- [00:00:00.000]okay okay next slide I'm sorry
- [00:00:06.420]that's gonna be silly I'm gonna
- [00:00:08.380]have to keep saying that
- [00:00:10.020]okay so here's like it's not up
- [00:00:12.810]your formatting but oh shoot
- [00:00:15.560]that's okay it'll it hopefully
- [00:00:17.960]will
- [00:00:18.160]be okay um this is my contact
- [00:00:20.440]information if you guys have
- [00:00:22.490]like any questions with any
- [00:00:24.720]grants that
- [00:00:25.500]you see through here you can
- [00:00:27.130]always shoot me an email um
- [00:00:28.800]that's usually the quickest way
- [00:00:30.620]I'm
- [00:00:31.160]always in and out of my office
- [00:00:32.750]because I just have a bunch of
- [00:00:34.070]different uh groups and
- [00:00:35.290]projects that
- [00:00:36.280]I'm um with so I listed the
- [00:00:39.240]projects that are um the
- [00:00:41.690]organizations that I um just do
- [00:00:45.080]these are just
- [00:00:46.620]ones that are kind of more uh
- [00:00:49.040]community oriented um Chapel
- [00:00:51.690]Rotary uh Plains West Casa that's
- [00:00:54.640]a
- [00:00:54.840]child uh
- [00:00:55.500]advocate center um Dual County
- [00:00:58.460]Tourism Creek Valley Youth
- [00:01:00.510]Activities Chapel Community for
- [00:01:02.760]Kids uh Chapel Community Fund
- [00:01:05.080]Chapel Chamber and um Creek
- [00:01:07.220]Valley Parent Teacher
- [00:01:09.040]Organization so
- [00:01:10.760]I listed these because through
- [00:01:12.620]the slides you'll kind of see
- [00:01:14.110]um ways you could maybe
- [00:01:16.080]collaborate
- [00:01:16.540]with different entities in your
- [00:01:19.240]community so I'll wait till
- [00:01:21.640]Jamie gets back for the next
- [00:01:23.840]slide
- [00:01:24.360]bye
- [00:01:25.360]bye
- [00:01:25.500]-bye I have automatic lights in
- [00:01:27.170]this room I didn't think they
- [00:01:28.310]were
- [00:01:28.520]okay so I started um in
- [00:01:31.940]community development five
- [00:01:36.080]years ago um and prior to that
- [00:01:40.460]I did nothing related to
- [00:01:42.060]community development I was a
- [00:01:44.060]child welfare adult protection
- [00:01:46.250]um
- [00:01:47.360]uh supervisor for 14 years in
- [00:01:50.850]Sedgwick County Colorado so um
- [00:01:54.000]I've always lived
- [00:01:55.360]in Chapel uh most of my adult
- [00:01:58.060]life just not worked here um
- [00:02:00.320]until the last five years so
- [00:02:02.440]my first big project was this
- [00:02:05.540]Chapel Plaza project um and
- [00:02:08.440]what it was prior was just a
- [00:02:11.420]big
- [00:02:11.740]dirt um area there was like an
- [00:02:13.900]abandoned building here um we
- [00:02:16.180]had to tear down and um now we
- [00:02:19.790]have
- [00:02:20.380]uh Chapel USA days here we um
- [00:02:24.280]you know uh you know I've been
- [00:02:25.240]working here for a long time
- [00:02:25.340]and I've
- [00:02:25.360]have beer gardens here. We have
- [00:02:27.740]concerts here. So just kind of
- [00:02:30.110]a community place that we are
- [00:02:32.160]able to utilize now. That was
- [00:02:35.090]kind of just a slum piece of
- [00:02:37.940]property, really. And some of
- [00:02:40.520]the trusts
- [00:02:41.540]are, and grants that I received
- [00:02:43.830]through this, are the Thomas
- [00:02:45.950]Buckley and Virginia Smith,
- [00:02:48.200]which if you know Chapel, those
- [00:02:50.510]two are actually local trusts
- [00:02:52.660]that really help out our
- [00:02:54.370]community.
- [00:02:55.360]A lot. So you'll see them a few
- [00:02:57.960]times repetitively. We did use
- [00:03:00.770]the Panhandle Partnership
- [00:03:02.660]Greater Good Grant, Union
- [00:03:04.940]Pacific, the Chapel, City of
- [00:03:07.550]Chapel, usually on projects
- [00:03:09.960]like this,
- [00:03:11.060]we are using Kino funds. And
- [00:03:13.330]then we did receive the Civic
- [00:03:15.510]and Community Center Financing
- [00:03:18.060]Fund.
- [00:03:18.700]And one thing that helps with
- [00:03:22.120]that is being a certified lead.
- [00:03:25.360]Leadership community. So those
- [00:03:28.060]kind of help you get those
- [00:03:29.700]bigger grants. And then also,
- [00:03:33.080]if anybody's looking to install
- [00:03:35.890]electric car charging stations,
- [00:03:38.840]the state of Nebraska does do
- [00:03:41.480]a reimbursement program for
- [00:03:43.840]those. So that's kind of just
- [00:03:46.340]my first big project here in
- [00:03:48.600]Chapel.
- [00:03:49.620]Next.
- [00:03:51.140]So,
- [00:03:55.360]these two murals were actually
- [00:03:57.750]painted by Lauren Olson out of
- [00:04:00.090]Oshkosh. And Buckley and
- [00:04:02.330]Virginia
- [00:04:02.700]Smith felt like with having a
- [00:04:04.640]plaza, we could have two great
- [00:04:06.700]murals with lots of dedication
- [00:04:08.840]to what Chapel really is all
- [00:04:11.370]about. The top mural, we have
- [00:04:14.260]the Cabela's.
- [00:04:15.740]For most of you that may know,
- [00:04:18.620]Cabela's was originated in
- [00:04:21.280]Chapel, in a basement. They
- [00:04:24.260]tied
- [00:04:24.640]lures and made it into a chapel.
- [00:04:24.920]And then the top mural, we have
- [00:04:25.180]the Cabela's, which is a
- [00:04:25.360]beautiful chapel. It was built
- [00:04:26.460]in the 18th century. It was
- [00:04:26.790]built in the 18th century, and
- [00:04:27.060]it's
- [00:04:27.140]built in the 18th century, and
- [00:04:27.170]it was built in the 18th
- [00:04:27.190]century, and it was built in
- [00:04:27.210]the 18th century.
- [00:04:27.360]And then we have Aaron Pyle in
- [00:04:28.560]that picture. We are the Pony
- [00:04:30.780]Express, along the Pony Express.
- [00:04:33.740]Virginia Smith is in the black
- [00:04:35.840]and white in the middle. And
- [00:04:37.800]then Mr. and Mrs. Chapel
- [00:04:39.560]and the Lincoln Highway, which
- [00:04:41.500]Chapel goes through. And then
- [00:04:43.490]also on the bottom mural,
- [00:04:45.520]we have our Chapel Buffalo
- [00:04:47.430]mascot. Prior to Creek Valley,
- [00:04:49.700]we were the Chapel Buffalo.
- [00:04:51.800]And then Volleyball, we have
- [00:04:51.800]the Chapel Buffalo mascot. And
- [00:04:51.800]then we have the Chapel Buffalo
- [00:04:51.800]mascot.
- [00:04:51.840]And then Volleyball, we have
- [00:04:52.920]the Chapel Buffalo mascot. And
- [00:04:54.160]then Volleyball, we have the
- [00:04:55.040]Chapel Buffalo mascot.
- [00:04:55.360]We had Steph, or I'm having a
- [00:04:57.820]brain fart, Behrens. I can't
- [00:04:59.990]think of her first. Kim Behrens
- [00:05:02.740]was a Husker volleyball player,
- [00:05:05.350]and she came from Chapel. Just
- [00:05:07.860]the old depot,
- [00:05:09.100]Grain Bend. We were known as
- [00:05:12.410]the Wheat King City, or not
- [00:05:15.740]really city, but you know.
