- [00:00:00.980]All right. So here we go. If you go to the sandbox site and you log in, you'll see this administrative toolbar up here at the top, kind of like what I have.
- [00:00:11.180]You know, if I'm not logged in, it's just you're just looking at the site like as you'd normally be browsing a site.
- [00:00:17.420]So we're going to go through and we're going to talk about content, adding content to the site and, you know, kind of all the different administrative things that you can do on your site.
- [00:00:29.000]So first, we're going to go to content. So this content tab is everything related to content on your site. If you click it, if you just click it, it'll show you all the pages on your site and what type of content that they are.
- [00:00:41.640]If I roll over this and click add content here, it gives me a list of all the type types of content that I can add to the site. So these are specific pieces of content that you can add.
- [00:00:54.940]So the builder page is probably the page.
- [00:00:58.920]That you're going to use the most. It's sort of like two different pages in one, and I will get to that in the future.
- [00:01:04.580]But this is a page where you can either create, you know, kind of a text heavy page with images and links, or you can create these really elaborate layouts using something we have called layout builder.
- [00:01:18.000]Again, I'll get, we're going to run through all of these in the training, some of them more than once.
- [00:01:23.220]A book page is pretty much what it says, you know, it has a built in navigation.
- [00:01:28.900]On the side, it's useful for handbooks or tutorials.
- [00:01:31.580]A news item is exactly what it says it is.
- [00:01:34.640]A person is exactly what it says it is.
- [00:01:37.700]And a web form is basically a piece of content that you can use to gather information from users of your website.
- [00:01:46.400]So we're going to go a little out of order here because one of the, you know, the new system,
- [00:01:52.940]one of the features of the new system is that it is a no code environment.
- [00:01:58.200]So I don't know how many of you worked in the old system, but the old system was very much a,
- [00:02:04.180]you know, you had one big box and you either did work in WYSIWYG or you switched it over to
- [00:02:12.280]CodeView. And it was very easy to break, you know, if you were in CodeView and switched to WYSIWYG
- [00:02:19.120]and then edited some text, it was very easy to delete things that you couldn't see and then
- [00:02:24.240]break the layout of the page. Well, the new system, we don't have that.
- [00:02:27.940]We basically just fill out fields and it'll build the page for you with internal templates
- [00:02:32.020]and it'll create valid code and it's very nice that way. It's also a little more modular so that
- [00:02:38.900]pieces work with other pieces and work with other systems even in pulling in content to your site.
- [00:02:48.080]So now that I've said that, I'll kind of show you what I mean by all of that. So we're going to just
- [00:02:52.940]enter a person here to start with. And I'm just going to create a person page,
- [00:02:57.920]for myself. So you'll see I filled out this display name. And then the second field is
- [00:03:03.820]actually a UNL directory reference, as it says. And you'll see that it auto-completes
- [00:03:08.880]as I start typing my name. So I'm just going to select this. And I'm going to go ahead and click
- [00:03:14.220]Save. I'm not going to fill out any more information here, just to show you how this works.
- [00:03:19.320]So I click Save. And I have this page for myself, even though I only filled out two fields.
- [00:03:26.680]So, you know, this is my title. And then all this other information is being pulled in from
- [00:03:33.080]directory, UNL directory. Just by filling out that UNL directory reference, it's pulling in my job
- [00:03:38.220]title, my department, and then all my contact information. So if I want to, I can come back in
- [00:03:46.320]here. You know, just a reference here, my title is Senior Web Developer. So let's just say for
- [00:03:52.940]today's purposes, I want my job title to be my job title. And then I can come back in here and
- [00:03:56.660]be Lead Trainer, right? Or maybe we're making a site for training. So we have this whole drop
- [00:04:04.500]down here full of UNL directory overrides. So you can fill in this UNL directory field,
- [00:04:10.120]and this is where you could do overrides. So I can put Lead Trainer here. I know that directory
- [00:04:16.280]isn't always have like the cleanest job titles for everybody. Sometimes there's abbreviations and
- [00:04:21.280]it looks a little weird. So if you have that when you create a person page, this is a very easy way
- [00:04:26.640]to make your title say what you want it to. It's also very good if you have somebody who
- [00:04:35.960]does not even have a university ID who you want to add to your site. So maybe you have, you know,
- [00:04:41.640]somebody who's going to be a visiting lecturer, but they're not, they don't have a university ID.
- [00:04:45.680]Well, rather than filling in this UNL directory reference here, you just fill in their name,
- [00:04:50.860]and then you'd fill in all their information down here. And it would display just like a
- [00:04:56.620]the information was from UNL directory. So I can scroll down here and you can see all this stuff,
- [00:05:02.040]you know, we have all this different fields that you can fill in. So this is all social media,
- [00:05:05.520]personal stuff, and then I can put in a bio. So, you know, if I want to put in a short bio,
- [00:05:09.980]so keep it short for today's purposes, and then I'm going to click save.
- [00:05:26.600]I just like it. Training day for my connection to be really slow.
- [00:05:56.580]All right. So you can see here, I use this job title field and overrode the default one
- [00:06:07.360]from directory. And then my bio information gets placed in here. And if I fill out those
- [00:06:11.980]other fields, that information gets displayed in various ways on this page. But it's really
- [00:06:16.940]easy to create a person page and have it display nice. And as you fill in that information,
- [00:06:21.840]it'll build out. So we're going to go back in here.
- [00:06:26.560]And in addition to just clicking add content to take you to that page that I was on, if
- [00:06:31.880]you kind of hover over this, you can actually go through this list and add content that
- [00:06:36.900]way.
- [00:06:37.900]So I'm going to add a news item now. So we're going to say news item for 20th. So you can
- [00:06:51.660]see again, I mentioned that it's no code. There's just a bunch of fields here to fill
- [00:06:55.000]out.
- [00:06:56.540]And news item will have an image associated with it. And so anytime you add an image,
- [00:07:04.300]you'll see here, I'm going to add, it's going to ask me to add media. So this is going to
- [00:07:08.660]take me into this thing called media library. So media library is a new, it's the way that
- [00:07:16.220]this new version of our CMS handles media. So media is images. It is files and it is
- [00:07:23.400]external videos. So in the old system,
- [00:07:26.520]if you remember it, it sort of worked like folders with, it is like a folder structure,
- [00:07:32.040]basically what you'd imagine from Windows to DOS to anything where you could create
- [00:07:37.200]folders. You could put folders in those folders, then you could put images or files in those
- [00:07:42.380]folders, and then you'd have to reference those in HTML, which was frankly kind of a
- [00:07:46.800]pain. This new system is one big kind of holding system for images or files, and it uses files
- [00:07:56.500]names and a tagging system so that you can find them later. So we have some documentation
- [00:08:05.180]on our Web Developer Network site for best practices, both for tagging and for naming
- [00:08:12.920]your images and files. I'm going to go ahead and add one here, and I'll show you what the
- [00:08:17.340]process looks like for adding these items to Media Library. So we're going to add our
- [00:08:24.080]image. I can't remember here.
- [00:08:26.480]Try to find one off my desktop here. All right.
