- [00:00:00.000]Hi everyone, thanks for joining us today. My name is Kate Rayome. I serve as the Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:10.000]I also, as a part of my role, serve as the advisor to the Interfraternity Council.
- [00:00:15.000]And today we'll be talking a little bit more about how to join an IFC or an Interfraternity Council fraternity chapter on our campus.
- [00:00:23.000]So first and foremost, when we're talking about joining an IFC fraternity, we also want to talk a little bit more about why we believe that students should join the overarching fraternity and sorority community specifically on our campus.
- [00:00:36.000]And so on the screen here, you'll see some data from a Gallup poll that was conducted in 2021, specifically around fraternities and sororities and some of their experiences and outcomes that our students have gained through their college work and different life aspects.
- [00:00:52.000]And so you'll see.
- [00:00:53.000]There's 5 different subject areas around well being career, social, financial community and physical well being.
- [00:01:00.000]But you'll also notice that the green line. So the top line for each of the 5 categories represents students who are a part of a fraternity or sorority organization versus the blue line below, which is exponentially smaller and represents students who are not.
- [00:01:14.000]And so we're seeing that students based on this data and other information who are a part of fraternity and sorority communities like doing what they do.
- [00:01:22.000]Like doing what they do each day for their career. They have strong and supportive relationships in their social well-being.
- [00:01:28.000]They're really excelling at managing their economic life and reducing stress and increasing security through financial well-being.
- [00:01:35.000]They're liking where they live. They're feeling safe. They're having pride in their community with their sense of community well-being.
- [00:01:41.000]And then also they're having good health and enough energy to get things done throughout the day through their physical well-being.
- [00:01:47.000]All of these were based on questions that supported the fraternity and sorority experience.
- [00:01:51.000]And as you can see, based on the data, our students who are part of this community are thriving exponentially in multiple areas of well-being, even in life after college, too.
- [00:02:01.000]So this is a big reason why we support the fraternal movement.
- [00:02:04.000]We also want to talk a little bit more about our history at UNL as well.
- [00:02:08.000]The University of Nebraska-Lincoln was established in 1869, and just six short years later, our first IFC fraternity chapter was established in 1875.
- [00:02:18.000]So our community is very, very deeply ingrained.
- [00:02:20.000]into the social experience here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:02:25.000]And we are one of very few campuses nationwide to be able to celebrate our 150th year of fraternity and sorority life on a college campus this fall.
- [00:02:34.000]So we're excited and looking forward to some homecoming events and different opportunities for members from all four of our councils on our campus to come back and visit us and help celebrate our community.
- [00:02:45.000]After our first IFC chapter was established, we were joined by our first women's sorority panel.
- [00:02:49.000]And I think association chapter in 1884 in 1916, we were joined by our first national panel or NPHC Council chapter as well.
- [00:03:00.000]And NPHC is often referred to as the divine nine.
- [00:03:03.000]This refers to historically black and African-American fraternities and sororities.
- [00:03:09.000]And then in 1998, we were joined by our first NGC chapter, which stands for the Multicultural Greek Council and our organizations that focus on different multicultural groups.
- [00:03:18.000]We focus on different multicultural or specifically cultural interests that include both fraternities and sororities.
- [00:03:25.000]And so across these four councils or these four areas that chapters can fall under, we have over 55 different individual and unique fraternity and sorority chapters on our campus.
- [00:03:36.000]So, so many different opportunities and different experiences for students to come and join us in the fraternity and sorority life or FSL community through these different organizations.
- [00:03:47.000]More specifically about the Interfraternity Council or the IFC. So the IFC is overseen by the North American Interfraternity Conference or the NIC so this is their overarching international umbrella organization that all IFCs fall under.
- [00:04:02.000]The NIC is a trade association that represents 58 international or national men's fraternities, and they provide direct support resources and different services to IFC officers, representatives in the fraternal community.
- [00:04:16.000]Advisors like myself, alumni support, etc., and really their main mission is to further the health and success of local fraternity communities.
- [00:04:26.000]Then moving to the IFC or the Interfraternity Council, this is the local fraternity community level.
- [00:04:33.000]And so an IFC exists on a college campus where there are two or more NIC member or non-member fraternities on that campus.
