- [00:00:00.000]Hello, my name is Jess Nguyen, and I'm the marketing coordinator for the University Health Center.
- [00:00:06.000]I'm going to walk you through some of our support and services that we have for you here on campus.
- [00:00:12.000]So first thing is first, where is the Health Center? Our address is 550 North 19th Street.
- [00:00:18.000]As you can see here on the map, we're just south of the Beadle Center, right across the street from Eastside Suites.
- [00:00:24.000]And we're on the eastern edge of city campus. But wherever you are on campus, it's pretty easy to get to the Health Center.
- [00:00:32.000]A few different ways you can get here. The majority of our students do walk to the Health Center, especially if they're living on campus.
- [00:00:39.000]It is within walking distance of most locations here on city campus.
- [00:00:44.000]If you do have a car, you can also drive to the Health Center and utilize our free patient parking.
- [00:00:50.000]Just remember to sign in with your license plate number at one of
- [00:00:54.000]our greeter desks.
- [00:00:56.000]And then maybe you're in a rush, you forgot to sign in, that sort of thing.
- [00:01:00.000]If you do happen to get a ticket and you had a legitimate appointment with us at the Health Center, come into the administration office and we can void that ticket for you.
- [00:01:10.000]If you're living off campus or you are over on East Campus, you can use the bus route, number 25, and that will drop you by our building.
- [00:01:21.000]And then we also have a
- [00:01:23.000]bike rack in front of our buildings
- [00:01:24.000]west entrance or while you're on campus you might see the bikeLNK in or scooters that are um
- [00:01:29.920]around there's a bikeLNK in dock that's right across the street as well
- [00:01:34.080]so our academic hours when we say academic hours these are spring and fall semester hours and so
- [00:01:44.720]these are um we're open Monday through Friday 8 a.m to 5 p.m Saturdays were open 9 to noon
- [00:01:52.160]Sundays were closed and then we'll have adjusted hours over breaks and holidays we'll keep those
- [00:01:57.920]updated through our social media, our website signage throughout our building, as well as
- [00:02:02.720]publications throughout the university um but even if we're closed that doesn't mean you're
- [00:02:07.520]without care we have a phone nurse on 24/7. so whether it's 2 p.m, 2 a.m you can call this nurse
- [00:02:15.680]line talk about your symptoms maybe she'll just say you just need to do a little home care take
- [00:02:21.760]a little ibuprofen but if symptoms are a little bit more severe we can direct you to an urgent
- [00:02:27.120]care if we're closed or having you make an appointment with the university health center.
- [00:02:31.120]so how does the health center help you when you're sick or injured? The bulk of what we do is primary
- [00:02:39.280]care so that is injury and illness care so whether it be strep throat a cough stomach illnesses
- [00:02:46.240]broken bones and strains we can see you for that here at the university health center as
- [00:02:51.360]well as chronic disease management so maybe you have asthma or diabetes and high blood pressure
- [00:02:56.880]we can go ahead and continue managing that while you're here on campus and then we also do annual
- [00:03:04.000]physicals so women's and men's health exams health assessments this is a great time for you when
- [00:03:09.920]you're younger healthier to make sure you know what your baseline numbers are so down the line
- [00:03:14.480]when you do get sick we can make sure that we can compare those two we also do minor sports medicine
- [00:03:20.960]evaluation treatment especially if you're doing a campus rec sport and then we also do health and
- [00:03:26.320]well-being education on the slide as well you'll see we have a laboratory so if you need to do
- [00:03:31.760]like a strep test blood test that sort of thing we can do that here at the health center
- [00:03:35.760]and then we can also do radiology so if you do suspect you might have a broken bone
- [00:03:40.560]that sort of thing we can do that as well so specialty care services we want to make
- [00:03:47.040]sure that students have access to these instead of sending them off campus
- [00:03:50.560]especially if they don't have a way to get off campus and so with travel clinic if you're
- [00:03:56.480]studying abroad maybe going on a vacation outside the country our travel nurse can make sure that
- [00:04:01.520]you're getting the vaccinations that you need medications and just some precautions of when
- [00:04:06.720]you're traveling abroad. With orthopedics if you get a broken bone or just need some
- [00:04:14.000]post-operative advice that sort of thing that's what orthopedics is for here. allergy
- [00:04:20.160]clinic we don't have an allergist on staff but if you have an allergist at home or within the
- [00:04:25.280]community they can send your serums to our allergy nurses and they'll administer those in our clinic
- [00:04:31.440]for you and then we also have nutrition so our registered dietician sees patients over telehealth
- [00:04:37.820]appointments and can walk you through dietary restrictions changes that you want to make
- [00:04:42.560]that sort of thing and then psychiatry is our psychiatric mental health medication
- [00:04:50.080]management so if you have bipolar depression
- [00:04:50.140]those kind of medications or you're wanting to
- [00:04:55.720]get evaluated for that that's what our team here can do as well as prescribing those medications
- [00:05:00.900]and working with you to see what will work the best for you.