- [00:08:37.480]So when I upload this image, it's automatically going to prompt me to add alt text to it,
- [00:08:42.880]so that any time I use this image on my website, whether it's here or on another page, it'll
- [00:08:47.920]automatically have alt text. It'll automatically be accessible. So we can say here, student
- [00:08:56.460]vest and holding camera on field at Memorial Stadium. So here, tags, so we gave it alt
- [00:09:12.060]text. So here, tags in our best practice document, and kind of what I tell people is go general
- [00:09:20.120]to specific. So when you're tagging something, you know, this is a student, right? So we
- [00:09:26.440]have students, and I want to show you what not to do here really quick. So I started
- [00:09:30.720]typing student, and this will autocomplete to tags that have already been created. So
- [00:09:36.940]you can see here, we have a tag for student, and we have a tag for students. So this is
- [00:09:41.680]bad, because if we create two tags that are so similar, in the future, you could theoretically
- [00:09:47.420]start having all these images that should be tagged the same thing, diverging into these
- [00:09:53.020]two separate tags. And it could be hard to find.
- [00:09:56.420]Either the image you're looking for, or maybe you're looking for a specific image, and it's
- [00:10:02.080]in one tag, but you're searching another tag in the future.
- [00:10:04.460]So this is what not to do.
- [00:10:06.320]I would either use student or students.
- [00:10:08.500]I would argue that student life is different enough that that could be a separate tag.
- [00:10:14.380]But we're going to go with students.
- [00:10:15.860]We're going to go with journalism.
- [00:10:19.980]I think they're from City of JMC, so we're going to tag it as journalism.
- [00:10:26.400]We could say that we know that this is from this year as well.
- [00:10:32.900]We could say Memorial Stadium as well because we know it's at Memorial Stadium.
- [00:10:36.060]There's already a tag for that.
- [00:10:37.660]We could even tag it football if we know it's a football game.
- [00:10:41.160]See, here's another terrible.
- [00:10:44.660]Somebody created a tag that says foothall.
- [00:10:46.780]And that should not be.
- [00:10:49.160]Again, you're going to have diverging tags.
- [00:10:51.000]It's going to be bad.
- [00:10:51.660]So football.
- [00:10:53.240]You could even tag it by year.
- [00:10:55.100]So in the future.
- [00:10:56.540]If you want to find all the photos that you added to your site in a certain
- [00:10:59.640]year, you know, maybe.
- [00:11:01.180]Hopefully we don't have to go through something like COVID again,
- [00:11:04.400]but you know,
- [00:11:04.940]if we're in 2025 and we wanted to find all the images that we added in
- [00:11:09.660]2020,
- [00:11:10.100]because we don't want photos of people wearing masks anymore.
- [00:11:12.680]This would be an easy way to do that,
- [00:11:14.700]but we're going to go ahead and do 2025 and we're going to insert this.
- [00:11:18.640]So we've not only uploaded this image and added it to media library,
- [00:11:24.780]but now we've added it to our,
- [00:11:26.360]to our news item.
- [00:11:27.720]So cut line is additional information about a photo that you might have.
- [00:11:32.440]So my alt tag was kind of a little bit more general describing the photo
- [00:11:37.400]that was descriptive of the photo.
- [00:11:38.900]So the lead image cut line could be something like name of students and
- [00:11:45.860]major of student and year they're graduating or something like that.
- [00:11:51.900]Right.
- [00:11:52.200]Being a little more specific about that photo.
- [00:11:56.340]The lead image credit would be who took that photo.
- [00:11:59.360]I honestly don't know who took this.
- [00:12:01.700]So I'm just going to say
- [00:12:03.080]nation.
- [00:12:14.640]And then a byline is who wrote the news article.
- [00:12:18.840]So, you know, we can just say
- [00:12:22.360]NIU.
- [00:12:26.320]We can usually do this.
- [00:12:27.140]Nobody wants to see me type
- [00:12:29.320]a bunch of paragraphs.
- [00:12:31.340]So I'm just going to use a lorem ipsum generator.
- [00:12:33.420]And then I'll copy that into my news article.
- [00:12:39.160]Oops.
- [00:12:49.100]Wrong window.
- [00:12:53.760]Okay, here we go.
- [00:12:56.300]So there's the body of my news article.
- [00:12:59.440]So when I mentioned earlier
- [00:13:00.800]that the news system is a little more modular,
- [00:13:03.000]I will show you what that means here.
- [00:13:05.780]So person reference,
- [00:13:07.720]this would be a person who might be a contact
- [00:13:09.780]for this news article.
- [00:13:10.760]So I am going to reference myself here
- [00:13:15.280]because I know that I added myself as a person.
- [00:13:17.460]And then related links,
- [00:13:20.900]this is something that a website
- [00:13:24.360]that might be related to this news article.
- [00:13:26.280]This is something where we could put journalism.
- [00:13:29.680]And we'll go ahead and save this.
- [00:13:42.660]So you can see here, we've got this.
- [00:13:48.920]It looks a lot like a news article
- [00:13:51.020]that you'd see in Nebraska Today.
- [00:13:52.540]It's the title, byline, date published.
- [00:13:57.180]Our cut line, our photo credit,
- [00:14:00.580]some share widget over here for sharing to social,
- [00:14:03.320]the body of that news article.
- [00:14:07.340]Here was where I was referencing as a contact.
- [00:14:11.620]I referenced myself as I added as a person.
- [00:14:14.100]And you can see, it's pulling through
- [00:14:17.200]that overridden job title.
- [00:14:18.600]So if I were to, it's one of the cool ways
- [00:14:20.840]that this is a little bit more modular.
- [00:14:22.100]So if I were to go into my person entry
- [00:14:25.100]and change my job title,
- [00:14:26.240]it would not only change within that person entry,
- [00:14:28.820]but it would change in any other page
- [00:14:31.380]that it was referenced on, including news articles.
- [00:14:33.460]And then later we'll create a person directory
- [00:14:37.100]and you'll see how that works.
- [00:14:39.380]And then our related link is showing up here,
- [00:14:41.800]the College of Journalism as some more
- [00:14:45.220]that sort of supports this article.
- [00:14:46.620]And then at the bottom,
- [00:14:47.980]it's automatically pulling in the most recent news items
- [00:14:50.920]that have been added to the site.
- [00:14:52.300]So that is a news item.
- [00:14:56.220]We're going to go ahead and go in here
- [00:14:57.920]and add a web form now.
- [00:14:59.420]So when I click add web form,
- [00:15:04.060]we'll say sign up for training.
- [00:15:07.240]And you'll see this little notice here.
- [00:15:11.140]This is web forms must first be created
- [00:15:13.000]before referencing them,
- [00:15:14.120]which might seem kind of confusing
- [00:15:16.060]because I said I was just going to add a web form.
- [00:15:18.440]Well, in this system,
- [00:15:20.600]the fields for the data that you're collecting
- [00:15:24.000]is separate from the pages
- [00:15:26.200]that you're collecting them on.
- [00:15:28.240]That might seem a little counterintuitive,
- [00:15:31.200]but in the previous system,
- [00:15:33.520]people would always ask if they could clone a web form,
- [00:15:35.900]and you couldn't.
- [00:15:37.080]You'd have to recreate it entirely.
