- [00:00:00.000]But let's get started with our
- [00:00:04.200]FYRE program.
- [00:00:06.440]So this is an application
- [00:00:08.100]workshop, essentially.
- [00:00:09.640]So we will talk about what FYRE
- [00:00:11.910]is.
- [00:00:12.400]I'm sure you're becoming more
- [00:00:13.740]and more familiar with more and
- [00:00:15.920]more acronyms here at UNL.
- [00:00:18.760]So FYRE is, well, my personal
- [00:00:20.740]favorite one, because it's the
- [00:00:22.810]first year research experience.
- [00:00:25.540]And it represents students who
- [00:00:28.350]participate in a program that
- [00:00:31.010]promotes research in their
- [00:00:32.320]first year of studies.
- [00:00:34.020]But it is coordinated by us,
- [00:00:35.990]the Office of Undergraduate
- [00:00:37.970]Research and Fellowships.
- [00:00:40.140]So we try to create connections
- [00:00:42.770]across the campus.
- [00:00:44.660]So it's not just, I should go
- [00:00:46.840]into slideshow mode, sorry.
- [00:00:49.380]So there are three of us in the
- [00:00:51.100]department.
- [00:00:52.100]So Courtney SantOs, who is also
- [00:00:53.960]here today, is our director.
- [00:00:55.540]And she's our lead advisor.
- [00:00:57.180]And she's the person who has an
- [00:00:58.940]overview of all of our programs.
- [00:01:01.100]Kali Patterson, who's not here
- [00:01:02.340]today, but she's the project
- [00:01:03.490]coordinator and lead advisor.
- [00:01:06.020]And she specifically
- [00:01:08.030]coordinates UCARE, which is
- [00:01:09.360]another very interesting
- [00:01:11.190]program that we'll
- [00:01:12.300]talk about a little bit later.
- [00:01:14.440]And you can also do some
- [00:01:16.280]research on it online.
- [00:01:18.420]And then there's me, Ioana.
- [00:01:20.640]And I'm the graduate assistant
- [00:01:22.240]here at FYRE.
- [00:01:23.080]This is my second year.
- [00:01:24.020]I'm also a graduate assistant.
- [00:01:25.020]I'm also a fellowships advisor
- [00:01:27.020]and the lead advisor for FYRE.
- [00:01:28.840]So you will have to interact
- [00:01:30.490]with me quite a bit if you are
- [00:01:33.000]selected to be part of FYRE.
- [00:01:35.880]I'm also a master's student.
- [00:01:38.400]So I'm doing my master's in
- [00:01:39.650]educational administration and
- [00:01:41.490]student affairs.
- [00:01:43.180]My background is in English and
- [00:01:44.760]American studies.
- [00:01:45.900]And I'm originally from Greece.
- [00:01:48.260]I've studied in different
- [00:01:49.470]places, in Germany, in Austria,
- [00:01:51.340]and before coming to UNL,
- [00:01:54.500]I was at OSU.
- [00:01:56.320]I was working there as a
- [00:01:58.140]lecturer.
- [00:01:59.160]And so for the past, well, one
- [00:02:01.760]and a half years, I've been
- [00:02:04.080]here at UNL working with
- [00:02:05.640]Courtney and Kali.
- [00:02:07.440]So we are the Office of Undergraduate
- [00:02:09.340]Research and Fellowships.
- [00:02:10.860]You can check out our website
- [00:02:13.350]over here at URAF.UNL.edu.
- [00:02:16.420]And we are your people when it
- [00:02:18.500]comes to applying for FYRE and
- [00:02:20.680]becoming part of FYRE.
- [00:02:22.620]But...
- [00:02:23.620]Okay.
- [00:02:24.500]So once again, the program is
- [00:02:27.760]based on what you want to do
- [00:02:30.610]and on your project.
- [00:02:33.120]So these are some of our FYRE
- [00:02:36.330]students from this past year.
- [00:02:40.040]From the first one, you can see
- [00:02:42.760]some students in our workshop,
- [00:02:45.540]and then you can see students
- [00:02:47.860]who are conducting research in
- [00:02:50.160]labs or in different formats.
- [00:02:52.620]I'm trying to see.
- [00:02:53.980]Okay.
- [00:02:54.500]And then we have some of our
- [00:02:56.410]students who are part of the
- [00:02:58.250]teaching, learning and teacher
- [00:02:59.560]education, and some of our
- [00:03:01.250]students who are more in a lab-based
- [00:03:03.450]project.
- [00:03:04.280]So FIRE covers different kinds
- [00:03:06.500]of projects.
- [00:03:07.640]I have a list of those projects
- [00:03:10.290]right here for you.
- [00:03:11.960]So you can take a look.
- [00:03:12.960]And this is just a selection, I
- [00:03:15.080]have to say, because we have
- [00:03:17.030]dozens of projects every year.
- [00:03:20.620]But you can see that projects
- [00:03:21.850]range from the School of Global
- [00:03:23.120]Integrated Learning to the
- [00:03:24.300]School of Creative Studies, to
- [00:03:25.950]Entomology, to Teaching,
- [00:03:27.400]Learning and Teacher Education,
- [00:03:29.200]to the School of Biological
- [00:03:30.920]Sciences, Department of
- [00:03:32.580]Communication Studies, the
- [00:03:34.440]Nebraska Center
- [00:03:35.060]for Virology.
- [00:03:36.920]So you have all sorts of
- [00:03:38.720]projects and we're open to new
- [00:03:41.390]projects always.
- [00:03:42.800]So as long as, you know, there's
- [00:03:45.300]a place for you here at UNL,
- [00:03:47.200]there is a project here for
- [00:03:49.160]you at FIRE as well.
- [00:03:52.400]So what is FIRE?
- [00:03:54.100]FIRE is essentially an
- [00:03:55.320]opportunity for first year
- [00:03:56.800]college students to work on a
- [00:03:58.350]research
- [00:03:58.920]or a creative project under the
- [00:04:00.950]guidance and supervision of a
- [00:04:02.920]faculty mentor.
- [00:04:04.240]So this, of course, project
- [00:04:06.900]should be something that is
- [00:04:09.150]supported by a FIRE mentor who
- [00:04:11.840]is
- [00:04:12.000]here to guide you.
- [00:04:14.800]You can, because I'm assuming
- [00:04:16.960]you have some questions about
- [00:04:19.040]this, so we can hold on to
- [00:04:20.880]those for later.
- [00:04:22.460]But we...
- [00:04:23.900]We can essentially match you
- [00:04:25.450]with a mentor who can support
- [00:04:27.270]your project, right?
- [00:04:28.460]Their project and vice versa.
- [00:04:31.700]Some of the key features of FYRE
- [00:04:34.320]is that you need to be involved
- [00:04:36.870]for from five until up
- [00:04:38.780]to 10 hours per week during the
- [00:04:41.900]academic year.
- [00:04:43.460]And this can really range from,
- [00:04:45.780]you know, only five hours the
- [00:04:47.970]first week to 10 hours
- [00:04:49.920]when you have some extra time
- [00:04:51.870]or when you have exams.
- [00:04:53.700]You cannot even make, like,
- [00:04:55.370]five hours, and that's okay,
- [00:04:57.110]right, because you're prioritizing
- [00:04:59.320]your studies.
- [00:05:00.320]You're here as a UNL student
- [00:05:01.530]and, of course, you're here as
- [00:05:02.940]a FYRE student.
- [00:05:03.860]Those two go together.
- [00:05:05.620]But what we want you to think
- [00:05:07.450]about, like, and prioritize
- [00:05:09.490]mostly is your studies.
- [00:05:11.300]So if you can make five hours
- [00:05:13.660]of work on one week, then try
- [00:05:16.130]and catch up and do some more
- [00:05:18.500]hours the week after or
- [00:05:21.100]something.
- [00:05:22.500]FIRE is paid.
- [00:05:23.500]So if you want to make five
- [00:05:24.340]hours of work on one week, then
- [00:05:25.380]try and catch up and do some
- [00:05:28.220]more hours the week after.
- [00:05:29.220]So if you want to make five
- [00:05:29.530]hours of work on one week, then
- [00:05:29.910]try and catch up and do some
- [00:05:30.220]more hours the week after.
- [00:05:31.220]So if you can make five hours
- [00:05:31.510]of work on one week, then try
- [00:05:31.840]and catch up and do some more
- [00:05:32.220]hours the week after.
- [00:05:33.220]So if you can make five hours
- [00:05:33.530]of work on one week, then try
- [00:05:33.800]and catch up and do some more
- [00:05:34.220]hours the week after.
- [00:05:35.220]So if you can make five hours
- [00:05:35.510]of work on one week, then try
- [00:05:35.800]and catch up and do some more
- [00:05:36.220]hours the week after.
- [00:05:37.220]So if you can make five hours
- [00:05:37.510]of work on one week, then try
- [00:05:37.800]and catch up and do some more
- [00:05:38.220]hours the week after.
- [00:05:39.220]So if you can make five hours
- [00:05:39.580]of work on one week, then try
- [00:05:39.900]and catch up and do some more
- [00:05:40.220]hours the week after.