- [00:05:18.920]And then that's Thomas Buckley
- [00:05:20.740]in the black and white. So
- [00:05:22.150]these murals were paid for by,
- [00:05:25.240]Virginia Smith and Buckley,
- [00:05:27.360]roughly around 20,000 for both
- [00:05:29.580]of them.
- [00:05:30.220]One thing you can do for your
- [00:05:35.580]community, we had received bump
- [00:05:40.370]outs. I think a lot of the
- [00:05:42.940]smaller
- [00:05:43.200]towns are having those
- [00:05:45.100]implemented in on their main
- [00:05:47.730]streets through their cities.
- [00:05:50.320]And we decided
- [00:05:51.620]to plant plants in them. And so
- [00:05:54.520]we decided to plant plants in
- [00:05:54.530]them. And so we decided to
- [00:05:54.850]plant plants
- [00:05:55.100]in them. And so we decided to
- [00:05:55.100]plant plants in them. And so we
- [00:05:55.100]decided to plant plants in them.
- [00:05:55.120]And so
- [00:05:55.120]we decided to plant plants in
- [00:05:55.360]them. And so we decided to
- [00:05:55.610]plant plants in them. And so we
- [00:05:55.990]received
- [00:05:56.020]the grant through the Nebraska
- [00:05:58.970]Arbor Day Foundation. And they
- [00:06:03.020]also, we've received several
- [00:06:05.220]grants through them for trees
- [00:06:07.320]as well. So if your community
- [00:06:09.480]is looking for just greenery in
- [00:06:12.300]general,
- [00:06:12.720]this is a great website to
- [00:06:14.930]reach out to. Okay. Another
- [00:06:21.870]project I had, I think,
- [00:06:25.000]this was in 2024. Or no, sorry.
- [00:06:29.310]I think I got it in 21. I'm
- [00:06:32.270]sorry. And I worked with this
- [00:06:35.210]company.
- [00:06:36.460]We created the, what would be
- [00:06:39.720]the new park. And I had
- [00:06:42.320]volunteers actually help on
- [00:06:45.480]this
- [00:06:46.080]to cut back on costs. This new
- [00:06:48.680]playground was roughly, after
- [00:06:51.040]we received the game time grant,
- [00:06:54.140]it was,
- [00:06:54.880]which they matched 100%. It was
- [00:06:58.360]$60,000 on our behalf. So
- [00:07:00.520]grants I received for this are
- [00:07:03.280]the
- [00:07:03.420]Ethel Abbott Foundation, Buckley
- [00:07:05.840]Trust, Virginia's Trust, the
- [00:07:09.010]Walmart grant, and then also
- [00:07:11.430]the game
- [00:07:11.920]time grant. Okay. I included
- [00:07:15.950]the Rotary Club on that second
- [00:07:19.730]slide. I am part of the club.
- [00:07:23.460]And one thing
- [00:07:24.760]that Rotary does in general is
- [00:07:27.690]donate back to your community.
- [00:07:29.610]So if you have a Rotary Club
- [00:07:31.080]in your community, I would
- [00:07:32.710]reach out to them and just let
- [00:07:34.210]them know, you know, if you
- [00:07:35.730]have extra
- [00:07:36.240]funds, we have these smaller
- [00:07:38.370]projects that would be great
- [00:07:40.310]for grants through them. We
- [00:07:42.880]received two
- [00:07:43.900]new water fountains last year
- [00:07:45.950]for our swimming pool park. And
- [00:07:48.150]then this year, I'll talk about
- [00:07:50.340]it a little bit more later, but
- [00:07:52.080]they are also donating to our
- [00:07:53.700]new splash. So if you have any
- [00:07:54.640]water fountains that you would
- [00:07:56.600]like to donate, you can donate
- [00:07:58.580]to our splash pad. So Chapel
- [00:08:00.490]Rotary
- [00:08:01.060]Club or Rotary Club in general
- [00:08:02.870]is a great place to reach out
- [00:08:04.430]to, to see if they would
- [00:08:05.940]sponsor smaller
- [00:08:06.040]projects.
- [00:08:09.040]Here is our Chapel Lake. And I
- [00:08:12.800]received a grant for $3,000 for
- [00:08:17.690]two new docks to be built at
- [00:08:20.020]our Chapel
- [00:08:20.560]Lake. You can see on the bottom,
- [00:08:24.520]those are our prior
- [00:08:24.520]docks, and they were just in
- [00:08:26.120]horrible shape. Honestly, I was
- [00:08:28.130]kind of scared to even go out
- [00:08:29.640]on them. And we were able to
- [00:08:31.450]receive the $3,000. And with
- [00:08:34.110]that, we actually built these
- [00:08:36.210]docks
- [00:08:36.580]ourselves. Myself and the city
- [00:08:39.470]guys were able to, during the
- [00:08:41.950]winter months, sit down and
- [00:08:44.430]build these
- [00:08:45.580]docks. And we received material.
- [00:08:48.980]Some was donated, some was
- [00:08:51.410]bought through repurposed
- [00:08:53.890]materials.
- [00:08:54.400]It's out of Denver, and it's
- [00:08:56.530]actually a great place to go
- [00:08:58.770]through if you want cheaper
- [00:09:01.360]materials
- [00:09:01.840]that are still in great shape
- [00:09:03.220]for projects like these. So
- [00:09:05.010]these are just a couple of docks
- [00:09:07.790]that
- [00:09:08.020]I thought I would put in there
- [00:09:09.650]as well. The lighting on these
- [00:09:12.250]docks, I received a grant
- [00:09:15.020]through AARP, which I believe
- [00:09:16.780]is on the next slide. So AARP
- [00:09:20.650]has two or three
- [00:09:24.280]different grants that are
- [00:09:26.480]available. Usually, it's for
- [00:09:28.820]projects that help more so age
- [00:09:32.450]50 plus.
- [00:09:34.080]And our lake is really utilized
- [00:09:36.800]by our older population. It
- [00:09:39.410]just gives them something to do.
- [00:09:42.520]So with that, I kind of ran
- [00:09:44.900]with that in the grant,
- [00:09:47.140]really emphasizing that our
- [00:09:49.510]older population does use this
- [00:09:52.050]lake often. And
- [00:09:54.160]I was able to receive $10,000.
- [00:09:56.620]We updated the bathrooms. The
- [00:10:01.600]poles in the middle top were
- [00:10:03.220]all
- [00:10:03.340]wooden white poles broken. So
- [00:10:05.640]the parking lot got updated. We
- [00:10:08.410]received several new picnic
- [00:10:10.800]tables for
- [00:10:11.800]under the covers. And then also
- [00:10:14.320]the lighting in the upper right.
- [00:10:16.750]I was able to get lighting for
- [00:10:18.940]all the docks as well as the
- [00:10:20.360]two entrances. Yeah.
- [00:10:22.480]Are those solar lights?
- [00:10:24.040]Yes. Yep. They're all solar. So
- [00:10:27.470]we didn't have to wire in
- [00:10:29.260]anything. And they have been
- [00:10:32.480]amazing.
- [00:10:33.340]I'm going to follow up with you
- [00:10:35.390]about that because I want some
- [00:10:37.450]for Kimball.
- [00:10:38.620]Okay. Yeah. And one thing I
- [00:10:41.300]should mention in all this is
- [00:10:43.990]everything you see that we
- [00:10:46.160]ordered. I do all the ordering.
- [00:10:49.650]I do all the purchasing. I
- [00:10:52.320]usually do help,
- [00:10:54.000]put all the things together. So
- [00:10:55.980]that's one thing I think in a
- [00:10:57.420]smaller community,
- [00:10:58.760]I often strive to say like,
- [00:11:01.250]even though it's not your job,
- [00:11:04.000]just help out when you can. So
- [00:11:07.320]all the bump outs that we
- [00:11:09.260]planted those plants in, I do
- [00:11:11.660]all the upkeep with that. I
- [00:11:14.040]pull the weeds.
