregated content.
- [00:49:32.420]And this is another nice thing.
- [00:49:34.640]In the old system, you had to
- [00:49:36.230]know JavaScript to just to get
- [00:49:37.870]events on your page.
- [00:49:39.200]In the new system, all you have
- [00:49:41.930]to do is type the URL for your
- [00:49:44.460]events calendar.
- [00:49:46.120]So we're just going to go ahead
- [00:49:50.330]and add this.
- [00:49:54.320]And it pops right in there.
- [00:49:56.400]It's pulling our events.
- [00:49:57.840]And news is very similar.
- [00:50:01.180]It's very easy.
- [00:50:02.320]You know, at the bottom of
- [00:50:04.660]those news articles, it was
- [00:50:07.100]pulling in the latest news.
- [00:50:09.780]We just want to do the same
- [00:50:10.760]thing since this is our front
- [00:50:11.900]page.
- [00:50:12.360]So we're going to click more,
- [00:50:14.390]news aggregation.
- [00:50:15.420]And we'll just say latest news.
- [00:50:20.840]And say four.
- [00:50:24.820]Add block.
- [00:50:25.600]And we'll scroll up just to see
- [00:50:28.870]what our page is looking like.
- [00:50:32.500]So our page is looking pretty
- [00:50:36.720]nice.
- [00:50:37.980]There's some stuff we could
- [00:50:39.130]clean up with the spacing if we
- [00:50:40.390]wanted to,
- [00:50:40.980]if we wanted to go back into
- [00:50:42.110]the layout tab.
- [00:50:42.900]But we'll just say it's good
- [00:50:44.100]for now.
- [00:50:44.620]I've covered all of these here.
- [00:50:47.500]I will say that there is a tab
- [00:50:49.170]for revisions.
- [00:50:50.320]So, you know, I saved the page.
- [00:50:54.280]I saved the page five times,
- [00:50:55.360]and you can see all of those
- [00:50:56.330]revisions.
- [00:50:56.960]So this is very helpful if you,
- [00:50:59.080]you know, save a page and it
- [00:51:00.890]has screw-ups on it.
- [00:51:02.560]You can obviously just revert
- [00:51:03.910]back to the previous version of
- [00:51:05.330]the page.
- [00:51:05.920]It's also helpful if you see,
- [00:51:07.580]if you have a bunch of people
- [00:51:09.140]editing your site,
- [00:51:10.360]you can see who all has made
- [00:51:12.270]changes to that page.
- [00:51:14.100]And again, if you need to, you
- [00:51:15.660]can roll back to a previous
- [00:51:16.990]version really easily.
- [00:51:18.420]The replicate tab is a really
- [00:51:20.650]cool feature of the new CMS
- [00:51:22.700]where
- [00:51:24.260]you can actually replicate
- [00:51:25.870]pages.
- [00:51:26.440]So let's say we like the top
- [00:51:27.980]part of this page and we want
- [00:51:29.650]to use it for another page.
- [00:51:31.000]Well, we're just going to click
- [00:51:32.130]replicate.
- [00:51:32.640]Let's just maybe call it, I don't
- [00:51:35.210]know, academics or something
- [00:51:37.750]like that.
- [00:51:38.740]So we're going to replicate it.
- [00:51:42.000]And then boom, we have a page
- [00:51:44.420]called academics.
- [00:51:46.120]Let's just say, you know, for
- [00:51:49.320]sake of changing it really
- [00:51:51.240]quick, we're going to reconfigure
- [00:51:54.240]this.
- [00:51:54.700]So let's just say we're going
- [00:51:56.680]to choose a different image,
- [00:51:58.760]right?
- [00:51:59.520]Choose this.
- [00:52:24.220]So we could very easily come in
- [00:52:27.530]here, update that.
- [00:52:30.140]Let's say we don't want news on
- [00:52:33.110]our page.
- [00:52:34.340]Get rid of it.
- [00:52:35.840]Remove it.
- [00:52:37.440]Obviously, I didn't choose a
- [00:52:39.860]very good photo for the top,
- [00:52:42.190]but that's not either here nor
- [00:52:44.740]there.
- [00:52:45.120]Then save it.
- [00:52:47.220]So, you know, say you like the
- [00:52:49.200]general layout of a page you've
- [00:52:50.920]created, you could just
- [00:52:52.490]replicate
- [00:52:53.220]that and you could just start
- [00:52:53.860]with that.
- [00:52:54.200]You could just start switching
- [00:52:55.260]it out really easily.