- [00:05:41.220]conducting research on but you're
- [00:05:43.350]also being provided
- [00:05:44.680]opportunities to present
- [00:05:46.320]your projects to talk about
- [00:05:49.140]your project with other with
- [00:05:52.070]peers so it's a really a
- [00:05:54.460]program that builds your career
- [00:05:56.840]skills your professional skills
- [00:05:59.610]your
- [00:05:59.720]communication skills and so on
- [00:06:02.710]and Courtney was just setting
- [00:06:05.170]some events in
- [00:06:06.360]our chat sorry I just saw the
- [00:06:08.240]notification so please do also
- [00:06:10.280]check
- [00:06:10.740]check those events out so why
- [00:06:14.320]would you why should you join FHIR
- [00:06:16.680]right well
- [00:06:18.000]there's many reasons right
- [00:06:19.420]since you're here already I
- [00:06:20.870]think you know a little
- [00:06:21.840]bit about FYRE but we can talk
- [00:06:23.930]about more about how you can
- [00:06:25.810]contribute to
- [00:06:27.120]real-world research like your
- [00:06:29.020]match to projects that are
- [00:06:30.630]already happening that
- [00:06:32.580]have already received some kind
- [00:06:34.340]of funding that I already
- [00:06:35.760]supported
- [00:06:36.340]by professor by faculty mentor
- [00:06:39.210]who may also have a like a
- [00:06:41.430]research group right
- [00:06:43.060]in so many cases so there's
- [00:06:45.250]other researchers just like you
- [00:06:47.030]or more
- [00:06:47.580]advanced who are there to
- [00:06:49.690]support you and they're also
- [00:06:51.410]learning through this
- [00:06:52.540]program right and with FHIR you
- [00:06:56.840]can build your career-ready
- [00:06:58.300]skills like we
- [00:06:59.340]do a lot of writing workshops
- [00:07:01.040]problem-solving workshops
- [00:07:02.670]networking
- [00:07:03.280]you're already part of FYRE
- [00:07:05.230]once you're in the program
- [00:07:06.320]like you're part of a network
- [00:07:08.220]so you're connected with your
- [00:07:09.990]peers and you meet
- [00:07:12.020]with them quite regularly and
- [00:07:14.290]then you you can get to create
- [00:07:16.460]some kind of you
- [00:07:18.060]know group within UNL that you
- [00:07:20.170]can understand each other and
- [00:07:22.130]interact on a
- [00:07:23.060]daily basis almost if you want
- [00:07:25.190]to right connect with faculty
- [00:07:27.470]researchers and
- [00:07:28.460]peers as I said you're
- [00:07:29.900]supported by faculty
- [00:07:31.420]mentor but this faculty mentor
- [00:07:33.970]usually has a group of other
- [00:07:36.300]students especially when you're
- [00:07:38.370]working in lab right so there
- [00:07:41.030]you have for
- [00:07:41.880]example grad student graduate
- [00:07:43.210]students who are there to
- [00:07:44.420]support you and to add
- [00:07:45.420]to add to the FHIR experience
- [00:07:47.160]and you have your peers as well
- [00:07:48.940]we're going
- [00:07:49.740]through this process as a first-year
- [00:07:52.250]student together so we connect
- [00:07:54.450]you
- [00:07:54.660]through our workshops as well
- [00:07:57.430]so by interacting with all
- [00:07:59.480]these people you
- [00:08:00.560]can also explore a grad school
- [00:08:02.880]and future careers we provide
- [00:08:05.200]usually we have
- [00:08:06.280]a workshop that talks about you
- [00:08:08.100]know what's after FYRE although
- [00:08:10.110]you're still
- [00:08:10.820]in FYRE so we we can get to
- [00:08:12.120]give you provide you with
- [00:08:13.550]opportunities such as
- [00:08:14.740]grad school options
- [00:08:16.620]opportunities and also connect
- [00:08:18.460]you with grad students
- [00:08:19.840]through the through your lab or
- [00:08:21.470]through your project you also
- [00:08:24.780]have the
- [00:08:25.360]opportunity to present or
- [00:08:26.660]publish your work this can be
- [00:08:28.980]different things we
- [00:08:31.820]will see I think it's now let
- [00:08:36.260]me see
- [00:08:36.260]this no I'm sorry you we will
- [00:08:38.940]have the student research days
- [00:08:40.780]that we'll see in a
- [00:08:42.020]bit or other opportunities
- [00:08:43.780]maybe your professor has has
- [00:08:46.720]been involved in a
- [00:08:48.980]project that has a conference
- [00:08:51.050]and maybe you can join them so
- [00:08:53.060]there's
- [00:08:53.660]opportunities like that that
- [00:08:55.480]may be available to you or
- [00:08:57.000]maybe you know you're
- [00:08:58.300]working on on a project that
- [00:09:01.000]your professor is publishing
- [00:09:04.030]some kind of book or some kind
- [00:09:06.240]of journal entry and so you can
- [00:09:09.650]get to be part of that already
- [00:09:11.700]from your first
- [00:09:12.540]semester I mean first year
- [00:09:14.590]first semester so that's that's
- [00:09:17.600]amazing as
- [00:09:18.460]such then FHIR is connected
- [00:09:20.760]with experiential learning so
- [00:09:23.250]if you haven't
- [00:09:24.540]heard of the term before here
- [00:09:26.700]at UNL especially we place a
- [00:09:28.780]lot of importance
- [00:09:29.820]on experiential learning which
- [00:09:31.500]is basically hands-on learning
- [00:09:33.650]right so
- [00:09:34.300]you'll learn through doing
- [00:09:36.220]it's part of our departments or
- [00:09:39.770]of all our departments curricula
- [00:09:42.400]so majors and
- [00:09:44.360]minors are structured with
- [00:09:46.520]focus on experiential learning
- [00:09:48.770]and this is what we
- [00:09:50.200]are supporting as well through
- [00:09:52.670]FHIR so not only are you paired
- [00:09:54.940]with a faculty
- [00:09:55.780]mentor for research but you're
- [00:09:57.540]also and you're conducting
- [00:09:59.100]research with them but
- [00:10:00.460]you're also attending monthly
- [00:10:01.920]cohort workshops in which you
- [00:10:03.340]are provided with
- [00:10:04.220]different information
- [00:10:06.200]with different activities
- [00:10:07.650]through which you're learning
- [00:10:09.920]specific skills and it
- [00:10:13.500]can be communication skills it
- [00:10:15.360]can be career development
- [00:10:17.200]skills it can be
- [00:10:17.920]writing skills and we also
- [00:10:19.510]support your development
- [00:10:21.130]through our canvas so
- [00:10:22.580]canvas is the platform through
- [00:10:24.680]which I think all of your
- [00:10:26.390]courses are supported
- [00:10:28.160]so you know where you have your
- [00:10:29.900]syllabi for your courses so you
- [00:10:31.830]also have some
- [00:10:33.260]information about FYRE through
- [00:10:36.180]Canvas and those will include
- [00:10:41.300]professional development
- [00:10:42.060]activities we
- [00:10:43.840]will have updates for you there
- [00:10:45.960]we usually you know send
- [00:10:47.400]reminders through
- [00:10:48.240]canvas about our monthly
- [00:10:50.150]meetings and and I think
- [00:10:52.110]Courtney was just adding
- [00:10:53.460]something to the yes thank you
- [00:10:56.650]to so you can you can check out
- [00:10:59.640]what's
- [00:10:59.980]happening with FYRE when you
- [00:11:02.300]just click on your canvas app I
- [00:11:04.720]think we have the the
- [00:11:06.160]application on our phones
- [00:11:07.300]everybody has those and you can
- [00:11:09.450]see the updates and
- [00:11:11.660]announcements there clicking
- [00:11:17.600]okay what else do we do here as
- [00:11:20.620]as the office of
- [00:11:22.220]undergraduate research and
- [00:11:24.980]fellowships we also help you
- [00:11:27.790]develop by connecting
- [00:11:29.980]you with different programs
- [00:11:32.450]with different departments and
- [00:11:35.180]what you do as a
- [00:11:36.140]student is besides being part
- [00:11:38.210]of our cohorts and our works of
- [00:11:40.150]a cohort and
- [00:11:41.060]our workshops you're also
- [00:11:42.670]assisting with new or ongoing
- [00:11:44.430]research project and an
- [00:11:45.640]ongoing research project sorry
- [00:11:48.070]you attend lab or team meetings
- [00:11:50.410]and you ask
- [00:11:51.200]questions and make research
- [00:11:53.580]contributions I think what FHIR
- [00:11:55.900]what
- [00:11:55.900]makes FYRE so special and so
- [00:11:57.880]unique is it's exactly that
- [00:11:59.870]like from the get-go
- [00:12:01.460]essentially of your studies you're
- [00:12:03.510]introduced to what research is
- [00:12:05.130]and you
- [00:12:05.580]become part of that research
- [00:12:06.120]and you become part of that
- [00:12:06.120]research and you
- [00:12:06.120]become part of that research
- [00:12:07.420]and you become part of like
- [00:12:08.450]research like real
- [00:12:09.360]academic research right that
- [00:12:11.410]contributes to to real-world
- [00:12:15.220]issues I mentioned
- [00:12:17.560]before that you may have
- [00:12:20.500]presentation opportunities some
- [00:12:24.320]of those are more you
- [00:12:27.320]know demanding and some of
- [00:12:28.850]those are for a first-year
- [00:12:30.420]student I can totally
- [00:12:31.660]understand that and some of
- [00:12:33.270]them are more let's say
- [00:12:34.600]informal or casual right
- [00:12:36.100]so we have student research
