- [00:00:00.000]Hey Extension, it's Lisa Caslon. Today's roadside reflection is about thriving through change.
- [00:00:09.900]We're all trying to navigate new leadership and university shifts, and change is hard.
- [00:00:15.840]This week I've spent a lot of time talking to many of you, and I realize that everybody is worried about the possible change.
- [00:00:24.240]Even when change brings opportunity, it still is a bit nerve-wracking.
- [00:00:29.520]Right now we're experiencing shifts in leadership, strategy, and possibly even structure, and it's natural to feel uncertain, but it's also a chance to reset, refocus, and step up in new ways.
- [00:00:42.720]And let's be honest, it's really okay to feel frustrated, anxious, or even a little skeptical about what's going on.
- [00:00:49.960]For those of you who have taken emotional intelligence training, acknowledging how all this is making you feel is excellent self-awareness.
- [00:00:58.360]Change isn't just a new organizational chart or a new process on how we do something.
- [00:01:03.820]It's a shift in how we work, how we communicate, and how we lead.
- [00:01:08.020]Acknowledge those feelings. They're real, but don't stay stuck in them.
- [00:01:13.160]Use them as signals to move forward with intention and clarity.
- [00:01:16.680]When the ground is shifting, your foundation matters more than ever.
- [00:01:21.560]Go back to your purpose, your why.
- [00:01:24.680]What brought you to Extension?
- [00:01:27.200]Who are you here to serve?
- [00:01:28.760]When you hold on to that core clarity, it becomes your compass,
- [00:01:32.920]even when everything else feels in a flux.
- [00:01:35.500]As systems evolve and strategies change, some things stay the same.
- [00:01:42.830]your passion, your relationships, and your ability to make a difference.
- [00:01:47.110]Those are the constants.
- [00:01:48.930]Let them anchor you as everything else finds its place.
- [00:01:52.630]I encourage you to take a moment to reflect.
- [00:01:56.190]What kind of colleague, leader, or community partner do you want to be during this season of change?
- [00:02:01.710]Let that vision guide your actions.
- [00:02:04.270]It's a powerful way to lead, no matter what your title or your role.
- [00:02:08.670]Here's something simple to try this week.
- [00:02:12.410]Write down what's within your control, your attitude, your priorities, your connections.
- [00:02:17.730]Then list one or two things you can do to influence or adapt to the change that's happening around you.
- [00:02:23.790]Maybe that's asking a question to get clarity, showing support to a colleague, or sharing a recent success with your supervisor.
- [00:02:32.250]If you're feeling overwhelmed, try creating a clarity checklist with three things that you need to know, three things that you can do today.
- [00:02:41.990]And three people you can connect with this week.
- [00:02:44.950]It's a small act, but it brings structure to the uncertainty.
- [00:02:49.210]And above all, stay connected.
- [00:02:52.070]Don't isolate yourself.
- [00:02:53.770]Reach out, share ideas, and check in with each other.
- [00:02:57.930]Transitions are lighter when we carry them together.
- [00:03:01.910]Yes, change can feel overwhelming, and there's probably likely more change to come.
- [00:03:08.350]But it can also be a catalyst for creativity,
- [00:03:11.570]growth, and renewed purpose.
- [00:03:13.170]Be the calm, steady presence your office, your community, or your team can count on.
- [00:03:19.090]That's leadership in action.
- [00:03:20.790]Have a great day.
- [00:03:23.350]Thank you.
- [00:03:23.470]Thank you.
