- [00:00:00.000]okay, Erin, I am going to hand
- [00:00:03.510]it off to you. Perfect. Thanks,
- [00:00:07.100]Maggie. Sorry that I started
- [00:00:08.980]that screen share while you
- [00:00:11.110]were still talking. Okay, so we
- [00:00:13.990]are going to go through the
- [00:00:15.810]schedule
- [00:00:16.660]for the Campus Readiness Retreat.
- [00:00:19.140]If you have any questions,
- [00:00:21.050]definitely feel free to ask
- [00:00:22.820]those
- [00:00:23.280]as we're going if you think of
- [00:00:25.210]something. I will also send out
- [00:00:27.440]an email with the schedule and
- [00:00:29.660]some
- [00:00:29.880]reminders, some things to keep
- [00:00:31.420]in mind. But just wanted to go
- [00:00:33.040]through everything so everyone
- [00:00:34.440]kind
- [00:00:34.780]of has a general idea of what
- [00:00:36.530]we're doing. I will say it is
- [00:00:38.620]slightly different between the
- [00:00:40.790]two
- [00:00:40.920]campuses because on Monday,
- [00:00:42.490]everyone is in their home
- [00:00:43.810]campus. Rather than bouncing
- [00:00:45.520]back and forth
- [00:00:46.380]on like a screen share, I'm
- [00:00:47.580]just going to go with the
- [00:00:48.630]Lincoln Campus schedule. The
- [00:00:50.350]actual activities
- [00:00:51.520]are all pretty much the exact
- [00:00:52.500]same. The only thing that's
- [00:00:53.510]going to be different is the
- [00:00:54.450]room locations.
- [00:00:55.240]But just keep that in mind.
- [00:00:59.760]Yeah, so Sunday, everyone
- [00:01:02.100]should be moving in from four
- [00:01:04.320]to six. We are all going to be
- [00:01:06.870]on campus to
- [00:01:07.860]hand out your computers and
- [00:01:09.150]your swag. So don't go out and
- [00:01:10.600]buy a backpack because you're
- [00:01:11.990]getting a
- [00:01:12.600]backpack. So in Lincoln, we
- [00:01:15.230]will be in the Kiewit Hall
- [00:01:17.420]lobby, which Kiewit Hall is
- [00:01:19.780]right next to your
- [00:01:21.260]dorm. So it should be really
- [00:01:23.260]nice and easy. We're on the
- [00:01:25.470]first floor. And then in Omaha,
- [00:01:27.500]I believe
- [00:01:28.280]Janine...
- [00:01:29.760]The second floor, where there's
- [00:01:32.620]like a steady... You'll notice
- [00:01:35.430]that as you're moving into the
- [00:01:37.040]building, into the Scott
- [00:01:38.480]building, you come up the stairway
- [00:01:40.470]to the second floor, or you can
- [00:01:42.470]come
- [00:01:42.580]off the elevators, as the gang
- [00:01:44.060]can probably tell you. You'll
- [00:01:45.610]probably be coming off elevators
- [00:01:47.230]and
- [00:01:47.540]stuff. But you'll come off to
- [00:01:49.530]the elevators and I'll be there
- [00:01:51.510]between four and five.
- [00:01:53.200]Perfect. So yeah, we try to
- [00:01:56.910]make it easy so you don't have
- [00:01:59.050]to go to
- [00:01:59.640]too far to get all of that. And
- [00:02:01.560]then you have the rest of the
- [00:02:03.270]evening to get your computer
- [00:02:05.080]set up,
- [00:02:05.700]to just hang out, meet each
- [00:02:07.470]other, explore campus, explore
- [00:02:09.730]your city, do whatever
- [00:02:11.560]feels right to you. Start
- [00:02:13.990]unpacking. Monday, we're going
- [00:02:17.360]to get started not super early,
- [00:02:21.480]but maybe a little earlier than
- [00:02:23.620]you're used to this summer. So
- [00:02:25.820]we're asking in Lincoln that
- [00:02:27.880]everyone meet in the first
- [00:02:29.100]floor of Kiewit Hall. So we're
- [00:02:29.620]going to be in the first floor
- [00:02:29.620]of Kiewit Hall.
- [00:02:29.620]by 8.50, so we can get started
- [00:02:31.890]at nine. Omaha, I think the
- [00:02:34.570]plan is to have y'all meet the
- [00:02:37.340]peer
- [00:02:37.440]mentors by the front desk, the
- [00:02:39.160]Scott Crossing front desk, I
- [00:02:40.810]think at like 8.45. So you have
- [00:02:43.240]time to walk up to the building
- [00:02:45.530]and get situated. Then we'll
- [00:02:47.910]start with welcome and intros.
- [00:02:50.580]We'll have all the peer mentors
- [00:02:52.460]will be there. So we might run
- [00:02:54.050]through those quick and all the
- [00:02:55.900]staff
- [00:02:56.380]will kind of be dividing and
- [00:02:57.840]conquering between the two.
- [00:02:59.600]So we'll have all the peer
- [00:03:00.110]mentors will be there. So we
- [00:03:00.740]might run through those quick
- [00:03:01.390]and all the staff
- [00:03:29.580]Um, so that's a lot of fun on
- [00:03:30.970]each campus. Um, then we're
- [00:03:32.730]going to do a tour of the
- [00:03:34.160]College
- [00:03:34.320]of Engineering, um, followed by
- [00:03:37.270]lunch. Um, in Lincoln, we'll be
- [00:03:40.430]going to the Willa Cather
- [00:03:42.620]Dining Hall in Omaha. Y'all
- [00:03:44.510]will be going to the Scott Cafe.
- [00:03:46.650]Um, so that should be a lot of
- [00:03:48.470]fun.
- [00:03:49.080]We are going to do a, an
- [00:03:50.330]activity after lunch called
- [00:03:51.950]Meet My Friend, where instead
- [00:03:53.690]of introducing
- [00:03:54.680]yourself, you introduce someone
- [00:03:56.490]else. Um, so at lunch, we're
- [00:03:58.150]going to ask that you sit by
- [00:03:59.580]your friend that you're
- [00:04:00.720]introducing, um, just so you
- [00:04:02.190]have a chance to talk with them.