- [00:11:14.940]I spray them. If they need
- [00:11:17.770]watered, I water them as well
- [00:11:20.250]as the plaza. So that's just,
- [00:11:23.880]I don't know, something to keep
- [00:11:25.760]in mind. I know it's an extra
- [00:11:27.860]job, but it also helps your
- [00:11:29.540]community
- [00:11:29.900]out. So, okay. So we receive
- [00:11:34.390]every year, our school about
- [00:11:37.920]four years ago started doing a
- [00:11:40.740]fishing grant program. And our
- [00:11:43.680]FFA building is kind of like a
- [00:11:46.200]shop building. And we are able
- [00:11:49.000]to put a stock tank in there
- [00:11:50.570]every year and raise fish for
- [00:11:51.770]our children. And so we're able
- [00:11:53.440]to put a
- [00:11:53.760]stock tank in there every year.
- [00:11:54.060]So we're able to put a stock
- [00:11:54.260]tank in there every year. And
- [00:11:54.520]so we're
- [00:11:54.660]able to put a stock tank in
- [00:11:54.660]there every year. And so we're
- [00:11:54.660]able to put a stock tank in
- [00:11:54.670]there every
- [00:11:54.760]year. And so we're able to put
- [00:11:54.760]a stock tank in there every
- [00:11:54.760]year. And so we're able to put
- [00:11:54.760]a
- [00:11:54.840]stock tank in there every year.
- [00:11:54.840]And so we're able to put a
- [00:11:54.840]stock tank in there every year.
- [00:11:54.840]And so
- [00:11:54.840]we're able to put a stock tank
- [00:11:55.560]in there every year. And so
- [00:11:56.350]they normally start about late
- [00:11:57.220]fall.
- [00:11:57.480]And then they, this is actually
- [00:11:59.720]them releasing it. They release
- [00:12:02.170]it about mid spring, kind of
- [00:12:04.940]after
- [00:12:05.200]the freeze. So that's just, if
- [00:12:07.990]you guys have lakes in your
- [00:12:09.700]area, Nebraska Game and Parks
- [00:12:12.140]has
- [00:12:12.860]several grants for things like
- [00:12:15.030]this. And once they know you're
- [00:12:17.350]restocking, they oftentimes
- [00:12:19.620]will also
- [00:12:21.040]restock for free for you. So
- [00:12:23.720]just kind of a funky grant that
- [00:12:26.450]I threw in there,
- [00:12:28.180]but something that a lot of
- [00:12:29.440]communities, you know, you, you
- [00:12:31.270]need it and you don't think
- [00:12:32.320]about it. So
- [00:12:33.240]I put this one in there because
- [00:12:37.700]we had a old nursing home that
- [00:12:41.940]got bought
- [00:12:43.620]by a gentleman. And in that
- [00:12:45.680]nursing home, we had a
- [00:12:47.420]preschool at the time, daycare,
- [00:12:50.920]preschool daycare. And we had
- [00:12:53.460]installed this new equipment in
- [00:12:56.240]there shortly before it closed.
- [00:12:58.580]And I reached out to this
- [00:13:01.260]gentleman and asked him just if
- [00:13:04.660]he would be willing to donate
- [00:13:07.560]this to
- [00:13:08.540]our community. And he said, yes.
- [00:13:11.430]And so we were able to move it
- [00:13:13.500]from the nursing home
- [00:13:15.280]to our baseball field. I, you
- [00:13:19.020]can see in the lower,
- [00:13:20.800]left corner, it's me, my
- [00:13:23.630]husband, and a couple of our
- [00:13:25.790]friends. I just get to
- [00:13:27.520]volunteer
- [00:13:28.140]them, voluntold, volunteer for
- [00:13:31.240]different projects in our
- [00:13:33.640]community. But they're pretty
- [00:13:36.220]awesome. And
- [00:13:36.940]you can clearly see the
- [00:13:38.730]difference it made. And we,
- [00:13:41.160]baseball's huge here and we
- [00:13:43.370]have little kids
- [00:13:45.060]all day, you know, watching
- [00:13:46.880]their siblings. So it's a great
- [00:13:49.870]fenced-in area. And we have a
- [00:13:50.680]lot of
- [00:13:50.680]kids all day. So it's a great fenced-in
- [00:13:52.350]area that we actually received
- [00:13:53.520]for free. So I just thought I
- [00:13:55.780]would include that. If you see
- [00:13:57.940]something in your community
- [00:13:59.640]that maybe looks like you could
- [00:14:01.400]utilize
- [00:14:01.900]it somewhere else, I would
- [00:14:03.570]always ask. So this was our,
- [00:14:07.590]our library was leaking water.
- [00:14:12.950]Prior,
- [00:14:13.360]you can see in the left picture,
- [00:14:15.520]we didn't have concrete that
- [00:14:17.170]was all filled in with rock.
- [00:14:19.070]And so
- [00:14:20.560]Virginia Smith is very generous
- [00:14:22.580]when it comes to libraries and
- [00:14:24.510]schools. Oftentimes if you're
- [00:14:27.220]around
- [00:14:27.760]our community of Dual County,
- [00:14:29.750]Buckley and Virginia also have
- [00:14:31.750]gave to several communities
- [00:14:33.460]around us.
- [00:14:34.180]So, but we did get a $3,700
- [00:14:37.710]grant. We poured in new
- [00:14:40.130]concrete and also, you can't
- [00:14:43.090]see it,
- [00:14:43.420]but a retaining wall that was
- [00:14:45.650]on the side because our, our
- [00:14:47.760]grass slope was kind of
- [00:14:49.450]starting to
- [00:14:50.440]collapse. So I don't know how
- [00:14:54.170]many communities have Adam's
- [00:14:58.370]Bank or a bank in general in
- [00:15:00.550]their
- [00:15:00.640]community, but these are great
- [00:15:02.370]places to reach out to that you
- [00:15:03.980]often don't think about. Adam's
- [00:15:07.300]Bank is such a huge giver. We
- [00:15:10.080]have received the, in the upper
- [00:15:13.680]left corner, two tables for our
- [00:15:17.140]baseball field. And then we,
- [00:15:19.620]they paid
- [00:15:20.320]for the dock in the upper right
- [00:15:23.060]that we did build it, but they
- [00:15:25.000]gave us I believe it was
- [00:15:26.800]2,500 for the materials. And
- [00:15:30.140]then just recently, they also
- [00:15:32.690]donated 5,000 for our splash
- [00:15:35.590]pad project.
- [00:15:36.400]And me and two other moms, you
- [00:15:40.870]can see that also donated 1,500
- [00:15:43.440]on the bottom for jerseys.
- [00:15:45.160]We came up with the Creek
- [00:15:47.170]Valley youth activities. And
- [00:15:50.200]we did a great job. And our
- [00:15:52.190]goal was to have no kid have to
- [00:15:53.430]pay for any sports, grade six
- [00:15:57.280]and under.
- [00:15:57.880]And we were able to form a
- [00:16:01.370]group that we now have, you
- [00:16:05.940]know, safe funding for it. But
- [00:16:10.320]through that,
- [00:16:10.840]Adam's Bank donated 1,500 for
- [00:16:13.230]all new jerseys for volleyball
- [00:16:15.060]and basketball, sixth grade and
- [00:16:17.030]under.
- [00:16:17.680]Um, and I will just tell you,
- [00:16:19.710]it really does help when you
- [00:16:21.310]have something like that in
- [00:16:23.160]your community that is free to
- [00:16:24.620]youth because in chapel, just
- [00:16:26.560]in our soccer program, we have
- [00:16:28.410]over 80 kids because it's free.
- [00:16:30.900]So that's just kind of
- [00:16:32.440]something to think about. Um,
- [00:16:34.840]all right, next.
- [00:16:39.100]Lots of times I, I don't get
- [00:16:41.080]paid for this, but I do, um,
- [00:16:43.230]help our fire department
- [00:16:45.140]tremendously in any way I can.
- [00:16:47.580]Um, there's such a huge ass, um,
- [00:16:50.070]ass, uh, asset to our community.