- [00:04:40.000]We at Nebraska have 24, so we very much exceed the two minimum.
- [00:04:45.000]The IFC is a self-governed organization, so self-student governed council that's overseen by nine executive council positions.
- [00:04:54.000]So nine collegiate men who are part of an IFC fraternity chapter who have come together to really help steer the ship and shape the experience of our local fraternity community, plus an IFC advisor like myself.
- [00:05:06.000]The role of the IFC is to advance the fraternal movement on a college campus through things like advocacy, marketing, collaboration,
- [00:05:14.000]education and accountability. Like I mentioned, we have 24 IFC fraternities that are all represented by their crest and organization name on this screen.
- [00:05:25.000]And so the beauty of having so many organizations within one council under the IFC on our campus is that all of these different organizations have different unique values.
- [00:05:35.000]Membership experiences, they range in size of organization. And so we have a lot to choose from when it comes to incoming male students.
- [00:05:43.000]Who are interested in fraternity and really providing them the opportunity for them to select the best organization that best fits what they're looking for in the fraternal experience that they're expecting while they're here on our campus.
- [00:05:58.000]We also want to talk a little bit more about the values overarching of the fraternity and sorority community.
- [00:06:02.000]So I just mentioned each of our individual IFC fraternities has their own set of values.
- [00:06:07.000]But we all come together as one council, one overarching community across our four councils.
- [00:06:12.000]And so these are the four key subject areas that we focus on as an FSL community.
- [00:06:17.000]Before I get into those four areas, I do think it's important to talk a little bit more about our community size as well.
- [00:06:23.000]So the FSL community accounts for just over forty four hundred students on UNL's campus.
- [00:06:29.000]We're about twenty three percent of the undergraduate student body.
- [00:06:33.000]And our IFC community accounts for nineteen hundred plus students.
- [00:06:36.000]We're actually just about to tip over to the 2000 number mark. So the IFC community
- [00:06:41.000]is just under 50 percent of our overall fraternity and sorority community.
- [00:06:45.000]And so we're very proud to be a prominent organization in the community.
- [00:06:49.000]Again, we have four different areas of our pillars of value within the fraternity and sorority community.
- [00:06:55.000]So the first one being academic achievement. Our students are students first and before anything at all else.
- [00:07:02.000]And so we want to make sure that they're excelling in the classroom.
- [00:07:05.000]They're being held accountable for the grades that they're earning in their in their daily work,
- [00:07:10.000]but also on their exams and at the end of the term. We also want to make sure they get connected to resources, too.
- [00:07:15.000]And so all of those things to really help excel the academic achievement of our students is really heavily provided in the fraternal experience.
- [00:07:24.000]We're very proud of our all Greek male GPA average being a three point three zero,
- [00:07:29.000]which is slightly higher compared to students who are not a part of the fraternity community at a three point one eight.
- [00:07:35.000]And so we're seeing through that data and other experiences our students are having,
- [00:07:39.000]is that they're being held accountable to earning high academic achievement.
- [00:07:43.000]But they're also, again, being connected with resources, gaining support,
- [00:07:47.000]meeting students in their major that are also part of their fraternity and really being ingrained in the academic community through the fraternal experience.
- [00:07:56.000]Our next FSL community value is leadership development.
- [00:08:00.000]This is personally my favorite one and the one that I love to work with students on the most.
- [00:08:04.000]There are so many different opportunities for leadership development,
- [00:08:08.000]whether you realize it or not, through being a member of a fraternity or sorority organization.
- [00:08:13.000]The first one being chapter leadership. So each individual organization has their own executive board that really, again,
- [00:08:19.000]sears the ship and really helps to form the overall experience of that individual organization or chapter.
- [00:08:26.000]But we also have some higher level positions like our council leadership,
- [00:08:30.000]like those nine executive members that I mentioned in a previous slide that can help shape a little bit more outside of the scope of just the individual chapter.
- [00:08:37.000]Experience, but they're really helping to shape the overall fraternity and sorority community experience on our campus as well.
- [00:08:45.000]Outside of some of those elected officer positions, students could also participate in committees.