- [00:15:38.640]In the new system,
- [00:15:40.580]you wouldn't need to clone it
- [00:15:42.540]because the fields that you're collecting
- [00:15:44.140]always exist in one place,
- [00:15:46.340]and then the page that you're attaching them to,
- [00:15:48.660]you can create multiples.
- [00:15:50.320]So let's say you have a quarterly conference
- [00:15:54.660]or a monthly conference
- [00:15:56.180]or a monthly event
- [00:15:58.120]that you're always gathering the same information for,
- [00:16:01.700]but you want to keep that information
- [00:16:04.660]that you're gathering,
- [00:16:05.500]those entries, separate on separate pages.
- [00:16:08.240]Well, in this way,
- [00:16:10.020]you would just create the fields
- [00:16:11.220]for the data that you want to collect,
- [00:16:14.200]and then you would attach those fields
- [00:16:16.040]to different pages.
- [00:16:16.840]So I'll show you what I mean by that.
- [00:16:18.340]We are going to attach a web form,
- [00:16:23.080]the fields that we've already created,
- [00:16:24.520]to this page,
- [00:16:25.560]and I'm going to click
- [00:16:26.160]save.
- [00:16:26.600]And you can see we've got all these fields
- [00:16:32.040]that we're gathering, right?
- [00:16:33.020]Your name, comments, email,
- [00:16:35.000]choose one, feedback,
- [00:16:37.680]and then this field set, right?
- [00:16:39.660]So these are the fields that we're gathering.
- [00:16:42.460]They're attached to this page.
- [00:16:44.280]If it had been filled out,
- [00:16:46.300]the results would be up here.
- [00:16:47.680]So what does it look like to create the fields?
- [00:16:51.640]Those are actually in structure.
- [00:16:53.880]So you go to structure and you go to web forms
- [00:16:56.140]and here you can see all these web forms that we've created.
- [00:17:01.500]Here's the signup one.
- [00:17:03.340]So if I click build,
- [00:17:04.540]you can see all these different fields
- [00:17:09.440]that we attached to that web form that we created.
- [00:17:12.160]So let's just say we want to add another one here.
- [00:17:14.020]Let's just say we want to add
- [00:17:15.980]a text area.
- [00:17:21.820]And say,
- [00:17:26.120]did you enjoy the training?
- [00:17:29.080]And we'll just save that.
- [00:17:33.920]And save it here,
- [00:17:38.700]save the element to our web form,
- [00:17:40.060]and then we'll go back to content
- [00:17:41.360]to see our web form that we attached it to.
- [00:17:44.080]So sign up for training.
- [00:17:45.200]And you'll see at the bottom
- [00:17:51.040]that it automatically appended it to this page.
- [00:17:53.660]So let's say that's for,
- [00:17:56.100]you know, this is our training sign up for May.
- [00:17:58.480]And let's say we have one in June.
- [00:18:00.320]Well, we could just go add content, web form,
- [00:18:03.860]attach the sign up web form fields to it.
- [00:18:06.160]And then that data would be attached
- [00:18:08.320]to that particular page.
- [00:18:09.720]So that is web form.
- [00:18:12.080]I have a little bit more specific web form training
- [00:18:15.720]that I did recently.
- [00:18:16.780]So if you want me to, I can share that video.
- [00:18:19.340]It goes, it's almost an hour in depth on web form
- [00:18:22.480]and all the stuff you can do in those.
- [00:18:23.960]But that is web form.
- [00:18:26.080]Web form is at a very basic level.
- [00:18:27.440]Rather than adding a book page to this site,
- [00:18:32.520]I just want to show you what book pages look like.
- [00:18:34.640]So book pages are a way to add information.
- [00:18:40.080]This is the WDN website, by the way.
- [00:18:42.060]I went to wdn.unl.edu
- [00:18:45.020]and I'm going to documentation,
- [00:18:47.220]UNL CMS documentation.
- [00:18:49.180]This is also a good way for me to reiterate.
- [00:18:51.720]This is where all our documentation is
- [00:18:54.080]for this system that I'm doing the training on today.
- [00:18:56.060]So wdn.unl.edu
- [00:18:59.080]underneath documentation here,
- [00:19:01.420]UNL CMS documentation.
- [00:19:02.560]So this section is in book pages.
- [00:19:08.920]So this is what a book page looks like.
- [00:19:11.060]It has this defined navigation on the side.
- [00:19:17.280]So this is a book.
- [00:19:19.420]Introduction to UNL CMS is kind of the cover,
- [00:19:23.180]if you will, of this book.
- [00:19:26.040]And then all of these pages within it
- [00:19:28.200]are tied to this book, right?
- [00:19:30.800]So we've got all these different sections.
- [00:19:32.480]And then you can, the cool thing about book pages
- [00:19:36.380]is that you can kind of nest them down.
- [00:19:39.540]So, you know, within UNL CMS training,
- [00:19:43.060]we have a section for content types,
- [00:19:45.480]which is what I'm going over right now, right?
- [00:19:47.380]So these are all the content types
- [00:19:50.060]that you can add to UNL CMS.
- [00:19:51.600]And these are all the information pages on them.
- [00:19:53.700]So I can click into book page
- [00:19:56.020]stocks about what a book page is.
- [00:19:58.160]And then you can keep nesting them, right?
- [00:20:01.600]So if I open builder page,
- [00:20:02.900]which we're going to get to next,
- [00:20:04.400]you can see these are all the components
- [00:20:08.660]that you can add to a builder page.
- [00:20:10.440]So this is really good.
- [00:20:12.860]As I think the CMS says,
- [00:20:14.760]it's really good for documentation.
- [00:20:16.500]As you can see here,
- [00:20:17.620]I've seen it used for policies
- [00:20:20.660]where you need to maybe nest some things like that.
- [00:20:23.020]I've seen people use it for year end reports
- [00:20:26.000]where maybe you have a year end report,
- [00:20:28.100]you have an introduction from your director,
- [00:20:31.960]and then you have kind of like chapters
- [00:20:34.460]for your year end report
- [00:20:35.560]and you can drill down into that as you move through it.
- [00:20:38.540]It's just a really good way to keep this navigation.
- [00:20:42.240]It's any pages that you will make sure
- [00:20:44.540]you want to have grouped together
- [00:20:45.820]and have people move through in an order
- [00:20:48.140]and then always have that navigation
- [00:20:49.620]on the side of the page.
- [00:20:50.640]So these are book pages.
- [00:20:52.320]That's really how you do it.
- [00:20:55.980]Come over here, I'll just show you
- [00:20:57.200]kind of the structure to them.
- [00:20:58.640]Like if I add content book page,
- [00:21:00.360]you know, you add the title, you add the body.
- [00:21:04.800]When you go into book outline,
- [00:21:08.760]this is where you say create a new book.
- [00:21:11.020]So this is where, you know, for that UNL CMS training,
- [00:21:14.640]that top level page, that is where you give it that title
- [00:21:19.920]or you give it that cover of that book.
- [00:21:21.740]So you create the new book
- [00:21:23.600]and then you just kind of add child pages,
- [00:21:25.960]so those are book pages.
- [00:21:28.680]And now we're going to get into builder pages
- [00:21:34.660]and we're going to go through these
- [00:21:36.360]in several different ways to show you
- [00:21:39.000]all the different things you can do on builder pages.