- [00:12:38.240]days that are happening in
- [00:12:40.190]spring and those those
- [00:12:42.340]two three days are like it is
- [00:12:44.570]an opportunity for you to
- [00:12:46.610]develop a poster
- [00:12:48.080]just like this one that we see
- [00:12:49.240]in the picture about your
- [00:12:50.280]research that you've
- [00:12:51.220]been conducting and then
- [00:12:53.210]present and communicate with
- [00:12:55.570]other researchers as
- [00:12:57.320]well as an audience right
- [00:12:59.230]people who are visiting this
- [00:13:02.200]essential exhibition right
- [00:13:04.180]and they check out what's
- [00:13:06.590]happening at UNL in terms of
- [00:13:09.240]research we also have
- [00:13:11.000]the summer research symposium
- [00:13:13.240]which takes place in August if
- [00:13:15.520]I'm not
- [00:13:15.940]mistaken so that's another
- [00:13:18.390]opportunity for you to present
- [00:13:21.650]your project and of
- [00:13:23.640]course publishing in academic
- [00:13:25.290]journals something that you can
- [00:13:27.000]discuss more with
- [00:13:28.740]your faculty members depending
- [00:13:30.510]on you know the field that you're
- [00:13:32.250]in and the
- [00:13:32.840]the media that they're using
- [00:13:33.340]and so that's another
- [00:13:33.710]opportunity for you to
- [00:13:34.160]publish your research our very
- [00:13:37.280]own five-minute symposium
- [00:13:40.880]however is one of
- [00:13:42.440]those I think it's between
- [00:13:44.160]formal and informal because it's
- [00:13:46.160]a great
- [00:13:46.660]opportunity for you to present
- [00:13:48.920]your work in a in a setting
- [00:13:50.730]that is familiar it's
- [00:13:52.060]here at UNL it's our final
- [00:13:53.970]event it's my personally most
- [00:13:56.500]favorite event because
- [00:13:57.840]everybody gets together and we
- [00:14:00.380]are presenting I mean students
- [00:14:02.900]are presenting
- [00:14:04.140]their research and they're they
- [00:14:06.580]can actually look back and
- [00:14:08.710]reflect on on
- [00:14:09.660]their on the very beginning of
- [00:14:12.020]their studies here at UNL and
- [00:14:14.280]how far they've
- [00:14:15.120]come within just two semesters
- [00:14:18.160]this is from our very last mini
- [00:14:21.140]symposium just
- [00:14:21.980]now in April and students were
- [00:14:24.430]really really our students were
- [00:14:26.660]really really
- [00:14:27.800]excited and we had really fun
- [00:14:30.120]it might not look like we did
- [00:14:32.510]because of the gray
- [00:14:33.720]wall the gray background it was
- [00:14:36.330]a really fun event and it was
- [00:14:38.630]good to see how
- [00:14:39.900]everyone has has really
- [00:14:42.400]developed interest in research
- [00:14:45.830]some more of our
- [00:14:48.760]fire students and our fire
- [00:14:50.840]success stories our fire alumni
- [00:14:53.660]you can see just
- [00:14:54.600]three of them here but we have
- [00:14:56.690]many more so some students who
- [00:14:59.160]begin with the
- [00:15:00.480]research in the first year with
- [00:15:02.610]fire they end up going to the
- [00:15:03.700]university and
- [00:15:03.700]go to Penn State as doctoral
- [00:15:05.890]students just like Elizabeth
- [00:15:08.310]here or Clementine
- [00:15:09.920]here who was part of the Russo
- [00:15:11.800]lab was retained for a second
- [00:15:13.630]year right so you
- [00:15:15.660]know you're part of a lab in
- [00:15:16.980]your first year and if they
- [00:15:18.320]have funding if they
- [00:15:19.340]hit there's position available
- [00:15:21.620]and if you're doing a good job
- [00:15:23.540]as well like
- [00:15:24.480]they're gonna hold on to you
- [00:15:25.730]because they want students like
- [00:15:27.220]you who want to
- [00:15:27.940]do research and the same thing
- [00:15:29.620]with Haley she was part of home
- [00:15:31.460]lab so she
- [00:15:32.560]continued her project
- [00:15:33.680]through you care and you care
- [00:15:36.310]is a program that you can
- [00:15:38.500]really apply after
- [00:15:40.280]you well during and after you
- [00:15:42.440]complete fires it can start out
- [00:15:44.770]as of the summer
- [00:15:45.660]of your first year that's why I
- [00:15:47.410]said during and after right and
- [00:15:49.370]it's a
- [00:15:49.780]program through which you can
- [00:15:51.330]continue your research or
- [00:15:52.650]developing new project
- [00:15:53.960]with a mentor but more of that
- [00:15:56.450]later like first we want you to
- [00:15:58.400]go through
- [00:15:58.820]fire okay so in terms of a
- [00:16:03.660]timeline I think like I'm
- [00:16:05.370]talking too much but we have a
- [00:16:07.000]lot of important
- [00:16:07.740]information for you guys so
- [00:16:09.590]there's three things three
- [00:16:11.430]steps that we should
- [00:16:13.440]remember in terms of the fire
- [00:16:15.030]timeline the first one is that
- [00:16:17.560]you know you have
- [00:16:19.040]to verify your work-study
- [00:16:21.270]status so you have to fill out
- [00:16:23.220]FAFSA and check it in
- [00:16:25.080]my red and my red once again
- [00:16:26.970]you might already be familiar
- [00:16:28.900]with it but it's
- [00:16:29.980]also a platform through which
- [00:16:32.850]you can see like your
- [00:16:33.640]grades or you can enroll for
- [00:16:35.400]courses and you can also see if
- [00:16:37.320]you are receiving
- [00:16:38.740]if your work-study eligible and
- [00:16:42.110]if all of that is unclear to
- [00:16:44.400]you in terms of
- [00:16:45.640]financials you can also contact
- [00:16:48.610]Husker hub they're very fast
- [00:16:51.150]when it comes to
- [00:16:52.320]financial issues they won't
- [00:16:53.800]they're there to support you so
- [00:16:55.390]please do
- [00:16:55.960]contact Husker hub to see if
- [00:16:58.100]you're eligible and and what's
- [00:17:00.520]your status
- [00:17:01.540]exactly
- [00:17:03.620]you need to explore
- [00:17:05.400]opportunities so we will go
- [00:17:07.680]through that in a bit but our
- [00:17:10.120]current positions all of are
- [00:17:12.140]available until July 15th so
- [00:17:14.520]that's roughly a
- [00:17:15.740]week from today right we need
- [00:17:18.280]you to browse available fire
- [00:17:20.240]research and
- [00:17:21.180]creative projects and submit a
- [00:17:22.790]short applications where you
- [00:17:24.340]rank your top
- [00:17:25.100]three choices and we will talk
- [00:17:27.850]about that in a little bit as
- [00:17:30.380]well in more
- [00:17:31.520]detail and the last step is
- [00:17:33.600]you get matched essentially and
- [00:17:35.880]you start fire this year we
- [00:17:37.780]start firing on
- [00:17:39.060]September 2nd and after you
- [00:17:41.680]match with your faculty manager
- [00:17:44.360]you will be
- [00:17:45.180]notified around mid-august so
- [00:17:48.900]roughly in a month from now and
- [00:17:52.970]so you will have a
- [00:17:54.040]little bit of an adjustment
- [00:17:55.340]time between like the beginning
- [00:17:56.900]of the semester and
- [00:17:57.860]getting to know your mentor a
- [00:18:00.060]little bit and then you'll
- [00:18:02.400]start with fire on September
- [00:18:03.580]2nd okay so just a few more
- [00:18:09.610]things now about eligibility so
- [00:18:14.250]you need to have
- [00:18:16.820]minimum 2.5 high school GPA you
- [00:18:20.200]need to be first-year full-time
- [00:18:23.540]degree-seeking
- [00:18:24.800]students this fall and you also
- [00:18:27.300]we've said this earlier but you
- [00:18:29.710]also need to
- [00:18:30.720]be able to commit five to ten
- [00:18:32.560]hours per week
- [00:18:33.560]on the assigned research or
- [00:18:35.090]creative project I know it can
- [00:18:36.660]be hard sometimes
- [00:18:37.840]a lot of students including
- [00:18:40.380]myself tend to be a little bit
- [00:18:42.160]ambitious and take
- [00:18:43.160]over a little bit too much of a
- [00:18:45.800]workload but if you need to if
- [00:18:49.190]you need
- [00:18:50.300]to like invest time in research
- [00:18:52.390]through fire and if you want to
- [00:18:54.400]be part of fire
- [00:18:55.440]right you need to commit to
- [00:18:57.940]those five to ten hours per
- [00:19:00.300]week and you also need
- [00:19:02.000]to talk about
- [00:19:03.540]like your schedule to your
- [00:19:05.410]advisor so that it's it's
- [00:19:08.190]possible right so we
- [00:19:09.500]want you to have time to
- [00:19:11.440]actually be able to focus on
- [00:19:13.750]research and not just
- [00:19:15.300]to you know get things done in
- [00:19:16.990]a way that you're not learning
- [00:19:18.770]the purpose of
- [00:19:19.700]fire is that you are hands-on
- [00:19:22.210]learning instead of just you
- [00:19:24.790]know completing a
- [00:19:26.360]task right it's a process it's
- [00:19:28.590]not just completing a task just
- [00:19:30.190]just to complete
- [00:19:31.140]it for the sake of completing
- [00:19:33.520]it so
- [00:19:33.520]five to ten hours commitment is
- [00:19:35.210]really important and I want you
- [00:19:36.970]to really pay
- [00:19:37.600]attention to to that aspect