- [00:08:50.000]Committees are a great way for you to get some low stakes leadership development experience,
- [00:08:54.000]connect with other students with similar interests and really have to grow yourself as an individual.
- [00:09:00.000]There are always so many different topic areas for committees, whether it's planning for Greek week or homecoming or being a part
- [00:09:06.000]of the judicial or accountability process. There are so many opportunities for committees within your own individual organizations in FSL,
- [00:09:14.000]but also, again, council wide or serving the greater fraternity and sorority life community, too.
- [00:09:20.000]And then finally, so many opportunities for conferences, regional meetings,
- [00:09:24.000]different ways for students to connect with other fraternity and sorority life professionals like the staff in our office,
- [00:09:30.000]organization headquarters staff from their own organizations, other members of their chapters or organizations,
- [00:09:35.000]all across the country, learning and discussing different topic areas as they relate to fraternity and sorority life.
- [00:09:42.000]So conferences are always a really great way for students to gain some additional information and insight into the community, too.
- [00:09:49.000]Our third value is civic engagement. So there's really three different areas in this value that include philanthropy, community service and advocacy.
- [00:09:58.000]Philanthropy is really focused on fundraising or raising dollars towards a specific cause or organization.
- [00:10:04.000]And so that's really where we're focusing on. And so that's really where we're focusing on.
- [00:10:07.000]And so this could be from hosting a wing night at your chapter house where members or local students in the area, family members can participate, can purchase a ticket to come eat wings or whatever the food is you're serving that night.
- [00:10:20.000]And all the proceeds will go towards a specific cause.
- [00:10:24.000]We've also got another some other variety or ranges of different philanthropic events like car washes, concerts, really just different ways for students to participate.
- [00:10:33.000]Different ways for students to plan fun events that are really engaging for the community, build that community and belonging sense, but also are raising dollars towards organizations that they're really passionate about.
- [00:10:43.000]Community service is a little bit more of that hands on experience through civic engagement.
- [00:10:48.000]And so this could include things like volunteer hours, doing things with your hands, showing up for the local community or again, a specific organization that your that your chapter is proud of and wants to support.
- [00:11:02.000]There are a lot of different ways for students to get involved through community service and our office, along with other offices around student involvement on campus, are always happy to provide opportunities for community service.
- [00:11:14.000]Finally, advocacy is really just raising awareness about a specific cause or organization that your fraternity or sorority is passionate about.
- [00:11:21.000]So helping to educate the greater fraternity and sorority community, but also the campus and local Lincoln community about specific causes or organizations in need that you're trying to support through advocacy.
- [00:11:31.000]Our fourth and final value of fraternity and sorority life is community and belonging.
- [00:11:36.000]And so we firmly believe that any student can find their home in a fraternity or sorority organization on our campus as long as they keep their options open.
- [00:11:45.000]Again, within IFC specifically, we have 24 organizations that are all so unique and different.
- [00:11:51.000]And so there are really so many ways for students to find the best possible fit for them.
- [00:11:56.000]One statistic that we're very, very proud of in the fraternity and sorority community
- [00:12:00.000]is our retention rates. And so this data shows retention from first year to second year students.
- [00:12:06.000]So students who were here for their first or freshman year and re-enrolled in classes for the second year.
- [00:12:12.000]And we're very proud of our IFC retention being at 93 percent.
- [00:12:16.000]Our overall UNL retention rate for first to second year students is 85.2 percent.
- [00:12:21.000]So we're almost 10 percent higher because our students are finding a sense of community,
- [00:12:25.000]a sense of belonging. They're forming lifelong friendships. They're finding purpose through their community.
- [00:12:29.000]They're finding a lot of alignment with the values of the organization that they've chosen to join.
- [00:12:35.000]And so we're very proud that our students are seeing high retention rates as a cause of their fraternity or sorority involvement.
- [00:12:43.000]We also have a high emphasis on well-being within our community, not just within our community,
- [00:12:47.000]but also the local Lincoln area and UNL as a campus has a really high emphasis on well-being.
- [00:12:53.000]But specifically within all of our IFC chapters, we have what's called a care chair or well-being committee.