- [00:52:56.020]That's a really nice feature of
- [00:52:57.320]this site.
- [00:52:57.920]Obviously, I wouldn't want to
- [00:52:59.350]go live with this, but I just
- [00:53:00.800]wanted to show you how quick
- [00:53:02.040]it was to replicate a page and
- [00:53:03.470]then start editing that page
- [00:53:04.970]moving forward.
- [00:53:05.880]So those are kind of all the
- [00:53:09.570]adding content.
- [00:53:12.180]I will say I had showed you the
- [00:53:14.170]media library before, and
- [00:53:16.080]because that is content related,
- [00:53:18.580]that is under content.
- [00:53:19.720]So if I click content media.
- [00:53:24.180]This is basically just going to
- [00:53:26.280]give you a full page display of
- [00:53:28.290]your media library.
- [00:53:29.940]So that's the little window
- [00:53:31.660]that opens up when you add an
- [00:53:33.510]image to a component or
- [00:53:34.840]something.
- [00:53:35.840]Except this is everything.
- [00:53:37.340]This is all the files, you know,
- [00:53:39.480]all the images, all the videos.
- [00:53:41.780]So I'm going to show you how to
- [00:53:42.840]add.
- [00:53:43.140]You've basically seen how to
- [00:53:44.480]add an image.
- [00:53:45.240]So I'm going to show you how to
- [00:53:46.570]add a file.
- [00:53:54.160]Sorry, go to media, add media
- [00:53:58.370]file.
- [00:53:59.440]We'll get you the same page
- [00:54:00.980]that I'm on now.
- [00:54:01.840]So we're going to choose a file.
- [00:54:02.980]And we are going to upload it.
- [00:54:09.860]So you can see here that
- [00:54:13.330]whenever you upload a file,
- [00:54:17.780]you're going to get this little
- [00:54:18.900]prompt.
- [00:54:19.240]It says, I certify the
- [00:54:20.130]following is true.
- [00:54:21.080]I've done due diligence to
- [00:54:22.720]assure that this file
- [00:54:24.140]meets accessibility standards.
- [00:54:25.720]So what does that mean?
- [00:54:28.460]Well, if you do not create a
- [00:54:31.230]PDF or a Word doc
- [00:54:32.860]with accessibility in mind,
- [00:54:39.300]then it is very likely that it
- [00:54:40.990]is not going to be able
- [00:54:42.320]to be read by a screen reader
- [00:54:43.880]or anybody with assistive
- [00:54:45.060]technology.
- [00:54:45.720]And with Title II rules, new
- [00:54:48.960]rules looming next April,
- [00:54:52.120]I would make very,
- [00:54:54.120]very sure that any files you
- [00:54:55.540]upload to your site
- [00:54:56.560]do meet accessibility standards.
- [00:54:58.280]We have documentation on the WDN
- [00:55:00.860]website
- [00:55:01.580]about how you can create
- [00:55:04.210]accessible files
- [00:55:05.820]using InDesign and Word.
- [00:55:08.080]But I would also say this.
- [00:55:11.520]If you have content that you
- [00:55:13.830]want everybody on your website,
- [00:55:16.700]everybody coming to your
- [00:55:18.120]website to be able to see,
- [00:55:19.520]then that content should be a
- [00:55:21.440]webpage on your site.
- [00:55:24.100]We have a little board over
- [00:55:25.200]here that shows traffic coming
- [00:55:26.510]to our site.
- [00:55:27.200]And, you know, as students get
- [00:55:29.750]back,
- [00:55:30.360]about almost 50% of our traffic
- [00:55:33.590]coming to our site is on mobile
- [00:55:36.190]devices.
- [00:55:37.160]And if you have ever tried to
- [00:55:41.040]look at a PDF,
- [00:55:42.280]maybe a restaurant menu or
- [00:55:43.640]something like that on your
- [00:55:45.070]phone,
- [00:55:45.540]you'll know that it is
- [00:55:48.030]frustrating at best.
- [00:55:49.440]And at worst, it is pretty much
- [00:55:52.140]unreadable.
- [00:55:54.080]So not only are there the
- [00:55:55.950]accessibility reasons
- [00:55:57.820]for making all your content on
- [00:56:01.500]your site into a webpage,
- [00:56:04.800]but it's just, you know, you're
- [00:56:07.530]possibly,
- [00:56:08.320]if you're putting up content as
- [00:56:10.160]a PDF,
- [00:56:10.640]you're possibly making it
- [00:56:13.930]hostile to almost 50% of the
- [00:56:16.540]traffic
- [00:56:17.220]coming to your website,
- [00:56:18.300]just because of the nature of
- [00:56:19.850]how mobile devices read PDFs.
