- [00:04:42.880]and share your own culture with people from different countries.
- [00:04:47.480]Have you ever thought that you would use the whole of English
- [00:04:51.340]to integrate into a completely different learning environment
- [00:04:53.740]and grow up in a completely different culture?
- [00:04:56.320]And now,
- [00:04:57.040]you have done it!

- [00:05:32.260]and be sure that you are prepared to face any challenge.
- [00:05:36.340]Don't be afraid of facing the world.
- [00:05:38.800]Work hard to accomplish your dreams.
- [00:05:41.600]As Chancellor Bennett once said, "Be bold and be courageous."
- [00:05:46.800]I can't wait to see where the future takes you

- [00:06:22.960]As Chancellor Bennett once said, "Be bold and be courageous."
- [00:06:28.420]I can't wait to see where you are going in the future.
- [00:06:30.280]I also look forward to hearing your wonderful life stories.

- [00:07:09.900]as well as the administration, the faculty, the staff from
- [00:07:14.780]Northwest Ag and Forestry, the families and friends of our
- [00:07:18.640]graduates who are joining us online,
- [00:07:20.780]as well as the faculty, staff, and administration from the
- [00:07:24.800]Food Science Department and the University of Nebraska,
- [00:07:27.480]I do also want to welcome you on behalf of the College
- [00:07:30.000]to today's important celebration.
- [00:07:33.900]And I also want to thank our distinguished guests from
- [00:07:36.500]Northwest Ag and Forestry for joining us today.
- [00:07:39.440]It's fitting given that we are celebrating the 10th year
- [00:07:42.540]anniversary of this amazing 3+1 partnership.
- [00:07:48.840]I went off script a little bit, sorry.
- [00:07:50.600]All right.
- [00:08:13.240]So today's event is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our
- [00:08:16.700]graduates and celebrate your accomplishments.
- [00:08:19.800]To the graduates, I extend congratulations on behalf of the
- [00:08:31.240]college for reaching this significant milestone.
- [00:08:34.600]You did it.
- [00:08:36.260]You have worked hard and today we honor your
- [00:08:49.760]success and your dedication.
- [00:08:52.860]To the families and friends of the graduates that are joining
- [00:09:01.960]us online, we also want to say congratulations to you and
- [00:09:05.560]extend our appreciation for sharing your students with us
- [00:09:09.000]here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:09:12.000]Graduation is not only a very special time for our graduates
- [00:09:24.600]and their families, but it's also very special to the faculty
- [00:09:28.100]and staff and the administration here at the University of
- [00:09:30.960]Nebraska.
- [00:09:41.960]We have had the pleasure of getting to know this very
- [00:09:45.460]talented group of students, the opportunity to help them
- [00:09:49.360]discover their unique talents and strengths, and we've
- [00:09:52.920]witnessed firsthand their development as professionals
- [00:09:56.420]and leaders.
- [00:09:57.420]So thank you again to the faculty,
- [00:10:11.920]and the staff here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:10:15.080]specifically the Department of Food Science and Technology,
- [00:10:18.320]as well as those at Northwest Ag and Forestry.
- [00:10:20.880]And at this time, I would ask those individuals to please
- [00:10:24.480]stand so that we can give you a round of applause.
- [00:10:27.060]Yeah.
- [00:10:29.880]Sarah?
- [00:10:32.080]Thank you to the professors of the Northwest Agricultural
- [00:10:41.880]College, the faculty, staff, and the executive team,
- [00:10:44.880]as well as all of the graduates of the Department of
- [00:10:47.280]Science and Technology of the University of Lincoln.
- [00:10:49.280]Okay, I'm going to go off script for a minute, okay?
- [00:10:51.280]All right.
- [00:10:52.280]I also want to do a special shout-out to John and his
- [00:10:56.040]family who are in the back of the room.
- [00:10:58.180]I think all of the students know that John consistently
- [00:11:01.680]goes above and beyond to support you,
- [00:11:05.040]to help you get engaged.
- [00:11:06.840]And he's invested in each of you.
- [00:11:09.380]And as you know, he has an amazing wife,
- [00:11:11.840]and amazing children.
- [00:11:13.680]And they do a lot to support this program.
- [00:11:16.480]So let's have them stand, and let's give them
- [00:11:18.280]a special thank you.
- [00:11:19.380].
- [00:11:43.580]They're just amazing.
- [00:11:44.580]Just say it that way.
- [00:11:45.340]Yeah.
- [00:11:45.640]Yeah.
- [00:11:47.180].
- [00:11:49.340].
- [00:11:54.580]Thank you.
- [00:11:55.080]You're welcome.
- [00:11:55.780]OK.
- [00:11:56.280]So now to the graduates.