- [00:19:39.300]when you're building your
- [00:19:40.540]schedule this fall fire
- [00:19:45.200]benefits now so besides the
- [00:19:47.460]commitment that you have to
- [00:19:48.970]make and that can be a
- [00:19:50.960]little bit time restricting
- [00:19:53.020]fire also provides payment at
- [00:19:57.210]minimum wage for
- [00:19:58.460]your work and the course
- [00:20:01.350]enrollment aspect of
- [00:20:03.500]that is a little bit of time
- [00:20:03.940]that you have to make sure that
- [00:20:04.440]you're doing what you're
- [00:20:04.920]doing but we can also provide
- [00:20:07.320]you you and I'll also provide
- [00:20:08.720]you with credit for it
- [00:20:11.880]with fire you're building a
- [00:20:14.300]network in your very first year
- [00:20:15.970]of study studies and you're
- [00:20:17.920]planning your career the people
- [00:20:20.290]that you meet at this level at
- [00:20:22.120]college level are very
- [00:20:23.400]important
- [00:20:24.120]they're going to create you're
- [00:20:26.440]going to create a network
- [00:20:27.670]professional network through
- [00:20:28.800]which
- [00:20:29.040]you you can build like a
- [00:20:30.290]company or you can build
- [00:20:31.680]connections that might help you
- [00:20:33.480]prevent
- [00:20:33.480]your career from going into the
- [00:20:36.200]profession later on so we find
- [00:20:37.280]fire as a very very important
- [00:20:38.280]first step towards building
- [00:20:39.890]your career and fire is your
- [00:20:44.410]first year program but it's
- [00:20:45.520]also
- [00:20:45.780]a pipeline to you care and
- [00:20:47.030]other research programs at UNL
- [00:20:49.420]we are also as an office of
- [00:20:51.540]undergraduate research and
- [00:20:53.640]fellowships we also provide
- [00:20:55.720]advising for other
- [00:20:57.210]opportunities
- [00:20:58.000]so that's why we're
- [00:20:59.220]coordinating this program
- [00:21:01.000]together with all of our
- [00:21:02.540]departments and our
- [00:21:03.460]colleges here at UNL because we
- [00:21:06.060]can really help you once you
- [00:21:08.360]finish fire you can look
- [00:21:10.400]into other opportunities as
- [00:21:12.790]well through our office okay
- [00:21:16.920]this is something new that we're
- [00:21:18.500]adding to fire this year and we're
- [00:21:20.650]very very excited it's a pilot
- [00:21:22.590]program so presidential
- [00:21:24.140]scholars can now join fire
- [00:21:26.110]through unpaid research or
- [00:21:27.980]creative projects and they're
- [00:21:30.280]paired with course enrollment
- [00:21:32.560]again through our experience
- [00:21:33.440]and experiential learning
- [00:21:35.240]requirement so for presidential
- [00:21:37.500]scholars the process is not
- [00:21:39.770]that
- [00:21:39.940]different um hi Brian it's not
- [00:21:44.390]that different so you still
- [00:21:46.450]have to apply to fire and match
- [00:21:48.400]with the project and faculty
- [00:21:51.510]mentor and you're also need to
- [00:21:54.410]enroll to get um to get the the
- [00:21:56.540]course credit right um so for
- [00:21:58.850]presidential scholars only I
- [00:22:01.320]repeat the eligibility is
- [00:22:03.420]slightly different so first you
- [00:22:05.750]need to meet all presidential
- [00:22:07.250]scholarship requirements you
- [00:22:09.980]need to
- [00:22:10.300]accept that award in my red of
- [00:22:12.750]course you need to be a first
- [00:22:14.860]um year full-time UNL student
- [00:22:17.170]this fall
- [00:22:17.660]and because you're getting
- [00:22:20.740]credit for uh for fire instead
- [00:22:23.540]of being paid for it um we need
- [00:22:26.540]to to find
- [00:22:27.420]a course that is tied to your
- [00:22:29.010]research and we provide um
- [00:22:30.530]advising especially Courtney
- [00:22:32.250]Santos
- [00:22:32.780]who's here and she's going to
- [00:22:33.400]tell you a little bit more
- [00:22:33.400]about the course that we're
- [00:22:33.400]providing
- [00:22:33.400]um provides um excellent
- [00:22:35.630]advising as to how to navigate
- [00:22:37.960]the system we know it can be
- [00:22:39.560]tricky and
- [00:22:40.060]we're here for you um so yeah
- [00:22:42.610]that's um for presidential
- [00:22:45.090]scholars only moving on to the
- [00:22:49.680]next
- [00:22:50.020]part of our presentation for
- [00:22:52.490]today how do you apply for FYRE
- [00:22:55.080]right so what do you have to do
- [00:22:57.620]um I have those five steps here
- [00:22:59.870]for you and we're going to go
- [00:23:01.940]through the the
- [00:23:03.380]application as well but I
- [00:23:04.930]really need to emphasize this
- [00:23:06.410]right because we need you to
- [00:23:08.080]really check your
- [00:23:08.760]status first because we don't
- [00:23:10.220]want you to spend your time
- [00:23:11.530]applying and then be
- [00:23:12.700]disappointed if
- [00:23:13.440]you're not work study eligible
- [00:23:15.420]um and or if you're a
- [00:23:16.670]presidential scholar or if you're
- [00:23:19.040]right now part
- [00:23:19.680]of three year and stem power so
- [00:23:21.430]we'll we really need you to
- [00:23:22.970]contact us to help and I repeat
- [00:23:24.800]this
- [00:23:25.000]again or contact us and we can
- [00:23:27.160]guide you um through this
- [00:23:29.130]process but hasco hub really
- [00:23:31.210]has access to
- [00:23:32.680]those uh
- [00:23:33.360]information we if you contact
- [00:23:34.990]us we will definitely tell you
- [00:23:36.200]to call us but if you're lost
- [00:23:37.850]we can
- [00:23:38.220]always like advise you um
- [00:23:40.310]number two pick your passion so
- [00:23:42.580]choose a position through our
- [00:23:45.050]directory
- [00:23:45.600]choose up to three actually
- [00:23:48.170]dream projects that you like um
- [00:23:50.780]and something that you know
- [00:23:53.300]when you
- [00:23:53.680]read about like when the
- [00:23:55.090]description when you read about
- [00:23:56.860]the project that makes you feel
- [00:23:58.680]excited that
- [00:23:59.320]makes you feel like oh I would
- [00:24:01.130]love to do that that I can see
- [00:24:02.810]myself
- [00:24:03.340]um working with insects with
- [00:24:05.620]bees like some of the our
- [00:24:07.000]students do I can see myself
- [00:24:09.580]working with
- [00:24:10.820]different languages with
- [00:24:12.400]different cultures right with
- [00:24:14.260]different um culture groups as
- [00:24:16.200]well um number
- [00:24:18.340]three so you'll have to tell us
- [00:24:20.510]why so in order to better match
- [00:24:22.680]you to better understand like
- [00:24:25.060]whether the project matches
- [00:24:27.540]what you want we want you to
- [00:24:29.770]really be real be specific and
- [00:24:32.150]just be honest
- [00:24:33.320]and tell us about yourself and
- [00:24:34.950]why that really excites you
- [00:24:36.430]this project really interests
- [00:24:38.080]you
- [00:24:38.360]this is something that you can
- [00:24:40.230]dream of yourself doing number
- [00:24:42.900]four stay open-minded so here
- [00:24:46.880]you in
- [00:24:47.820]the in the application like you're
- [00:24:51.100]choosing up to three um
- [00:24:53.410]projects so um I would really
- [00:24:55.950]say
- [00:24:56.420]do not say like oh this is my
- [00:24:58.660]number one uh project I only
- [00:25:01.020]want to do this if I if I can
- [00:25:03.300]not do this I don't want to do
- [00:25:05.530]fire at all well I would say
- [00:25:07.970]just even if that's the case
- [00:25:10.790]just pick up
- [00:25:11.600]to three that might be interest
- [00:25:13.480]you and then you know hopefully
- [00:25:15.380]you're matched with your number
- [00:25:17.360]one
- [00:25:17.680]project but if not maybe by the
- [00:25:19.610]time you know we're announcing
- [00:25:21.620]our results maybe you've
- [00:25:23.250]changed
- [00:25:23.920]your mind and you've regretted
- [00:25:26.160]that you didn't like add a
- [00:25:28.040]second or a third um option so
- [00:25:30.110]I would
- [00:25:31.800]say just just do it just pick
- [00:25:33.410]like three projects and then
- [00:25:35.120]you'll you'll see you'll figure
- [00:25:36.980]it out
- [00:25:37.400]once you're once you have to
- [00:25:39.110]make a decision so do not like
- [00:25:40.900]block yourself from becoming
- [00:25:42.840]part of fire
- [00:25:43.880]um just because right um number
- [00:25:46.920]five the last one here show who
- [00:25:49.550]you are so this is again very
- [00:25:51.080]important so there are the
- [00:25:52.260]questions that we have are I
- [00:25:54.100]mean they do go into some
- [00:25:56.800]detail not
- [00:25:57.960]like very a lot of detail but
- [00:26:00.300]there's
- [00:26:01.780]like opportunities for you to
- [00:26:03.770]show who you are your your
- [00:26:05.460]strengths um as a as a first
- [00:26:07.700]year student
- [00:26:09.060]um your dreams your aspirations
- [00:26:11.300]your goals so all of those
- [00:26:13.020]things we want to see those in
- [00:26:14.820]the
- [00:26:14.980]application so that we know um
- [00:26:17.410]this is probably something that
- [00:26:19.800]the student should do or this