- [00:16:54.260]And, um, I received a union
- [00:16:56.630]Pacific railroad grant forum
- [00:16:59.120]for 10,000. Um, I, I had
- [00:17:02.990]several other grants that I've
- [00:17:04.600]received for them, which I
- [00:17:06.570]forgot.
- [00:17:07.440]I didn't write down where I
- [00:17:09.010]received it.
- [00:17:09.100]I know they were through, um, a
- [00:17:12.380]list that I will provide for
- [00:17:14.430]you guys later. Uh, also we
- [00:17:16.600]just recently received 30,000,
- [00:17:20.280]um, from Buckley for a new, uh,
- [00:17:22.670]meeting room, um, updates.
- [00:17:25.280]It's the original, which I'm
- [00:17:27.160]not sure when it was built. Um,
- [00:17:29.310]but we're going to do kitchen
- [00:17:31.040]bathroom and fire hall in there.
- [00:17:33.220]So, um, those are just some,
- [00:17:34.960]the union Pacific railroad, if
- [00:17:36.850]it goes through your community.
- [00:17:39.100]I would definitely, um, apply
- [00:17:41.760]for that. They're actually
- [00:17:43.750]really good at giving. So, um,
- [00:17:45.660]that's just kind of a non-work,
- [00:17:48.530]but community-based grant that
- [00:17:51.350]we did.
- [00:17:52.300]Do you have a specific contact
- [00:17:53.970]at UP, Shauna, or you just do
- [00:17:55.620]the online application?
- [00:17:57.280]Yeah, I just do the online
- [00:17:58.480]application. Um, lots of times
- [00:18:00.620]I kind of will mention, uh,
- [00:18:02.910]community names that work for
- [00:18:04.750]the railroad within our
- [00:18:06.490]community.
- [00:18:07.640]Um,
- [00:18:09.100]so that they can kind of see,
- [00:18:11.680]you know, that we do have a
- [00:18:13.040]large amount of UP employees in
- [00:18:15.280]our community. Um, I always
- [00:18:17.430]feel like that kind of helps
- [00:18:18.980]out.
- [00:18:19.440]Thank you.
- [00:18:21.300]Yeah.
- [00:18:21.800]Um, Black Hills grant, uh, just
- [00:18:25.360]Black Hills in general offers a
- [00:18:27.340]grant. Um, and through them, we
- [00:18:29.820]have received, uh, several
- [00:18:31.880]grants, but this was a bigger
- [00:18:33.950]one for $10,000.
- [00:18:36.320]And with that, I was able to go
- [00:18:38.380]through.
- [00:18:39.100]And with that, I was able to go
- [00:18:40.940]through, um, global industrial
- [00:18:43.130]and buy 20 new picnic tables,
- [00:18:45.290]um, for under the awnings at
- [00:18:47.290]our, uh, parks. So, um, Black
- [00:18:50.170]Hills is also a great, uh,
- [00:18:53.030]grant that you can apply for.
- [00:18:56.180]Um, and most, I would say most
- [00:18:58.510]of us in the western region
- [00:19:00.480]have Black Hills within our
- [00:19:02.370]community. So.
- [00:19:03.940]Okay.
- [00:19:04.060]Okay. Small baseball field
- [00:19:07.310]lighting.
- [00:19:09.100]Um, so we utilize, like I said
- [00:19:11.820]before, our baseball fields, um,
- [00:19:14.440]honestly throughout the year,
- [00:19:16.560]because as you can see in the
- [00:19:18.610]bottom, that is all football,
- [00:19:20.220]um, equipment. And so they also
- [00:19:22.740]use it at night, um, which
- [00:19:24.660]these lights were perfect for
- [00:19:26.860]as well.
- [00:19:27.800]Um, so we utilize, like I said
- [00:19:27.810]before, our baseball fields, um,
- [00:19:27.840]and most of us in the western
- [00:19:27.860]region have Black Hills within
- [00:19:27.890]our community. So, um, and most
- [00:19:27.900]of us in the western region
- [00:19:27.920]have Black Hills within our
- [00:19:27.950]community. And so they also use
- [00:19:27.960]it at night, um, which these
- [00:19:27.990]lights were perfect for as well.
- [00:19:28.380]The grants that I received for
- [00:19:30.130]this were Oregon Trail
- [00:19:31.430]Community Foundation, um, which
- [00:19:33.380]is a Western Nebraska grant. So,
- [00:19:35.580]um, if you haven't heard of it,
- [00:19:37.300]you can always Google these
- [00:19:38.860]grants too, and they usually
- [00:19:40.550]pop right up. Um, the Buckley
- [00:19:43.050]Trust, I did do, we got a big
- [00:19:45.050]grant. Um, majority of this was
- [00:19:47.620]paid through the Major League
- [00:19:49.770]Baseball, um, program for the
- [00:19:52.140]youth development.
- [00:19:53.800]Um, and then an anonymous grant,
- [00:19:56.410]um, which this is the same
- [00:19:58.460]anonymous grant I'll mention a
- [00:20:00.730]couple times. Um, and it is
- [00:20:03.610]through, it's a foundation
- [00:20:05.180]through, uh, Grand Island, and
- [00:20:07.750]they donated over 20,000 for
- [00:20:10.900]this project as well.
- [00:20:12.780]So, um, in the, uh, little
- [00:20:15.670]booklet I have that I can email
- [00:20:18.570]out later, it, um, has this
- [00:20:21.860]grant in it.
- [00:20:22.980]They just, for some reason,
- [00:20:24.410]like to remain anonymous every
- [00:20:25.930]time they, um, give. So, our
- [00:20:27.990]pool shade structure, um, our
- [00:20:31.460]pool is really old here in
- [00:20:34.130]Chapel. It's the original pool.
- [00:20:36.580]We still have the extra high
- [00:20:38.330]high dive, the metal slides.
- [00:20:40.400]Um, so anytime I make a
- [00:20:42.120]modification to, um, or want to
- [00:20:44.650]add something to our pool, it
- [00:20:46.910]has to come from the outside
- [00:20:49.350]over. So that's why our shade
- [00:20:50.930]structure is going over the
- [00:20:52.390]fence.
- [00:20:52.980]Um, but Ethel Abbott paid for a
- [00:20:56.100]majority of this, um, grant.
- [00:20:59.610]Buckley also, um, helped out,
- [00:21:01.470]um, with the remaining. And the
- [00:21:03.880]Ethel Abbott Foundation, um, is
- [00:21:06.990]actually a, um, grant that, uh,
- [00:21:10.320]is, it states it's for Lincoln,
- [00:21:13.710]Omaha, and Western Nebraska.
- [00:21:16.740]And they, yeah, so it's kind of
- [00:21:19.500]a funky, a funky grant, but
- [00:21:21.950]yeah.
- [00:21:22.980]Um, Ethel was actually, I
- [00:21:25.190]believe she was from Arthur. So,
- [00:21:28.360]um, I could be wrong on that,
- [00:21:30.540]but, uh, so a lot of Western
- [00:21:32.800]Nebraska, um, projects you
- [00:21:35.170]could apply for through the Ethel
- [00:21:37.800]Abbott Foundation.
- [00:21:39.760]Um, this was our city park
- [00:21:43.330]ground cover project. Um, I, in
- [00:21:47.580]most of these projects, this is
- [00:21:49.860]kind of a small town thing, but
- [00:21:52.120]I don't have it.
- [00:21:52.980]Um, I don't have anybody
- [00:21:54.240]guiding me or telling me what
- [00:21:55.740]the next project should be. I
- [00:21:57.270]kind of just look at our
- [00:21:58.730]community and, um, you know,
- [00:22:00.910]think what needs updated or
- [00:22:02.600]what can we add.
- [00:22:03.860]Um, I, I'm a city employee, but
- [00:22:07.060]there's, I'm really my own
- [00:22:09.010]person. Um, I, I really don't
- [00:22:11.840]have like a boss per se. So, um,
- [00:22:14.940]this was just a project I
- [00:22:16.200]thought really needed updated.