- [00:12:02.420]As you begin this exciting new chapter,
- [00:12:05.120]I encourage you to continue to take charge of your future
- [00:12:08.660]and to challenge yourself not just to meet expectations,
- [00:12:12.620]but to exceed expectations.
- [00:12:15.800].
- [00:12:19.300].
- [00:12:19.800]Many individuals have guided and supported you on your journey.
- [00:12:33.520]And to this point, they have been instrumental.
- [00:12:36.820]And so today, we not only celebrate you,
- [00:12:39.020]but we also celebrate those contributions
- [00:12:41.820]and those mentors and family members who have been
- [00:12:44.920]so instrumental in your success.
- [00:12:48.060].
- [00:12:49.260]So as you begin this next chapter,
- [00:13:04.600]a new set of questions comes into focus.
- [00:13:07.780]First, what will you do with this moment?
- [00:13:11.020]Second, what is your purpose?
- [00:13:13.320]And third, what impact will you make?
- [00:13:17.020]I invite you to think of yourself
- [00:13:19.220]as an entrepreneur, not necessarily
- [00:13:21.680]in the traditional sense of someone
- [00:13:23.780]starting a startup business, but someone
- [00:13:26.660]who takes ownership and control of their destiny.
- [00:13:32.100]Entrepreneurs don't shy away from uncertainty or failure.
- [00:14:00.140]They embrace both as growth opportunities.
- [00:14:02.060]They set bold goals and dream big.
- [00:14:13.780]They persevere through challenges, they take strategic risk, and they hold themselves to
- [00:14:18.500]high standards.
- [00:14:19.500]In many ways, entrepreneurs are not afraid of failure.
- [00:14:32.020]In many ways, that is who you already are and who you are becoming.
- [00:14:42.620]You are the dreamers, the doers, and the difference makers, and I am so confident that our global
- [00:14:48.100]society is in great hands with all of you.
- [00:15:01.980]So again, congratulations to the graduates, and thank you for our partners at Northwest
- [00:15:06.600]Ag and Forestry for partnering with us to truly create a one-of-a-kind program that's
- [00:15:12.340]really focused on student success and making sure that we are going to have an impact for
- [00:15:17.300]our global society.
- [00:15:22.760]I keep going off script for him.
- [00:15:31.940]Give our translator a round of applause, please.
- [00:15:37.900]I was just going to shake your hand.
- [00:15:51.900]Thank you.
- [00:16:01.900]Good morning, my friends.
- [00:16:14.860]For all of you family members tuning in on the live stream, hello to you too.
- [00:16:25.320]My name is John Tesley.
- [00:16:31.860]And this is Jiang Yidong.
- [00:16:36.820]I grew up in Thailand.
- [00:16:40.820]Yes, I am Thai.
- [00:16:44.820]I studied here at UNL, and my job here is to help your sons and daughters to be as successful as they can be.
- [00:17:01.820]To my friends, you all did it! Good job!
- [00:17:06.780]So I don't normally make speeches, so instead I will share with you a few life tips that I try to stick with.
- [00:17:18.780]So these are 10 tips from John.
- [00:17:25.780]Maybe they'll be useful for you.
- [00:17:31.780]In Thailand, we say "Jai Yin Yin", which means, which translates to "relax, calm down, you'll be okay, cool your heart", is the direct translation.
- [00:17:55.740]It means "don't be stressed".
Jai Yin Yin
- [00:18:09.700]When you came, I know many of you were scared because it's a new place and there are many unknown things.
- [00:18:24.700]It's a different place and the news and the social media is always telling us some scary things.
- [00:18:36.700]But you came anyway, and doing the things that help you to grow even when you're scared proves that you are brave.
- [00:18:49.700]So number two, keep being brave.
- [00:18:55.700]Number three of John's life tips, try to go to as many events with free food as possible.
- [00:19:08.620]Number four, when someone tells you to do something new, just do it.
- [00:19:18.620]Unless it's illegal, then don't do it.
- [00:19:24.620]Because you never know when you might find something you really enjoy or really hate.
- [00:19:34.580]But that's how you grow your experience.
- [00:19:39.580]Number five, keep your eyes open and you will see things.
- [00:19:46.580]You'll see beautiful things in the world, you'll see new friendships to make, and you'll see new opportunities to grasp.
- [00:19:58.580]And you'll see people to be kind to.
- [00:20:10.500]So, keep your eyes open.
- [00:20:14.560]Which leads to point number six, be kind.
- [00:20:19.900]You never know what someone is going through.
- [00:20:25.080]And be kind to them.
- [00:20:28.260]Number seven.
- [00:20:31.540]Go to bed early.
- [00:20:32.120]Sleep is amazing.
- [00:20:38.000]Number eight.
- [00:20:38.740]Learn from people who are twice your age