- [00:04:03.820]We'll
- [00:04:04.160]have some questions typed up,
- [00:04:05.970]um, for that. And then we'll
- [00:04:07.650]also talk about the Complete
- [00:04:09.440]Engineer,
- [00:04:09.880]which you probably heard about
- [00:04:11.240]at NSC this summer, but we'll
- [00:04:12.540]talk about that in a little
- [00:04:13.800]bit more detail. Um, we've got
- [00:04:15.970]Peer Mentor Speed Matching. So
- [00:04:18.090]you get a chance to meet the
- [00:04:19.800]different
- [00:04:20.020]peer mentors. We want both you
- [00:04:21.850]and the peer mentors to, um, be
- [00:04:23.680]able to share,
- [00:04:24.680]who you would be interested in
- [00:04:26.430]working with, um, to try to
- [00:04:28.090]make that relationship all the
- [00:04:30.220]more meaningful. Um, so you'll
- [00:04:31.540]have a chance to talk to all
- [00:04:32.540]the different peer mentors on
- [00:04:33.700]your
- [00:04:33.860]campus. Um, and then we'll wrap
- [00:04:35.900]up the day with College 101, um,
- [00:04:38.300]which is going to be some, like,
- [00:04:40.180]good general tips and tricks
- [00:04:41.330]about college, some things that
- [00:04:42.620]it's good to every, for
- [00:04:43.610]everyone to
- [00:04:44.080]know. Tuesday, um, this is
- [00:04:46.920]hands down, like, my favorite
- [00:04:49.490]day of the, the year. Um,
- [00:04:51.940]honestly, it's
- [00:04:53.500]so much fun. We all go to Carol
- [00:04:55.680]Joy Hauling. Um, I know this is,
- [00:04:58.160]ooh, I don't think it's,
- [00:05:00.120]that's not right. It's not
- [00:05:02.880]seven. Um, I think it's 740. Um,
- [00:05:07.360]this is an earlier day. Um,
- [00:05:10.920]but we want to make sure that
- [00:05:13.150]we get to Carol Joy Hauling, uh,
- [00:05:15.830]by nine. So I know it's a
- [00:05:17.700]little
- [00:05:17.820]bit early, but it'll be fun and
- [00:05:19.710]you can sleep on the bus. Um,
- [00:05:21.700]so Carol Joy Hauling,
- [00:05:23.480]it's, um, it's a camp, uh, that's
- [00:05:25.600]about halfway between Lincoln
- [00:05:26.990]and Omaha. That's the reason we
- [00:05:28.700]use it, um, just cause it's
- [00:05:30.650]really conveniently located. Um,
- [00:05:33.300]but they have some really cool
- [00:05:35.480]activities. They have a low
- [00:05:36.410]ropes course. So that's what we're
- [00:05:37.560]going to do in the morning.
- [00:05:38.560]We'll get there. You'll have a
- [00:05:40.350]chance to get settled. Um, and
- [00:05:42.210]we will show you on both
- [00:05:43.660]campuses
- [00:05:44.060]where the bus stop will be. Um,
- [00:05:46.110]again, it's not too far from
- [00:05:47.530]the dorm in Omaha. It's like
- [00:05:49.350]right
- [00:05:49.580]outside the dorm in Lincoln. It's
- [00:05:51.600]just around, um,
- [00:05:53.460]which is the building right
- [00:05:54.920]next to Cuit. We'll show you
- [00:05:56.370]all that. Um, and kind of give
- [00:05:58.220]you some
- [00:05:58.740]info on what to do if you're
- [00:05:59.760]running late, all those things,
- [00:06:01.150]but, uh, please make sure that
- [00:06:02.540]you're there. So that way we
- [00:06:03.880]don't miss the low ropes course.
- [00:06:05.480]Um, so yeah, we go out and we
- [00:06:06.690]do
- [00:06:06.940]some team building activities.
- [00:06:08.350]We do a low ropes course. If
- [00:06:09.490]the weather's cooperative, if
- [00:06:10.730]not,
- [00:06:11.100]we'll be inside. They're great.
- [00:06:12.910]They've got different things
- [00:06:14.320]for us to do. Um, with that,
- [00:06:15.960]you do need to make sure that
- [00:06:18.190]you are wearing closed toed
- [00:06:20.420]shoes. Um, if you're not
- [00:06:22.640]wearing
- [00:06:23.440]flip flops or sandals or
- [00:06:24.780]something, even if they're
- [00:06:26.320]athletic sandals, um, we'll ask
- [00:06:28.180]you to
- [00:06:28.640]turn around and go back to your
- [00:06:30.010]room. Um, no one wants to do
- [00:06:31.380]that. So just go ahead and wear
- [00:06:32.880]those
- [00:06:33.260]closed toed shoes. Um, and you
- [00:06:35.550]can wear comfortable clothing,
- [00:06:37.860]um, that day. So, you know,
- [00:06:40.180]whatever that
- [00:06:41.200]means to you, whatever you're
- [00:06:43.020]going to move around in, um, if
- [00:06:44.910]it helps to know, we will have
- [00:06:46.650]a
- [00:06:46.800]photographer there. Um, we have
- [00:06:48.780]someone come and take nice
- [00:06:50.270]professional pictures cause
- [00:06:51.910]really great
- [00:06:53.420]um, but if that influences, uh,
- [00:06:56.510]you at all, um, just, just so
- [00:06:59.440]you know, um, we'll have lunch
- [00:07:02.500]there
- [00:07:02.820]and then a little bit of free
- [00:07:03.870]time. And then we're going to
- [00:07:05.060]have a guest speaker come in.
- [00:07:06.380]She's fully
- [00:07:07.000]aware that y'all will be in
- [00:07:07.980]comfy clothes. She's going to
- [00:07:09.200]be in comfy clothes too. Um,
- [00:07:10.450]she's great.
- [00:07:11.100]She's going to talk about civil
- [00:07:12.920]conversations. Um, just kind of
- [00:07:15.030]like how to treat each other
- [00:07:16.700]civilly.
- [00:07:17.100]Um, uh, so yeah, we're really
- [00:07:18.730]excited about that. And then
- [00:07:20.310]you'll have a chance to learn
- [00:07:21.770]more about
- [00:07:23.400]that aspect of the scholarship.