- [00:22:18.260]Um, I don't have anybody
- [00:22:19.600]guiding me or telling me what
- [00:22:20.740]the next project should be. I
- [00:22:22.020]kind of just look at our
- [00:22:22.020]community and, um, you know,
- [00:22:22.020]think what needs updated or
- [00:22:22.020]what can we add.
- [00:22:22.020]Um, I, I'm a city employee, but
- [00:22:22.020]there's, I'm really my own
- [00:22:22.020]person. Um, I, I really don't
- [00:22:22.040]have like a boss per se. So, um,
- [00:22:22.040]this was just a project I
- [00:22:22.040]thought really needed updated.
- [00:22:22.040]The middle top picture was, um,
- [00:22:22.040]the original.
- [00:22:22.220]Um, I, I really don't have
- [00:22:26.170]anybody guiding me or telling
- [00:22:30.480]me what needs updated. So, um,
- [00:22:35.470]this was just a project I
- [00:22:39.040]thought really needed updated.
- [00:22:43.940]The middle top picture was, um,
- [00:22:48.850]the original.
- [00:22:51.460]Um, I, I really don't have
- [00:22:56.450]anybody guiding me or telling
- [00:23:02.090]me what needs updated. The
- [00:23:07.360]middle top picture was, um, the
- [00:23:13.220]original.
- [00:23:15.780]And, um, for this, the original
- [00:23:18.240]cost was $10,000.
- [00:23:20.700]Um, I, I really don't have
- [00:23:20.700]anybody guiding me or telling
- [00:23:20.700]me what needs updated. The
- [00:23:20.700]middle top picture was, um, the
- [00:23:20.700]original.
- [00:23:20.780]And, um, for this, the original
- [00:23:21.260]cost was $10,500.
- [00:23:21.820]Um, I, I really don't have
- [00:23:21.830]anybody guiding me or telling
- [00:23:21.850]me what needs updated. The
- [00:23:21.860]middle top picture was, um, the
- [00:23:21.870]original.
- [00:23:21.980]And, um, for this, the original
- [00:23:21.980]cost was $10,500.
- [00:23:22.020]Um, I, I really don't have
- [00:23:22.060]anybody guiding me or telling
- [00:23:22.120]me what needs updated. The
- [00:23:22.260]middle top picture was, um, the
- [00:23:22.280]original.
- [00:23:22.340]We received grants through the
- [00:23:24.760]Albertson Company and Safeway
- [00:23:27.180]Foundation.
- [00:23:28.440]Um, they, I, I didn't know
- [00:23:30.860]about this foundation until I,
- [00:23:33.620]um, kind of did some research
- [00:23:36.160]and they gave a great amount
- [00:23:38.530]for this, um, Buckley Trust,
- [00:23:41.330]Virginia.
- [00:23:42.540]Um, and then ACE, if any of you
- [00:23:44.770]guys have ACE in your community,
- [00:23:47.110]they always give back, um, a
- [00:23:49.370]percentage.
- [00:23:50.500]Of course, bigger cities, you
- [00:23:52.430]know, get a larger percentage,
- [00:23:54.410]but, um, we on an average get
- [00:23:56.170]around like, I think 7,000 back
- [00:23:58.720]a year.
- [00:23:59.440]And we're able to, um, put that
- [00:24:02.230]towards a, uh, project in our
- [00:24:04.800]community.
- [00:24:06.140]Um, so if, if you talk to your
- [00:24:08.870]commissioners or your city
- [00:24:10.470]council, um, they do have this
- [00:24:12.910]ACE funding, uh, within your
- [00:24:15.460]community.
- [00:24:16.540]So that was kind of just an
- [00:24:18.510]upgrade.
- [00:24:20.300]Um, I applied for a grant
- [00:24:22.840]through, um, American Rescue
- [00:24:26.120]Plan and Act.
- [00:24:27.780]Um, this was a couple years
- [00:24:29.650]back.
- [00:24:30.260]I don't know if this grant's
- [00:24:31.210]still available.
- [00:24:31.960]However, I do know, um, that
- [00:24:34.110]there is other, uh, you know,
- [00:24:36.210]medical emergency grants out
- [00:24:38.240]there.
- [00:24:39.000]Um, but this one was, I
- [00:24:40.940]received 75,000 to go towards a
- [00:24:44.240]new ambulance and then also, um,
- [00:24:47.290]37,000, uh, for a life.
- [00:24:50.200]Pack monitor for our current
- [00:24:52.450]ambulance.
- [00:24:53.480]So, um, there are grants out
- [00:24:55.700]there for these sort of things.
- [00:24:58.340]Uh, you just kind of have to do
- [00:25:00.090]some digging, but a lot of
- [00:25:01.730]times on, you know, the
- [00:25:03.100]Nebraska, um, funding page, it
- [00:25:07.230]will show you grants similar to
- [00:25:08.980]these.
- [00:25:09.580]So, and this one actually wasn't
- [00:25:11.260]hard at all to fill out.
- [00:25:12.540]I know some of those federal
- [00:25:14.040]ones are like, ugh, you don't
- [00:25:15.900]even want to start it.
- [00:25:17.140]But, um, this one was pretty
- [00:25:19.060]easy.
- [00:25:19.640]And.
- [00:25:20.000]So, um, we're, we're a rural
- [00:25:22.720]community that's, um, honestly
- [00:25:26.280]pretty lucky to have their EMS,
- [00:25:30.650]um, within their city still.
- [00:25:34.860]So.
- [00:25:35.200]We might have to have a later
- [00:25:36.680]conversation about that because
- [00:25:38.490]I know many cities have been
- [00:25:40.020]struggling with EMS lately.
- [00:25:41.760]Yeah.
- [00:25:42.440]Yep.
- [00:25:43.060]It's definitely a struggle.
- [00:25:44.540]So I threw this in here because,
- [00:25:46.840]um, you don't have to go to a
- [00:25:48.780]hospital.
- [00:25:49.800]Um, you don't always think
- [00:25:51.240]about it, but you could always
- [00:25:52.740]do something fun for your
- [00:25:54.210]community and reach out to just
- [00:25:55.820]people local.
- [00:25:56.580]Um, our Creek Valley Booster
- [00:25:58.700]Club donated, uh, this blow up
- [00:26:01.090]screen, um, for instance, they
- [00:26:03.460]bought it for us and, um, let
- [00:26:05.610]chamber use it for movies in
- [00:26:07.520]the park night.
- [00:26:08.980]So, um, this isn't really a
- [00:26:10.800]grant per se, but just an idea
- [00:26:12.710]that you could include in your
- [00:26:14.630]community for something fun.
- [00:26:16.860]And, um, lots of times booster.
- [00:26:19.600]Clubs will support things like
- [00:26:20.900]this because it involves the
- [00:26:22.140]children.
- [00:26:22.700]Our points West bank here in
- [00:26:26.770]chapel.
- [00:26:28.380]Um, I filled out a grant, uh,
- [00:26:30.770]through them and they, this
- [00:26:32.660]year donated $4,000 for new
- [00:26:35.420]uniforms, um, for all of our
- [00:26:37.570]baseball teams.
- [00:26:39.120]And I know in lots of
- [00:26:40.670]communities, points West is
- [00:26:42.640]very similar to Adams, um,
- [00:26:44.690]where they do give a lot.
- [00:26:46.720]Um, this was the first grant I've
- [00:26:48.560]ever.
- [00:26:49.400]Received through points West
- [00:26:51.460]bank here in chapel.
- [00:26:52.960]Um, but I do know.
- [00:26:54.500]In, in other communities, they
- [00:26:56.870]give a lot.
- [00:26:57.660]So.
- [00:26:58.020]We received, I just, um,
- [00:27:01.600]created this disc golf course
- [00:27:04.550]this spring.
- [00:27:06.360]We received a $5,000 grant from
- [00:27:09.090]an anonymous donor.
- [00:27:10.660]Um, and most of the time I say
- [00:27:12.440]anonymous, it's the same grant
- [00:27:14.450]donor.
- [00:27:15.120]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:17.410]a nine hole disc golf.
- [00:27:19.320]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:19.320]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:19.320]this spring.
