- [00:00:13.340]And Dr. Tiffany Heng-Moss joins
- [00:00:15.660]us now.
- [00:00:16.340]Thank you so much for being
- [00:00:17.530]with us today, Tiffany.
- [00:00:18.860]I know that you've been a
- [00:00:20.200]faculty member, researcher,
- [00:00:21.950]extension specialist,
- [00:00:23.420]and College of Agricultural
- [00:00:25.020]Sciences and Natural Resources
- [00:00:26.950]dean.
- [00:00:27.340]So what inspired you to pursue
- [00:00:29.030]a career in agriculture?
- [00:00:30.660]Yeah, well, thanks for the
- [00:00:32.610]opportunity to join you today,
- [00:00:34.820]and it truly is an incredible
- [00:00:36.260]honor to be stepping into this
- [00:00:37.860]new role.
- [00:00:38.420]As to what led me to a career
- [00:00:40.220]in agriculture and natural
- [00:00:42.120]resources,
- [00:00:43.100]like many students, I didn't
- [00:00:44.650]necessarily have a straight
- [00:00:46.070]pathway.
- [00:00:46.720]I had many majors along the way,
- [00:00:49.560]and a defining experience
- [00:00:51.050]through experiential learning
- [00:00:53.010]led me to a path in agriculture.
- [00:00:55.460]And so reflecting on that,
- [00:00:57.480]reflecting back, I'm incredibly
- [00:00:59.010]grateful to those mentors who
- [00:01:00.410]invested in me,
- [00:01:01.280]and I could not have selected a
- [00:01:03.050]more impactful career pathway.
- [00:01:05.180]Well, I know they are so
- [00:01:06.380]excited to have you in that
- [00:01:07.710]role.
- [00:01:08.240]And I understand that you spent
- [00:01:09.840]the last eight years as dean of
- [00:01:11.380]CASNR.
- [00:01:11.960]So how did that experience
- [00:01:13.450]prepare you for this new
- [00:01:14.680]chapter?
- [00:01:15.380]Yeah, it's been incredibly
- [00:01:17.230]important as I step into this
- [00:01:19.080]new leadership role.
- [00:01:20.720]It truly has emphasized the
- [00:01:22.480]importance of listening and
- [00:01:24.320]learning to truly understand,
- [00:01:26.440]a focus on
- [00:01:27.300]collaboration, relationship
- [00:01:29.450]building,
- [00:01:30.260]fostering a culture of
- [00:01:32.300]innovation,
- [00:01:33.260]the power of teams and what we
- [00:01:35.130]can collectively accomplish
- [00:01:37.760]together,
- [00:01:38.260]as well as a strong commitment
- [00:01:40.260]to our land-grant mission,
- [00:01:42.260]as well as the integration
- [00:01:43.850]across what we do in research
- [00:01:45.650]and discovery,
- [00:01:46.260]extension and engagement and
- [00:01:47.880]teaching and learning.
- [00:01:49.260]And so today is July 1,
- [00:01:51.260]starting my second month,
- [00:01:52.260]and I'm incredibly energized
- [00:01:54.380]and excited to be able to build
- [00:01:57.260]upon our
- [00:01:57.280]positive momentum and grow our
- [00:02:00.040]impact that we're having across
- [00:02:01.320]the state and beyond.
- [00:02:02.280]Sounds like you've already kind
- [00:02:04.120]of got a list of priorities
- [00:02:05.280]made out.
- [00:02:06.240]Let's expand on that just a
- [00:02:07.460]little bit more,
- [00:02:08.240]because I know you guys kind of
- [00:02:09.920]stay on the cutting edge and
- [00:02:11.660]some innovative thinking when
- [00:02:13.380]it comes to agriculture.
- [00:02:14.240]So what are you most looking
- [00:02:15.520]forward to?
- [00:02:16.240]Yeah, that's exactly right.
- [00:02:18.240]Well, first and foremost, it's
- [00:02:20.360]a collective and shared vision
- [00:02:21.280]and set of priorities.
- [00:02:23.240]Just over a year ago, we
- [00:02:24.480]launched our INR strategic plan.
- [00:02:27.260]And in that plan, our goal is
- [00:02:29.640]to be able to grow and
- [00:02:30.550]strengthen the state of
- [00:02:31.260]Nebraska,
- [00:02:31.260]the state of Nebraska, and our
- [00:02:32.560]state of Nebraska.
- [00:02:34.260]And that was informed by
- [00:02:35.620]stakeholder engagement, both
- [00:02:37.520]internal and external.
- [00:02:38.260]And it really prioritizes three
- [00:02:40.420]pillars.
- [00:02:41.260]The first is to grow and
- [00:02:43.060]strengthen our agriculture and
- [00:02:45.440]natural resources ecosystems.
- [00:02:47.260]A second is to improve the
- [00:02:48.850]health and well-being of
- [00:02:50.440]Nebraska's.
- [00:02:51.260]And then that third priority is
- [00:02:52.710]contributing to the economic
- [00:02:53.860]growth and vitality of our over
- [00:02:57.240]500 communities across the
- [00:02:57.240]state of Nebraska.
- [00:02:57.240]So we're looking forward to the
- [00:02:58.600]Institute, the university, and
- [00:03:00.300]the state of Nebraska.
- [00:03:01.240]Well, we are looking forward to
- [00:03:02.710]what lies ahead for you guys
- [00:03:03.890]there.
- [00:03:04.240]And we know that what you do
- [00:03:05.560]can impact outside the state of
- [00:03:07.130]Nebraska as well.
- [00:03:08.240]We appreciate you joining us
- [00:03:09.710]today.
- [00:03:10.240]That's Dr. Tiffany Hang-Moss,
- [00:03:12.240]the interim vice chancellor for
- [00:03:13.440]the Institute of Agriculture
- [00:03:15.240]and Natural Resources at the
- [00:03:16.510]University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