- [00:21:41.520]So to start with,
- [00:21:43.820]we are just going to create a builder page.
- [00:21:46.560]I had mentioned previously
- [00:21:49.080]that it's kind of like two pages in one.
- [00:21:50.880]We're going to use kind of the basic page functionality
- [00:21:54.160]of a builder page here.
- [00:21:55.940]So we're going to go about our department.
- [00:21:58.780]We're going to just create a nice little about page here.
- [00:22:01.300]And we're going to add this hero again.
- [00:22:04.880]We're going to pop into media library.
- [00:22:07.300]Rather than adding a new image,
- [00:22:09.280]we're just going to pull one that has already been uploaded.
- [00:22:12.580]So we're going to use this innovation greenhouse.
- [00:22:15.940]So this object position right here,
- [00:22:22.500]you really only need to worry about these six numbers.
- [00:22:25.920]This is a hero on this builder page.
- [00:22:29.180]So hero is a big image that appears at the top of the page.
- [00:22:31.980]The hero size is the vertical height of that hero image.
- [00:22:39.660]I'm sure if you've been on a, you know, website,
- [00:22:41.320]you've seen one of these there.
- [00:22:42.440]They usually span the full width of the top of the page and they
- [00:22:47.460]sometimes go right up against the navigation.
- [00:22:49.360]And then the page starts right under those.
- [00:22:52.900]So the size,
- [00:22:55.900]determines,
- [00:22:56.340]you know,
- [00:22:56.960]kind of the vertical height of that.
- [00:22:58.460]So the object position,
- [00:23:00.000]these first six numbers,
- [00:23:02.420]if you think of a hero image as a photo or an image that is sliding
- [00:23:11.180]behind a mat,
- [00:23:12.220]like a mat that would be in a frame.
- [00:23:14.280]So there,
- [00:23:15.580]there's always going to be a little bit of the image that's cut off at
- [00:23:18.840]the top and the bottom.
- [00:23:19.640]And the mat is the hero size,
- [00:23:23.420]like how big the mat is,
- [00:23:25.140]right?
- [00:23:25.400]It's either,
- [00:23:25.880]it's going to be short or it's going to be tall or it's going to be
- [00:23:28.200]medium.
- [00:23:28.560]So this object position is kind of where the visual information of that
- [00:23:34.280]photo shows through on that mat.
- [00:23:37.340]So by default,
- [00:23:38.440]let's say you had a photo that had a horizon line right down the center
- [00:23:44.440]of the photo.
- [00:23:45.300]By default,
- [00:23:47.460]that horizon line is going to be right in the center of that mat.
- [00:23:51.400]So this,
- [00:23:53.360]these numbers and these percentages,
- [00:23:55.960]you really don't have to worry about these top six here by default,
- [00:24:00.300]which is none.
- [00:24:01.380]That horizon line is going to be right down the middle.
- [00:24:03.820]So let's say you have a portrait of a group shot of people and all their
- [00:24:08.600]heads are at the top of the image.
- [00:24:10.320]Well,
- [00:24:11.260]in that case,
- [00:24:11.880]you know,
- [00:24:12.300]you don't want the top of the image to be covered by the mat.
- [00:24:14.440]So here you'd choose 50% 0%.
- [00:24:17.860]So that's going to make sure that the top of the image is locked to the top
- [00:24:22.220]of the mat,
- [00:24:22.680]basically.
- [00:24:23.220]So you're going to not have those people,
- [00:24:25.840]those heads cut off.
- [00:24:26.600]Or let's say that you have an image of a squirrel on the ground,
- [00:24:31.900]but the squirrel is right at the bottom of the image and you don't want that
- [00:24:35.580]squirrel to be covered up by the mat.
- [00:24:37.460]So then that case you'd choose 50%,
- [00:24:40.200]100%.
- [00:24:40.980]So that would lock the bottom of the image to the bottom of that mat or that
- [00:24:45.860]hero.
- [00:24:46.160]And then all the other numbers are just ways to give you kind of wiggle room
- [00:24:50.540]in between.
- [00:24:51.000]We can see in this image,
- [00:24:53.580]it's pretty close to 70%.
- [00:24:55.820]It might be a little under center.
- [00:24:57.600]So we're just going to choose 60% because we want that to be this corn here.
- [00:25:03.220]I think it's corn in the,
- [00:25:05.080]you know,
- [00:25:05.520]a greenhouse center.
- [00:25:07.820]We want that to be pretty close to the middle of our image.
- [00:25:11.360]So we're going to choose 60%.
- [00:25:12.500]It's pretty close.
- [00:25:13.240]So overline,
- [00:25:15.160]we'll just say about overline.
- [00:25:16.820]Some of these are optional.
- [00:25:18.880]You don't need to fill them in,
- [00:25:20.440]but I'm going to fill them all in so you can see what it looks like.
- [00:25:25.800]So we're going to create the hero.
- [00:25:28.580]So we've created the big image at the top of our page.
- [00:25:36.140]And now I'm going to go back here to my lower Mipsim.
- [00:25:38.880]I'm going to grab some more of this text.
- [00:25:41.400]Paste this in here.
- [00:25:47.740]Click save.
- [00:25:55.780]And as you can see, that's pretty good.
- [00:25:58.340]This image looks a little blurry.
- [00:25:59.740]It's not the greatest image, but that's probably
- [00:26:01.820]about what we want to show through.
- [00:26:03.200]And if we wanted to make it taller,
- [00:26:04.620]we could change the height of it.
- [00:26:07.000]But maybe we want to add another header in here, maybe
- [00:26:10.060]another image.
- [00:26:11.400]And we want to get rid of this white space on the side.
- [00:26:13.660]So let's go back into Edit.
- [00:26:15.780]And the WYSIWYG editor allows you to kind of format stuff
- [00:26:23.960]just like you would maybe--
- [00:26:25.760]I'm just in Word, so I can come in here.
- [00:26:30.840]I can choose this.
- [00:26:33.760]If I need a hard return here, I can choose this line.
- [00:26:38.140]You can put bulleted lists, and you
- [00:26:39.780]can put links, and all kinds of stuff in here.
- [00:26:41.840]So maybe I want to put another image under this hard return,
- [00:26:46.140]so I can click this and pop back into Media Library.
- [00:26:49.980]Let's just choose this one here.
- [00:26:55.740]So again, once you insert an image from Media Library,
- [00:26:59.540]you get all these formatting options.
- [00:27:01.320]So narrow is going to be about 50% of your browser width.
- [00:27:05.220]Default is going to be whatever size the image is
- [00:27:07.440]with you uploaded.
- [00:27:08.400]And wide is going to be the full browser width.
- [00:27:11.220]And then these options just allow
- [00:27:13.320]you to choose how that image is offset with the text.
- [00:27:16.620]It's either offset left, or offset centered,
- [00:27:20.220]or floated left, or floated right.
- [00:27:22.780]We're going to float it right.
- [00:27:24.940]That's pretty good.
- [00:27:25.720]So let's say we want to add this to the navigation of our site.
- [00:27:29.960]Over here is all sort of our administrative stuff for pages.
- [00:27:33.360]And this is related to any content that you create.