- [00:26:22.420]is
- [00:26:22.500]something that the student's
- [00:26:24.700]aspirations match with this
- [00:26:27.310]project so we're here to do
- [00:26:28.740]that we're
- [00:26:29.300]here to read more about you to
- [00:26:31.350]get to know you and to help you
- [00:26:33.460]develop your skills and I'm
- [00:26:37.300]gonna click
- [00:26:37.860]on the link up here right now
- [00:26:40.900]and let me know if you can
- [00:26:43.630]still see my screen Courtney
- [00:26:45.760]can you
- [00:26:46.500]okay great so this is the page
- [00:26:49.560]where you can find um the first
- [00:26:52.580]year research the fire
- [00:26:53.540]application
- [00:26:54.180]for this year um but if you go
- [00:26:56.580]to our main page as well if
- [00:26:58.780]undergraduate of you care right
- [00:27:01.700]uh
- [00:27:02.100]uraf sorry dot unl dot edu so
- [00:27:04.510]if you even if you have just
- [00:27:06.840]this address up here that I
- [00:27:08.980]have on the
- [00:27:09.460]slide and I will repeat again
- [00:27:11.070]you just click on down on here
- [00:27:12.700]undergraduate research and then
- [00:27:14.740]you
- [00:27:14.980]just click on find a fire
- [00:27:16.680]opportunity it's gonna bring
- [00:27:18.820]you over here on the um
- [00:27:20.340]application page
- [00:27:22.340]and I'm gonna just go back um
- [00:27:25.680]yeah oh why am I lost here that's
- [00:27:28.810]where I wanted to go okay so um
- [00:27:32.740]we we will take a look at the
- [00:27:35.480]application step by step
- [00:27:37.860]and um if you do come up with
- [00:27:39.940]questions in the meantime
- [00:27:42.030]please write them down as I'm
- [00:27:44.500]talking
- [00:27:45.060]so we can go through those um
- [00:27:46.970]because we want to just help
- [00:27:48.850]you with you know any specific
- [00:27:50.860]questions
- [00:27:51.700]that you have or more general
- [00:27:52.970]ones but since we're going
- [00:27:54.140]through a very specific like
- [00:27:55.940]step-by-step
- [00:27:57.300]application process I want you
- [00:27:59.160]to please take note of your of
- [00:28:00.880]your questions so um on this
- [00:28:03.940]page you
- [00:28:04.340]will find um a lot of the
- [00:28:06.550]information we just talked
- [00:28:08.830]about so employment um
- [00:28:10.490]information like
- [00:28:12.100]what we just said about paid or
- [00:28:14.030]unpaid opportunities how many
- [00:28:16.050]hours and I'm just gonna be
- [00:28:18.580]um like yes underlining here so
- [00:28:20.550]that you can see the things
- [00:28:22.230]that I'm talking about five to
- [00:28:24.020]ten hours
- [00:28:24.580]per week um like um the minimum
- [00:28:27.110]wage the monthly skill building
- [00:28:29.620]workshops and professional
- [00:28:32.020]developed
- [00:28:32.420]programming um that we we have
- [00:28:35.190]here for you so all this
- [00:28:37.120]information that we just talked
- [00:28:39.320]about
- [00:28:40.020]the minimum for your GPA where
- [00:28:42.140]you can get information about
- [00:28:44.340]um the work study
- [00:28:48.580]eligibility and so on and of
- [00:28:50.730]course for presidential
- [00:28:52.120]scholars the course credit
- [00:28:54.020]information or for non-presidential
- [00:28:56.490]scholars as well how they can
- [00:28:58.340]also get
- [00:28:58.980]um the course credit and then
- [00:29:01.120]of course in terms of the
- [00:29:03.260]placement so this is the
- [00:29:04.900]timeline that we
- [00:29:05.780]were just talking about and how
- [00:29:07.930]um Courtney our director
- [00:29:09.660]Courtney Sanders our director
- [00:29:11.860]is going to be um um well
- [00:29:14.330]streamlining this process uh by
- [00:29:18.580]mid-August um so okay
- [00:29:20.910]applications are accepted from
- [00:29:23.470]early June to mid-July so
- [00:29:26.020]annually so this
- [00:29:26.900]year it's exactly the 15th of
- [00:29:28.990]July and as I said again uh
- [00:29:30.550]placements are announced in mid-August
- [00:29:32.980]so
- [00:29:33.380]the first few things are very
- [00:29:35.100]easy your first name your last
- [00:29:36.810]name your email your phone and
- [00:29:38.590]potential
- [00:29:39.140]majors so here um with
- [00:29:41.080]potential majors um I would
- [00:29:43.430]like to say a lot of people
- [00:29:45.620]have faith for how many
- [00:29:48.580]majors I would say stick to
- [00:29:51.060]those that are like really your
- [00:29:53.860]um your primary majors if I can
- [00:29:56.500]say
- [00:29:56.740]that right so if those two
- [00:29:58.810]majors are the main um like
- [00:30:01.060]goal of your studies let's say
- [00:30:03.720]and maybe you
- [00:30:04.420]know by the time you're you're
- [00:30:05.720]finishing your first semester
- [00:30:07.080]your second semester you will
- [00:30:08.340]have changed your mind but
- [00:30:09.880]right now those two are one or
- [00:30:11.770]two right because it can be one
- [00:30:13.330]as well
- [00:30:13.860]I'm not I I was an English
- [00:30:15.360]major so I'm not you know
- [00:30:16.870]judging anybody
- [00:30:18.580]um so um I would say just put
- [00:30:21.120]like the the very um important
- [00:30:24.260]the primary majors that you
- [00:30:26.210]have here
- [00:30:26.740]um okay then there's a few more
- [00:30:29.640]questions are you a trio
- [00:30:31.880]student so this is very I think
- [00:30:34.180]straightforward as you're
- [00:30:35.630]president are you a
- [00:30:36.640]presidential scholar would you
- [00:30:38.990]like to combine
- [00:30:39.780]your fair participation with a
- [00:30:41.360]zero credit course to satisfy
- [00:30:42.890]experiential learning
- [00:30:44.230]requirements for
- [00:30:44.980]your degree remember course
- [00:30:47.200]credit right
- [00:30:48.580]and even if you're unsure here
- [00:30:50.410]if you're like I'm not sure if
- [00:30:52.250]I want to or not I would just
- [00:30:53.860]still
- [00:30:54.180]say yes and then we can talk
- [00:30:56.400]about it and we can talk about
- [00:30:58.590]it and you can talk about it
- [00:31:00.660]with your
- [00:31:00.980]advisor as well and we can
- [00:31:03.440]decide how to to go about this
- [00:31:06.250]um so be open right as I said
- [00:31:08.820]before
- [00:31:09.700]be open-minded um are you a
- [00:31:12.410]William H Thompson scholar do
- [00:31:15.330]you have a work study award and
- [00:31:17.630]I will
- [00:31:18.420]repeat this again because as we
- [00:31:20.650]see these every year right um
- [00:31:22.710]so please check with us Husker
- [00:31:25.220]Hub
- [00:31:25.540]about your work study award um
- [00:31:27.760]because we don't have access to
- [00:31:30.280]this information and they would
- [00:31:32.260]know exactly the information
- [00:31:34.290]that you need because we also
- [00:31:36.190]need the amount of your work
- [00:31:37.770]study award
- [00:31:38.420]so this is going to come from
- [00:31:41.320]um from Husker Hub all right
- [00:31:44.250]moving on to job preferences
- [00:31:49.380]um so this is the page that I
- [00:31:50.540]clicked on before and as I said
- [00:31:53.410]you can scroll up here and go
- [00:31:56.040]under
- [00:31:56.740]undergraduate research and find
- [00:31:59.340]it right here or if you're
- [00:32:01.350]already in the application
- [00:32:03.460]you can just click on this and
- [00:32:06.650]you can find all of the
- [00:32:08.920]positions here and before I do
- [00:32:12.170]that
- [00:32:12.740]I will just go through the
- [00:32:14.320]questions here and then we can
- [00:32:16.210]go and take a look at the
- [00:32:17.820]current
- [00:32:18.260]opportunities that are
- [00:32:19.240]available so um first choice
- [00:32:23.320]second choice and third choice
- [00:32:27.620]so all of
- [00:32:28.020]those are required so do not
- [00:32:30.050]say I don't I only want one
- [00:32:31.880]like the my first choice and I'm
- [00:32:34.160]not going
- [00:32:34.740]to do another one do all three
- [00:32:36.880]of them um and just rank them
- [00:32:38.730]right which one would be ideal
- [00:32:40.870]for me
- [00:32:41.460]which one would be less ideal
- [00:32:43.430]for me and which one would be a
- [00:32:45.400]little bit even less ideal for
- [00:32:47.470]me so as
- [00:32:48.100]you click on um on the menu
- [00:32:50.620]down here you can scroll and
- [00:32:53.380]see quite a few names of
- [00:32:55.660]professors
- [00:32:56.900]and faculty mentors that
- [00:32:58.700]cooperate with FIRE and you can
- [00:33:00.920]also see a little a title like
- [00:33:02.950]a little
- [00:33:03.380]summary essentially of the
- [00:33:05.660]position if you want to know
- [00:33:07.800]more about the position or if
- [00:33:10.100]something you
- [00:33:11.220]know I would say do it for
- [00:33:12.830]every position that you're
- [00:33:14.690]interested in um like you can
- [00:33:16.630]see for
- [00:33:17.220]example where is the genetic
- [00:33:19.200]diversity of soil borne fungal
- [00:33:21.360]pathogen population so roughly
- [00:33:23.540]you
- [00:33:23.780]know what it is about but not
- [00:33:25.550]exactly so I would just really
- [00:33:27.580]if I were to select this