- [00:07:25.380]So, um, we'll have staff kind
- [00:07:27.140]of talk about their perspective.
- [00:07:29.340]Um, and then you'll have a
- [00:07:31.370]chance to meet with your
- [00:07:33.220]success coach and all the other
- [00:07:35.700]folks that
- [00:07:36.200]they're going to be success
- [00:07:37.450]coaching and the peer mentors
- [00:07:38.840]that gonna, we have, um,
- [00:07:40.140]the success coaches in Lincoln.
- [00:07:42.400]Um, you'll be assigned based on
- [00:07:44.480]your major. Um, and then in
- [00:07:46.540]Omaha, Janine gets to hang out
- [00:07:48.540]with everybody. Um, but, um,
- [00:07:50.970]all the peer mentors that go
- [00:07:52.550]along with that
- [00:07:53.380]major will be with you too. Um,
- [00:07:55.480]you'll get to kind of do some
- [00:07:57.040]more, get to know you community
- [00:07:59.100]building activities there. Then
- [00:08:00.550]we're actually going to kind of
- [00:08:01.810]switch gears and talk about
- [00:08:03.040]resumes briefly. Um, we know a
- [00:08:04.870]lot of students are really
- [00:08:06.280]excited about possibly
- [00:08:07.590]attending the
- [00:08:08.440]career fairs freshmen, and
- [00:08:09.560]there's just not a ton of time
- [00:08:10.680]because the career fairs, um,
- [00:08:12.580]in Lincoln,
- [00:08:13.060]it's the end of September in
- [00:08:14.960]Omaha, it's in October. So
- [00:08:17.010]trying to like make sure
- [00:08:18.820]everyone
- [00:08:19.120]has a jumpstart on this to give
- [00:08:20.420]you an advantage. If you are
- [00:08:21.740]interested in, in,
- [00:08:23.360]an internship, uh, for next
- [00:08:24.740]year, or you just want to go
- [00:08:26.050]visit. So we're going to kind
- [00:08:27.470]of talk
- [00:08:27.720]about resumes to finish up the
- [00:08:30.280]day, um, and then drive back.
- [00:08:32.910]Um, it's not on here, but both
- [00:08:36.290]Monday
- [00:08:36.600]and Tuesday, we'll work with
- [00:08:38.190]the peer mentors on both
- [00:08:39.360]campuses to kind of identify a
- [00:08:40.910]couple
- [00:08:41.380]activities that are happening
- [00:08:42.710]on campus and say, Hey, we're
- [00:08:44.020]all going to like anyone that
- [00:08:45.240]wants to
- [00:08:45.740]go bowling or go putt putt golfing
- [00:08:48.300]or go to sand volleyball or
- [00:08:50.320]whatever is going on. Um, we're
- [00:08:52.870]all
- [00:08:53.340]going to meet up at five o'clock
- [00:08:54.790]here. Come join us. Um, we'll
- [00:08:56.430]try to give you a couple
- [00:08:57.500]different
- [00:08:58.120]options if we can of activities.
- [00:08:59.800]They're not required, but if
- [00:09:01.070]you just want to get out, um,
- [00:09:03.020]go do things and you don't want
- [00:09:04.280]to go by yourself. Um, that's a
- [00:09:05.710]great option, especially Monday,
- [00:09:07.240]Tuesday. Um, if you don't, if
- [00:09:09.300]that's not your vibe, you want
- [00:09:11.080]to just relax also fully
- [00:09:12.420]understand.
- [00:09:13.420]Um, and then Wednesday,
- [00:09:15.840]everyone will come to Lincoln.
- [00:09:18.960]So we'll all be together. Um,
- [00:09:23.320]folks, your morning will look
- [00:09:24.900]pretty similar to what it did
- [00:09:26.320]on Tuesday in terms of like
- [00:09:27.660]when to be on the bus. Cause we're
- [00:09:29.010]going to try to start by nine
- [00:09:30.090]again. Um, we know there's some
- [00:09:32.460]of that fun construction up
- [00:09:34.010]there. Um, if you are going, we're
- [00:09:36.140]coming from Omaha and you have
- [00:09:37.970]not
- [00:09:38.220]experienced the construction,
- [00:09:40.010]just be warned. Um, they've got
- [00:09:41.850]a couple of bridges that are
- [00:09:43.330]down
- [00:09:43.680]a lane, so it gets a little
- [00:09:45.480]backed up. Um, but yeah, so
- [00:09:47.580]Wednesday, everyone will be
- [00:09:49.670]here. So
- [00:09:53.300]as the director is going to
- [00:09:54.470]kind of talk about some
- [00:09:55.570]expectations, kind of go
- [00:09:56.800]through the handbook.
- [00:09:58.040]Um, Maggie's also going to talk
- [00:10:00.350]about financial aid and, um,
- [00:10:02.570]some of the logistics behind
- [00:10:04.570]that.
- [00:10:05.260]So if you have questions about
- [00:10:06.700]financial aid, that'll be a
- [00:10:08.080]chance to ask. Um, then we're
- [00:10:09.800]going
- [00:10:09.880]to do group photos. Um, for
- [00:10:11.800]this, we're asking everyone in
- [00:10:13.880]part of your swag, you're going
- [00:10:15.960]to get
- [00:10:16.560]a polo. Um, so go ahead and
- [00:10:18.130]just wear your polo for the
- [00:10:19.600]group photo, as well as your
- [00:10:21.190]headshots.
- [00:10:23.280]We're going to change from the
- [00:10:24.150]past. So if you've seen the
- [00:10:24.970]headshots online, um, people
- [00:10:26.620]are in their
- [00:10:27.140]business clothes, uh, we're
- [00:10:28.530]changing that up. So everyone
- [00:10:29.980]is just going to wear their polo
- [00:10:31.370]the whole
- [00:10:31.800]time. Um, and then like jeans
- [00:10:34.510]or khakis, um, for pants for
- [00:10:37.000]the group photo. Um, so we'll
- [00:10:40.160]start out
- [00:10:40.640]with a group photo around Cubitt
- [00:10:42.400]Hall, and then we'll do one-on-one
- [00:10:44.340]headshots. Um, while you're
- [00:10:46.240]not getting your headshot done,
- [00:10:48.690]um, we're going to have some
- [00:10:50.770]Legos out and you're going to
- [00:10:52.850]get a
- [00:10:53.260]little competition with that.