- [00:12:58.000]A care chair or well-being chair whose sole officer position is connecting members of their chapter with different resources on campus,
- [00:13:05.000]all encompassing well-being, sharing with them different events that they can attend or opportunities that they could take a part in to really help promote well-being in multiple different dimensions on campus and within the chapters as well.
- [00:13:20.000]OK, so we've talked a lot about the community, fraternity and sorority life as a whole, what our values are, our community size at a glance.
- [00:13:27.000]But now we're going to move a little bit more into how to join.
- [00:13:30.000]So what does the IFC recruitment process look like on our campus at UNL?
- [00:13:34.000]The IFC practice is an informal recruitment process.
- [00:13:37.000]And so this might be a little bit different than some other of our peers in the Big Ten or across the local Midwest area.
- [00:13:45.000]But we really have an informal recruitment process. So there's no structured recruitment week or structured recruitment at all.
- [00:13:52.100]events that students attend. It's very informal. So recruitment events are held starting in the
- [00:13:57.300]summer for incoming first-year students. So they're starting here at the end of May 2025
- [00:14:01.100]and we practice what's called 365 recruitment. So they start at the end of May and they go all
- [00:14:07.440]year long until the end of next May. Incoming first-year students can join the summer leading
- [00:14:12.860]into their first semester here at UNL. They can also wait until they get to campus and get
- [00:14:17.760]established and join a fraternity chapter their fall or spring semester of their first year as
- [00:14:23.040]well. So there's no pressure or no rush for them to be joining the summer before they start their
- [00:14:29.680]freshman year, but there are plenty of opportunities for them to make that choice if they would like
- [00:14:33.700]to. Current or transfer students can join an IFC fraternity at any point in the year.
- [00:14:38.460]And every IFC chapter participates in summer recruitment. So again, if you're an incoming
- [00:14:43.640]first-year student, you want to join a fraternity chapter, you want to get a glimpse of all
- [00:14:47.660]24. They're all participating in recruitment events throughout the summer. And between
- [00:14:52.000]24 of them, there are over 120 different recruitment events that will be hosted this summer that
- [00:14:56.760]are all open for students who are interested to join and get to know the men in their chapter,
- [00:15:02.020]learn about the values of their organization, signatory events that they host, what the
- [00:15:06.500]member experience looks like, all of those great things. So there's lots of opportunities
- [00:15:09.980]starting in the summer, but again, pushing into the fall and spring semesters as well
- [00:15:13.980]for students to join fraternity.
- [00:15:15.380]I do want to point out that I'm not going to be sharing all of the information that
- [00:15:17.560]out some social media engagements, especially with working with currently Gen Z students. Instagram
- [00:15:23.160]is just the number one way for them to share information with each other and we recognize that
- [00:15:26.980]so we want to support them in that. So the first one that I would check out is the Nebraska IFC
- [00:15:31.980]Instagram page. This is a general IFC Instagram page. So this is going to showcase what the overall
- [00:15:37.880]IFC community looks like on our campus, highlighting achievements and events and different things
- [00:15:42.640]happening in all 24 of our IFC chapters. But then as it relates to recruitment, the next one down
- [00:15:48.640]is UNL IFC recruitment. And so this is an Instagram page, more recruitment focused. And so this will
- [00:15:54.740]provide chapter spotlights that showcases high level information about each IFC chapter. The IFC
- [00:16:01.160]recruitment registration link, which I'll talk about in the next slide, is linked on there.
- [00:16:05.040]The recruitment chairman contact from each chapter. So students can be reaching out to each chapter
- [00:16:09.960]individually through the recruitment chairman.
- [00:16:12.300]And so much more. And so that's a really great resource for students to be following and engaging
- [00:16:16.880]with if they're interested in the recruitment process for IFC. And then finally, individual
- [00:16:21.620]chapters on our campus all have their own Instagram page. So they're posting their recruitment events
- [00:16:26.020]or their summer or fall recruitment schedules, their contact information, but also showcasing
- [00:16:31.500]what else they're hosting throughout the year as well. So if you want to get a glimpse of an
- [00:16:35.800]overarching chapter, just their organization individually, their own individual Instagram
- [00:16:41.960]pages are a really great resource for students to gain some more information on them.
