- [00:00:04.958]I think one of the things I'm proudest about at this college
- [00:00:08.458]is our ability to be adaptable, flexible, and innovative
- [00:00:12.083]while remaining really human centered and focused on student success.
- [00:00:16.666]The faculty here is great.
- [00:00:17.916]Painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics. They're all wonderful,
- [00:00:22.125]professional artists that like to teach.
- [00:00:24.583]And why don't you go to your first lighting cue?
- [00:00:27.625]I love collaborating, which is why I do theater, right?
- [00:00:32.000]Which is why I do live performance,
- [00:00:33.791]because I want to collaborate with the people around me.
- [00:00:36.125]Since day one being here, I felt like my professors
- [00:00:39.416]have done a good job with helping push me.
- [00:00:43.083]And everybody wants to see you win.
- [00:00:44.916]I've had nothing but support since I've started my journey,
- [00:00:53.875]Everyone is just so welcoming.
- [00:00:56.625]And there's a sense of support around all the communities.
- [00:01:01.583]The thing builds in the moment.
- [00:01:04.541]Nebraska is one of the richest
- [00:01:07.375]intellectual communities I think I've encountered as an educator.
- [00:01:11.291]I love coming into these bright rooms.
- [00:01:14.958]I love talking to the students.
- [00:01:17.291]I love their excitement.
- [00:01:19.291]and I would just have this biggest smile on my face because, like, oh my God,
- [00:01:22.875]I get to do this every single day.
- [00:01:24.625]It's just so amazing and so much fun for me and so fulfilling.
- [00:01:28.333]And then you will turn away from each other
- [00:01:31.083]to do the whole stomp.
- [00:01:31.875]I've been here for five years, and it just feels like every year there's
- [00:01:35.583]more people arriving with fresh thoughts, fresh ideas.
- [00:01:38.666]There's creative projects happening all the time.
- [00:01:41.375]There's a ton of collaboration that happens in the space,
- [00:01:43.583]and it’s
- [00:01:45.291]a space that celebrates that collaboration on top of it.
- [00:01:48.333]It's really cool to be able to be a part of that and like, have access to
- [00:01:53.291]so many different things.
- [00:01:55.125]Turn towards me.
- [00:01:57.708]Here in the Center for Emerging Media Arts,
- [00:02:00.250]we are, you know, very interdisciplinary.
- [00:02:03.083]And so we're always looking for ways that we can collaborate
- [00:02:07.208]across the arts and sciences.
- [00:02:09.541]Geographically, we are away from the main metropolitan areas.
- [00:02:13.083]But in terms of human capital, I mean, we are in the thick of it.
- [00:02:15.958]I mean, I believe in having the right people
- [00:02:18.625]teaching the students the right way.
- [00:02:21.208]It's just really, really powerful.
- [00:02:25.500]They're actually building a full experience
- [00:02:27.500]that an audience is going to go through.
- [00:02:29.458]It is a laboratory for storytelling.
- [00:02:31.416]So, how to tell a story.
- [00:02:33.375]It doesn't matter whether it's a screenplay
- [00:02:35.333]or an animation. The basic rules of story are universal.
- [00:02:39.208]And so we teach them, and then we throw as many different formats at the students
- [00:02:43.125]as we possibly can.
- [00:02:44.166]Young people getting into music and getting into film have to know
- [00:02:48.708]a lot about what they’re doing,
- [00:02:50.250]and all the different processes
- [00:02:51.666]that are going on
- [00:02:52.916]because you are going to be quite likely doing all of it.
- [00:03:00.750]Oh, that's much better job on the left hand.
- [00:03:02.625]What I want the university
- [00:03:04.708]and the School of Music to be
- [00:03:06.416]is a place where young people know that they can come
- [00:03:11.083]and they can completely thrive.
- [00:03:19.333]People here are so friendly.
- [00:03:21.666]Not only like, nice, but really friendly.
- [00:03:24.375]I feel that they commit to people here.
- [00:03:27.708]That's so fulfilling.
- [00:03:29.791]Our teachers, they all want the best for us and they all want us to succeed.
- [00:03:36.916]Our college is preparing students for future careers.
- [00:03:40.208]We're looking into the future, trying to understand what it takes to be
- [00:03:43.583]adaptable, flexible and ready for contemporary careers in the arts.