- [00:10:54.340]Uh, Maggie, anything else that
- [00:10:55.660]you want to talk about with
- [00:10:56.730]pictures?
- [00:10:57.080]Um, just kind of a forewarning.
- [00:10:59.870]If you are a person who
- [00:11:01.600]frequently wears glasses, um,
- [00:11:05.300]they
- [00:11:05.900]will do something that is kind
- [00:11:07.280]of weird with you. Um, so you
- [00:11:08.690]will take a picture with your
- [00:11:10.010]glasses
- [00:11:10.480]on, and then you will take a
- [00:11:11.790]second picture with your
- [00:11:13.000]glasses off and they Photoshop
- [00:11:14.530]your eyes into
- [00:11:15.320]your glasses, um, because of
- [00:11:17.330]the glare. So if you're like,
- [00:11:19.400]this looks so weird. Yeah, it
- [00:11:21.480]does a little bit.
- [00:11:23.240]Um, so if you also don't want
- [00:11:24.350]to wear your glasses for your
- [00:11:25.480]headshot, no worries. That's
- [00:11:26.840]okay. Um,
- [00:11:28.220]but I know that might be weird
- [00:11:30.030]for some folks and that
- [00:11:31.470]sometimes the eyes look mostly
- [00:11:33.450]normal.
- [00:11:34.240]Um, there's only been like one
- [00:11:36.380]picture I went, that's not
- [00:11:38.320]right. Um, so for what you've
- [00:11:40.500]been
- [00:11:40.980]forewarned and if it didn't
- [00:11:42.450]look right, you can take it
- [00:11:43.630]again next year. Cause you get
- [00:11:45.100]to come.
- [00:11:45.700]So we do let all of the, um,
- [00:11:47.210]returning students have a
- [00:11:48.710]chance to come take headshots
- [00:11:50.330]again
- [00:11:50.600]after y'all have gone through.
- [00:11:52.120]So you might see some of the,
- [00:11:53.220]the older students, um, who are
- [00:11:54.890]there too. Um, then we'll have
- [00:11:57.690]lunch and we're just going to
- [00:11:58.500]have it catered in. Um, so we
- [00:11:59.940]don't have to worry about going
- [00:12:01.390]anywhere. Um, in the afternoon,
- [00:12:03.240]we're going to do a fun little
- [00:12:05.530]puzzle challenge. Um, and then
- [00:12:08.330]we're going to talk about
- [00:12:10.420]experiential
- [00:12:11.120]learning, start setting some
- [00:12:13.130]goals for, uh, the semester and
- [00:12:15.280]the school year. Um, we'll have
- [00:12:17.510]a
- [00:12:17.720]little video where our faculty
- [00:12:19.020]fellows get to introduce
- [00:12:20.110]themselves. Unfortunately, it's
- [00:12:21.670]a busy
- [00:12:21.940]week for faculty. So not all of
- [00:12:22.370]us are going to be able to do
- [00:12:22.710]that. So we're going to have a
- [00:12:23.200]little
- [00:12:23.200]all of them are able to be
- [00:12:24.530]there. So, um, next best option.
- [00:12:26.900]Then we do have faculty who are
- [00:12:28.480]on
- [00:12:28.660]campus. They're going to come
- [00:12:30.210]and do a faculty mingle. This
- [00:12:31.680]is another really popular event
- [00:12:33.340]with students. You get a chance
- [00:12:35.420]to meet, um, someone from
- [00:12:36.930]pretty much every department in
- [00:12:39.200]the college. So that would mean
- [00:12:40.620]like someone from, uh, chemical
- [00:12:42.080]engineering and computer
- [00:12:43.210]science,
- [00:12:43.800]um, biological systems, there'll
- [00:12:45.420]be a representative there. So
- [00:12:46.830]you can have a
- [00:12:47.500]chance to talk with them. We're
- [00:12:49.220]also inviting professors who
- [00:12:50.780]teach first year classes. So,
- [00:12:53.180]um, like if you're taking a,
- [00:12:54.720]another intro civil engineering
- [00:12:56.460]class, uh, your professor might
- [00:12:58.450]be
- [00:12:58.620]there. So I'm really trying to
- [00:13:00.030]give you those opportunities to
- [00:13:01.450]meet faculty before the
- [00:13:02.510]semester
- [00:13:03.020]starts. And then I'm so excited
- [00:13:05.460]y'all. I cannot tell you, um,
- [00:13:07.870]the 402 creamery ice cream
- [00:13:10.320]truck,
- [00:13:10.940]um, is coming to campus. It's
- [00:13:12.360]going to be parked outside Q at
- [00:13:13.640]hall and we're wrapping up the
- [00:13:14.980]day
- [00:13:15.240]with an ice cream social. And
- [00:13:16.880]this is going to be open to all
- [00:13:18.370]PKF students. So cohorts one
- [00:13:20.000]through
- [00:13:20.560]four, both campuses. Um, and
- [00:13:23.160]then we're going to have a
- [00:13:23.160]little bit of a, a little bit
- [00:13:23.160]of a
- [00:13:23.160]So we're really excited. They'll
- [00:13:24.790]also be like engineering
- [00:13:25.940]student services, staff there,
- [00:13:27.760]some other faculty, all the
- [00:13:29.040]faculty from the mingle will be
- [00:13:30.330]there. Um, and just a really
- [00:13:31.780]great way to kind of close out
- [00:13:33.110]the week. Um, have a treat. If
- [00:13:34.600]you haven't had 402 creamery,
- [00:13:36.340]it's like fun, fancy, bougie
- [00:13:38.470]ice cream. So, um, we're really
- [00:13:41.380]excited about that. Um,
- [00:13:43.160]as far as like Monday dress
- [00:13:45.540]code, whatever you're
- [00:13:48.090]comfortable in, uh, you will be
- [00:13:50.190]walking around,
- [00:13:50.880]you'll be doing like the scavenger
- [00:13:51.950]hunt. So if it's hot outside,
- [00:13:53.140]definitely keep that in mind.