- [00:56:24.060]So just please, if you have
- [00:56:26.590]content
- [00:56:27.400]that you want everybody to see
- [00:56:28.830]on your website,
- [00:56:29.740]I would just recommend making
- [00:56:32.370]it into a page,
- [00:56:33.780]a web page on your website.
- [00:56:35.220]So now that I've said that,
- [00:56:39.100]tagging works very similar to
- [00:56:42.850]images.
- [00:56:44.280]It works the same way, actually.
- [00:56:45.620]So it's actually working,
- [00:56:46.940]pulling from the same tag
- [00:56:48.150]library.
- [00:56:48.840]So we know these are meeting
- [00:56:50.660]notes.
- [00:56:54.040]There's a tag for that.
- [00:56:55.200]Looks like there's a tag for
- [00:57:00.190]that.
- [00:57:01.440]So there's tags for all this.
- [00:57:05.260]So we're going to save that.
- [00:57:06.220]So you can see this file.
- [00:57:10.340]Likewise, if I want to add a
- [00:57:12.650]remote video,
- [00:57:14.000]all I need is a URL from MediaHub.
- [00:57:24.020]I don't know why I'm getting
- [00:57:28.100]stuck on this login screen.
- [00:57:32.600]All right.
- [00:57:39.700]So all we need for this is the
- [00:57:43.970]URL.
- [00:57:44.680]So pop that in there.
- [00:57:54.000]And welcome.
- [00:57:54.980]Student Affairs.
- [00:57:59.040]I think it's Student Life now.
- [00:58:01.720]Okay.
- [00:58:04.340]Number five.
- [00:58:05.600]Click save.
- [00:58:08.440]So now you can see the file
- [00:58:11.490]that we uploaded, the video
- [00:58:13.950]that we uploaded.
- [00:58:16.100]And now I'm going to show you
- [00:58:17.990]really quick how to add those
- [00:58:19.660]to your site.
- [00:58:21.120]So we'll go back.
- [00:58:23.980]Back into about our department.
- [00:58:25.480]And as I previously mentioned,
- [00:58:28.140]adding a link within your WYSIWYG
- [00:58:30.860]editor is very similar to
- [00:58:32.930]adding a link in the link field.
- [00:58:35.860]You just click the link button.
- [00:58:37.260]And if you know the name of the
- [00:58:38.860]file, you just have to start
- [00:58:40.470]typing it, right?
- [00:58:41.760]So I just added this one.
- [00:58:43.840]And I've just created a link to
- [00:58:46.630]that.
- [00:58:47.460]So similarly, if I want to add
- [00:58:50.460]a video.
- [00:58:53.960]I'll click the media library
- [00:58:55.960]button.
- [00:58:56.740]Click the remote video tab over
- [00:58:58.820]here on the left.
- [00:59:00.120]And it takes a second to toggle
- [00:59:01.530]between the two.
- [00:59:02.500]And I'm going to click that.
- [00:59:05.900]Insert it.
- [00:59:08.760]And the formatting is similar,
- [00:59:10.800]right?
- [00:59:11.440]I can do default, narrow, and
- [00:59:13.370]then I can do it offset.
- [00:59:15.000]I'm just going to do it default.
- [00:59:16.620]I think that looks pretty good.
- [00:59:23.940]All right, so you can see here,
- [00:59:29.240]if I hover over that link,
- [00:59:33.640]it's created a link to our PDF,
- [00:59:35.230]and it's embedded that video.
- [00:59:37.220]So that is how you add and
- [00:59:39.670]upload files and link to them,
- [00:59:42.940]as well as videos.
- [00:59:44.160]There's a couple.
- [00:59:45.200]One more thing I want to talk
- [00:59:46.960]about, and then we can go to
- [00:59:48.270]questions.
- [00:59:48.900]So talking about some of these
- [00:59:51.180]things up here,
- [00:59:53.920]but people is where you would
- [00:59:56.250]go if you need to add people to
- [00:59:58.850]your website.
- [01:00:00.020]So you click import and you can
- [01:00:02.680]either type their university ID
- [01:00:05.540]or just their
- [01:00:06.400]name.
- [01:00:06.760]So we're going to.
- [01:00:07.760]So then if you need to add them,
- [01:00:13.130]you'd import them.