- [00:27:36.220]So I can add this to the menu.
- [00:27:39.060]If you need to create a URL redirect,
- [00:27:44.540]maybe you had a page on your old site with a certain URL,
- [00:27:47.780]and the page on your new site has a different URL,
- [00:27:49.980]you could create a redirect so people would still
- [00:27:52.460]be going to the right page.
- [00:27:54.620]By default, the system
- [00:27:55.700]is going to create a clean URL for you.
- [00:27:58.480]But if you need something specific,
- [00:28:00.480]you can actually uncheck this box and create your own URL.
- [00:28:06.220]Authoring information is exactly what it says it is.
- [00:28:08.520]It just says who created the page, what time and date
- [00:28:12.020]it was created.
- [00:28:13.460]This section, we don't use this in our current system,
- [00:28:17.220]not yet at least, so you don't really have to worry about it.
- [00:28:20.060]And then Page Options gives you the ability
- [00:28:23.060]to hide the page title, which I will come back to later.
- [00:28:25.680]And you can do that as well as hide the sidebar.
- [00:28:28.580]So that was that kind of blank space on the page.
- [00:28:31.860]If you create a bunch of pages and you don't turn this off,
- [00:28:34.920]it will automatically create kind of a book page navigation.
- [00:28:37.560]It's just a way that we built into the system
- [00:28:40.400]to create a little bit more navigation on the site.
- [00:28:45.060]You can use it or not.
- [00:28:46.060]In this particular case, we don't need to.
- [00:28:48.300]Site Organization Tags.
- [00:28:51.180]Don't use this unless you-- this is kind of an advanced feature
- [00:28:55.660]that you can use to create content on your site.
- [00:29:00.140]I think we have something about this on training,
- [00:29:02.340]but I'd have to make sure.
- [00:29:04.100]So anyway, we're going to hide the sidebar.
- [00:29:06.880]We're going to save this.
- [00:29:07.940]And you can see we've got our other photo in here.
- [00:29:15.260]And we could add more formatting if we want,
- [00:29:18.540]but it's also been added to our navigation.
- [00:29:20.840]So we've got a nice little page, and we just
- [00:29:23.380]kind of use the basic page functionality
- [00:29:25.640]to add to our builder page.
- [00:29:27.540]So we are going to come back in here,
- [00:29:29.120]and we're going to add another builder page, our second
- [00:29:31.840]of three builder pages that we're going to add today.
- [00:29:35.280]So we're going to create a page called Our Trainers.
- [00:29:39.400]And rather than do anything here,
- [00:29:41.640]we're just going to save it.
- [00:29:42.820]So we've been in View, and we've been in Edit.
- [00:29:48.680]And now we're coming into the Layout tab, which
- [00:29:51.140]is kind of the really advanced functionality of this new system
- [00:29:55.620]and probably the coolest part of it.
- [00:29:57.660]So once I pop over here, you see this placeholder
- [00:30:00.900]for this little body field.
- [00:30:05.240]And so if I would have put text in the Edit tab,
- [00:30:08.020]that would show up here, because this is basically
- [00:30:09.940]just a placeholder for it.
- [00:30:11.440]Likewise is this menu that we hid on the other page.
- [00:30:14.500]Might seem a little confusing, but it's just there.
- [00:30:17.200]You won't see it when we publish the page.
- [00:30:20.320]It's just kind of a reminder that that exists.
- [00:30:22.840]So we are going to add a section.
- [00:30:25.600]And we're going to go one column.
- [00:30:30.480]So if you think about -- let me discuss this really quickly.
- [00:30:35.680]So when you add a section to a page, you're going to be prompted to choose a layout.
- [00:30:40.080]So at a very basic level, think of a builder page as tables, right?
- [00:30:45.960]You're creating rows.
- [00:30:47.640]And then within those rows, you're adding columns.
- [00:30:50.640]So your layouts just determine what those columns look like, and then once we add the
- [00:30:55.580]columns, we can start adding components, or basically the components are basically visual
- [00:31:01.260]design elements.
- [00:31:03.660]So in this particular case, we're just going to choose one column.
- [00:31:08.340]So once you've chosen the layout, then you have a bunch of other options.
- [00:31:12.140]You can create headings.
- [00:31:14.200]You can format the headings.
- [00:31:16.020]You can create anchor tags.
- [00:31:18.340]You can choose backgrounds and background patterns.
- [00:31:20.640]We're going to go light gray, and we'll just -- you know, these -- all of these
- [00:31:25.560]background colors and patterns all layer with one another.
- [00:31:29.420]So you can have a bunch of different options there.
- [00:31:33.440]The container is the width of the page.
- [00:31:36.040]So standard wrapper is kind of the edge of the navigation
- [00:31:40.580]to the edge of the navigation.
- [00:31:42.500]Edge to edge is viewport width to viewport width--
- [00:31:45.560]or viewport edge to viewport edge.
- [00:31:48.120]And then spacing is vertical height of that section.
- [00:31:51.520]So by default, you're just going to have this nice medium padding.
- [00:31:54.800]You can remove the top and or the bottom, or you can add extra padding to the top and or the bottom.
- [00:32:02.600]So this is a multi-select, right?
- [00:32:04.140]So I can click this.
- [00:32:05.960]I can hold down my command key.
- [00:32:08.020]I can choose another.
- [00:32:09.100]The deselect is also, if you hold down command, I can deselect all those.
- [00:32:14.200]So we're just going to do default here, and we're going to add this section.
- [00:32:17.680]So you can see I added this light gray background with this pattern,
- [00:32:24.000]and now it asks me to choose to add a component.
- [00:32:26.600]So when I click add a component, I have all these options,
- [00:32:32.160]and these are those ones that dropped down when I was on the trainings,
- [00:32:36.120]the documentation site.
- [00:32:37.900]So what I like to tell people is to think about these in slightly different ways.
- [00:32:43.480]So when I click add a component, I get all these options here.
- [00:32:47.360]Uh, and then I also get a more button, which is what we're going to go to.
- [00:32:51.600]When I add content, the components that are shown right here,
- [00:32:57.780]this is for content that's going to live on this page specifically.
- [00:33:02.260]There's more button has more to do with pulling content from other systems
- [00:33:10.540]or other places on the site.
- [00:33:13.220]And I'll show you what I mean by that.
- [00:33:15.740]So I'm going to click more.
- [00:33:16.840]And you can see these different items, options I have to add to this component.
- [00:33:23.940]So, in this particular case, we're going to choose people
- [00:33:28.420]because we're creating a little directory here.
- [00:33:32.420]So we're going to go lead trainer, and then I'm going to reference myself.
- [00:33:39.580]So this is again, kind of that modular thing that I was talking about.
- [00:33:43.100]We're referencing a piece of content that's created elsewhere on the site.
- [00:33:47.740]And we're going to do teaser featured, and I'm going to add this block.
- [00:33:51.120]So you can see what that looks like here.
- [00:33:55.740]And I'm going to go ahead and add another section, and then we'll see what this page
- [00:33:58.920]looks like.
- [00:33:59.340]So I'm going to add a section.
- [00:34:00.600]Again, I'm going to choose one column.
- [00:34:02.640]I'm going to kind of roll through this quickly.