- [00:05:03.580]we also have physical therapy within our building and so whether it's chronic pain maybe it's an
- [00:05:13.520]injury that you get from a sport or in a car accident maybe it's after you have surgery you want to
- [00:05:20.120]just bounce back a little faster with post-op rehabilitation that's what our physical therapy
- [00:05:25.660]team is here for so these are just some of the things that they can work with you but every
- [00:05:30.920]plan is individualized to make sure that you're getting back to the level activity that you want
- [00:05:35.560]to be in we also have a dental clinic here in our building as well so just like anything that
- [00:05:43.700]your dentist does at home we can do here at the university health center so routine exams and cleanings, crowns and fillings,
- [00:05:50.100]periodontal or a gum treatment we can do that as well
- [00:05:53.380]and we also have a pharmacy in our building so if you already have an existing prescription
- [00:06:00.740]with the doctor at home you can go ahead and transfer that to our university health center
- [00:06:06.140]pharmacy. You can pick it up here or if you need to we also have free mail order with a
- [00:06:13.640]in the state of Nebraska for 60 and 90 supplies, depending on what kind of prescription you have.
- [00:06:18.200]And then we also have a bunch of over-the-counter items. So hundreds of different things coming from
- [00:06:23.900]band-aids, tampons, lotions, anything that you might find at a Walgreens or CVS, you can also
- [00:06:30.400]find here at the University Health Center. And then the last thing on the slide is our safe
- [00:06:36.320]medical disposal box. This is a blue metal box that sits in the corner of our pharmacy.
- [00:06:40.680]If you're ever needing to use or get rid of over-the-counter meds or a prescription that
- [00:06:47.100]you're just not using or it's been expired, you can drop it off with us, no questions asked.
- [00:06:51.820]And then how do you make an appointment? So appointments are required for all services
- [00:06:58.780]at the University Health Center. You can call our number here on the screen, 402-472-5000,
- [00:07:05.160]or you can schedule online.
- [00:07:07.120]We do have some same-day appointments offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
- [00:07:10.660]So you can either check
- [00:07:14.680]online to see if something is available or give us a call earlier that morning so we can make sure
- [00:07:19.580]that we can try to find a slot that works for you that same day. As I mentioned earlier, we do have
- [00:07:25.280]a phone nurse that's available 24-7. You can call that number and it'll tell you which number to
- [00:07:29.500]press to speak to that phone nurse. And then some of our services are available through telehealth
- [00:07:35.160]on a limited basis as well. So once you've made
- [00:07:40.640]that appointment, what happens next? You're going to get two links in your email. One is to register
- [00:07:45.900]for the OneChart patient portal. Within that portal, you can message your provider, see your results,
- [00:07:51.280]that sort of thing. And then you can complete e-check-in. And so within e-check-in, you can
- [00:07:56.360]go ahead and do your family medical history forms, upload your insurance, emergency contacts, all that
- [00:08:02.640]stuff. So it saves you a lot of time before you're coming into the clinic. And then anytime that you come,
- [00:08:10.620]make sure that you're coming 15 minutes before your scheduled time, just to make sure that we can get you checked in,
- [00:08:15.580]make sure that we have all the paperwork that we need. And then whenever you come for your appointment,
- [00:08:20.640]bring a government or photo ID and then your insurance card if you have one.