- [01:00:16.960]Oh, I don't know why I'm not
- [01:00:22.170]able to.
- [01:00:23.900]I don't see that.
- [01:00:24.360]Anyway.
- [01:00:25.340]That was weird.
- [01:00:31.140]But for each person, you can
- [01:00:34.330]see what level of access they
- [01:00:37.510]have.
- [01:00:38.540]So when you're adding somebody
- [01:00:41.240]to a site, you'll either, there's
- [01:00:44.330]three roles you can
- [01:00:46.100]give them, site admin, editor,
- [01:00:47.450]or viewer.
- [01:00:48.000]So site admin is somebody who
- [01:00:50.030]can add content, edit content,
- [01:00:52.390]edit content, edit content,
- [01:00:53.880]delete content, although I
- [01:00:55.460]wouldn't, I would say don't
- [01:00:56.630]delete content.
- [01:00:57.680]And it's, and you can also add
- [01:01:01.400]people and remove people.
- [01:01:05.040]You can even come into
- [01:01:06.350]configuration here, system, so
- [01:01:08.460]basic site settings.
- [01:01:10.020]This is something where you set
- [01:01:13.250]your site title.
- [01:01:14.600]You probably won't need to
- [01:01:15.930]change it ever, but you can set
- [01:01:17.500]your site affiliation there.
- [01:01:19.280]So your site affiliation is,
- [01:01:23.860]the little line right here
- [01:01:25.690]above your site title.
- [01:01:27.240]So that is your affiliation.
- [01:01:30.560]And if you, for some reason,
- [01:01:31.870]need to change what the front
- [01:01:33.140]page of your site is,
- [01:01:34.180]that is all under configuration
- [01:01:36.290]system.
- [01:01:36.980]So again, somebody with a site
- [01:01:41.810]admin access can do all of
- [01:01:44.450]those things.
- [01:01:46.740]Editor access is one step down
- [01:01:48.860]from that.
- [01:01:49.840]They can add content and they
- [01:01:51.180]can edit content.
- [01:01:52.180]They cannot delete content.
- [01:01:53.840]And they can't add or remove
- [01:01:55.280]users.
- [01:01:55.840]And they can't change the site
- [01:01:56.910]configuration stuff.
- [01:01:57.840]So I'm going to show you one
- [01:01:59.740]more thing really quick.
- [01:02:01.840]And this is related to the
- [01:02:04.290]viewer role.
- [01:02:05.840]So the viewer role is somebody
- [01:02:08.740]that only has access to your
- [01:02:11.110]site.
- [01:02:11.840]And they can view content in
- [01:02:13.390]any published state.
- [01:02:14.840]So what I mean by that is when
- [01:02:17.170]you create a page, what I've
- [01:02:19.340]been doing basically by default
- [01:02:21.440]is just creating published
- [01:02:23.160]pages.
- [01:02:23.820]There are other statuses of
- [01:02:26.170]pages when you create them or
- [01:02:28.630]edit them.
- [01:02:29.820]You can actually take a page
- [01:02:31.890]and create a new draft.
- [01:02:33.820]So this would not only retain
- [01:02:36.010]the live version of that page
- [01:02:37.740]that's viewable to everybody,
- [01:02:39.950]but then it would also create a
- [01:02:41.990]new version of that page that
- [01:02:43.950]is only viewable to people with
- [01:02:46.080]access to your site.
- [01:02:47.820]Unpublished status would be.
- [01:02:53.800]A page that only people with
- [01:02:56.070]access to your site could see.
- [01:02:58.580]Even if you shared the link to
- [01:03:00.960]somebody who didn't have access
- [01:03:03.130]to the site, they would not be
- [01:03:05.820]able to see it because it's
- [01:03:07.480]only viewable to people who
- [01:03:09.730]have any sort of access.
- [01:03:11.760]So going back to this viewer
- [01:03:13.650]role, this viewer role, we've
- [01:03:15.290]kind of always referred to it
- [01:03:16.990]as the approver role, right?
- [01:03:19.060]So maybe it's somebody who
- [01:03:20.520]doesn't want any editable
- [01:03:22.040]access to your site.
- [01:03:23.520]They just want to be able to
- [01:03:24.950]look at pages that aren't live
- [01:03:26.580]and either give you the thumbs
- [01:03:28.190]up or the thumbs down on them.
- [01:03:30.000]So let's say your supervisor
- [01:03:32.190]who does not want to edit the
- [01:03:34.450]site says, hey, I need you to
- [01:03:36.730]add three new pages to your
- [01:03:38.580]website in this section.