- [00:16:45.620]A little bit more about the recruitment process. So as I alluded to, in order to participate in
- [00:16:51.840]the IFC recruitment process, students must complete the IFC recruitment registration form.
- [00:16:56.720]It is required for students to register for recruitment in order to participate.
- [00:17:00.340]There is no deadline for students to have this completed by because again, we practice 365 year
- [00:17:06.880]round recruitment. So once you're registered, your information will be shared with all 24
- [00:17:11.620]individual chapters and they will be able to review that and reach out to you for more
- [00:17:16.700]information about the recruitment events or to connect with you. But in order to participate,
- [00:17:21.180]again, there's no deadline, but students are required to fill out the recruitment registration
- [00:17:25.840]form. It's linked on the QR code on the right side of the screen as well. IFC chapters can
- [00:17:31.280]begin offering bids to incoming first year students on Sunday, May 18th, 2025. So it's
- [00:17:37.120]always the Sunday after undergraduate commencement. We want to make sure that our incoming students
- [00:17:41.280]are graduated from high school and they're fully ready to embrace the next chapter through
- [00:17:45.820]their collegiate experience by joining fraternity. And so that's why we have that deadline. Again,
- [00:17:50.900]we practice 365 day recruitment. So while it starts on May 18th, it will go all year
- [00:17:55.960]long until next May. But May 18th is the first day your student could be extended a bid or
- [00:18:01.560]an invitation to membership in a fraternity. Recruitment chairman, again, will have access
- [00:18:06.080]to your student's application once it's submitted and they might contact them after reviewing
- [00:18:10.240]it.
- [00:18:10.940]If they think that your student might be a good fit in their chapter, want to get to
- [00:18:13.820]know them a little bit more at a recruitment event, et cetera. Your student could be invited
- [00:18:18.000]to a wide array of different activities. So ranging from sporting events throughout the
- [00:18:22.420]summer, open houses or grill outs at chapter facilities, pool or lake days, volleyball
- [00:18:29.460]tournaments. We already have registered. So, so many opportunities across all four
- [00:18:33.500]chapters for your students to join an open recruitment event and come and learn a little
- [00:18:37.660]bit more about their organization. And most of our organizations,
- [00:18:40.600]we'll host, of course, events for incoming or prospective students, but also oftentimes
- [00:18:45.360]for parent and families to gain some more information about the organization that their
- [00:18:49.360]student is joining as well. We highly, highly, highly recommend as an office that incoming
- [00:18:55.080]first year men visit as many chapters of interest as possible so that you can help make the
- [00:19:00.360]best decision for you. We want to make sure that you're joining an organization that you
- [00:19:04.520]align with their values. You're excited about what their membership experience has to offer.
- [00:19:09.600]You really connect.
- [00:19:10.260]And find a sense of community and belonging with the men that you've met throughout the
- [00:19:13.680]open recruitment events. And so we highly, highly recommend because we have so many IFC chapters,
- [00:19:19.080]too, that students visit as many as possible to, again, just make sure you're making the absolute
- [00:19:23.720]best lifelong decision for you. A little bit more about the membership selection process. So this
- [00:19:29.920]is really what to expect before receiving that bid or an invitation to membership, but then also
- [00:19:35.200]what you can expect after receiving the bid as well. So before receiving a bid, students can
- [00:19:39.920]be contacting recruitment chairman, again attending open recruitment events, exploring multiple
- [00:19:45.360]chapters, but we also really encourage that students research the international or national
- [00:19:50.560]organization. Our 24 IFC chapters have a chapter here at UNL, but they are all national or international
- [00:19:58.560]organizations, so they have multiple chapters at multiple other schools and headquarters staff that
- [00:20:04.160]help support them. And so we really want to encourage students to research the overarching organization
- [00:20:09.580]to see what the bigger picture is that they're joining outside of just the chapter here at UNL.
- [00:20:14.780]And then of course you can visit the IFC webpage on unl.edu/greek, but again most of the information
- [00:20:21.660]will be mirrored on the Instagram pages for easy access as well. After you've received a bid or that
- [00:20:27.580]invitation to membership, a student will be asked to complete the FSL membership form on InvolveU.