- [00:33:29.060]position for
- [00:33:29.780]example I would go and open
- [00:33:32.320]find a FIRE opportunity and I
- [00:33:35.150]would go down here I'm sure I've
- [00:33:38.180]forgotten
- [00:33:38.660]the name already of the
- [00:33:40.610]professor Dr. Garcia Roca yes
- [00:33:43.110]okay and I would just go um and
- [00:33:45.740]find this position
- [00:33:47.060]here and see um whether I'm
- [00:33:49.140]interested in this in the
- [00:33:50.920]description or not um and that
- [00:33:55.700]goes for all
- [00:33:56.340]of the projects right so if you
- [00:33:58.050]know you want to do I don't
- [00:33:59.410]know soundscape bird soundscapes
- [00:34:01.540]for
- [00:34:01.700]example then I'm guessing this
- [00:34:03.540]is your ideal project so you
- [00:34:05.300]will go with this one first for
- [00:34:07.060]example right um so when you're
- [00:34:10.180]choosing your first choice um I
- [00:34:13.300]would like to emphasize here
- [00:34:16.260]that
- [00:34:16.900]you should really give us a
- [00:34:19.330]good a great actually
- [00:34:20.840]explanation of of why you've
- [00:34:22.900]chosen this
- [00:34:23.540]especially if it's your first
- [00:34:25.360]choice right um because you can
- [00:34:27.170]imagine that if there's
- [00:34:28.660]three or five or ten or twenty
- [00:34:30.740]people who are uh looking for
- [00:34:32.820]for matching for the first
- [00:34:34.500]position
- [00:34:35.380]it's going to be perhaps some
- [00:34:36.900]details that really really
- [00:34:38.310]matter when we're matching
- [00:34:39.540]students so we really want you
- [00:34:41.930]to take your time and really um
- [00:34:44.280]think about the importance of
- [00:34:46.740]of um why you're choosing this
- [00:34:48.660]as your first job choice why
- [00:34:51.270]does this job interest you um
- [00:34:54.500]do you
- [00:34:54.740]have any qualifications um that
- [00:34:57.460]are specifically related to the
- [00:35:00.190]ones that are um described here
- [00:35:02.820]in
- [00:35:02.900]this posting so why is this
- [00:35:05.040]important and I'm gonna maybe
- [00:35:07.890]zoom in a little bit because I
- [00:35:09.220]don't know
- [00:35:09.940]how good or bad it is um via
- [00:35:12.710]zoom um we have an example
- [00:35:16.580]for you down here just to give
- [00:35:18.590]you an idea about what you look
- [00:35:20.320]what we are looking for
- [00:35:21.620]when we're matching we're doing
- [00:35:23.360]the matching process and I'm
- [00:35:25.050]just going to read it and
- [00:35:26.180]underline things that are
- [00:35:27.860]important here for you to
- [00:35:29.470]include in your application
- [00:35:31.380]for example I'm interested in
- [00:35:33.790]this opportunity because it
- [00:35:36.140]works with how diseases
- [00:35:38.170]progress
- [00:35:38.900]as well as cell survival so
- [00:35:41.330]here a few things that we
- [00:35:43.100]notice is that we're using I
- [00:35:46.420]the pronoun I I know it can be
- [00:35:48.360]hard sometimes for students
- [00:35:50.520]especially you know first-year
- [00:35:52.020]students
- [00:35:52.420]who are like oh I was just a
- [00:35:53.930]high school student but now you
- [00:35:55.550]know I'm a college student
- [00:35:56.900]suddenly
- [00:35:57.380]and I have to have an opinion
- [00:35:59.360]right but yes you are it's a it's
- [00:36:01.240]a job that you're applying for
- [00:36:03.780]and you need to show how you
- [00:36:05.690]feel and how you are connected
- [00:36:07.980]and how you are interested in
- [00:36:10.030]this
- [00:36:10.260]opportunity so yeah using the
- [00:36:12.150]pronoun I can be a little bit
- [00:36:13.760]challenging but it's very
- [00:36:15.360]important so
- [00:36:16.260]um is you're also expressing
- [00:36:19.250]yourself so you're not
- [00:36:20.440]expressing what somebody else
- [00:36:21.940]thinks of you
- [00:36:22.980]like you're you're telling us
- [00:36:24.840]about you so please be like use
- [00:36:27.490]this I be this person like
- [00:36:29.940]yourself
- [00:36:30.500]instead of saying you know my
- [00:36:32.530]professor my teacher like I
- [00:36:34.470]want to do this right
- [00:36:36.180]you cannot just apply for a job
- [00:36:38.120]and say you know people tell me
- [00:36:40.100]I'm really good at math
- [00:36:41.460]do you are you really good at
- [00:36:43.070]math right what people tell you
- [00:36:45.010]so I'm interested in
- [00:36:46.100]this opportunity because we say
- [00:36:48.400]here because right so we have
- [00:36:50.460]interest and then why it worked
- [00:36:53.460]with how diseases progress as
- [00:36:55.480]well as cell survival so
- [00:36:57.260]already here we can see that
- [00:36:59.060]this
- [00:36:59.300]person is using keywords
- [00:37:01.860]diseases progress and cell
- [00:37:04.660]survival so obviously this
- [00:37:07.480]person has taken
- [00:37:08.820]a look at the specific joke
- [00:37:10.850]posting that they're applying
- [00:37:13.320]for and they have really
- [00:37:14.930]highlighted
- [00:37:15.940]they have really traced what is
- [00:37:18.820]important in this in this
- [00:37:21.280]posting so it's about how
- [00:37:23.790]diseases progress
- [00:37:24.740]and about cell survival and
- [00:37:26.510]these are the two important
- [00:37:28.270]keywords that they need need to
- [00:37:30.880]be in
- [00:37:31.140]the very first sentence of this
- [00:37:33.620]of this answer I hope I'm I'm
- [00:37:35.790]not boring you but I'm trying
- [00:37:38.180]to
- [00:37:38.500]to be very specific um about
- [00:37:40.740]what we're looking for right so
- [00:37:43.270]we need you to show why you're
- [00:37:45.770]impor
- [00:37:45.780]why you're interested and why
- [00:37:47.610]this is important for you this
- [00:37:49.430]job would help me get my foot
- [00:37:51.220]in the
- [00:37:51.460]door for my future career as I
- [00:37:53.310]would like to work in cancer
- [00:37:55.090]research so this person already
- [00:37:57.220]knows
- [00:37:57.940]what this posting is about
- [00:37:59.530]diseases progress how does this
- [00:38:01.470]progress and cell survival
- [00:38:03.300]and then they explain that it's
- [00:38:05.700]not just something that they
- [00:38:07.440]like it's something
- [00:38:08.500]that they want to invest their
- [00:38:10.760]time and to learn more about
- [00:38:12.830]because this is a career
- [00:38:15.620]um goal for them and they know
- [00:38:17.780]it's about cancer research
- [00:38:19.970]right so they know exactly what
- [00:38:22.420]they want
- [00:38:22.500]to do now you're going to say I'm
- [00:38:24.070]just a first year student like
- [00:38:25.630]I don't know everything about
- [00:38:27.300]what I want in life some people
- [00:38:28.940]do some people don't some
- [00:38:30.280]people want to explore so this
- [00:38:32.460]is
- [00:38:32.580]also what the program is
- [00:38:34.320]promoting essentially right it's
- [00:38:36.720]helping you um discover whether
- [00:38:39.060]the
- [00:38:39.300]interests that you have are
- [00:38:41.110]really something that you want
- [00:38:43.030]to do professionally or if you're
- [00:38:45.170]not
- [00:38:45.460]sure about your interests you
- [00:38:47.440]can also explore them we have
- [00:38:49.350]students and I can talk about
- [00:38:51.880]this
- [00:38:52.020]forever obviously as you can
- [00:38:53.740]see but we have students who
- [00:38:55.130]were for example um one of our
- [00:38:57.940]students last year right she um
- [00:39:00.800]she was in um biological
- [00:39:03.000]sciences and then she switched
- [00:39:05.060]and
- [00:39:05.140]she wants to become she's going
- [00:39:07.180]to become a dentist that's her
- [00:39:09.080]decision so this is I mean
- [00:39:10.820]it's not that far like it's it's
- [00:39:13.300]it's in the same general
- [00:39:15.300]field but it's quite different
- [00:39:17.280]from when you're entering like
- [00:39:19.410]wanting to do biological
- [00:39:20.510]sciences
- [00:39:20.980]and then you want to go to to
- [00:39:23.080]um to dental school I think um
- [00:39:25.620]and this is important this is
- [00:39:27.540]why fire
- [00:39:28.340]is very important because it
- [00:39:29.430]helps you explore different
- [00:39:30.500]options and different skills
- [00:39:32.540]that you
- [00:39:32.900]may have I'm going to keep
- [00:39:34.900]going with this text um I think
- [00:39:38.660]the hands-on
- [00:39:39.380]experience is also great for
- [00:39:41.450]learning in a greater depth um
- [00:39:43.600]here we see hands-on
- [00:39:45.140]experience so this person knows
- [00:39:47.120]that this is um this is a
- [00:39:48.480]position that demands being
- [00:39:50.370]involved
- [00:39:51.060]and learning in a greater depth
- [00:39:53.110]so they also understand that
- [00:39:55.020]this is an opportunity for them
- [00:39:57.140]to develop their skills this
- [00:39:58.910]job has the possibility to be
- [00:40:00.770]long term so and I would
- [00:40:03.540]like to be doing research the
- [00:40:05.190]whole time I that I am at UNL
- [00:40:06.630]so some of those labs as we
- [00:40:08.180]said before
- [00:40:08.820]do um offer this opportunity