- [01:03:40.840]But before you go live with
- [01:03:43.190]them, I want to look at them
- [01:03:45.170]and make sure they're okay.
- [01:03:47.300]So in that case, you would give
- [01:03:49.340]them viewer access.
- [01:03:50.680]You'd create a role for them
- [01:03:51.980]and give them viewer access.
- [01:03:53.520]And when you were adding
- [01:03:55.350]content, you'd go add content,
- [01:03:57.890]create your pages, and then you'd
- [01:04:00.960]make sure that they're unpublished.
- [01:04:02.420]You'd create the pages, make
- [01:04:04.300]sure they're unpublished, and
- [01:04:06.340]then you could share that URL
- [01:04:08.160]with the person with the viewer
- [01:04:10.120]role, and then they could see
- [01:04:12.020]it.
- [01:04:12.540]They'd have to be logged in to
- [01:04:13.940]see it, but they could see it.
- [01:04:15.600]Same with editor.
- [01:04:17.320]An editor could do those same
- [01:04:18.700]things.
- [01:04:19.260]So those are the three roles
- [01:04:21.190]that you can assign to people.
- [01:04:23.520]Uh, on your website.
- [01:04:25.020]And then those are sort of the
- [01:04:26.290]differences between those roles.
- [01:04:27.980]So I said, there's only one
- [01:04:29.830]more thing, but again, I have
- [01:04:31.500]one more thing and then we'll
- [01:04:33.380]go to questions.
- [01:04:33.920]So cms.unl.edu, obviously you've
- [01:04:37.190]already been to this site
- [01:04:39.110]because you already signed up
- [01:04:41.500]for training.
- [01:04:41.960]You have to do that here.
- [01:04:43.040]So if you haven't started a
- [01:04:45.610]site, you can also request a
- [01:04:48.350]new site here on this website.
- [01:04:51.580]This is cms.unl.edu.
- [01:04:53.520]There's also a link to the
- [01:04:54.920]documentation that we've
- [01:04:56.410]mentioned multiple times on
- [01:04:58.030]this site.
- [01:04:58.880]There's also a link to make
- [01:05:00.360]your site public.
- [01:05:01.600]So say you have a site that's
- [01:05:03.900]at a URL like cms.unl.edu, your-site,
- [01:05:07.700]and you want it to be
- [01:05:09.440]widgets.unl.edu, this is where
- [01:05:12.400]you would say, "Okay, I want to
- [01:05:14.890]create this subdomain,
- [01:05:16.960]widgets.unl.edu, and point it
- [01:05:19.360]at my URL so that's what it's
- [01:05:21.090]mapped to."
- [01:05:22.880]Now, if you're creating a new
- [01:05:24.380]subdomain, you also have to
- [01:05:25.820]fill out another form,
- [01:05:27.040]but that is also linked on this
- [01:05:30.040]page. So, cms.unl.edu, a good
- [01:05:34.070]site to keep in mind
- [01:05:36.000]if you're moving through this
- [01:05:37.520]process. Some of you may have
- [01:05:39.090]created a site from scratch,
- [01:05:40.720]and some of you may have been
- [01:05:41.790]given edit access to something
- [01:05:43.070]that's already existed. So,
- [01:05:44.560]with that being said, I am now
- [01:05:47.500]done with my training, and we
- [01:05:49.970]will see if there
- [01:05:52.800]are any questions. Sorry, I
- [01:05:53.860]should go back to my share here
- [01:05:56.030]quick,
- [01:05:56.720]and I will see if there's any
- [01:05:59.710]questions. All right, Warren, I
- [01:06:04.010]guess he's already hopped off,
- [01:06:07.360]but we will send a, as I
- [01:06:08.770]mentioned, we'll send a
- [01:06:10.330]recording around of the
- [01:06:11.820]training
- [01:06:12.480]to everybody who attended today.
- [01:06:16.080]So, do we have any questions
- [01:06:18.910]from the remaining people
- [01:06:21.600]here? Any specific questions?
- [01:06:25.420]No, I think it's just three now.
- [01:06:29.260]All right, Julie,
- [01:06:31.360]thanks for joining us this
- [01:06:32.650]morning. If you have any
- [01:06:33.770]questions, just let me know. I'll
- [01:06:35.520]send this recording around. I
- [01:06:38.920]appreciate it. Have a good rest
- [01:06:41.100]of your day. Thank you.
