[00:00:07.700]Yes, wheat harvest is just
[00:00:09.410]really heating up in the
[00:00:10.930]southern panhandle right now,
[00:00:12.800]across the whole southern panhandle.
[00:00:14.400]And I would say for most
[00:00:16.110]growers, it's spotty.
[00:00:18.100]There's some fields that are
[00:00:19.910]dry enough to harvest and
[00:00:21.690]others are not,
[00:00:22.720]so they're having to jump
[00:00:24.030]around a little bit to find
[00:00:25.790]fields that are ready to
[00:00:26.660]harvest.
[00:00:27.800]Most of that goes back to last
[00:00:29.170]fall where we had a really dry
[00:00:30.530]fall.
[00:00:31.000]A lot of the wheat came up late
[00:00:33.080]or was highly variable in its
[00:00:35.180]emergence.
[00:00:36.320]We just didn't have a uniform
[00:00:38.560]dry down this summer,
[00:00:40.460]which is causing some headaches
[00:00:42.420]as we have to jump from field
[00:00:44.070]to field
[00:00:44.660]just to find a place to harvest.
[00:00:45.900]But overall, it's starting to
[00:00:48.110]really pick up this week,
[00:00:49.860]and we'll look to see it move
[00:00:51.470]north through the panhandle
[00:00:52.990]throughout this week.
[00:00:54.480]Well, we didn't have enough
[00:00:55.870]rain for this year's wheat crop.
[00:00:57.600]Creech says for the upcoming
[00:00:58.810]planting season...
[00:01:00.020]Any moisture is going to help,
[00:01:01.390]especially if we have fields
[00:01:02.940]that are fallow right now.
[00:01:04.420]These rains are helping to
[00:01:05.900]recharge that soil profile with
[00:01:07.720]moisture,
[00:01:08.440]so it's really setting us up in
[00:01:10.120]a good place for next year.
[00:01:11.640]It just simply came too late to
[00:01:13.400]be of much help for this year's
[00:01:15.150]crop.
[00:01:15.740]Creech says some fields were
[00:01:17.240]abandoned this year,
[00:01:18.500]and yield-wise, the crop is
[00:01:20.090]likely to be average for the
[00:01:21.620]area.