- [00:40:10.630]and some don't so you have to
- [00:40:12.340]really read carefully um
- [00:40:14.980]what the ad is saying and then
- [00:40:16.720]see if that really matches what
- [00:40:18.620]you want right because some
- [00:40:19.860]people
- [00:40:20.100]want just to do research the
- [00:40:21.570]first year and some people
- [00:40:22.800]already know in the first
- [00:40:24.060]semester they
- [00:40:24.740]want to do a PhD okay and that's
- [00:40:27.500]okay um whatever makes you um
- [00:40:29.960]feel fulfilled and whatever
- [00:40:32.640]makes you
- [00:40:33.380]feel like you know this is what
- [00:40:35.250]I want to do and this is how I
- [00:40:36.880]want to do it I know I have the
- [00:40:38.670]work
- [00:40:38.980]ethic and desire to improve
- [00:40:40.500]every day because I have to
- [00:40:41.850]have these qualities to succeed
- [00:40:43.580]in the degree I want
- [00:40:44.820]so this shows a lot of self-awareness
- [00:40:47.610]to us it shows commitment to
- [00:40:50.110]research it shows work ethic
- [00:40:52.980]and it's the student is also
- [00:40:54.640]using you know the the keywords
- [00:40:56.580]like work ethic is important
- [00:40:58.420]for any
- [00:40:59.060]faculty mentor or any job I
- [00:41:01.560]think um and you know they they
- [00:41:03.700]understand that these qualities
- [00:41:06.400]are needed
- [00:41:07.060]to to um complete their degree
- [00:41:09.320]I'm very thoughtful and work
- [00:41:11.500]well with others so this um
- [00:41:13.470]speaks to this person's
- [00:41:14.660]personal qualities and
- [00:41:17.070]communication skills because in
- [00:41:19.560]engineering classes we have to
- [00:41:20.900]work
- [00:41:21.140]the shared space as a team also
- [00:41:23.570]teamwork so this is how we read
- [00:41:26.000]an application as the people
- [00:41:28.660]who
- [00:41:28.820]do the matching process right
- [00:41:31.020]and this is um what what we're
- [00:41:33.100]looking for we are looking for
- [00:41:35.540]your position your perspective
- [00:41:38.940]your expression and you can
- [00:41:41.840]also see how in the second year
- [00:41:44.500]you can also see how you can
- [00:41:45.970]work with other people um and
- [00:41:47.640]you can also see how you can
- [00:41:48.690]work with other
- [00:41:49.940]people um and you can also see
- [00:41:50.810]how you can work with other
- [00:41:51.600]people so this is how you can
- [00:41:52.430]work with
- [00:41:52.820]other people um and you can
- [00:41:53.550]also see how you can work with
- [00:41:54.330]other people so this is how you
- [00:41:55.160]can work
- [00:41:55.380]with other people um and you
- [00:41:56.170]can also see how you can work
- [00:41:57.000]with other people so this is
- [00:41:57.550]how you can
- [00:41:57.620]work with other people um and
- [00:41:58.650]you can also see how you can
- [00:41:59.480]work with other people um and
- [00:42:00.280]you can also
- [00:42:00.340]see how you can work with other
- [00:42:01.120]people um and you can also see
- [00:42:01.860]how you can work with other
- [00:42:02.360]people
- [00:42:02.420]um and you can also see how you
- [00:42:03.520]can work with other people um
- [00:42:04.610]and you can also see how you
- [00:42:05.030]can work with
- [00:42:05.220]other people um and you can
- [00:42:05.920]also see how you can work with
- [00:42:06.450]other people um and you can
- [00:42:07.040]also see how
- [00:42:08.260]you can work with other people
- [00:42:09.370]um and you can also see how you
- [00:42:10.380]can work with other people um
- [00:42:14.340]and you can
- [00:42:14.340]major, but they're open to
- [00:42:15.880]different positions. And this
- [00:42:17.780]is their second choice. So they're
- [00:42:19.660]explaining why I have always
- [00:42:21.320]been fascinated by the world
- [00:42:23.000]around us, how countries,
- [00:42:24.680]governments and citizens act
- [00:42:26.480]and react internally and
- [00:42:27.910]externally. The main focus of
- [00:42:29.800]the research, the ways people
- [00:42:31.620]respond to human rights
- [00:42:33.020]violations and the ripple
- [00:42:34.570]effects of those responses
- [00:42:36.170]absolutely relates to my
- [00:42:37.640]curiosity regarding
- [00:42:38.890]international relations. So
- [00:42:41.320]here, the student, the
- [00:42:43.340]applicant is
- [00:42:44.320]doing something important. They're
- [00:42:46.690]using a direct quote from the
- [00:42:48.420]text from the posting. I think
- [00:42:50.780]that's also really important,
- [00:42:52.870]because they're incorporating
- [00:42:55.110]it into their argument as to
- [00:42:57.060]how they find this position
- [00:42:59.060]matching their own interests,
- [00:43:01.070]right. So this means that they
- [00:43:02.980]really went through the posting
- [00:43:04.950]very, very closely, they read
- [00:43:06.900]it, and they want they know
- [00:43:08.600]exactly what this position is
- [00:43:10.380]about. And they find that it
- [00:43:12.190]aligns with their own interests.
- [00:43:14.300]The research would allow me the
- [00:43:20.130]opportunity to look more in
- [00:43:25.300]depth at the efforts of
- [00:43:29.560]activists and look deeper into
- [00:43:35.860]how the ICC operates and their
- [00:43:41.040]limitations. So here they're
- [00:43:44.280]giving some more information
- [00:43:44.280]about how that would help him,
- [00:43:44.280]this position would help him
- [00:43:44.280]professionally. Although I have
- [00:43:44.280]no formal research experience,
- [00:43:44.280]honesty, right, I took many
- [00:43:44.280]criminal justice, history and
- [00:43:44.280]government courses in high
- [00:43:44.280]school. So here, like, I don't
- [00:43:44.280]have this
- [00:43:44.280]exact, like experience, but I
- [00:43:46.960]want to gain experience that I
- [00:43:49.190]do have some foundational
- [00:43:51.120]experience. So here, like being
- [00:43:53.240]honest, but also diplomatic
- [00:43:54.280]about their pros and cons, let's
- [00:43:58.130]say, I'm also extremely detail
- [00:44:00.060]oriented and a great critical
- [00:44:01.900]thinker, more personal
- [00:44:03.340]information about like, how
- [00:44:05.160]they they work, how, how they
- [00:44:08.180]approach their position in
- [00:44:11.250]research. And the third choice
- [00:44:14.260]here,
- [00:44:14.260]which can we skip the third
- [00:44:17.400]choice and actually take a look
- [00:44:19.110]at one of those fire
- [00:44:21.080]opportunity posting, we can
- [00:44:23.210]kind of show how to pull those
- [00:44:24.920]direct quotes. Yes. So I'm
- [00:44:27.000]gonna click on the other tab
- [00:44:28.470]here. So if you want to find an
- [00:44:30.660]opportunity, you can either go
- [00:44:32.890]through the college selection.
- [00:44:35.120]So if you're already part of, I
- [00:44:37.200]don't know, the College of Arts
- [00:44:39.360]and Sciences, let's say, and
- [00:44:41.440]you click on search, right.
- [00:44:44.240]And then you see, okay, there's
- [00:45:01.670]a few positions here. All right,
- [00:45:14.220]let me start with the first one,
- [00:45:14.220]Dr. Bennis, investigating fire
- [00:45:14.220]history in the Nebraska Sandhills
- [00:45:14.220]using sediment course. Maybe I'm
- [00:45:14.220]interested, maybe I'm not in,
- [00:45:14.220]it's part of geography, maybe I'm
- [00:45:14.220]not that interested, maybe I'm
- [00:45:14.220]going to go to the next one. Oh,
- [00:45:14.220]psychology. Yes, Dr. Dodd,
- [00:45:14.220]individual differences in
- [00:45:14.220]cognitive process. This is it.
- [00:45:14.220]I'm interested in this project,
- [00:45:14.220]for example. Okay, it's Dr.
- [00:45:14.220]Michael Dodd. And we're going
- [00:45:14.220]to go to the next one.
- [00:45:14.220]What they're looking for,
- [00:45:29.040]potential student tasks. Okay,
- [00:45:44.200]primary data collection, which
- [00:45:44.200]requires initial training on
- [00:45:44.200]our paradigms in the colleges,
- [00:45:44.200]and then fire students would be
- [00:45:44.200]able to make their own schedule
- [00:45:44.200]to collect data. So there's
- [00:45:44.200]already some collection of data
- [00:45:44.200]that exists, some databases,
- [00:45:44.200]and also they want us to
- [00:45:44.200]collect data. They want me as a
- [00:45:44.200]fire student. All right, that
- [00:45:44.200]sounds a little bit scary, but
- [00:45:44.200]I kind of like it because I
- [00:45:44.200]like collecting, I like data, I
- [00:45:44.200]like organizing data. Fire
- [00:45:44.200]students are also expected to
- [00:45:44.200]be able to collect data.
- [00:45:44.200]Fire students are also expected
- [00:45:45.570]to attend lab meetings if they
- [00:45:46.960]fit into their course schedule.
- [00:45:48.510]So that can be good. For me, I
- [00:45:49.930]can learn from other people.
- [00:45:51.250]Lab meetings can be a
- [00:45:52.150]combination of reading group
- [00:45:53.490]discussions, larger real-world
- [00:45:55.030]discussions, or info sessions
- [00:45:56.460]on fire, various professional
- [00:45:57.930]development opportunities. Okay,
- [00:46:00.340]I think I can do that.