- [00:20:40.900]and those who are half of your age.
- [00:20:47.700]Because you never know where wisdom will come from.
- [00:20:54.540]Number nine.
- [00:20:55.180]Go for a walk in the sun.
- [00:20:56.420]It's good for you.
- [00:21:01.500]Number ten.
- [00:21:01.960]Keep smiling.
- [00:21:02.700]You are in an extremely fortunate position.
- [00:21:05.580]So make sure to tell yourself so.
- [00:21:13.700]Finally, my friends.
- [00:21:15.060]I am so proud of you and so very happy for you.
- [00:21:22.980]I will miss you all.
- [00:21:24.000]So you must promise to come back and visit me, okay?
- [00:21:31.460]Again, congratulations and all the best for your future.
- [00:21:37.180]I'd like to invite our students to come up as well.
- [00:22:06.800]Dear respected teachers, beloved parents, and fellow classmates, good morning.
- [00:22:25.760]It is a great honor for me to speak on behalf of the students from the 7th cohort,
- [00:22:31.380]on this very special day, and to share with you the joy of our graduation.
- [00:22:47.880]Time is like the wind that drifts gently through our campus,
- [00:22:52.380]silently passing through the seasons and carrying away the four years of our youth.
- [00:22:57.380]Unknowingly, we have come to the end of our journey.
- [00:23:01.340]One that has been both fulfilling and unforgettable.
- [00:23:33.300]During our first three years at NWFU, the sunrises and sunsets we shared quietly captured the moments of laughter, perseverance, and the challenges we faced together.
- [00:23:46.300]We chased the morning light in the library and building 8, studied late into the night, stayed focused in the lab, and supported one another through difficulties.
- [00:23:56.300]These moments have become treasured and heartwarming memories.
- [00:24:01.260]Just as we were getting used to and growing comfortable in the familiar rhythm of university life,
- [00:24:27.220]a new chapter quietly began to unfold.
- [00:24:31.220]At that time, we may not have fully realized how different the coming year would be or how deeply it would shape us.
- [00:24:39.180]In our fourth year, we crossed the ocean and arrived at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the United States.
- [00:25:01.180]The pandemic experience at UNL has not only broadened our horizons,
- [00:25:06.140]but also brought profound changes in the way we approach learning and scientific inquiry.
- [00:25:31.140]We have learned the process of food development from raw materials to final products,
- [00:25:35.140]learned to use rigorous logic to analyze data, design experiments, and find improvement methods,
- [00:25:41.100]and really participated in the process of independent thinking, finding problems, and solving problems.
- [00:25:46.100]Unlike the textbook-centered learning we were used to,
- [00:25:49.100]the focus here was on critical thinking and independent exploration.
- [00:25:54.100]In the Food Science and Technology Seminar, we learned to approach lectures with questions
- [00:26:01.100]in deep discussions with professors.
- [00:26:04.060]In the Product Development Lab, we experienced the full process from raw materials to final products,
- [00:26:10.060]analyzing data, designing experiments, and seeking improvements through independent thinking and problem solving.
- [00:26:19.060]These transformations have not only strengthened
- [00:26:31.060]our academic skills, but also laid a solid foundation for our future pursuits
- [00:26:36.020]in graduate studies, scientific research, or careers in industry.
- [00:26:41.020]This past year, we not only
- [00:27:01.020]gained academic knowledge, but also faced the challenges of
- [00:27:05.020]living independently abroad. Adapting to a new language,
- [00:27:09.020]culture, and daily life wasn't easy, but it was these
- [00:27:13.020]very experiences that helped us grow and become more resilient.
- [00:27:30.980]For instance, many of us
- [00:27:34.980]still remember our love-hate relationship with room key
- [00:27:38.980]cards, getting locked out again and again, until some of us
- [00:27:42.980]even collected stacks of spares as souvenirs of those early
- [00:27:46.980]struggles.
- [00:28:00.940]Or take the everyday English phrases we once struggled with, now they come naturally. A simple thank you on the bus and a warm have a good day in return. These small moments quietly brought us closer to the university and the country.
- [00:28:30.900]Of course, the deepest feeling has been our longing for family and home. During late night deadlines, we think of the light left on for us, or a warm bowl of noodles, love and support that give us strength to carry on.
