[00:00:00.000]Hi, my name is Claire Snodgrass. I am a senior microbiology major here at UNL. I'm from the
[00:00:15.400]Papillion-Springfield area just south of Omaha. And what I love about CASNR is the people,
[00:00:21.160]honestly. I love how kind and generous and hospitable everyone is and people smile at
[00:00:26.240]you when you walk around campus, which is really amazing and reminds me of home. One
[00:00:30.100]way that joining CASNR has really impacted my career goals, I came in wanting to be pre-med.
[00:00:36.700]I knew I wanted to work in infectious diseases, but I wasn't sure really where I wanted to
[00:00:40.860]settle with that. And I thought pre-med might be an option until I really found a research
[00:00:45.300]lab. I actually ended up working in a plant pathology lab, which was still diseases, but not necessarily
[00:00:50.920]an interest area that I really had. However, I just fell in love with
[00:00:54.330]research through and through and that's where I'm going from this point on for
[00:00:59.030]my career is research instead of pre-med. So post-graduation I plan to attend the
[00:01:05.250]University of Nebraska Medical Center. I will be pursuing a PhD in the area of
[00:01:09.870]immunology, pathology, and infectious diseases and CASNR has really helped
[00:01:14.350]prepare me by providing mentorship opportunities. My mentor in particular,
[00:01:19.030]she really provided me an opportunity to work in multiple labs in multiple
[00:01:23.350]environments to really help me get a basis for what research was like in many
[00:01:27.410]different environments and that really helped me decide what I wanted to do
[00:01:31.090]with my future as well as gave me the experiences that I needed to really get
[00:01:34.790]there.
