- [00:00:00.000]Hi, my name is Jayden Pullman and I am the Customer Service Supervisor at Parking & Transit Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:10.000]Today, I will be telling you a little bit about Parking & Transit Services and how your student will be able to park on campus in a safe and effective manner.
- [00:00:18.000]Parking & Transit Services is an auxiliary department. What this means is that we receive no tuition funding, no state funding, and no federal funding.
- [00:00:29.000]We fund our department through parking permit sales such as special event parking such as football, and we do receive revenue from citations as well to help fund our department.
- [00:00:39.000]Parking & Transit Services uses these funds for all upkeep of parking facilities. This includes building new parking lots or building new parking garages, resurfacing lots, striping lots, snow removal, lighting, and security cameras.
- [00:00:55.000]On the screen you'll see there are several ways to contact us.
- [00:00:58.000]You are welcome to contact us at any time if you have questions about parking on UNL campus or what permit you should buy.
- [00:01:05.000]Our office hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and we do try to get back to you within 24 hours.
- [00:01:13.000]UNL Parking & Transit Services is committed to trying to provide safe, reliable, and convenient parking.
- [00:01:24.000]For safety, we have well-lit lots and garages throughout campus.
- [00:01:27.000]We have on-call bus services from 9:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays.
- [00:01:33.000]We also have expanded parking permit options after 4:00 p.m.
- [00:01:37.000]This increases flexibility and reduces the need to walk long distances after dark.
- [00:01:42.000]For reliability, we guarantee a parking spot within your student's permit-designated area,
- [00:01:48.000]though this does not guarantee them a spot in a specific lot all the time.
- [00:01:52.000]For convenience, we offer lots of garages that are strategically located
- [00:01:56.000]to provide easy access across campus, with proximity designated to support on-campus residents
- [00:02:02.000]and reduce commuting stress when possible.
- [00:02:05.000]We also support a pedestrian-friendly campus by reducing vehicle traffic in central areas.
- [00:02:11.000]In terms of pricing, we are comparative or lower-priced than many off-campus and downtown options.
- [00:02:17.000]For example, the City of Lincoln garages are $75 to $95 a month,
- [00:02:22.000]Prime Place is $35 a month,
- [00:02:25.000]and Latitude Apartments are $95 to $125 a month for parking.
- [00:02:30.000]We offer two main types of student parking permits.
- [00:02:33.000]We offer resident permits for those who are living on campus, either in the dorm or in sorority or fraternity housing,
- [00:02:40.000]and we also offer commuter permits for those who are living off-campus and will be commuting for classes and other activities.
- [00:02:47.000]Please note that commuter permits do not offer overnight parking.
- [00:02:51.000]For students who do not wish to purchase a parking permit,
- [00:02:54.000]we also offer pay-to-park options.
- [00:02:56.000]Students may park hourly in some of our parking garages,
- [00:02:59.000]they may also park and pay at a meter,
- [00:03:01.000]or purchase parking time in designated passport zones.
- [00:03:04.000]Passport is essentially a digital meter,
- [00:03:07.000]and it is an app that may be downloaded on any smart device.
- [00:03:10.000]On our website, we do have a permit purchasing guide
- [00:03:15.000]that you can use to aid you in purchasing your student's permit.
- [00:03:18.000]Please know that when purchasing a permit,
- [00:03:20.000]you will need your student's vehicle information, including the license plate number,
- [00:03:23.000]in order to finalize purchase, so it is suggested to have that on hand
- [00:03:27.000]before starting the purchasing process.
- [00:03:30.000]We also have maps on our website to help identify different parking areas
- [00:03:34.000]on where your student can park.
- [00:03:37.000]Let's go through what permits your student should buy
- [00:03:40.000]when they are living on campus.
- [00:03:42.000]For residents for Harper, Schramm, or Smith,
- [00:03:47.000]we have our R01 surface lot and our 14th and Avery garage permit available.
- [00:03:52.000]Residents of Abel, Sandoz, or Courtyards
- [00:03:55.000]are suggested to buy R02 surface lot permits
- [00:03:58.000]or 19th and Vine garage permits.