- [00:20:34.220]And so the FSL membership form really pings our office to put the student on our radar that
- [00:20:39.240]hey, they're a new member of XYZ fraternity chapter. So we're going to get their first name,
- [00:20:43.880]their last name, their year in school, contact info, emergency contact information, etc. So that
- [00:20:49.960]we can now include them on our student roster and start sending them information about the
- [00:20:54.060]community. Accepting a bid is a commitment to becoming a member. So again, we only would like
- [00:20:59.480]for students to accept their bid once they are 100% for sure that this is the organization that
- [00:21:04.680]they want to be a part of. There should not be any timeline or time constraint,
- [00:21:08.900]that an organization is placing on you to accept your bid by. You can keep it in your back pocket
- [00:21:14.480]for as long as you need to until you feel like you're ready to accept. And so we want to make
- [00:21:18.860]sure that everybody keeps that in mind too, is that you have all the time in the world to make
- [00:21:22.700]the best decision for you. Once you've accepted a bid, if you then decide to decline the bid after
- [00:21:28.720]you've already accepted it, you must wait a 30 day period before accepting a bid from another
- [00:21:33.700]IFC chapter. Really this rule comes from the Interfraternity Council Executive Board's
- [00:21:38.560]nine governing students. Really want to put a high emphasis on students making the right
- [00:21:44.000]decision for them the first time. And so they want to make sure that you're taking the time
- [00:21:48.120]to create a well thought out decision. You know that this is the organization for you
- [00:21:52.620]before officially accepting a bid. It also helps prevent some in and out from new member
- [00:21:58.260]lists from all 24 organizations. So again, it's really just in place to make sure you're
- [00:22:03.020]making the best possible decision for you. One opportunity that's really important to
- [00:22:08.220]me that's really great about our Interfraternity Council on UNL's campus is that we have access
- [00:22:12.980]to housing, but not only housing, but first year housing for students within the facilities
- [00:22:18.040]as well. So 17 of our 24 IFC chapters have facilities. They are all owned and operated
- [00:22:24.520]by the individual organization. They are not on university property, although they are
- [00:22:28.920]very close to university property. So they look like they are when they're right across
- [00:22:33.040]the street. But they are all individually owned and operated by each fraternal organization.
- [00:22:37.880]So they are not operated by university housing, our office, or any university entity. First
- [00:22:45.360]year students can live in university approved housing chapter houses though. The UNL first
- [00:22:52.420]year experience requires that all first year students have an on-campus residency requirement.
- [00:22:57.940]So if you're a first year freshman here at UNL, you're required to live in university
- [00:23:02.120]residence halls, whether that be suite style, traditional style, etc. The one exception
- [00:23:07.540]to that is if your fraternity chapter that you're joining has a facility, because again,
- [00:23:11.860]not all of them do, and they maintain university approved chapter status. So this means that
- [00:23:16.480]they have applied to the university to be approved for first year members to live in
- [00:23:21.080]their facility. And it also comes with a lot of other responsibilities as well, like making
- [00:23:25.440]sure you have a full time live in house director, your housing facility is safe and up to code,
- [00:23:31.620]but they are alcohol, drug and weapon free facilities, etc. And so all 17 of our chapters
- [00:23:37.200]with facilities do maintain this university approved housing status. So if your student
- [00:23:41.980]is joining a chapter with a facility, they will be able to move into it their first year.
- [00:23:47.080]Each chapter has different requirements, whether or not they require their first year student
- [00:23:50.920]to live in the facility. So that would be a great question for your student to ask as
- [00:23:54.880]they're attending some of those open recruitment events is, hey, am I required to live in the
- [00:23:59.080]chapter facility my first year.
- [00:24:00.580]We also have some information about cost as well. And so for live in membership, so this
- [00:24:06.860]includes your room board meals parking wi fi, but it also includes your cost of membership
- [00:24:13.140]or your dues as well for our to across our 24 chapters.
- [00:24:17.040]This can range anywhere from about 8200 to $1,300 per year. Again, this is all inclusive
- [00:24:23.620]of all your housing meal plan all of the things, plus your cost of membership as well.
- [00:24:29.680]And oftentimes our fraternity housing is slightly cheaper than living in a university housing
- [00:24:35.520]unit as well.