- [00:29:00.860]Today, as we celebrate graduation, we are not just marking the end of our studies. We are honoring the courage to leave home, the effort to adapt, and the strength to overcome challenges. Each memory is a footprint of how we crossed language, cultural, and cultural boundaries.
- [00:29:30.820]and stepped into the maturity. It hasn't been easy, and that's exactly why we should wholeheartedly applaud ourselves.
- [00:30:00.780]Of course, we have not been fighting alone all this time.
- [00:30:08.740]In this special moment, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my classmates, my parents, and my family.
- [00:30:14.740]They are far away, but their hearts are always with us.
- [00:30:18.740]In order to make us learn in peace, they have suffered too much.
- [00:30:22.740]They are our strongest backing, and without their support, we would not have been able to graduate today.
- [00:30:30.740]Of course, we were never alone on this journey.
- [00:30:36.700]At this special moment, on behalf of all my classmates, I want to sincerely thank our parents and families.
- [00:30:43.700]Though miles apart, their hearts were always with us.
- [00:30:47.700]To let us focus on our studies,
- [00:30:49.980]They quietly carried countless worries.
- [00:30:53.250]They've been our strongest support.
- [00:30:55.630]And without their love and sacrifices,
- [00:30:58.190]we wouldn't be here today.
- [00:31:00.030]Wherever we go, their love will remain our guiding light.
- [00:31:03.930]-
- [00:31:21.930]- I'd also like to extend special thanks
- [00:31:24.290]to our navigator, John.
- [00:31:26.370]As our first guide in a foreign land,
- [00:31:29.150]he patiently supported us,
- [00:31:31.230]making life easier and giving
- [00:31:32.950]specially first time
- [00:31:33.930]international students a much-needed sense of security and comfort.
- [00:31:38.930]Finally, I would like to thank all the teachers and leaders in Xidong.
- [00:31:43.010]Thank you for your strict requirements and careful training in the past three years.
- [00:31:47.330]You have helped us to establish a firm professional foundation.
- [00:31:53.930]I would also like to thank the teachers and staff of UNL.
- [00:31:56.690]You have provided us with comprehensive academic guidance and life-saving assistance in this year,
- [00:32:00.970]allowing us to focus on learning in a strange environment.
- [00:32:04.490]And finally, our deepest gratitude goes to the teachers,
- [00:32:08.890]and staff at NWFU.
- [00:32:11.650]Thank you for your high standards and dedicated guidance over the past three years,
- [00:32:16.730]which built a solid foundation for our learning.
- [00:32:19.930]We are also sincerely grateful to the faculty and staff at UNL
- [00:32:24.650]for their academic mentorship and support this past year,
- [00:32:28.650]helping us focus fully on our studies in a new environment.
- [00:32:33.930]Thank you for the time spent together for four years,
- [00:32:38.850]helping us realize our dreams and achievements.
- [00:32:41.810]At this moment, some students may have packed their bags and ready to return home.
- [00:32:45.810]Some students may have to continue their studies or start their career.
- [00:32:49.810]I would like to send my best wishes to each and every one of you.
- [00:32:52.810]May we all continue to stay passionate and curious in the future,
- [00:32:57.810]and be a warm and firm person.
- [00:32:59.810]When we meet again in the future,
- [00:33:01.810]may we all continue to share the warm evening with each other.
- [00:33:05.810]May our parents and teachers be healthy,
- [00:33:08.810]and may we all do our best in the future.
- [00:33:11.810]Four years of studying together
- [00:33:17.810]have forged bonds that will last a lifetime.
- [00:33:21.810]Thank you to every classmate and friend who walked beside us.
- [00:33:25.810]Your companionship made this journey truly meaningful.
- [00:33:29.810]Now, some are packing to return home,
- [00:33:32.810]while others prepare for further studies or new careers.
- [00:33:36.810]To all of you,
- [00:33:38.770]my sincerest wishes,
- [00:33:40.730]may you always keep your curiosity and passion,
- [00:33:43.730]and be kind, brave, and strong in whatever path you choose.
- [00:33:47.730]When we meet again someday,
- [00:33:49.730]I hope we can smile as we remember the gentle evening skies of our campus.
- [00:33:54.730]To our dear parents and teachers,
- [00:33:57.730]I wish you good health and continued success.
- [00:34:00.730]Until the 3+1 program between MWAFU and UNL,
- [00:34:05.730]I wish even greater achievements
- [00:34:08.730]in the years ahead.
- [00:34:10.690]Congratulations on our graduation,
- [00:34:19.690]and may our future be bright and full of promise.
- [00:34:22.690]Thank you all.
- [00:34:24.690]Thank you.