- [00:04:00.000]For those living in the Courtyards,
- [00:04:02.000]they may also access the 17th and R garage permits
- [00:04:05.000]and the 18th and R garage permits.
- [00:04:09.000]For residents of Kauffman and Selleck,
- [00:04:11.000]it is recommended that you purchase an R01 surface lot permit
- [00:04:14.000]or a 14th and Avery garage permit.
- [00:04:18.000]For residents of Knoll, University Suites, and Eastside Suites,
- [00:04:21.000]it is suggested that you purchase an R02 surface lot permit
- [00:04:26.000]or a 17th and R or 18th and R garage permit.
- [00:04:31.000]For students in Greek Housing, we do have our R02 surface lot permit.
- [00:04:35.000]Our 19th and Vine, 17th and R, or 18th and R garage permits are also available.
- [00:04:42.000]Our sole dorm on East Campus is Massengale,
- [00:04:47.000]and for Massengale residents, we do have our E surface lots.
- [00:04:50.000]For our commuter student options, for those that do not need overnight parking,
- [00:04:57.000]we have several options as well.
- [00:04:59.000]We have our reserved or lot-specific permits.
- [00:05:02.000]These are going to be our D1, D2, and D3 lots.
- [00:05:07.000]They're located on your map in blue.
- [00:05:10.000]We also have our non-reserved or first-come, first-served C lot permit.
- [00:05:15.000]There's going to be that darker navy near black lots on your screen.
- [00:05:19.000]And we have perimeter permits as well.
- [00:05:22.000]Our perimeter lots are located up near Devaney,
- [00:05:25.000]and we do have one located off of 10th and Y Street as well.
- [00:05:30.000]For garages, we offer Stadium Drive Garage, 19th and Vine, 14th and Avery, and 17th and R.
- [00:05:38.000]Please note that both our commuter and our resident permits,
- [00:05:41.000]other than the C non-reserved permits, are location-specific.
- [00:05:45.000]What this means is that if your student buys a garage permit,
- [00:05:48.000]they are expected to park in their permitted garage during core parking hours
- [00:05:52.000]and may not park in other permit lots during those times.
- [00:05:57.000]For commuter students needing to park on East Campus,
- [00:06:00.000]we also have C lots on East Campus as well.
- [00:06:03.000]Again, these are non-reserved or first-come, first-served.
- [00:06:07.000]We also have perimeter P lots on East Campus.
- [00:06:10.000]Those are going to be located up near our greenhouses.
- [00:06:15.000]In terms of pricing, all of our student permits
- [00:06:17.000]are going to be nine-month permits running this year
- [00:06:20.000]from August 18th to May 10th, the academic year.
- [00:06:24.000]For surface lots, that cost is going to be $405.
- [00:06:28.000]For our 14th and Avery parking garage, it is $459.
- [00:06:32.000]All other garages are going to be $486 for the academic year.
- [00:06:37.000]Our reserved lots for commuters only are $729.
- [00:06:41.000]And then those perimeter options,
- [00:06:43.000]which are located on the outskirts of campus,
- [00:06:45.000]that's going to be $207.
- [00:06:46.000]We also offer summer permits
- [00:06:49.000]for students needing to park on campus over the summer.
- [00:06:51.000]They are offered later in that spring semester,
- [00:06:54.000]closer to the start of summer.
- [00:06:56.000]When your students are purchasing their parking permit,
- [00:06:59.000]whether online or in office,
- [00:07:00.000]they are able to choose cash,
- [00:07:02.000]if they're in office,
- [00:07:03.000]credit or debit card,
- [00:07:05.000]or they will also be offered bill to MIRED.
- [00:07:08.000]bill to MIRED bills that permit to their student bill.
- [00:07:12.000]If they choose bill to MIRED,
- [00:07:14.000]it will be all,
- [00:07:15.000]in one,
- [00:07:16.000]so they would pay the full total of their permit at the beginning of first semester or the month they buy their parking permit.