- [00:27:19.320]Um, and most of the time I say
- [00:27:19.320]anonymous, it's the same grant
- [00:27:19.320]donor.
- [00:27:19.380]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:19.380]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:19.380]this spring.
- [00:27:19.380]Um, and most of the time I say
- [00:27:19.380]anonymous, it's the same grant
- [00:27:19.380]donor.
- [00:27:19.380]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:19.380]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:19.380]this spring.
- [00:27:19.380]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:31.630]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:42.900]this spring.
- [00:27:49.360]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.360]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.360]this spring.
- [00:27:49.420]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.420]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.420]this spring.
- [00:27:49.460]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.460]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.460]this spring.
- [00:27:49.460]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.460]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.460]this spring.
- [00:27:49.480]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.480]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.480]this spring.
- [00:27:49.500]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.500]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.500]this spring.
- [00:27:49.520]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.520]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.520]this spring.
- [00:27:49.540]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.540]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.540]this spring.
- [00:27:49.580]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.580]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.580]this spring.
- [00:27:49.640]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.640]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.640]this spring.
- [00:27:49.660]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:27:49.660]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:27:49.660]this spring.
- [00:27:49.720]nine hole disc golf course this
- [00:27:49.720]spring.
- [00:28:05.740]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:28:05.860]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:28:05.970]this spring.
- [00:28:06.140]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:28:06.140]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:28:06.140]this spring.
- [00:28:06.200]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:28:06.200]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:28:06.200]this spring.
- [00:28:06.280]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:28:06.280]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:28:06.280]this spring.
- [00:28:06.380]Um, and we were able to create
- [00:28:06.380]a nine hole disc golf course
- [00:28:06.380]this spring.
- [00:28:06.440]So we were able to put four benches
- [00:28:08.740]out, um, at the disc golf
- [00:28:10.410]course as well.
- [00:28:11.520]So this is my newest project
- [00:28:15.020]that is currently underway.
- [00:28:18.500]Um, it looks right now like the
- [00:28:20.840]bottom right.
- [00:28:22.160]I started working on this about
- [00:28:24.190]a year and a half ago.
- [00:28:25.640]And, um, some of the grants I
- [00:28:27.800]received were Thomas Buckley in
- [00:28:30.170]Virginia.
- [00:28:31.240]Um, I did receive Black Hills
- [00:28:33.390]Grant, Dual County Tourism.
- [00:28:35.720]Um, the Anonymous Grant again,
- [00:28:38.660]um, Ace Energy, Adams Bank and
- [00:28:41.260]Trust, um,
- [00:28:42.800]U.S. Adventure Grant, Chapel
- [00:28:45.110]Rotary Club, um, our fire
- [00:28:46.870]department donated.
- [00:28:48.520]And then, um, we used, uh,
- [00:28:51.020]funds from the chapel, uh, the
- [00:28:53.730]Keno funds.
- [00:28:55.040]And then also, um, Chapel
- [00:28:57.720]Community Fund was huge on this.
- [00:29:01.180]Um, our community fund had kind
- [00:29:03.550]of died down really for the
- [00:29:05.580]last,
- [00:29:05.700]I don't know, since before I
- [00:29:08.180]was here.
- [00:29:09.000]And just recently, um, we kind
- [00:29:11.170]of wanted to get it going again.
- [00:29:13.240]And we were able to raise, um,
- [00:29:15.910]over 41,000 with the chapel
- [00:29:17.920]community fund for this splash
- [00:29:19.760]pad.
- [00:29:20.080]The total project cost was, um,
- [00:29:24.430]with, I'm also including a
- [00:29:26.700]shade structure in this project,
- [00:29:28.480]but it was a right around 200,000
- [00:29:32.330]and, um, chapel itself donated
- [00:29:35.100]right around
- [00:29:35.680]30,000 with the Keno funds and
- [00:29:38.050]everything else was able to be,
- [00:29:40.880]um, totally granted.
- [00:29:42.240]So I'm really hoping we can
- [00:29:44.660]have this open in, um, by Labor
- [00:29:47.520]Day.
- [00:29:48.260]I'm maybe have high hopes, but,
- [00:29:52.500]uh, really all we have left on
- [00:29:54.020]this is pouring the concrete
- [00:29:55.500]and then putting the, all the,
- [00:29:57.840]um, structures up top in the
- [00:29:59.990]top picture on, um, the
- [00:30:02.130]different
- [00:30:02.760]spouts that are, you can't
- [00:30:04.110]really see them in the bottom
- [00:30:05.110]picture.
- [00:30:05.660]But we have a bunch of
- [00:30:07.390]different, um, uh, like sprinkler
- [00:30:09.800]spouts on there that they will
- [00:30:11.760]go on top of.
- [00:30:12.560]So, um, if you guys are ever in
- [00:30:14.800]chapel, uh, swing down and
- [00:30:17.040]check out our new splash pad.
- [00:30:19.380]I will hopefully be able to
- [00:30:20.810]update you guys at the next
- [00:30:22.240]meeting that it's done.
- [00:30:23.740]So, um, this is just kind of
- [00:30:25.850]something fun.
- [00:30:27.220]I felt like, uh, would be great
- [00:30:29.560]for our kids.
- [00:30:30.780]Our pool kind of closes early
- [00:30:33.090]because of, uh, children and,
- [00:30:35.640]um, college kids going back to
- [00:30:37.520]school and there are lifeguards.
- [00:30:39.800]So I thought this would be
- [00:30:41.280]great for the remainder of the
- [00:30:43.130]summer months.
- [00:30:44.180]Um, and it doesn't cost
- [00:30:46.080]anything to operate as far as,
- [00:30:48.660]you know, uh, having a lifeguard
- [00:30:51.220]or somebody there 24 seven.
- [00:30:52.920]So, um, yeah.
- [00:30:56.240]Okay.
- [00:30:59.880]So one of our projects I am
- [00:31:01.610]starting in September is I've
- [00:31:03.680]been working, um, a lot with
- [00:31:05.620]our airport authority and we
- [00:31:07.850]received a grant through the
- [00:31:10.090]Nebraska Aviation
- [00:31:11.660]Administration
- [00:31:12.240]for 1.197 million.
- [00:31:15.460]Um, this cost, we had to match,
- [00:31:18.610]um, only 167,000.
- [00:31:22.100]Um, so we, uh, are able to
- [00:31:24.890]completely do our runway with
- [00:31:27.910]this funding.
- [00:31:29.720]Um, it'll start in September
- [00:31:32.100]and they'll completely grind it
- [00:31:34.670]down as you can see.
- [00:31:35.600]It's, it's honestly scary to
- [00:31:38.090]even land at.
- [00:31:39.280]So, um, it'll be nice to have
- [00:31:41.530]this being utilized a lot more
- [00:31:43.800]now.
- [00:31:44.440]I know WNCC, um, once it is, um,
- [00:31:48.500]you know, repaired, does a lot
- [00:31:51.280]of touchdowns here for
- [00:31:52.700]their aviation class.
- [00:31:54.360]Um, so it's just kind of a
- [00:31:56.010]great thing to have for not
- [00:31:57.650]only our community, but other
- [00:31:59.800]communities to utilize too, um,
- [00:32:02.230]or emergency services.
- [00:32:04.140]We're kind of out there.
- [00:32:05.580]You know, in the middle of
- [00:32:06.820]nowhere and it's nice to have
- [00:32:08.170]them have a safe place to land.
- [00:32:09.840]Um, we have FBC here, which is
- [00:32:12.610]huge and, um, just several
- [00:32:15.220]other little, uh, entities that
- [00:32:17.920]will be able to utilize it
- [00:32:19.040]again.
- [00:32:19.440]So, um, they'll grind it down.
- [00:32:21.800]We'll do a four inch overlay
- [00:32:23.670]and, um, have a new runway,
- [00:32:25.420]which I'm super excited about.
- [00:32:27.580]I'm still working on the
- [00:32:30.150]finishing, um, amount of the
- [00:32:33.660]lighting for the, um, the
- [00:32:35.560]airport right now.