- [00:13:54.820]You'll be outside. Um, I would
- [00:13:56.560]say really, I'm not here to
- [00:13:58.350]police
- [00:13:58.900]clothes. Y'all wear what's
- [00:14:00.410]comfortable to you. Just be
- [00:14:02.190]respectful of other people in
- [00:14:03.430]terms of,
- [00:14:04.080]um, like if there's words or
- [00:14:05.920]pictures or something, um, yeah,
- [00:14:08.850]Tuesday, just a reminder.
- [00:14:10.240]You have to wear the closed toed
- [00:14:11.400]shoes, comfortable clothes. And
- [00:14:12.800]then Wednesday,
- [00:14:13.480]um, is going to be your polo
- [00:14:15.090]and then like jeans or khakis.
- [00:14:17.070]We will be inside all day,
- [00:14:19.000]other than the ice cream social.
- [00:14:20.880]So, um, you'll be in air
- [00:14:22.250]conditioning.
- [00:14:23.120]And you'll have a chance to be
- [00:14:24.380]inside for the ice cream social.
- [00:14:26.020]The truck will be outside,
- [00:14:26.840]but you could go get your ice
- [00:14:28.090]cream, come back inside. Um,
- [00:14:29.620]okay. I'm going to stop sharing
- [00:14:31.180]that
- [00:14:31.400]so I can see everyone again,
- [00:14:33.460]questions or team. Are there
- [00:14:35.530]things I forgot?
- [00:14:36.940]I would say if you're worried
- [00:14:40.170]about dietary concerns, I know
- [00:14:43.820]when you, um, uh, uh,
- [00:14:47.480]completed your like agreement
- [00:14:49.360]to join the program, we did get
- [00:14:51.200]like your dietary,
- [00:14:53.100]um, no like dietary
- [00:14:54.290]restrictions or allergies noted.
- [00:14:56.600]Um, but if they've changed,
- [00:14:58.380]cause life
- [00:14:58.900]happens, um, if they've changed
- [00:15:00.380]or anything like that, please
- [00:15:01.730]let us know so we can make sure
- [00:15:02.960]we,
- [00:15:03.280]um, get accommodations for
- [00:15:05.360]Wednesday meals. Um, and the
- [00:15:07.510]ice cream there for the ice
- [00:15:09.350]cream truck,
- [00:15:10.080]there are vegan and dairy free.
- [00:15:12.150]Well, that's the same thing. Um,
- [00:15:14.740]vegan and gluten-free options,
- [00:15:16.640]um, that they will provide for
- [00:15:18.250]you. Um, or you don't have to
- [00:15:19.940]eat it at all if you don't want
- [00:15:21.260]to.
- [00:15:21.740]Um, but.
- [00:15:23.080]You just want to make sure you
- [00:15:24.190]have options. But that's kind
- [00:15:26.900]of the mind-beak thing with
- [00:15:28.460]the Campus Radiance Retreat.
- [00:15:29.560]We don't do breakfast. Um, so
- [00:15:32.670]breakfast will be on your own,
- [00:15:35.030]but I will say, um, at Carol
- [00:15:36.460]Joy
- [00:15:36.660]Hauling on Tuesday, they have a
- [00:15:38.460]snack room. Um, and we, as long
- [00:15:40.390]as everyone's on time,
- [00:15:41.900]we'll get there early enough
- [00:15:43.250]that you can get settled. You
- [00:15:44.440]can go get some snacks. Um, and
- [00:15:46.400]it's a pretty legit snack room.
- [00:15:47.850]Um, and they've got like pop
- [00:15:49.120]and water and a bunch of
- [00:15:50.110]different
- [00:15:50.700]beverages. I think they have a
- [00:15:52.150]coffee machine and like, you
- [00:15:53.060]know, you can get a cup of
- [00:15:53.060]coffee
- [00:15:53.060]and like some juice and, um,
- [00:15:54.630]things. So you'll have access
- [00:15:56.330]to that on Tuesday, uh,
- [00:15:58.230]throughout the
- [00:15:58.600]day. Um, yeah. Yeah. And, uh, Kiewit
- [00:16:04.330]Cafe should be open, um, which
- [00:16:06.900]is a dining option for you on
- [00:16:09.580]Tuesday morning before you get
- [00:16:12.000]on the bus, um, or on Wednesday,
- [00:16:14.650]um, while we have breaks and
- [00:16:16.960]stuff. So they have coffee,
- [00:16:18.780]smoothies, um, some other
- [00:16:20.460]breakfast kind of foods. Um, so
- [00:16:22.500]that is
- [00:16:23.040]always an extra option if you
- [00:16:24.420]want that. And you can use your
- [00:16:25.960]meal plan there. If you are a
- [00:16:27.380]UNL
- [00:16:27.700]student, UNL students, you
- [00:16:29.360]would need to bring your own
- [00:16:30.910]cash money separately or pay
- [00:16:32.530]with a
- [00:16:32.960]credit card. I don't know if
- [00:16:36.140]for Monday, if Scott Cafe and Kiewit
- [00:16:40.080]or in PKI will be open. Um,
- [00:16:43.960]I haven't seen any updates on
- [00:16:45.640]it. I'll be honest. Maybe it
- [00:16:47.530]has been. Do you recall, Janine?
- [00:16:49.800]I'm thinking it was.
- [00:16:53.020]It was. Lauren, you guys, do
- [00:16:54.370]you remember? Or was it open
- [00:16:55.620]when you guys were going
- [00:16:56.650]through your?
- [00:16:57.280]We'll look into it.
- [00:17:02.680]Yeah. For some reason, I'm
- [00:17:04.290]thinking it was open for
- [00:17:05.650]breakfast, but now,
- [00:17:06.860]now that you asked me, I'm not
- [00:17:08.270]exactly sure.
- [00:17:09.140]Yeah. And for the Omaha people,
- [00:17:11.870]we live right next to Exarbon
- [00:17:14.140]too. So if any of you want to
- [00:17:16.480]go and grab breakfast together
- [00:17:18.430]down there, we can for sure do
- [00:17:19.990]that as well.
- [00:17:20.920]Yeah. There's two coffee shops
- [00:17:22.380]nowadays.
- [00:17:23.000]Down there too. So, um, it's
- [00:17:24.900]easy enough to grab a muffin or
- [00:17:26.300]something or a breakfast
- [00:17:27.440]sandwich and
- [00:17:28.080]coffee.
