How to add a trusted location so that macros can be enabled in the budget template.

Search:

[00:00:05.130]Microsoft has updated macro
[00:00:07.040]security protocols.
[00:00:09.000]By default, files downloaded
[00:00:10.870]from the internet with embedded
[00:00:12.660]macros will be disabled.
[00:00:14.000]This means before using the UNL
[00:00:15.950]Budget Template, you'll need to
[00:00:18.110]save the file to a trusted
[00:00:20.020]location on your computer, OneDrive,
[00:00:22.060]or a network drive.
[00:00:24.000]To set your trusted locations
[00:00:26.180]in Excel, go to File, Options,
[00:00:30.570]Trust Center, and then Trust
[00:00:35.260]Center Settings, and then go to
[00:00:40.200]Trusted Locations.
[00:00:42.000]I suggest having a designated
[00:00:44.330]location or locations where you
[00:00:46.850]save budgets before working in
[00:00:49.260]them.
[00:00:50.000]For me, this is a folder in my
[00:00:51.830]OneDrive or our shared drive.
[00:00:54.000]I'll show you how to set both
[00:00:56.390]of those up now.
[00:00:58.000]Since I will be using a network,
[00:01:00.300]I want to allow trusted
[00:01:01.920]locations on my network.
[00:01:04.000]Then I'll add a location.
[00:01:06.000]Go to Browse.
[00:01:08.000]Our shared drive has a folder
[00:01:11.840]called Proposals where we drop
[00:01:16.000]all proposals.
[00:01:18.000]I click OK.
[00:01:20.000]Since there are subfolders in
[00:01:21.430]there, I want to make sure that
[00:01:22.920]this is checked.
[00:01:24.000]Then I click OK.
[00:01:26.000]And it's added this as a
[00:01:26.990]trusted location.
[00:01:28.000]I'll add one more, my OneDrive
[00:01:31.230]folder, called Budgets in
[00:01:33.340]Progress, where I will drop
[00:01:35.390]budgets before they get saved
[00:01:37.680]out into our network drive.
[00:01:40.000]Here it is, Budgets in Progress.
[00:01:44.000]You can see it's from my OneDrive.
[00:01:46.000]Click OK.
[00:01:48.000]And I'll add subfolders in
[00:01:50.410]there as well.
[00:01:54.000]Once you've added these
[00:01:55.350]locations as trusted places,
[00:01:58.200]then you can close out of the
[00:02:00.520]budget template and reopen it
[00:02:02.800]from that location.
[00:02:04.000]And it will get rid of this red
[00:02:07.380]security risk bar.
[00:02:10.000]To help protect your computer
[00:02:14.520]from malicious macros, which is
[00:02:18.000]the whole point of Microsoft
[00:02:18.000]security updates,
[00:02:18.000]I suggest making your trusted
[00:02:19.500]locations somewhere other than
[00:02:21.120]your default downloads location.
[00:02:23.000]I also suggest keeping your
[00:02:25.070]macro security settings at Disable
[00:02:27.760]VBA Macros with Notifications.
[00:02:30.000]This gives you the little
[00:02:31.490]yellow bar to ensure that you
[00:02:33.190]want to enable the macros.
[00:02:35.000]And then finally, only download
[00:02:37.260]files from trusted sites or
[00:02:39.250]emails from trusted people that
[00:02:41.380]don't look fishy.