- [00:32:38.240]Um, the total cost was right
- [00:32:39.960]around a hundred and or 209,000.
- [00:32:42.920]So we're just a little bit
- [00:32:44.300]short, um, around 50,000 that
- [00:32:46.810]we're still working on.
- [00:32:48.360]Um, but I'm hopeful that within
- [00:32:50.920]the next couple of months we
- [00:32:52.980]can get that funding secured
- [00:32:55.300]and, uh, at least have the,
- [00:32:57.800]with the money we have now,
- [00:33:00.100]have it be able to have run
- [00:33:02.240]under
- [00:33:02.780]the, um,
- [00:33:05.520]runway before they pour it.
- [00:33:07.340]So, so we have a little bit
- [00:33:09.010]left on that, but we did get
- [00:33:10.820]the huge grant for the majority
- [00:33:12.580]of the runway.
- [00:33:13.300]So, um, lots of times you have
- [00:33:16.580]like dual County tourism, um,
- [00:33:20.250]or you have, you know,
- [00:33:22.640]visitor centers, um, grants, or
- [00:33:25.230]even your, if you have a
- [00:33:26.930]community fund, they are
- [00:33:28.920]willing
- [00:33:29.180]to help, um, with signage, um,
- [00:33:31.570]for tourists attractions, or,
- [00:33:33.450]you know, just to enlighten
- [00:33:35.480]your community.
- [00:33:36.320]We recently received a grant
- [00:33:38.140]from dual County tourism for 2,500.
- [00:33:41.320]And with that, um, we were able
- [00:33:43.620]to replace 36 new welcome signs.
- [00:33:46.520]The total cost was actually
- [00:33:48.700]right around, I think 3,600,
- [00:33:51.990]but, um, we, the city covered
- [00:33:54.620]the remaining of that.
- [00:33:55.860]So we did get that, um, grant.
- [00:33:58.500]And if you drive through, you
- [00:33:59.840]will see all the new signs.
- [00:34:01.200]Um, one thing I recently.
- [00:34:05.440]Recently applied for, I shouldn't
- [00:34:07.470]say recently, cause it was like
- [00:34:09.220]January, but, um, recently
- [00:34:10.880]heard on in may was that we, um,
- [00:34:13.480]our application was accepted
- [00:34:15.920]for community for kids.
- [00:34:18.160]And as we all know, daycare, um,
- [00:34:21.480]and our childcare and preschool
- [00:34:24.580]there, you know, it's just a
- [00:34:27.420]struggle in all of our
- [00:34:28.190]communities.
- [00:34:28.840]Um, we had, uh, volunteers of
- [00:34:31.700]America prior and they all
- [00:34:34.100]pulled out.
- [00:34:35.400]Of several of these smaller
- [00:34:37.420]communities, um, within our
- [00:34:39.700]area.
- [00:34:40.420]Um, and so we kind of had to
- [00:34:42.350]figure out what we were doing
- [00:34:44.260]for childcare, daycare,
- [00:34:46.300]preschool,
- [00:34:47.200]um, all of the above and our
- [00:34:49.330]school actually took it on.
- [00:34:51.720]However, this program, um, with
- [00:34:54.620]this program, we are able to
- [00:34:56.940]receive $10,000 for the next,
- [00:35:00.620]um, every year for the next
- [00:35:02.460]three years, um, to help with
- [00:35:04.660]any.
- [00:35:05.360]Cost related to, um, childcare
- [00:35:07.800]or preschool.
- [00:35:09.040]So, um, just some of the ideas
- [00:35:11.550]that we are thinking is like,
- [00:35:13.960]um, you know, kids that
- [00:35:15.920]may not qualify for, um, you
- [00:35:18.490]know, reduced services, but, um,
- [00:35:21.790]we are able to offer them
- [00:35:23.940]scholarships or, um, any
- [00:35:25.660]equipment that's needed, you
- [00:35:27.610]know, for, um, these different
- [00:35:29.840]facilities, um, community for
- [00:35:31.950]kids, you can, what you do is
- [00:35:33.750]you purchase it and then
- [00:35:35.320]they reimburse.
- [00:35:35.920]So, um, you do have to have a
- [00:35:38.470]501 three C to run this through.
- [00:35:42.280]So that's kind of the tricky
- [00:35:44.330]part.
- [00:35:44.980]We have a, uh, foundation here
- [00:35:47.730]in chapel.
- [00:35:48.900]It's called succeed that they
- [00:35:50.650]created.
- [00:35:51.400]Um, I think back in like 2000
- [00:35:54.660]and we are able to run, I
- [00:35:56.720]actually utilize it on a weekly
- [00:35:59.620]basis to run grants through it.
- [00:36:01.660]So, um, if your community doesn't
- [00:36:03.530]have something like that, I
- [00:36:05.110]would.
- [00:36:05.280]I would highly recommend it
- [00:36:06.570]because a lot of these grants
- [00:36:07.930]that I'm talking about are
- [00:36:09.860]grants that you have to run
- [00:36:11.680]through, um, a 501 three C and
- [00:36:14.320]not always a municipality.
- [00:36:16.500]So, um, we are just starting
- [00:36:18.560]this, the community for kids,
- [00:36:20.820]our first meetings actually
- [00:36:22.860]like
- [00:36:23.160]next two weeks from now.
- [00:36:24.760]So I'll learn a little more,
- [00:36:26.880]but, um, I'm excited to be able
- [00:36:29.350]to, um, have this funding
- [00:36:31.420]available.
- [00:36:31.900]Um, you can also help with like,
- [00:36:34.190]if somebody.
- [00:36:35.240]In a in-home daycare is just
- [00:36:36.760]starting and needs, you know,
- [00:36:38.700]the licensing costs covered,
- [00:36:40.340]um, you can help with that as
- [00:36:42.370]well.
- [00:36:43.000]So, um, if you don't have
- [00:36:44.860]communities for kids in your
- [00:36:46.900]area, I do have contact info
- [00:36:49.020]for that too.
- [00:36:49.880]So, okay.
- [00:36:53.520]That was it.
- [00:36:54.700]Thank you, Sean.
- [00:37:00.080]What do we have?
- [00:37:05.200]Some that I didn't know about
- [00:37:06.450]you had done some projects that
- [00:37:07.950]was exciting.
- [00:37:08.600]Yeah.
- [00:37:08.940]And there's a few other ones I
- [00:37:10.300]didn't include.
- [00:37:11.320]Um, we had a $1.5 million
- [00:37:13.780]street project, um, that we did,
- [00:37:16.540]but honestly, the, the extra
- [00:37:19.080]funding we received was Buckley
- [00:37:20.470]and Virginia.
- [00:37:21.240]So, um, it wasn't trust or, you
- [00:37:23.670]know, outside of the community,
- [00:37:25.830]um, and the rest was bonded.
- [00:37:27.740]So I didn't include that.
- [00:37:29.280]And I did receive an another
- [00:37:31.620]anonymous, um, grant for our 4-H.
- [00:37:35.160]Um, and I didn't include that.
- [00:37:36.160]And there was a few others, but
- [00:37:36.780]they're just small.
- [00:37:37.160]So, um, but majority of the
- [00:37:38.650]time, if you reach out to, um,
- [00:37:40.220]community members, a lot of
- [00:37:41.660]times,
- [00:37:42.160]or, you know, businesses, even
- [00:37:44.700]within your community, they
- [00:37:46.900]also will help out like Adams
- [00:37:49.160]bank.
- [00:37:50.160]So I don't know how you have
- [00:37:52.880]time to get everything done.
- [00:37:55.160]I don't know how you have time
- [00:38:02.980]to get everything done.
- [00:38:10.160]But, um, my question still
- [00:38:11.320]remains like, how do you
- [00:38:12.440]balance it all?
- [00:38:13.160]Yeah.
- [00:38:14.160]I have no idea to be honest
- [00:38:16.160]with you.
- [00:38:17.160]Um, I, I just, I, I kind of set
- [00:38:20.610]myself a list every week, like
- [00:38:23.600]what I need to be done.