- [00:24:36.520]So we're very proud of that for out of house membership.
- [00:24:39.580]So if your chapter has a facility, but you're not required to live in your first year or
- [00:24:44.340]second, third or fourth year, you could expect membership dues being ranged from 2500 to
- [00:24:49.220]about $4,500 per year.
- [00:24:51.820]And then for our non house chapters, so our seven IFC chapters that do not have facilities,
- [00:24:57.320]your membership dues could range anywhere from 900 to $2,000 per year.
- [00:25:01.760]The difference between out of house and non house membership dues is because oftentimes
- [00:25:06.180]chapters with facilities, if you're not living in the chapter house will still provide meals,
- [00:25:11.180]overnight accommodations here and there and things like that.
- [00:25:13.300]So that's why you might see a price increase between those last two.
- [00:25:16.960]Alrighty, our final piece of information that we'd like to share with everyone is our signature
- [00:25:22.200]Greek getaway event.
- [00:25:23.420]So this is a annual event hosted by the Interfraternity Council in partnership with our office.
- [00:25:28.780]And this year it will be the weekend of Friday, June 13, through Sunday, June 15, 2025.
- [00:25:34.660]This is a weekend long.
- [00:25:35.840]IFC recruitment event.
- [00:25:37.420]So all 24 of our IFC chapters participate in this event.
- [00:25:41.420]It's primarily geared towards out of state students to give them the opportunity to come
- [00:25:44.940]to campus for a condensed amount of time and meet with all of the fraternity chapters if
- [00:25:49.520]they would like to join over the summer.
- [00:25:51.360]But it is open to in state and any and all students who are interested in IFC fraternity
- [00:25:55.680]as well.
- [00:25:57.080]Each chapter has the opportunity to host up to five recruitment events throughout the
- [00:26:00.340]weekend.
- [00:26:01.340]And so the first night we'll do an orientation, there'll be some tabling where you can meet
- [00:26:05.500]for, get to know what their recruitment schedule is going to be that weekend, and it really
- [00:26:09.520]from there is choose your own adventure of which chapters you'd like to go meet with
- [00:26:13.260]during those open recruitment event times.
- [00:26:15.680]We do offer overnight accommodations and the university suites and meals at the Willa Cather
- [00:26:19.780]Dining Complex.
- [00:26:21.520]So once you register on the QR code on the right side or through our Instagram or website,
- [00:26:26.600]you can select overnight accommodations.
- [00:26:28.360]But if you're from the local Lincoln area and you'd like to sleep at your own home,
- [00:26:31.980]we do have a day pass that just includes registration fee and meals as well.
- [00:26:35.480]Again, you can register through the link in the Instagram bio or on the QR code on
- [00:26:39.520]the right side.
- [00:26:40.520]And we also really want to emphasize, well, this is a great opportunity for students to
- [00:26:44.400]join fraternity.
- [00:26:45.980]This is not a required event for PNMs to participate in in order to participate in recruitment
- [00:26:51.320]or receive a bid from a chapter.
- [00:26:53.080]It's just an additional opportunity.
- [00:26:54.680]So again, not required, but it's really great if you're available to come join us the second
- [00:26:58.700]weekend of June.
- [00:27:01.200]If anyone has any questions, please, please, please reach out to the Office of Fraternity
- [00:27:04.720]and Sorority Life.
- [00:27:05.460]Our main contact phone number is on there.
- [00:27:08.300]You can ask for anyone on our staff to ask questions to about IFC recruitment, but also
- [00:27:12.840]our website is linked there too, where you can find our individual staff contact information,
- [00:27:17.640]information about the Interfraternity Council and the other three councils in our community
- [00:27:21.140]as well.
- [00:27:22.140]So please, if you have questions, just let us know.
- [00:27:25.120]That's what we're here to do is to help field some of those.
- [00:27:27.780]And then finally, the resource site is linked on here, so you'll find this presentation
- [00:27:31.180]and others from the New Student Enrollment Team, and with that, we hope you all have
- [00:27:35.440]a great rest of your summer.
- [00:27:36.880]Welcome to the UNL community, and Go Big Red!
- [00:27:39.200]Thank you.