- [00:17:28.800]Awesome. Anyone else have any
- [00:17:33.990]questions about the campus
- [00:17:35.990]readiness retreat, CRR?
- [00:17:38.480]What are we catering in on
- [00:17:40.210]Wednesday?
- [00:17:41.200]Um, I believe we're doing
- [00:17:43.190]Sultan's Kite. So it's
- [00:17:45.090]Mediterranean. Um, so it'd be
- [00:17:47.640]like rice, pitas,
- [00:17:49.360]um, falafel, uh, chicken,
- [00:17:52.980]gyro, salad, and, uh, baklava.
- [00:17:59.640]Yeah.
- [00:18:02.260]Um, are we required to like
- [00:18:04.480]fully move in and have
- [00:18:06.290]everything set up before the
- [00:18:08.570]retreat?
- [00:18:09.660]Um, no. Um, as long as you're
- [00:18:14.210]at the retreat, um, when and
- [00:18:18.190]how you move in is totally up
- [00:18:19.930]to you.
- [00:18:20.700]Um, yeah.
- [00:18:22.980]I mean, I would, I know, uh, I
- [00:18:25.680]would encourage you to get as
- [00:18:26.740]much moved in as possible. I
- [00:18:27.980]know,
- [00:18:28.200]like for you example, like home
- [00:18:30.470]is in Omaha and I have a bed in
- [00:18:32.400]this place also in Omaha.
- [00:18:34.420]So I think bring whatever you
- [00:18:36.100]need to like get started, but
- [00:18:37.850]like, it does help that you
- [00:18:39.400]have
- [00:18:39.580]the benefit of being able to
- [00:18:41.040]like sneak back home and come
- [00:18:42.200]back, but not everyone has that
- [00:18:43.820]option.
- [00:18:44.100]So I would say like move in and
- [00:18:46.030]be prepared as much as you are
- [00:18:47.960]ready to be moved in,
- [00:18:49.520]if that makes sense.
- [00:18:52.980]Um, I think I emailed you
- [00:18:56.220]personally about this, uh, for
- [00:18:59.350]Bandcamp.
- [00:19:03.060]Oh, and I forwarded it to Aaron.
- [00:19:05.120]Yes. Did I respond?
- [00:19:06.880]I believe you sent me a
- [00:19:08.580]schedule. I was just making, I
- [00:19:10.660]just wanted to make sure like
- [00:19:11.980]the key, like things I need to
- [00:19:13.740]show up for just in case if
- [00:19:15.200]things fall a little weird with
- [00:19:17.050]Bandcamp.
- [00:19:17.860]Yes. Um, so that's a good
- [00:19:20.670]reminder. Thanks Stix. Um,
- [00:19:22.860]I think I emailed you
- [00:19:22.870]personally about this, uh, for
- [00:19:22.880]Bandcamp. Oh, and I forwarded
- [00:19:22.960]it to Aaron. Yes. Did I respond?
- [00:19:22.960]Yeah. If you are planning on
- [00:19:24.580]trying to like, if you're
- [00:19:26.250]trying out for the marching
- [00:19:27.570]band,
- [00:19:27.960]um, or want to go through rush
- [00:19:30.200]or anything like that, send me
- [00:19:32.550]an email and I'll send you,
- [00:19:34.660]um, a schedule obviously for
- [00:19:36.640]the general population. We want
- [00:19:39.440]everyone to be there for
- [00:19:41.140]the whole CRR, but we know that
- [00:19:42.870]there are some things that
- [00:19:44.350]happen at the same time.
- [00:19:45.940]So I can send you kind of a
- [00:19:48.370]modified, um, modified schedule,
- [00:19:51.790]um, that kind of
- [00:19:52.940]shows, okay, these are things
- [00:19:54.230]that we really, really, really
- [00:19:55.470]want you to be at. Um, and I'll,
- [00:19:58.220]I'll work with you. Like if
- [00:19:59.230]there's things that you're like,
- [00:20:00.480]Ooh, can I be there instead of
- [00:20:01.560]here?
- [00:20:02.000]Um, but some of it, if there
- [00:20:04.500]are pieces like the peer mentor
- [00:20:07.250]speed matching or, um,
- [00:20:10.180]like the expectations or the
- [00:20:12.130]headshots, things like that. Um,
- [00:20:14.800]some of those are just harder
- [00:20:15.740]to recreate outside of CRR. Um,
- [00:20:18.640]but yes. Um, yeah. Send me an
- [00:20:21.620]email. Let me know.
- [00:20:22.920]Um, and then we'll have you
- [00:20:24.760]work with the other offices too.
- [00:20:27.080]So like you would work with
- [00:20:28.400]Greek
- [00:20:28.600]life or the band and kind of
- [00:20:29.950]say, Hey, um, what does this
- [00:20:31.720]need to look like? And then I
- [00:20:33.080]can help
- [00:20:34.140]from there. Other questions can
- [00:20:39.080]be, um, okay. So about parking
- [00:20:46.060]passes, if you like recommend
- [00:20:52.320]us
- [00:20:52.900]getting a parking pass, where
- [00:20:54.520]would you like get it? Do you
- [00:20:56.080]like get an all parking pass or
- [00:20:57.720]just
- [00:20:58.080]for near your dorm? Cause you're,
- [00:20:59.550]you're going to like walk to
- [00:21:00.620]your classes or something.
- [00:21:01.980]I'm actually going to let a UNO
- [00:21:04.440]student respond to this or Janine
- [00:21:07.280]about parking. Um, since your
- [00:21:09.800]parking is a little bit
- [00:21:11.210]different. Yeah. One of my, one
- [00:21:13.530]of my people, one of my peeps
- [00:21:15.760]want to
- [00:21:16.420]respond. So since you're in
- [00:21:18.330]Scott crossing for that, you're
- [00:21:20.480]required to buy the garage
- [00:21:22.880]on Scott campus. And
- [00:21:24.070]technically that's the only
- [00:21:24.930]place you're allowed to park.
- [00:21:26.310]So it's kind of
- [00:21:28.280]annoying your first year, uh,
- [00:21:30.510]just cause you'll have more
- [00:21:32.710]classes up on Dodge, but there's
- [00:21:34.130]also
- [00:21:34.300]a good shuttle system, but yeah,
- [00:21:36.970]you'll buy the Scott garage
- [00:21:38.850]pass. I'm not sure what the
- [00:21:41.220]exact
- [00:21:41.500]words are, but it's something
- [00:21:42.410]like that. Thanks.