- [00:38:26.160]Um, I, I deal with all the
- [00:38:28.610]contractors, so I'm the one
- [00:38:30.760]that, um, calls them, meets
- [00:38:33.200]with
- [00:38:34.160]them, whatever we need.
- [00:38:35.160]Um, I do that as well.
- [00:38:37.160]So I kind of just have to set
- [00:38:38.390]myself a list.
- [00:38:39.160]Because I, I really don't have
- [00:38:41.620]anybody else helping with any
- [00:38:44.000]of these as far as, um, an
- [00:38:46.160]additional partner, you know,
- [00:38:48.370]or, or, um, our city clerk has
- [00:38:50.320]their own stuff going on.
- [00:38:52.160]So I never really reach out.
- [00:38:54.160]I, I just kind of, I don't know.
- [00:38:57.160]I think you have to like love
- [00:38:59.020]your community and really be
- [00:39:00.950]self-motivated to, um, be in
- [00:39:03.160]any of our positions, but there
- [00:39:06.070]are so many grants.
- [00:39:08.160]And I'll send it to, I use, um,
- [00:39:10.360]it's called the, gosh, I, I don't
- [00:39:13.090]have my computer running
- [00:39:15.160]right now, but it, um, I'll
- [00:39:16.940]send it to Jamie and she can
- [00:39:18.530]send it out to you guys.
- [00:39:20.160]It's like the Nebraska grant
- [00:39:21.870]book, literally.
- [00:39:23.160]And, um, it has indexes with
- [00:39:24.910]different subjects and you can
- [00:39:26.750]see what all grants are
- [00:39:28.170]available
- [00:39:29.160]for that.
- [00:39:30.160]Um, it has, um, all the grant
- [00:39:32.490]providers listed.
- [00:39:34.160]And a lot of times I will just.
- [00:39:37.160]Put in, um, you know, look at
- [00:39:40.290]and see what I'm looking for
- [00:39:42.440]and, uh, just apply for several
- [00:39:45.160]within that.
- [00:39:46.160]I usually always say I I'll
- [00:39:48.170]apply for 20 and hope for three.
- [00:39:51.160]So it is a lot of paperwork,
- [00:39:53.990]but it's worth it in the long
- [00:39:56.450]run.
- [00:39:57.160]And majority of these grants
- [00:39:58.520]that you've seen on the slides.
- [00:40:00.160]Um, I would say out of all of
- [00:40:02.490]them, the city did not have to
- [00:40:05.060]pay for very much of any of
- [00:40:06.160]these grants.
- [00:40:07.160]So most of the projects they're
- [00:40:09.300]like, yep, you can, you like,
- [00:40:11.590]you can initiate that as
- [00:40:13.160]long as you can find all the
- [00:40:14.560]funding.
- [00:40:15.160]So.
- [00:40:16.160]So Shauna, do you see that
- [00:40:17.920]people are more willing to help
- [00:40:20.020]and contribute than they were
- [00:40:23.160]when you started five years ago?
- [00:40:25.160]Oh, a hundred percent.
- [00:40:27.160]Yeah.
- [00:40:28.160]Um, I think when I first
- [00:40:29.790]started, I think people were
- [00:40:31.760]like, we hired somebody and,
- [00:40:33.840]and
- [00:40:34.160]child protection.
- [00:40:35.160]Like, great.
- [00:40:36.160]This is, you know, what are we
- [00:40:37.490]doing here?
- [00:40:38.160]And now I feel like, um, I, I
- [00:40:40.660]think they see the progress in
- [00:40:43.170]our community and then they're
- [00:40:45.160]definitely more willing to help
- [00:40:47.990]out as well.
- [00:40:49.160]Yeah.
- [00:40:50.160]So, and I, I mean, I listed
- [00:40:52.610]like the programs I'm in just
- [00:40:54.870]because I feel like a lot of
- [00:40:57.160]times
- [00:40:57.160]we don't know that Rotary, you
- [00:40:59.620]know, will donate, um, a
- [00:41:02.360]thousand for a table or, and
- [00:41:04.160]I know it's just a thousand,
- [00:41:05.720]but you still, it's, those are,
- [00:41:07.740]those are the little costs
- [00:41:09.160]that add up.
- [00:41:10.160]But I definitely, and I always
- [00:41:13.970]feel like the more people and
- [00:41:16.620]community or, or members of
- [00:41:19.160]different organizations, you
- [00:41:21.160]can get involved, the more buy-in
- [00:41:23.280]there is, and they're going
- [00:41:25.160]to make sure.
- [00:41:26.160]And how do you get the kids
- [00:41:27.430]involved?
- [00:41:28.160]I guess that was my other, my
- [00:41:29.640]question is, is, are you able
- [00:41:30.940]to get the kids involved
- [00:41:32.160]so that they understand what
- [00:41:34.200]you've done to help them?
- [00:41:36.160]And like you said, with
- [00:41:37.700]uniforms, they wouldn't be able
- [00:41:39.640]to play.
- [00:41:40.160]Right.
- [00:41:41.160]If you didn't have the uniforms,
- [00:41:42.700]if they had to pay for those.
- [00:41:44.160]Yeah.
- [00:41:45.160]And I, I think a huge thing
- [00:41:47.220]with that is the fact that I,
- [00:41:49.490]um, always make sure to include
- [00:41:52.160]the kids so that they know.
- [00:41:54.160]And, um, I have them, you know,
- [00:41:56.080]they'll write thank you letters.
- [00:41:58.160]They'll, um, I just, I think it's
- [00:42:00.830]important.
- [00:42:01.160]Like you said, a lot of times
- [00:42:02.880]in this day and age, you know,
- [00:42:04.650]kids are handed things
- [00:42:06.160]and they don't, you know, think,
- [00:42:07.790]you know, how much work
- [00:42:08.870]actually went into that or what
- [00:42:10.160]the costs actually are for
- [00:42:11.620]those.
- [00:42:12.160]And I do have a lot of kids
- [00:42:13.800]that are, um, willing to help.
- [00:42:16.160]I think it helps that I'm
- [00:42:18.130]involved with a lot of, um,
- [00:42:21.020]different youth things too.
- [00:42:23.160]In our community, I, I coach,
- [00:42:25.760]um, or have coached volleyball,
- [00:42:28.190]basketball, soccer.
- [00:42:30.160]Um, softball.
- [00:42:32.160]So I think that helps because
- [00:42:33.970]the kids just know me in the
- [00:42:35.630]community and they're more
- [00:42:37.160]willing to help me since I'm
- [00:42:38.350]helping them.
- [00:42:39.160]If that makes sense.
- [00:42:41.160]I do feel like, oh, go ahead.
- [00:42:47.160]I'm sorry.
- [00:42:48.160]And I love the idea of the
- [00:42:49.410]splash pad because we all,
- [00:42:50.850]every community sees that when
- [00:42:52.480]everybody
- [00:42:53.160]goes back to school, all the
- [00:42:55.610]college kids, AKA lifeguards go.
- [00:42:58.160]Yes.
- [00:42:59.160]High school kids are starting
- [00:43:01.270]practice.
- [00:43:02.160]There's nobody to keep the pool
- [00:43:04.110]open, but yet it's still hot.
- [00:43:06.160]Exactly.
- [00:43:07.160]Exactly.
- [00:43:08.160]And that's one of the things I'm
- [00:43:09.350]most excited about with the
- [00:43:10.390]splash pad is just being able
- [00:43:12.160]to keep it open.
- [00:43:13.160]Um, our goal is we usually
- [00:43:14.750]close the bathrooms in the park
- [00:43:16.660]around mid October.
- [00:43:18.160]So that's kind of what our goal
- [00:43:20.200]is for the splash pad too.
- [00:43:22.160]Um, and one thing about, I will
- [00:43:24.370]tell you one thing about the
- [00:43:26.270]splash pad is once I had the
- [00:43:28.160]chance to get it, I had the
- [00:43:29.280]chance to get it.
- [00:43:30.160]Um, I had the chance to get it.
- [00:43:32.160]I had the chance to get it.