- [00:36:53.690]you walked into Northwest AF University
- [00:36:55.690]with dreams in your heart.
- [00:36:57.690]Although Yangling is not as prosperous
- [00:36:59.690]as other big cities,
- [00:37:01.690]it has a green campus
- [00:37:03.690]and a rich academic atmosphere
- [00:37:05.690]that makes you feel at home.
- [00:37:07.490]Four years ago,
- [00:37:29.490]you stepped into Northwest AF University
- [00:37:31.490]with dreams.

- [00:37:37.490]it's a three-lined campus
- [00:37:39.490]and a rich academic atmosphere
- [00:37:41.490]that nurtures you.
- [00:37:43.490]You listened attentively
- [00:37:45.490]in the classroom of Building A.
- [00:37:47.490]Good to know.

- [00:37:53.490]of the College of Food Science,
- [00:37:55.490]studied hard in the library,
- [00:37:57.490]and engaged in discussions
- [00:37:59.490]in the 3+1 program office.
- [00:38:01.490]These moments
- [00:38:03.490]are a testament to how
- [00:38:05.290]you rooted yourself
- [00:38:07.290]in China's agricultural heritage
- [00:38:09.290]while sharpening your skills.
- [00:38:11.290]Last August,
- [00:38:13.290]you crossed the border
- [00:38:15.290]with China
- [00:38:17.290]and made the world