- [00:21:44.680]I will say a word of caution.
- [00:21:47.290]They do give parking tickets
- [00:21:49.860]and we've seen parking tickets
- [00:21:52.860]rack up very quickly. Um,
- [00:21:55.650]especially in Omaha with that
- [00:21:57.380]Dodge Scott campus thing. It is
- [00:22:00.330]annoying.
- [00:22:00.660]I don't know why, but, um, they
- [00:22:02.730]apparently have very good
- [00:22:04.120]parking monitors. Let's just
- [00:22:05.990]say that.
- [00:22:06.760]And I, and I see all of those
- [00:22:08.730]tickets come through. So I will
- [00:22:11.160]send you a warning and be like,
- [00:22:13.160]please figure this out and stop
- [00:22:14.800]getting tickets. Cause you are
- [00:22:16.590]out lots of money.
- [00:22:18.260]And we can't cover those with
- [00:22:19.840]the scholarship, unfortunately.
- [00:22:22.840]Yeah. And they can be other
- [00:22:26.560]general questions too. If you
- [00:22:30.880]have questions about the
- [00:22:33.120]scholarship or,
- [00:22:34.420]um, and, and we will try to, um,
- [00:22:37.610]when, during the campus
- [00:22:40.960]readiness retreat, we'll try,
- [00:22:42.940]we're going to, we're working
- [00:22:44.570]on setting all the dates for
- [00:22:46.030]things this fall right now. So
- [00:22:48.000]that should be finalized. So
- [00:22:49.570]you'll get a, a schedule of all
- [00:22:51.180]of the PKF events. So you can
- [00:22:52.820]get those on your calendar. Um,
- [00:22:55.030]we do ask since we, we try to
- [00:22:56.800]give you a lot of warning that
- [00:22:58.420]that
- [00:22:58.600]gets prioritized over like part-time
- [00:23:00.440]jobs or things like that. Now,
- [00:23:02.040]obviously if you have a
- [00:23:03.460]class or a test that's
- [00:23:05.380]scheduled outside of a class
- [00:23:07.630]time, fully understand. Um, so
- [00:23:10.810]we'll try
- [00:23:11.320]to do our best to work around
- [00:23:12.810]those, um, or excuse you from
- [00:23:14.490]the activities if needed. But,
- [00:23:16.420]um, yeah, we try to give you
- [00:23:18.730]lots of heads ups that way, if
- [00:23:20.530]you need to ask for it off at
- [00:23:22.380]work,
- [00:23:22.800]um, you have time to do that.
- [00:23:24.500]Okay. So I have a question. Can
- [00:23:28.270]you like change majors as long
- [00:23:31.450]as it's within engineering?
- [00:23:34.940]Yes. Yep. Um, I don't know what
- [00:23:37.860]the actual statistic is anymore.
- [00:23:40.350]I know it used to be
- [00:23:41.800]around 50%. I don't know if
- [00:23:43.400]that's what it actually is. Um,
- [00:23:45.210]but a good number of people
- [00:23:46.420]change majors within
- [00:23:47.610]engineering, um, kind of as one
- [00:23:49.400]of those, like, as you get to
- [00:23:51.010]know what classes
- [00:23:52.780]you get to explore different
- [00:23:53.990]majors, they might add majors
- [00:23:55.310]like robotics is new and data
- [00:23:56.500]science
- [00:23:56.940]is pretty new. And, um, so yeah,
- [00:23:59.260]totally fine. If you change
- [00:24:00.340]majors, um, that's something
- [00:24:02.160]you can work with your success
- [00:24:03.710]coach on, but then also we'll
- [00:24:05.240]have you work with your advisor.
- [00:24:07.140]Um, if you know that you're
- [00:24:08.900]kind of in between majors, that's
- [00:24:11.140]something you can talk with
- [00:24:12.930]your
- [00:24:13.420]advisor about, and they'll make
- [00:24:14.930]sure like if there's maybe some
- [00:24:16.240]electives or something that
- [00:24:17.620]they could steer you toward, um,
- [00:24:19.400]to help either make that
- [00:24:20.680]decision or to help set you up.
- [00:24:22.290]So that
- [00:24:22.680]way you can work with your
- [00:24:22.680]success coach. Um, and then
- [00:24:22.680]also we'll have you work with
- [00:24:22.760]your
- [00:24:22.760]advisor about how you're not
- [00:24:24.270]behind in either of the tracks.
- [00:24:26.060]Um, but yeah, totally fine. And
- [00:24:27.940]within the scholarship, no
- [00:24:29.190]worries. We just need to let
- [00:24:30.150]Maggie know so she can update
- [00:24:31.220]the website.
- [00:24:31.940]All right. Thank you. Yeah.
- [00:24:34.040]Other questions.
- [00:24:40.340]Okay. Um, if there are no other
- [00:24:46.860]questions, I have a couple of
- [00:24:48.830]last minute reminders for folks.
- [00:24:51.170]Um,
- [00:24:52.740]first being submit your
- [00:24:54.730]permission slip forms to me via
- [00:24:57.180]email, um, or you need to bring
- [00:24:59.490]them on
- [00:25:00.220]August 17th. That is the due
- [00:25:02.170]date and we need them for camp
- [00:25:03.820]and for your image release form.