- [00:34:05.800]I'm going to add a component, click more.
- [00:34:10.460]Again, I'm going to use people, and I'm going to say other trainers.
- [00:34:16.340]And then I'm going to add Eric and Saron.
- [00:34:21.060]We're also in here, and they've been added.
- [00:34:24.920]I added their people pages in a previous training.
- [00:34:27.580]And we're going to, you can see here, there's different ways to display those people.
- [00:34:31.140]So we're going to choose teaser.
- [00:34:32.340]Well, let's just do teaser.
- [00:34:36.160]Yeah, we'll do teaser.
- [00:34:38.660]They all look slightly different.
- [00:34:41.060]And then we'll click save.
- [00:34:44.140]So you can see we have kind of this directory page.
- [00:34:50.580]Our trainer, this, the lead, the featured kind of displays a little bit differently.
- [00:34:55.960]This would be for maybe like a director or somebody that you want to feature, obviously.
- [00:34:59.500]Small just shows picture and then contact information.
- [00:35:04.020]So again, you know, like any page, if we wanted to add this to our navigation, we come back into edit, go to menu settings, you know, and then I could add weight to it if I wanted to do that.
- [00:35:14.120]So I want it to be to the right and I click save.
- [00:35:16.720]So we've got our about, our trainers, we've got our web form.
- [00:35:27.300]So we're going to create a kind of a front page for our site, like a nice designed page.
- [00:35:32.980]And again, that's a builder page.
- [00:35:34.900]So we're going to come into builder and we'll just call this welcome.
- [00:35:40.120]It's going to be our splash page to our site.
- [00:35:44.100]And we're just going to skip right over to layout.
- [00:35:48.580]And we're going to add a section.
- [00:35:52.920]We're going to do one column.
- [00:35:56.860]And we'll just leave everything default for now.
- [00:36:00.080]And we'll kind of come back through here.
- [00:36:01.280]So we're going to add a component.
- [00:36:04.380]And this time we're adding content to this page.
- [00:36:07.240]We're going to add some design to content to this page.
- [00:36:09.620]So I won't have a chance to touch on all of these components, obviously.
- [00:36:14.080]Today, again, we have the documentation site that talks about all these things.
- [00:36:20.360]But we're going to do a display banner, which is kind of like a fancy hero.
- [00:36:24.440]So we're going to choose display banner.
- [00:36:27.720]And we're going to say welcome.
- [00:36:30.020]Some of these fields are optional.
- [00:36:33.200]So I'm just going to fill everything out so you can kind of see what it looks like.
- [00:36:36.460]Let's grab an image.
- [00:36:44.600]Again, we're going to choose one that has already been uploaded to save a little time.
- [00:36:49.420]So let's just choose this one.
- [00:36:54.620]So again, you can see here, maybe we don't want these people's heads cut off.
- [00:37:02.780]So we'll choose 60 to kind of bump that up a little bit.
- [00:37:14.040]So these links, these will display as buttons in our hero.
- [00:37:26.080]So let's just say, and these are kind of the things.
- [00:37:29.460]If this is a big image at the top of the page,
- [00:37:31.900]these are the most important things that we would want people to do
- [00:37:34.380]when they come to our site.
- [00:37:35.320]So in the previous system, when you're creating a URL to another page,
- [00:37:40.580]you kind of usually had to know what that looked like.
- [00:37:43.200]You'd have to grab it.
- [00:37:44.020]You'd have to get out of the URL bar in the new system.
- [00:37:46.740]If you have a page that you're linking to and you know the name of that page,
- [00:37:50.320]all you have to do is start typing it.
- [00:37:51.740]So let's just say we want people to sign up for training.
- [00:37:54.420]So we're going to go ahead and start typing sign up.
- [00:37:56.760]Sign up for training.
- [00:37:59.200]So we've just created a link to that page.
- [00:38:02.180]It'll autocomplete and you select it and it'll create a link.
- [00:38:06.980]So training, that's going to be our main button.
- [00:38:14.000]And then this display option just chooses where that information lives over the image.
- [00:38:20.660]Because like I said, this is going to display some image over the top of it or display some text and buttons over the top.
- [00:38:26.720]So we're going to see what it looks like to the right.
- [00:38:31.760]Hopefully we're not covering our people up too much.
- [00:38:34.800]So that's probably pretty good.
- [00:38:38.540]Let's save it.
- [00:38:39.800]Save early, save often.
- [00:38:41.600]It's never a bad idea.
- [00:38:43.980]So we have this big image, but we don't want the page title and we want to get rid of some of this padding.
- [00:38:50.040]So we're going to go ahead and edit this page.
- [00:38:52.500]And if you remember back earlier, under page options, we can hide that page title.
- [00:39:00.360]So we're going to hide that.
- [00:39:01.540]Click save.
- [00:39:03.140]So we got rid of the page title.
- [00:39:06.800]That's good.
- [00:39:07.280]But we want to get rid of this padding as well.
- [00:39:08.920]So we're going to come into layout.
- [00:39:13.960]And in the layout tab, there's a couple of UI elements,
- [00:39:16.860]user interface elements that will be familiar once you've created some
- [00:39:22.060]components and sections.
- [00:39:23.200]So watch me move my mouse here.
- [00:39:26.040]And as I move my mouse, you'll see these little lines show up, right?
- [00:39:29.400]So that just means that I'm in that section that I've created.
- [00:39:33.440]And you'll see that I can configure that section.
- [00:39:36.200]So the section includes this space around the image.
- [00:39:39.440]Likewise, when I've created a component, so component within,
- [00:39:43.940]a section within a layout, you'll see this little edit widget
- [00:39:48.880]in the upper right-hand part of that component.
- [00:39:51.500]So if I want to edit the component, I click there.
- [00:39:54.460]If I want to edit the section, it is in the upper left-hand.
- [00:39:57.060]So we want to get rid of this spacing.
- [00:39:59.140]So we are going to go edge-to-edge, which will make that go
- [00:40:04.080]to the edge of the viewport.
- [00:40:06.900]And then we're going to remove that default vertical spacing.
- [00:40:09.520]And then we'll update this.
- [00:40:11.580]Click Save.
- [00:40:13.920]And that is what we want it to look like.
- [00:40:18.180]It's at the top of the page.
- [00:40:19.440]And it's edge-to-edge.
- [00:40:22.380]So we're going to come back in here to Layout.
- [00:40:24.740]And we're going to add some more stuff to our page.
- [00:40:28.540]So we're going to add a section.
- [00:40:29.920]We're going to add a two-column section this time.
- [00:40:32.620]So under two-column, you have the ability to change the widths
- [00:40:36.980]of those columns.
- [00:40:37.560]So maybe you want one wider and one more narrow.
- [00:40:40.860]This is where you would change that.
- [00:40:43.160]In this particular case, we're going to change the width
- [00:40:43.900]In this particular case, we're going to go 50-50.
- [00:40:45.240]We're just going to leave all this other stuff default.
- [00:40:48.280]So then you can see I have the ability to add two different components
- [00:40:52.600]to this section.
- [00:40:53.900]And you'll notice, if you look closely,
- [00:40:56.940]that these list of components is slightly different
- [00:40:59.720]than what you'd get if you add a full-width
- [00:41:03.340]or a single-column component.