- [00:46:02.500]Student qualifications. What
- [00:46:04.530]are they looking for? What kind
- [00:46:06.240]of students? Curious. I am
- [00:46:07.600]curious. Motivated. Check.
- [00:46:09.310]Responsible. Check. Hardworking.
- [00:46:11.380]Check. Able to work
- [00:46:12.390]independently once trained.
- [00:46:14.180]Going. But also willing to ask
- [00:46:16.070]questions whenever you need
- [00:46:17.950]anything. Yeah, that's me. Time
- [00:46:20.840]management can be helpful, and
- [00:46:22.410]it is good to have general
- [00:46:23.880]interpersonal skills for
- [00:46:25.700]interacting with participants.
- [00:46:27.560]Yeah, I think I can do that. I
- [00:46:29.750]like people. I like working
- [00:46:31.850]with people. Time management.
- [00:46:34.340]Yes, I can do that. I can
- [00:46:35.920]manage my time. Training,
- [00:46:38.000]mentoring, and workplace
- [00:46:40.050]community. So here, there's
- [00:46:42.410]information about
- [00:46:44.160]the general environment of this
- [00:46:56.060]position. All of our fire
- [00:47:14.140]students receive initial
- [00:47:14.140]trainings in ethics, lab
- [00:47:14.140]protocols, lab technology,
- [00:47:14.140]primarily eye tracking, and
- [00:47:14.140]general experimental guidance.
- [00:47:14.140]So good. I will receive
- [00:47:14.140]training. The purpose of having
- [00:47:14.140]fire students attend lab
- [00:47:14.140]meetings is to also help
- [00:47:14.140]develop other professional
- [00:47:14.140]skills. We have a very
- [00:47:14.140]supportive and inclusive lab
- [00:47:14.140]with folks at many different
- [00:47:14.140]years of study. Okay, so maybe
- [00:47:14.140]I can interact with graduate
- [00:47:14.140]students too, or people who
- [00:47:14.140]have
- [00:47:14.140]some experience, or people like
- [00:47:15.710]me who are just learning. Great.
- [00:47:17.890]And with very divergent
- [00:47:20.110]backgrounds, this really adds
- [00:47:21.940]the cohesiveness of the lab
- [00:47:23.460]group and makes folks feel more
- [00:47:25.080]involved in the lab relative to
- [00:47:26.840]if they just collected data on
- [00:47:28.790]their own. I agree. I'm a first
- [00:47:31.170]generation college student. Oh,
- [00:47:33.420]so am I. So this professor
- [00:47:35.420]definitely understands how I
- [00:47:36.760]feel. An immigrant from Canada,
- [00:47:38.860]and so it is important to me to
- [00:47:40.540]provide opportunities to
- [00:47:42.120]students seeking them.
- [00:47:44.120]This professor sounds really
- [00:47:45.900]like somebody I would like to
- [00:47:47.180]work with. Lab is very
- [00:47:49.000]supportive, and the grad
- [00:47:50.280]students often help as
- [00:47:51.810]additional advisors, but I'm
- [00:47:53.490]available to students at any
- [00:47:55.010]time for anything. Wow, this
- [00:47:56.730]professor is really open. And I
- [00:47:58.850]already like this position so
- [00:48:00.850]much. This is a good
- [00:48:02.380]opportunity to learn about
- [00:48:03.940]cognitive psychology research,
- [00:48:05.900]a great inroads to neuroscience,
- [00:48:07.860]if you have those interests
- [00:48:09.520]down the road. And we have good
- [00:48:11.210]success getting fire students a
- [00:48:13.070]lot of critical opportunities.
- [00:48:14.100]So this
- [00:48:14.100]is a job that really interests
- [00:48:15.900]me. There's two positions,
- [00:48:17.370]which is good, right? So I can
- [00:48:20.150]get one of them. I can check
- [00:48:22.070]out the department that Dr. Dodd
- [00:48:24.580]works at, and I can see whether
- [00:48:27.120]I really like other things.
- [00:48:32.890]This is such a cool profile
- [00:48:37.180]that the professor has. And I
- [00:48:42.360]can watch a video about this
- [00:48:44.080]professor. I can see what their
- [00:48:44.080]lab does. And I can see more
- [00:48:44.080]about the department of
- [00:48:45.390]psychology here, right? Because
- [00:48:47.250]it's the vision, attention,
- [00:48:48.320]memory, and perception lab,
- [00:48:50.670]sorry, vamp lab, right? So this
- [00:48:53.980]happens with all of those
- [00:48:56.070]positions that we have here,
- [00:48:58.260]depending on the interests that
- [00:49:09.780]you have. And on the professor's
- [00:49:14.060]profile, the faculty mentor
- [00:49:14.060]usually emphasizes specific
- [00:49:14.060]things that they care about
- [00:49:14.060]this, this professor, for
- [00:49:14.060]example, that we just read the
- [00:49:14.060]whole profile about, right,
- [00:49:14.060]they do say, Oh, you know, this
- [00:49:14.060]they're very open, they
- [00:49:15.260]understand that you're at a
- [00:49:16.600]different phase stage of your
- [00:49:18.310]of your research, you're new at
- [00:49:20.160]UNL. So they know that they
- [00:49:22.070]need to support you a little
- [00:49:23.680]bit more than they would that
- [00:49:25.570]they do with graduate students.
- [00:49:27.550]And there's graduate students
- [00:49:29.440]who can also support you. So
- [00:49:31.290]they're already already like
- [00:49:33.130]placing a lot of emphasis on
- [00:49:35.030]the environment, not just the
- [00:49:36.720]research per se. And so you can
- [00:49:38.690]see if you if your interest in
- [00:49:40.430]psychology and in this specific
- [00:49:42.450]project, that
- [00:49:44.040]project, and if not, you move
- [00:49:45.680]on to the next project. And you
- [00:50:14.020]see if something else is there.
- [00:50:14.020]At this point, you're trying to
- [00:50:14.020]look for three projects, and
- [00:50:14.020]then you're trying to rank them,
- [00:50:14.020]right? Because we want you to
- [00:50:14.020]apply using this form that we
- [00:50:14.020]just went through for three
- [00:50:14.020]positions. So we need to
- [00:50:14.020]remember that. So if you if Dr.
- [00:50:14.020]Dodd's project is the number
- [00:50:14.020]one ranked for your
- [00:50:14.020]application, then you need two
- [00:50:15.740]more that you can see yourself
- [00:50:17.350]working in. Courtney, am I do
- [00:50:20.940]we have should we should we go
- [00:50:23.760]to
- [00:50:23.960]that's great. I think maybe we
- [00:50:25.670]should open it up to questions
- [00:50:27.520]at this point.
- [00:50:28.620]Okay, yeah, because time is
- [00:50:30.870]went by so fast.
- [00:50:31.940]That was great.
- [00:50:34.060]Okay. So if there's any
- [00:50:36.790]questions that you may have, I'm
- [00:50:39.750]just going to remind you,
- [00:50:44.000]as well, and the rest of the
- [00:50:45.420]people, please apply by July 15.
- [00:50:50.150]And the placement is not
- [00:50:51.940]guaranteed. So make sure that
- [00:50:53.510]you choose those three postings
- [00:50:56.660]wisely. And you explain
- [00:50:59.610]everything in the in the
- [00:51:02.900]sections below where you can
- [00:51:09.530]explain why you're choosing
- [00:51:13.980]choosing this posting. So this
- [00:51:13.980]is us again, Courtney Sanders,
- [00:51:13.980]Kelly Patterson, and me on a
- [00:51:13.980]computer. And this is our
- [00:51:13.980]general website.
- [00:51:13.980]uraf.unl.edu. And if you have
- [00:51:17.820]questions that come up, like
- [00:51:20.290]tomorrow, or to like before the
- [00:51:22.860]deadline, definitely before
- [00:51:25.350]July 15, please send us an
- [00:51:27.810]email. But we're also here for
- [00:51:30.640]the next few minutes. If there's
- [00:51:33.100]any questions right now, that
- [00:51:35.600]we can answer. Please add them
- [00:51:38.640]to the chat if that's easier
- [00:51:40.870]for you.
- [00:51:41.880]You can unmute.
- [00:51:43.960]We're a small group today.
- [00:51:45.020]Okay.
- [00:51:56.020]Okay. Well, we'll be available
- [00:51:59.160]by email as well. For further
- [00:52:01.470]questions, you can reach us at
- [00:52:04.160]youcare.unl.edu. Year round, we
- [00:52:07.120]check the email daily, you know,
- [00:52:09.600]during the business week. So if
- [00:52:12.000]any other questions come up, we'll
- [00:52:13.940]be able to answer them.
- [00:52:13.940]While you're working on your
- [00:52:15.210]application, we're happy to
- [00:52:16.530]help.
- [00:52:16.980]Okay, great. Well, it was so
- [00:52:22.340]nice to meet you. And welcome
- [00:52:24.450]to UNL again. Go Big Red.
- [00:52:26.400]Yes. Hope to see your
- [00:52:29.570]applications.
- [00:52:30.680]Yeah, we'll get this posted on
- [00:52:32.410]the website by tomorrow. Thank
- [00:52:34.180]you so much, Juana, for the
- [00:52:35.840]great overview of the program.
- [00:52:37.630]That was awesome.
- [00:52:38.820]Thank you all.
- [00:52:40.200]All right. Have a great
- [00:52:42.250]afternoon. Bye bye.
- [00:52:43.920]Bye.