- [00:07:24.000]If they bill,
- [00:07:25.000]if they choose bill to MIRED per semester,
- [00:07:27.000]that will break up the cost into two parts.
- [00:07:29.000]The cost of the permit for the first semester will be charged at the start of first semester or fall semester or the month they buy their parking permit.
- [00:07:38.000]And then the second semester or spring semester will be charged at the start of spring semester.
- [00:07:44.000]In terms of refunds, our refund policy follows very closely with the university housing refund policy.
- [00:07:51.390]The first two weeks of first semester or prior gets your student a 100% refund.
- [00:07:57.390]The third week of first semester is a 75% refund.
- [00:08:02.390]Fourth week of first semester on through the second week of second semester is a 50% refund.
- [00:08:09.390]Third week of second semester is a 25% refund.
- [00:08:12.390]And then starting the fourth week of second semester, we do not offer any refunds.
- [00:08:17.390]The specific dates for that timeline for this academic year are on your screen as well.
- [00:08:28.390]All students parking on UNL property must be registered with UNL Parking and Transit Services.
- [00:08:34.390]All student vehicles parked on UNL property must be registered with UNL Parking and Transit Services regardless of permit status.
- [00:08:41.390]This is because in the case of an emergency, we always try to call or text a student to have their vehicles removed before we would tow.
- [00:08:47.390]A few years ago, we had, for example, we had a car catch on fire into the 14th and Avery Garage.
- [00:08:53.390]We were able to call those students in their surrounding stalls who had permits or who had registered their vehicle with us
- [00:08:59.390]in order to minimize the amount of damage their car received and contain that fire.
- [00:09:04.390]We also utilize license plate recognition services. What this means is that your student's license plate on the vehicle
- [00:09:10.390]shall serve as their permit. The affixed license plate must face the drive aisle in order to accomplish this.
- [00:09:20.390]So vehicles with only one plate, that back plate, cannot pull through or back into a stall as our license plate reader
- [00:09:26.390]cannot read something it can't see. So it has to be facing that drive aisle.
- [00:09:33.390]For students that are buying a permit or registering a vehicle that does not currently have a license plate,
- [00:09:39.390]we ask that they put the last eight numbers of their VIN in as their license plate.
- [00:09:44.390]And then as soon as they get that plate, they should be updating that since that will serve as their permit.
- [00:09:52.390]We also offer bus services on UNL campus. There is no additional cost for bus passes.
- [00:09:57.390]However, we do receive a small transit fee from students. This is already a part of their student fees and is built in.
- [00:10:05.390]We have two main bus routes. That's going to be Route 24 and 25.
- [00:10:08.390]We also have Route 22, which goes from City Campus to Nebraska Innovation Campus and a small passenger van that will run from Nebraska Innovation Campus to East Campus.
- [00:10:20.390]All buses run on about a 20 minute schedule.
- [00:10:25.390]Buses are quite convenient. I have several students who work here in Parking and Transit Services who will park their car on City Campus and then take their take the bus to and from their classes on East Campus.
- [00:10:37.390]It prevents the wear and tear on their vehicles and it also helps them avoid having to find parking each time, which in populated parts of campus can be difficult sometimes.
- [00:10:47.390]We also have an on-call bus service that runs between East Campus and City Campus from 9pm to 11:30pm. The phone number can be found on our website for students who need that service.
- [00:10:58.390]Students who are wanting a bus pass can go online and sign up on StarTran using their NUID. The specific instructions for that can be found on our website.
- [00:11:06.390]They may also receive a physical bus pass from our office if they prefer a physical pass over that digital pass.
- [00:11:16.390]One of our most popular events on city campus during the fall semester is football.
- [00:11:22.390]Resident students are not required to move their vehicle on home football game days.
- [00:11:28.390]However, they can only park in their assigned area on these days and they must have their event sticker present to show proof of residency.
- [00:11:35.390]We'll get to the event stickers in just one moment to further explain what those are.
- [00:11:39.390]Commuter students with a valid permit and a valid event sticker may park in the green hashed out lots on the map.