- [00:41:05.100]It's just mostly because some components look good smaller,
- [00:41:08.700]some components look good larger.
- [00:41:13.880]We're going to choose a card,
- [00:41:15.040]which is basically what it says it is.
- [00:41:17.600]It looks like a baseball card or a Pokemon card or whatever.
- [00:41:20.740]You get an image, you get some text you can put under that,
- [00:41:24.820]and then there's like a link.
- [00:41:25.820]So this headline, maybe we want them to learn more about us.
- [00:41:33.360]So maybe learn more about our department, right?
- [00:41:35.680]So again, this is a link field.
- [00:41:39.340]So we know we have it about our department page, right?
- [00:41:43.860]I just start typing and boom, we've created a link to about our department.
- [00:41:47.860]So I can say about Overline.
- [00:41:51.040]Again, these are optional.
- [00:41:52.260]I'm just going to fill them in so you can see what they look like.
- [00:41:54.620]Add an image here.
- [00:41:57.420]I'm going to kind of roll through this quickly.
- [00:41:58.920]I'm just going to choose some that have already been created or uploaded rather.
- [00:42:06.620]So learn more about what we do.
- [00:42:13.840]And then you can choose a background for that card.
- [00:42:19.240]So I'm going to go ahead and save that.
- [00:42:21.880]You can see that it created a big image, slightly gray background,
- [00:42:27.140]and then, you know, the text and all that.
- [00:42:29.560]The headline is the link.
- [00:42:30.880]So keep it balanced.
- [00:42:32.960]We're going to go ahead and add another card.
- [00:42:34.620]And we're going to say learn about our people.
- [00:42:41.860]We're going to skip this.
- [00:42:43.820]We're going to skip this headline link because I want to show you something that's really cool.
- [00:42:46.580]So we'll say people, overline, people, subhead.
- [00:42:52.220]Add an image.
- [00:43:13.800]And then you'll notice if I, since I did not fill in the headline link field, I now have the option of adding buttons to the bottom of this card.
- [00:43:28.160]So I can say, you know, what is it, trainers?
- [00:43:31.900]Is that our site or our page?
- [00:43:33.940]Trainers.
- [00:43:35.200]Our trainers.
- [00:43:36.680]So I've created a link to our trainer page.
- [00:43:40.680]So we're going to say meet our people.
- [00:43:43.780]So not only do we have all these different components that you can add to your layout,
- [00:43:59.300]but within the components themselves, there are oftentimes lots of different options.
- [00:44:04.620]So in this particular case, I'm not filling out this headline link,
- [00:44:08.900]and I can add buttons at the bottom of my card.
- [00:44:11.100]Again, we're going to show you what this looks like.
- [00:44:13.760]If I were doing this for real, I would probably make sure that these had a similar design style,
- [00:44:22.460]so I'd make sure that either both of them were using the headline link
- [00:44:26.040]or both of them were using button links.
- [00:44:27.560]I mostly just showed you that to give you an idea of how many options there are in this new system
- [00:44:33.520]in terms of layout and design options.
- [00:44:36.400]Even within the components themselves, there's lots of different item options.
- [00:44:40.880]So we got a good start to our page.
- [00:44:43.740]Again, I'm going to save it just to make sure it saves.
- [00:44:47.640]And then I'm going to pop in here and make a few more edits.
- [00:44:51.000]So let's say we want to add news and events to our page.
- [00:44:55.640]So we're going to add a section here.
- [00:44:57.320]I'm going to roll through this pretty quick.
- [00:45:00.860]I have a few more things to cover.
- [00:45:02.220]I'm going to go ahead and add this section.
- [00:45:04.580]I'm going to add a component here.
- [00:45:06.940]Again, this is something we're pulling from another system or elsewhere on the site.
- [00:45:11.160]We're going to add events.
- [00:45:12.840]So we're going to click.
- [00:45:13.720]More.
- [00:45:14.040]And we're going to click.
- [00:45:15.140]Upcoming events.
- [00:45:16.000]So another nice feature of the new system.
- [00:45:19.300]You don't have to know JavaScript or CSS.
- [00:45:21.800]Which on the old system.
- [00:45:23.500]If you wanted to add events to your site.
- [00:45:26.100]You had to know those things.
- [00:45:27.380]So in the new system.
- [00:45:28.400]All you have to know is the URL to your events calendar.
- [00:45:31.340]So we're going to go ahead and add this.
- [00:45:32.900]And it pops it in automatically.
- [00:45:36.100]Likewise.
- [00:45:37.100]You know, if we want to add.
- [00:45:38.400]News to our site.
- [00:45:40.140]Which is kind of like what those news events were loading in the bottom of the news item.
- [00:45:43.700]We're just going to add this section.
- [00:45:47.040]Add a component.
- [00:45:49.680]Go more.
- [00:45:51.380]And we're going to click news aggregation.
- [00:45:55.120]Go ahead and say latest news.
- [00:46:00.080]And we'll choose four.
- [00:46:03.440]Click save our page.
- [00:46:13.680]And, you know, we could adjust this to make sure it goes edge to edge.
- [00:46:19.380]And we can maybe clean up the spacing a little bit here.
- [00:46:21.700]But otherwise, we have a pretty good looking first page.
- [00:46:24.100]So we've already touched on these first three tabs.
- [00:46:28.860]And then this revisions tab shows you all the edits that have been made to a
- [00:46:35.080]page since it was created and who made them.
- [00:46:36.960]So let's say, oops, I want to go back.
- [00:46:39.700]I don't really need that, either the events or
- [00:46:43.660]news.
- [00:46:47.440]I could just come back to this previous update.
- [00:46:50.280]This is also helpful if you have a bunch of people editing your site.
- [00:46:53.940]You can see who made changes if you need to maybe roll something back or,
- [00:46:58.080]you know, just to see who's been editing your pages.
- [00:47:00.760]This last tab is a really cool function.
- [00:47:05.180]So let's say we like this page we just created and we want to do something
- [00:47:09.600]very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:47:11.660]Maybe we don't want everything, but we want to do something very similar.
- [00:47:13.640]So let's say we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:47:43.620]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:48:13.600]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:48:43.580]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:49:13.560]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:49:43.540]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:50:13.520]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:50:43.500]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:51:13.480]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:51:43.460]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:52:13.440]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:52:43.420]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:53:13.400]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:53:43.380]Maybe we want to do something very similar for another page on the site.
- [00:54:13.360]And we'll save that.
- [00:54:14.180]What doesn't it like here?
- [00:54:20.140]That was weird.
- [00:54:33.140]All right, so you can see I roll over this.
- [00:54:40.040]It's created a link to that PDF.
- [00:54:43.780]And then we have this video that's embedded in our page.
- [00:54:48.360]So that is kind of the gist of adding content, linking content, creating links, all that.
- [00:54:55.940]I want to touch on one more quick thing.
- [00:54:58.480]So when you add people to the site, people show up here, and they have different roles on your site.
- [00:55:07.880]So if I want to add somebody to the site, for instance, you know, I could add...
- [00:55:13.320]You can either search by name or, you know, username.
- [00:55:18.620]You choose them.
- [00:55:20.540]You add them to the site.
