- [00:00:05.271]So, I chose
- [00:00:06.573]STS because as I grew up, I really enjoyed working with my hands
- [00:00:11.444]and my father taught me that, at a young age, that it was very valuable.
- [00:00:15.148]And so I started taking classes in high school and just loved them.
- [00:00:19.386]And so I figured maybe I could do one of those as my actual career.
- [00:00:23.857]Maybe I could be a welder, maybe I could do construction.
- [00:00:26.926]But, I think I found later that I really enjoy being around people.
- [00:00:31.398]So, that really made me think I want to be a teacher, UNL really spoke to me.
- [00:00:36.069]I love the people here.
- [00:00:37.604]East campus is amazing and just the hometown vibe that you get
- [00:00:42.208]while being here matches close to my home.
- [00:00:44.844]Skilled and Technical Science really incorporates everything that we do
- [00:00:48.648]in the fact that the things that we are doing is skilled.
- [00:00:51.518]It's not just outside in a shop, but we're working with our hands
- [00:00:55.889]in skilled performances and practices, and we're working inside
- [00:01:00.427]of the technical sciences being, automotive, welding, construction.
- [00:01:06.533]So the SCC two plus two program is set up through
- [00:01:10.537]either the Lincoln SCC campus or Milford's SCC campus.
- [00:01:14.507]We have to take about nine credits in four different areas manufacturing,
- [00:01:19.879]welding, construction, automotive. So, you start at SCC
- [00:01:25.051]and then you get the technical skills involved
- [00:01:28.855]and what you need to teach industrial art classes.
- [00:01:32.125]But then you come here and Eric takes you on his hands
- [00:01:35.395]and all of the ALEC instructors, and they teach you how to be a teacher.
- [00:01:39.933]I would describe STS in three words as practical, purposeful, and empowering.
- [00:01:45.772]If you're learning how to nail walls up or to weld
- [00:01:50.910]or fix an engine, the chances are chances are you're going to be doing that
- [00:01:55.348]once you get out in the real world for your job.
- [00:01:58.151]So, it's a very everything you're learning
- [00:02:01.020]has a lot to do with what you'll be doing someday.
- [00:02:04.357]Empowering is really what I think
- [00:02:06.893]when I think of STS. Everything that you do with STS
- [00:02:10.330]gives you a sense of confidence and that you can do anything you want.
- [00:02:14.667]We're not just trying to create, people who can do skills well,
- [00:02:19.339]but lifelong learners and people who are willing to fail
- [00:02:24.144]but try and keep trying until they get it right.
