- [00:00:13.750]I'd like to congratulate our students on the dedication
- [00:00:17.208]and resolve that it takes to complete academic coursework,
- [00:00:21.416]and the investment you are making in yourself.
- [00:00:25.166]Your University of Nebraska–Lincoln education
- [00:00:28.500]will provide you with many opportunities–
- [00:00:31.833]some of which you may not fully be able to
- [00:00:34.416]imagine and embrace at this time.
- [00:00:38.041]I also want to especially
- [00:00:40.083]congratulate each of you–undergraduate, graduate,
- [00:00:44.333]and professional students– who graduate this semester.
- [00:00:48.708]This has been an outstanding year for the university,
- [00:00:53.250]despite the many pressures we are all feeling.
- [00:00:57.250]Our enrollment
- [00:00:58.375]has increased, as has student retention,
- [00:01:02.250]research funding and expenditures,
- [00:01:05.000]private giving, academic rankings,
- [00:01:08.166]faculty recognition, and more.
- [00:01:11.416]I am so grateful for the perseverance and commitment
- [00:01:15.708]of our faculty and staff to student success.
- [00:01:20.000]We were able to succeed despite significant challenges.

- [00:01:26.875]prepare for the end of this academic year,
- [00:01:30.500]I'd like to ask each of you– students, faculty, and staff–
- [00:01:35.375]to once again re-commit to our guiding principles
- [00:01:40.041]that every person and every interaction matters.
- [00:01:44.458]We are a rich community of individuals
- [00:01:48.625]from different backgrounds and different beliefs,
- [00:01:52.375]and it is critically important
- [00:01:54.916]that each person on our campus is able to see evidence
- [00:02:00.000]that they are valued and that they are respected.

- [00:02:12.541]and engage in an environment that encourages them to be

- [00:03:59.583]a budget shortfall in a manner that does not sacrifice our bright future.

- [00:04:08.208]we must do all of this together.
- [00:04:12.583]We often say and believe that “There is
- [00:04:15.291]absolutely no place like Nebraska,” and that is true.
- [00:04:20.166]The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is a place where students can enroll
- [00:04:25.250]and take advantage of the opportunities
- [00:04:27.750]of an R1 Big Ten comprehensive
- [00:04:30.583]research university, and do so while developing personal
- [00:04:35.458]and professional relationships that truly last a lifetime.
- [00:04:41.250]The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is the place it is because of its people,

- [00:04:49.375]in which you have elevated the university this year.