- [00:08:25.380]So how do you pay for care? So there are charges for most services at the Student Health Center.
- [00:08:33.420]Student fees do cover certain services, and we'll go through a few of those services in this next slide here.
- [00:08:40.600]Otherwise, you can submit to a private insurance plan if you want to know if what tier, if we're in
- [00:08:47.680]network, that sort of thing. We encourage you to reach out to your own insurance plan and see if
- [00:08:53.180]Nebraska Medicine is in network. If you don't have insurance and you don't need to have insurance to
- [00:08:59.620]come to the University Health Center, you can pay out of pocket at a discount. So paying through
- [00:09:04.700]cash card, that sort of thing. And then financial assistance is available through
- [00:09:10.580]Nebraska Medicine. If you are interested in that, feel free to reach out to our billing and insurance
- [00:09:15.780]person and they can help you walk through that process. And then if for some reason all these
- [00:09:22.140]things do not cover that balance, the remaining balance will be billed to your MyRed account after
- [00:09:26.860]30 days. And then services that are covered by student fees. As a student, you pay student fees
- [00:09:35.060]and some of those fees do cover services at the health center. So throughout the academic
- [00:09:40.560]year, in each academic year you're here, this restarts. So there's five talking office visits.
- [00:09:47.960]So this is talking to a provider about a concern that you might have. It might be just a simple
- [00:09:55.540]cough. Maybe it's strep throat, that sort of thing. But if there is testing involved or a
- [00:10:01.400]prescription, that will be something that you have to take care of. That's your responsibility
- [00:10:05.880]through insurance. You're paying out of pocket. But the office visit itself, talking with
- [00:10:10.540]the provider, is covered by your student fees. Flu shots are covered. A doctored order wellness
- [00:10:17.280]profile, since it's like a blood test, just seeing where your cholesterol levels are,
- [00:10:21.320]that sort of thing. And then these three STI tests are covered by student fees as well.
- [00:10:27.300]So if you want to see everything that is covered by student fees, you can head to health.unl.edu/coveredservices
- [00:10:33.160]And then what is the power of attorney form? So
- [00:10:40.520]this form is only for students who will be 18 years old at the start of the school year. If
- [00:10:47.160]you're going to be 19 before school starts, you don't have to worry about this form. And then
- [00:10:52.020]if the student is going to be 17, the form cannot be filled out until they are 18.
- [00:10:57.860]What this essentially is saying is because in the state of Nebraska, you're not a legal adult to
- [00:11:04.840]19 years old, you can't consent to your own medical care. It has to be done through a parent or legal
- [00:11:10.500]guardian. By the parent or legal guardian signing this form, they're saying that their 18-year-old
- [00:11:16.500]minor can consent to their own care at the University Health Center. This does need to be
- [00:11:22.320]notarized, and all the information that you need for this form is at health.unl.edu/new-student-checklist
- [00:11:29.560]So you can see all the stipulations and instructions on how to do
- [00:11:33.840]this correctly there. And finally, what happens when there is an emergency? The University of
- [00:11:40.480]Health Center is more so a primary care and urgent care clinic, and so if it is a true emergency,
- [00:11:46.260]we highly recommend that you, one, update your emergency contact information in your MyRed
- [00:11:52.580]account, and you can do that by going to profile, my information, and editing those contacts there.
- [00:11:59.700]And then as well as if it is an emergency and you present to the health center,
- [00:12:04.820]we'll make sure to get you to the emergency room. So stay connected,
- [00:12:10.460]if you need more information about our services, health.unl.edu should be able to answer most of
- [00:12:15.480]your questions. And then staying updated on webinars, events, health information,
- [00:12:21.700]all that great stuff, you can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and on X.