- [00:38:35.290]This is a testament
- [00:38:37.290]to how you moved forward
- [00:38:39.290]in your life.
- [00:38:41.090]You moved across the ocean
- [00:38:43.090]and brought the spirit of
- [00:38:45.090]Northwest A&F University
- [00:38:47.090]to UNL. From overcoming language
- [00:38:49.090]barriers upon arrival

- [00:39:10.890]integrity, simplicity,
- [00:39:12.890]courage, and perseverance.
- [00:39:14.890]Students,
- [00:39:16.890]this year is a special one for you.
- [00:39:18.890]You have to complete your
- [00:39:20.890]fourth-year course at UNL,
- [00:39:22.890]and face the challenges of
- [00:39:24.890]cross-region communication and
- [00:39:26.890]writing your graduation thesis.
- [00:39:28.890]You have to work closely with
- [00:39:30.890]domestic teachers
- [00:39:32.890]to optimize the time
- [00:39:34.890]and advance your research.
- [00:39:36.890]You have completed a high-quality thesis task.
- [00:39:38.890]In the process, you have shown

- [00:39:56.690]Class of 2025,
- [00:40:02.690]yours is a unique cohort.
- [00:40:04.690]And not only did you accomplish
- [00:40:06.690]the fourth-year studies at UNL,
- [00:40:08.690]but you also navigated
- [00:40:10.690]the challenges of
- [00:40:12.690]cross-time zone communication
- [00:40:14.490]and thesis writing.
- [00:40:16.490]Yet through close collaboration
- [00:40:18.490]with the faculties
- [00:40:20.490]and peers back home,
- [00:40:22.490]you efficiently managed the fragmented time
- [00:40:24.490]to advance your research
- [00:40:26.490]and complete your thesis
- [00:40:28.490]with excellence.
- [00:40:30.490]The resilience and teamwork you demonstrated
- [00:40:32.490]have set a strong example
- [00:40:34.490]for future students.

- [00:42:03.890]and Dr. Martini, the chair
- [00:42:05.890]of our department, and
- [00:42:07.890]former chair of

- [00:42:27.690]Let's give another round of applause.
- [00:42:29.690]Of course, you did.
- [00:42:31.690]-
- [00:42:46.850]Graduate, commencement is not just the end, but also a new beginning.
- [00:42:52.010]As you embark on the next chapter, I would like to share three hopes with you, three wishes with you.
- [00:42:58.310]First, may you become the bridge between civilization and mutual understanding, and build a community of human fate with an open mind.
- [00:43:11.310]You have not only gained a variety of academic ideas in the course of cross-cultural education, but also experienced the unique values of different civilizations.
- [00:43:20.310]I hope that in the future, no matter where you are, you can break the barrier of culture with the heart of tolerance,
- [00:43:27.310]to use dialogue instead of confrontation, to use understanding to resolve prejudice.
- [00:43:33.310]In international cooperation, we must integrate Chinese wisdom into global development,
- [00:43:38.310]and also bring the world's excellent achievements back to the motherland,
- [00:43:42.310]to become practitioners in promoting cultural exchanges and mutual understanding,
- [00:43:45.310]so that the ideas of the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States and the United States
- [00:43:48.310]can shine in practice.
- [00:43:52.310]First, may you become bridges of the cultural exchange
- [00:43:56.310]fostering a global community with a shared future
- [00:44:00.310]through open-mindedness.
- [00:44:02.310]In cross-cultural classrooms, you have gained not only
- [00:44:06.310]diverse academic perspectives, but also appreciation
- [00:44:11.310]for the unique value of different civilizations.
- [00:44:15.310]Whenever your life takes you, may you break down
- [00:44:18.310]cultural barriers with inclusivity, replace the
- [00:44:22.310]confrontation with dialogue, and dissolve prejudice
- [00:44:25.310]with understanding.
- [00:44:28.310]Through international collaborations, integrate
- [00:44:31.310]China's wisdom into global development while bringing