- [00:25:05.880]Uh, and you do have to have a
- [00:25:07.330]parent signature cause I don't
- [00:25:08.980]believe any of you are, um, of
- [00:25:12.000]legal age in the state of
- [00:25:13.320]Nebraska yet. Uh, and the camp
- [00:25:15.220]makes you sign the way,
- [00:25:16.620]have a parent sign the waiver
- [00:25:18.320]form, even if you are 19. So
- [00:25:20.360]fun facts. Um, so that needs to
- [00:25:22.340]be
- [00:25:22.600]completed by August 17th. Um, I
- [00:25:25.170]know I've gotten, uh, I think
- [00:25:27.400]about 13 back, so we're missing
- [00:25:29.300]quite
- [00:25:29.540]a few. So please get on top of
- [00:25:31.580]that. Um, and if you have any
- [00:25:33.620]issues with sending those forms
- [00:25:35.780]to
- [00:25:36.040]me, just let me know. Um, we
- [00:25:37.640]can find a different format, um,
- [00:25:39.460]to get the form signed. Um, and
- [00:25:42.460]then
- [00:25:42.660]if you have not done so already,
- [00:25:44.430]you should claim your campus
- [00:25:46.020]email. Um, all of you have gone
- [00:25:47.940]through advising and done
- [00:25:49.400]orientation now, so you should
- [00:25:50.950]have access. So make sure to
- [00:25:52.580]get that email claimed because
- [00:25:54.630]starting next Monday, um, we
- [00:25:56.870]are going to be sending out our,
- [00:25:58.960]um, bi-weekly newsletter, um,
- [00:26:00.990]which is where we do a lot of
- [00:26:02.530]updates and information and
- [00:26:04.760]reminders
- [00:26:05.260]about events and things. Um, so
- [00:26:07.290]we will be sending that to your
- [00:26:09.170]campus email. Um, for the first
- [00:26:11.100]one,
- [00:26:11.480]I will probably send it to your
- [00:26:12.780]personal email as well, but we
- [00:26:14.120]really want you to start
- [00:26:15.150]checking
- [00:26:15.680]that campus email because the
- [00:26:17.600]universities are going to start
- [00:26:18.810]sending you a lot of
- [00:26:19.770]information,
- [00:26:20.520]uh, over the next month.
- [00:26:22.440]Um, so it's important to start
- [00:26:23.750]checking that, um, pretty much
- [00:26:25.170]on a daily basis.
- [00:26:26.080]Uh, and the first one will be
- [00:26:28.380]kind of like a summer recap
- [00:26:30.560]about like things that happened
- [00:26:32.100]this summer. Um, kind of doing
- [00:26:33.700]a like, hey, welcome, you're
- [00:26:35.230]all here. Um, and then some
- [00:26:37.280]updates for the upperclassmen
- [00:26:39.190]students. And then on August 18th,
- [00:26:41.940]while we are, um, doing our
- [00:26:43.740]readiness retreat, we will send
- [00:26:45.690]kind of two newsletters. One
- [00:26:47.370]will be, uh, an opportunity
- [00:26:49.160]for upperclassmen and PKF to
- [00:26:50.930]highlight their,
- [00:26:52.300]um, student orgs that they're
- [00:26:53.780]in or their internships,
- [00:26:55.120]research, and that kind of
- [00:26:56.360]stuff,
- [00:26:56.560]just so you all as new students
- [00:26:57.980]can see what opportunities are
- [00:26:59.480]out there that you may want to
- [00:27:01.020]join. Um, and then, uh, we will
- [00:27:03.260]also send another one with just
- [00:27:05.210]kind of general updates, um,
- [00:27:07.240]the
- [00:27:07.480]pretty traditional ones. So be
- [00:27:09.930]on the lookout for those. Uh,
- [00:27:12.280]other than that, that's kind of
- [00:27:14.770]all I
- [00:27:15.340]have, uh, for you this evening.
- [00:27:17.650]I know we finished early, so we
- [00:27:19.650]do love that. Um, but any
- [00:27:22.160]last minute opportunity
- [00:27:23.910]questions, comments, concerns.
- [00:27:26.770]Okay.
- [00:27:29.560]We can sit here and hang out as
- [00:27:30.920]people are leaving. If you don't
- [00:27:32.590]want to ask in front
- [00:27:33.660]of the group, we can hang out
- [00:27:35.150]for like another 30 seconds or
- [00:27:37.020]so after.
- [00:27:37.680]Yeah. I do have a question. If
- [00:27:40.670]the Sunday the 17th doesn't
- [00:27:42.350]work out for moving,
- [00:27:43.660]is it possible to change that?
- [00:27:45.020]Uh, go ahead, Erin.
- [00:27:52.020]Actually, no more Maggie having
- [00:27:53.830]housing.
- [00:27:54.080]Yeah. Um, so are you going to
- [00:27:55.920]try and do you want to try and
- [00:27:57.540]move in like a day or two
- [00:27:59.270]earlier? So
- [00:27:59.860]the earliest in Lincoln you can
- [00:28:02.140]move in is August 14th. Um, uh,
- [00:28:05.030]so that is an option. So if
- [00:28:07.380]that's
- [00:28:07.940]kind of like the boat you're in,
- [00:28:09.680]um, just let me know. Cause I
- [00:28:11.350]can work with housing to try
- [00:28:12.910]and
- [00:28:13.120]get that set up. Um, cause I
- [00:28:14.770]need to always send them an
- [00:28:16.240]updated list of who's moving in
- [00:28:17.970]early.
- [00:28:18.620]Um, but if you are in Omaha,
- [00:28:20.210]the earliest you can move in,
- [00:28:21.880]is August 17th. We can't really,
- [00:28:24.290]um, change that. So if you feel
- [00:28:26.280]like you can't move in
- [00:28:27.720]early, um, then we would try
- [00:28:30.240]and make sure that you at least
- [00:28:32.720]can move in after the CRR on
- [00:28:36.040]the
- [00:28:36.280]first day. Um, so moving in
- [00:28:39.060]after five o'clock, um, into
- [00:28:41.880]your dorm.
- [00:28:43.120]Um, I do know if you, if you do
- [00:28:45.540]the, like after 5.00 PM move in,
- [00:28:48.930]um, so if you move in, not on
- [00:28:51.220]your
- [00:28:51.740]assigned day, you do miss the
- [00:28:53.160]opportunity to use the movers.
- [00:28:54.810]You have to move everything
- [00:28:56.040]yourself.
- [00:28:56.520]Yeah. And the same is if you
- [00:28:57.860]move in before the 17th, you
- [00:28:59.430]won't have access to the movers.
- [00:29:01.040]So
- [00:29:01.280]you do have to move in
- [00:29:02.040]everything yourself, but there
- [00:29:03.290]are carts and things available.
- [00:29:04.660]And we've had people like peer
- [00:29:06.020]mentors have helped students
- [00:29:07.430]that have had, like, we've had
- [00:29:08.630]someone
- [00:29:09.000]that had to move in on Monday.
- [00:29:10.420]Um, and like all the peer