- [00:55:21.680]Anyway, I don't know why that happened.
- [00:55:29.360]I can see everybody that has access to my site here.
- [00:55:32.640]I'm going to click edit.
- [00:55:35.860]And so once I add a user to the site, then I have these different options of the roles
- [00:55:43.300]that I can give them.
- [00:55:44.160]So site admin can do everything on the site that I did today.
- [00:55:48.820]They can add content.
- [00:55:50.920]They can edit content.
- [00:55:52.160]They can add users.
- [00:55:53.680]They can remove users.
- [00:55:54.700]They can create web forms, all that.
- [00:55:59.400]So under configuration, we have some other options.
- [00:56:02.940]So these are the basic site settings.
- [00:56:04.900]So this is the title of your site.
- [00:56:09.440]You know, if you need to add an affiliation, so an affiliation.
- [00:56:13.280]Is like the little title above your site title, like this.
- [00:56:16.620]That is your affiliation.
- [00:56:19.200]Here's your homepage.
- [00:56:20.380]If you are a site admin, you can change all those things.
- [00:56:24.680]Even in the site configuration.
- [00:56:26.000]An editor role is somebody who can only add content and edit content.
- [00:56:32.700]They can't add users to the site.
- [00:56:34.320]And they can't change any of the site configuration things.
- [00:56:38.740]Viewer role is kind of the tier down from that.
- [00:56:43.440]And the viewer can only view content on your site regardless of its published state.
- [00:56:52.780]So what I mean by that, when I come into content and I'm editing a page.
- [00:56:59.800]So I'm editing a page.
- [00:57:03.220]By default, a page will be published when you click save.
- [00:57:06.320]So that means if it's linked in your navigation, anybody who comes to the site can see it.
- [00:57:13.240]Or anybody who has the URL to that page.
- [00:57:16.360]We have other publishing statuses for content.
- [00:57:21.740]So unpublished, if I were to click unpublish and save this page, then the only people who could see that page are people who have access to the site.
- [00:57:32.000]So anybody who's a site admin, anybody who's an editor, and anybody who's a viewer.
- [00:57:36.440]We also have a status called draft.
- [00:57:40.700]So draft would be a new.
- [00:57:43.220]New version of the page that you're creating that is kind of, you know, living in a draft status until it is published.
- [00:57:51.140]So the viewer role is we kind of like to call it the approver role.
- [00:57:55.720]So let's say your supervisor says, hey, I need three new pages on this particular subject on our website.
- [00:58:02.940]Can you add them?
- [00:58:04.280]But before you make them published, I want to give a look to, you know, I want to look at them and make sure they're good to go before you publish them.
- [00:58:13.200]In that particular case, you would add those pages and you would make sure that they are unpublished and you would save them.
- [00:58:21.980]You could then share the links to those unpublished pages with somebody with the viewer status.
- [00:58:30.380]And when they were logged in, they would be able to see those pages and give you a thumbs up or thumbs down.
- [00:58:35.340]So those are the roles of people that you can add to site and then what they can do on the site.
- [00:58:43.180]So that is really all I have for today's training done in one hour exactly.
- [00:58:51.420]If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the chat or just speak up.
- [00:58:57.260]Let me look at these messages here.
- [00:58:59.080]See if everything got answered.
- [00:59:01.340]Okay, it looks like it got updated.
- [00:59:08.100]Yep, yep.
- [00:59:10.000]The field number.
- [00:59:13.160]Second number reference.
- [00:59:14.680]Okay.
- [00:59:16.040]Documentation.
- [00:59:17.900]All right.
- [00:59:18.340]Does anybody else have any questions for today that maybe wasn't answered in the chat or
- [00:59:26.600]wasn't answered in going through the training?
- [00:59:28.800]Anyone?
- [00:59:37.680]I will say that depending on the next
- [00:59:43.140]meeting, you mean the next training or the next WDN meeting?
- [00:59:47.160]The next training is in June.
- [01:00:01.380]So I guess that's one last thing I could mention.
- [01:00:05.120]So everything CMS related is on CMS.
- [01:00:13.120]CMS.unl.edu. So obviously if you signed up for this training,
- [01:00:17.960]you were here at this site previously because you have to sign up for this training through here, attend this training.
- [01:00:22.400]We have, I think it's every third Tuesday at
- [01:00:28.060]nine. So we have some for, we have a date for June
- [01:00:32.940]and a date for July. I don't think I've put August on there yet.
- [01:00:36.400]So this is where you can also request a site if you need a new site.
- [01:00:43.100]This is also where you can make your site public.
- [01:00:44.800]If your site is ready to go with a subdomain,
- [01:00:47.760]maybe you've created your site and it's good to go and you want it published
- [01:00:52.400]at widgets.unl.edu. There's another step. If you want widgets.unl,
- [01:00:57.660]that's subdomain has to be approved first,
- [01:01:00.480]but this is where you do all of the things for your site.
- [01:01:05.340]I think, yeah, that's about it. Are yes.
- [01:01:13.080]Trainings are basically all the same as today. And I, like I said,
- [01:01:17.200]I will send a recording of this training around all of these introduction
- [01:01:21.420]trainings are pretty much exactly like today's trainings where I go through
- [01:01:24.920]all the basic features of the, of the CMS.
- [01:01:28.260]I have an advanced training that I did a video of it,
- [01:01:34.240]and it is on the CM in the CMS documentation site.
- [01:01:38.240]If you go clear to the bottom on the right,
- [01:01:40.040]there's one that's called intro and advanced video training.
- [01:01:43.780]I also recently did a web form specific training that was about 45 minutes.
- [01:01:48.960]I will probably add that web form training to that site somewhere,
- [01:01:54.940]or just chop it all up and add the specific things that you can do with a
- [01:02:00.160]web form to the site.
- [01:02:01.400]So yeah, these are all pretty much the same training,
- [01:02:04.760]just to kind of get you going.
- [01:02:06.000]I will also say if you do not have access to it yet,
- [01:02:11.160]we have a,
- [01:02:13.040]a Slack channel where there's 400 plus people who are building,
- [01:02:18.120]you know, websites on there.
- [01:02:20.180]If you have questions, if you have issues,
- [01:02:23.300]that's probably the best place to go day to day.
- [01:02:26.660]Cause there's a lot of people on there who are developing or,
- [01:02:31.740]you know, building out websites in the CMS.
- [01:02:34.560]So if you do not have access to the UNL Slack,
- [01:02:40.300]I'm going to put my email in here.
- [01:02:43.020]You can send me an email and I can make sure I give you access to our Slack
- [01:02:50.580]channel for our people who are building.
- [01:02:54.260]Yeah.
- [01:02:56.800]Any other questions?
- [01:03:13.000]If you think of anything, email me or hop on the Slack channel
- [01:03:17.180]and pop in there and ask your questions.
- [01:03:18.940]Otherwise, going once, going twice.
- [01:03:21.880]Anyone else?
- [01:03:25.120]No?
- [01:03:27.220]All right.
- [01:03:28.080]Thank you all and have a good rest of your day, everybody.
- [01:03:31.560]Thank you, everybody.
- [01:03:31.640]Thank you.
- [01:03:31.740]Thank you.
