[00:00:19.080]to you with the Pressure Canner Testing Roadshow!
[00:00:22.540]Join me - Brittany Spieker, your local Food, Nutrition, and
[00:00:26.040]Health Extension Educator, as I travel across the region
[00:00:29.000]offering FREE dial-gauge pressure canner testing.
[00:00:33.400]It’s quick, easy, and could prevent serious food safety issues down the road.
[00:00:37.400]So, grab a pen and paper -
[00:00:38.740]you’re going to want to write down these dates and locations.
[00:00:43.080]Here’s where you can find me to get your pressure canner tested:
[00:00:46.360]On Wednesday, May 28th, from 9:00am to 11:30am
[00:00:50.360]I’ll be at the Holt County Extension Office in O’Neill.
[00:00:54.300]Then, in the afternoon, from 1:30 to 4:00pm
[00:00:57.560]I’ll be at the Boyd County Extension Office in Butte.
[00:01:01.220]On the next day, Thursday, May 29th, I’ll be at my office
[00:01:04.580]at the BKR Extension Office in Ainsworth from 8:30am to Noon,
[00:01:09.577]and again 1:00 to 4:30pm that day.
[00:01:12.780]And finally, on Friday, May 30th, I’ll be at the
[00:01:15.480]Cherry County Extension Office in Valentine from 9:00am to Noon.
[00:01:19.660]Now, you can drop off your canner ahead of time
[00:01:22.300]or bring it in during those designated hours.
[00:01:25.100]Eitherway, I’ll give it a thorough check.
[00:01:26.960]And here’s what I’ll be doing:
[00:01:28.340]First I'll check your gauge accuracy.
[00:01:31.560]I'll use a professionally-calibrated
[00:01:32.980]master gauge to compare your canner’s dial.
[00:01:35.986]If your gauge is off by more than two pounds, it’s time for a replacement.
[00:01:39.986]I'll also examine your sealing ring.
[00:01:42.766]Those rubber seals can crack or wear out over time,
[00:01:46.159]leading to poor seals or steam leaks.
[00:01:48.580]I will check for flexibility, cracks, and proper fit.
[00:01:52.280]Next I'll examine the vent pipe, air vent, and overpressure plug.
[00:01:56.620]These small components are critical to safe pressure regulation.
[00:02:00.139]I’ll check that nothing is clogged, missing, or damaged.
[00:02:03.879]And finally I'll assess just the general condition
[00:02:06.942]of your canner from rusty screws to warped lids.
[00:02:10.559]I’ll give the canner a visual inspection
[00:02:12.695]to make sure everything looks be in working order.
[00:02:15.820]This whole process takes just a few minutes but it can make
[00:02:19.460]all the difference in the safety of your food preservation efforts.