- [00:11:46.390]These lots are first come first serve locations.
- [00:11:50.390]We also ask that all students make sure their contact information is up to date in their parking portal and in MyRED.
- [00:11:58.390]This is because if a vehicle is in an inappropriate lot and the vehicle is registered or it has a parking permit with us,
- [00:12:04.390]we are able to call or text to have them move their vehicles.
- [00:12:08.390]We do note that these calls and texts are quite early in the morning.
- [00:12:12.390]So if you would like to have your phone number listed as a contact for these vehicles as well,
- [00:12:16.390]please have your student list your phone number when they are purchasing their permit.
- [00:12:20.390]If they purchase online, they can always call or email us to add your phone number as a second phone number.
- [00:12:25.390]This way we can contact you as well in case your student has their phone set to do not disturb or just as a backup.
- [00:12:32.390]We do this because if they do not move their vehicles,
- [00:12:33.390]after we've called and texted, the vehicle will be towed as Athletics has purchased the surface lots around the stadium
- [00:12:41.390]to resell to boosters as a part of their season tickets.
- [00:12:44.390]So we do have to clear those lots for those prepaid boosters.
- [00:12:49.390]Now on to those event stickers.
- [00:12:51.390]Event stickers are required for all resident permit holders.
- [00:12:54.390]This excludes the 18th and R garage permit holders.
- [00:12:57.390]Resident event stickers will be mailed directly to their dorms or handed out
- [00:13:02.390]during resident move-in packet pickup.
- [00:13:06.390]If they do not receive their event sticker,
- [00:13:08.390]please have them check with their front desk.
- [00:13:11.390]For our commuter students,
- [00:13:14.390]surface lot event stickers can be requested or emailed in person.
- [00:13:18.390]We ask that if you are asking for it to be mailed,
- [00:13:22.390]you do so within two weeks of needing it,
- [00:13:24.390]or if you need it before that two-week deadline,
- [00:13:26.390]you plan to pick it up in person to make sure it gets to you in a timely manner.
- [00:13:31.390]The student's event sticker will go in the lower left-hand corner of their windshield on their driver's side,
- [00:13:35.390]and it is made to be removable,
- [00:13:37.390]which means that if they do switch cars or need to borrow a car during an event and still need that event sticker,
- [00:13:43.390]they can remove it and place it in that new vehicle.
- [00:13:45.390]It should leave very minimal residue that can come off with just a little bit of window cleaning solution.
- [00:13:51.390]On the screen, you'll see a few examples of what your student's event sticker might look like.
- [00:13:55.390]That pink event sticker is going to be for a resident R01 and R02 lots.
- [00:14:00.390]The yellow event sticker is for the stadium drive garage.
- [00:14:03.390]Our reserved lots are going to be orange this year, and our standard event sticker will be yellow.
- [00:14:08.390]However, depending on what permit your student has purchased, they may vary in color from these on the screen.
- [00:14:18.390]Again, there are several ways to contact us. We have our website, which is parking.unl.edu.
- [00:14:24.390]Our email is unlpts@unl.edu.
- [00:14:29.390]Our phone number is 402-472-1800.
- [00:14:34.390]And our office is located at 625 Stadium Drive, Suite A.
- [00:14:38.390]Our entrance is off of T Street, so just make sure you're coming through that way.
- [00:14:42.390]If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
- [00:14:46.390]We're always happy to answer any questions regarding students parking on campus as well as visitors parking on campus.
- [00:14:56.390]NSE has many resources that you can check into.
- [00:14:58.390]If you scan that QR code located on the screen or if you go to go.unl.edu/nseresources,
- [00:15:05.390]you'll be able to find recordings, key links and PowerPoints downloaded for this orientation session as well as other orientation sessions.
- [00:15:15.390]I thank you for taking the time to learn about how your student will park on campus.
- [00:15:19.390]And we can't wait to see all of your future Huskers next year.
The screen size you are trying to search captions on is too small!
You can always jump over to MediaHub and check it out there.
