- [00:00:00.000]Well, the University of
- [00:00:01.000]Nebraska-Lincoln, helping
- [00:00:02.520]producers optimize their pesticide
- [00:00:05.060]application.
- [00:00:05.680]They have a number of
- [00:00:06.570]management resources and also
- [00:00:07.970]training opportunities to
- [00:00:09.330]enhance
- [00:00:09.860]decision-making in the field.
- [00:00:11.340]Assistant Professor Dr. Milos
- [00:00:13.420]Zaric joins us now for an
- [00:00:14.900]update.
- [00:00:15.640]Thank you for being here. You
- [00:00:17.100]have an incredible background.
- [00:00:18.800]From what I hear,
- [00:00:19.820]you grew up on a small family
- [00:00:21.490]farm in Serbia. Speak to that a
- [00:00:23.480]little bit.
- [00:00:25.060]Well, definitely grateful to be
- [00:00:26.970]here and good morning everyone.
- [00:00:28.980]Just a little bit about,
- [00:00:31.320]we are doing actually a lot of
- [00:00:32.920]research and extension efforts
- [00:00:34.740]within University of Nebraska
- [00:00:36.500]that everything leads toward
- [00:00:38.090]the optimized application
- [00:00:39.470]parameters. Yes, I grew up
- [00:00:41.160]originally
- [00:00:41.520]from Serbia, where I actually
- [00:00:43.340]got the first instance about
- [00:00:44.850]how we apply different products
- [00:00:46.740]and to increase the awareness
- [00:00:48.020]to get the maximum out of the
- [00:00:49.180]every single product that we
- [00:00:50.460]are
- [00:00:50.680]actually applying out in the
- [00:00:52.280]field. That's actually really
- [00:00:53.970]what triggered me to start
- [00:00:55.040]to get into this one, to learn
- [00:00:56.850]about how we optimize a lot of
- [00:00:58.480]different things and to pretty
- [00:01:00.300]much help growers as well, and
- [00:01:02.170]as well our custom and the
- [00:01:03.660]private applicators to make
- [00:01:05.500]informed
- [00:01:05.840]decisions. Well, now you are,
- [00:01:07.490]of course, leading a research
- [00:01:09.190]extension program in Nebraska
- [00:01:10.880]and
- [00:01:11.160]focusing on these pesticide
- [00:01:12.680]application technologies. Maybe
- [00:01:14.810]you can share a little
- [00:01:15.880]bit, Dr. Zaric, about your
- [00:01:17.440]research and what it looks like
- [00:01:19.000]there in Nebraska.
- [00:01:20.100]Yes, typically when we are
- [00:01:21.770]doing a lot of research
- [00:01:23.200]objectives, we are doing a lot
- [00:01:25.020]of
- [00:01:25.020]different things. We are
- [00:01:26.270]actually looking to fullify
- [00:01:27.250]three different things, to
- [00:01:28.160]maximize
- [00:01:28.620]products that we will be
- [00:01:30.060]applying out in the field to
- [00:01:31.760]mitigate as much as possible
- [00:01:33.300]undesirable
- [00:01:33.940]effect of all of those
- [00:01:34.940]applications and everything
- [00:01:36.380]else. The big part of things
- [00:01:37.830]that we are at least
- [00:01:38.760]doing there, we are testing a
- [00:01:40.190]lot of different nozzle types,
- [00:01:41.750]products, and different spray
- [00:01:43.460]additives that actually goes
- [00:01:45.090]within those applications and
- [00:01:46.790]help our stakeholders to
- [00:01:48.240]make decisions on the best of
- [00:01:49.870]their own. Well, I know that
- [00:01:51.630]you're not just doing all of
- [00:01:53.360]this
- [00:01:53.520]research. You're also leading a
- [00:01:54.130]research extension program in
- [00:01:54.620]Nebraska. Yes, I'm leading a
- [00:01:55.000]research
- [00:01:55.000]extension program in Nebraska.
- [00:01:55.020]You're also leading a research
- [00:01:55.030]extension program in Nebraska.
- [00:01:55.050]You're
- [00:01:55.120]very active in extension. Maybe
- [00:01:57.150]you can speak to that side of
- [00:01:59.060]your work and what you do there.
- [00:02:00.840]Yes, definitely. One of the big
- [00:02:02.890]ongoing opportunities right now
- [00:02:04.900]that is funded through
- [00:02:06.100]Nebraska Corn Board is actually
- [00:02:07.850]the Pest Academy or the Precision
- [00:02:09.650]Education Spray Technologies.
- [00:02:11.640]When we are looking over the
- [00:02:13.360]next year to have six full
- [00:02:14.930]sessions, two and a half day of
- [00:02:16.860]the efforts
- [00:02:17.580]that actually will be bringing
- [00:02:19.890]custom and the private applicators
- [00:02:21.940]out within our lab to get
- [00:02:23.480]the training about all of the
- [00:02:24.980]decisions that we are making.
- [00:02:24.980]So, I think it's a very, very
- [00:02:24.980]important for us to be making
- [00:02:25.870]the decisions that we are
- [00:02:26.610]making out in the field and to
- [00:02:27.340]improve those
- [00:02:27.880]for the moving forward for the
- [00:02:29.470]future. Absolutely. It is clear
- [00:02:31.480]that your work is going to be
- [00:02:32.480]helping
- [00:02:32.780]a lot of producers become more
- [00:02:34.040]resilient and more sustainable.
- [00:02:35.560]You know, a lot of people go,
- [00:02:37.200]"When can I get my hands on
- [00:02:38.170]this? Where can I get all this
- [00:02:39.390]information that you're doing
- [00:02:40.840]there in
- [00:02:41.900]the lab?" Where can people go
- [00:02:43.550]to find out more information?
- [00:02:45.380]So, the best way will be
- [00:02:46.880]visiting
- [00:02:47.320]our pat.unl.edu, our official
- [00:02:49.890]web page, but as well, people
- [00:02:52.030]can reach out to our local
- [00:02:53.760]extension office,
- [00:02:54.960]as well, that you're fortunate
- [00:02:56.250]to have across the state, and
- [00:02:57.750]people can actually get easier
- [00:02:59.060]hold of
- [00:02:59.520]us even in that way. Doing some
- [00:03:01.000]great work there. We do
- [00:03:02.070]appreciate you taking the time
- [00:03:03.400]out of your
- [00:03:03.940]busy day, that is, to join us
- [00:03:05.440]here. Dr. Miloš Zarić, thank
- [00:03:07.340]you again with University of
- [00:03:08.840]Nebraska-Lincoln.
