- [00:00:00.800]Hello everybody my name is Lieutenant Keishon Arlongelo here to talk about Navy ROTC.
- [00:00:06.560]What is Navy ROTC? It's one of the ways college students can graduate and become officers.
- [00:00:12.560]Other options include branch specific academies like West Point Naval Academy or Air Force Academy
- [00:00:17.840]and then we have OCS which is officer canidate school, OTS.
- [00:00:21.680]Certain events we get involved in the fall semester. We get involved with the football
- [00:00:29.120]games. We'll do push-ups for points, the color guard or security. We also have the joint field
- [00:00:34.400]meet where we'll participate in a competition between the Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC here at the
- [00:00:42.880]campus and then we also have Army Navy football game, the Navy Marine Corps ball, the field
- [00:00:51.520]exercise for the Marines and the 9/11 stair run. Spring semester events we have the sub ball,
- [00:00:58.240]the Colorado field meet, commissioning of the course and then the field exercise for the spring,
- [00:01:03.360]the spring game, Mest Night and Strat Com visit. For the field exercise the Marines
- [00:01:10.320]have gone to the field and they will do infantry tactics, ruck marches,
- [00:01:15.680]stuff like weapons familiarization and land navigation. For summer cruises before you get here
- [00:01:23.360]if you apply for the four-year scholarship you will go to something called New Student
- [00:01:27.360]Indoctrination, NSI, that's a three-week boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. Then if you come here
- [00:01:36.000]uh if you come here after and you apply for the three-year scholarship we will still send
- [00:01:42.640]you an NSI it will just be at another time because it's a requirement before you commission.
- [00:01:47.440]The following semester you go to culture mid which is one week with each community
- [00:01:53.120]you can join so one week the Marines, one week of Submariners,
- [00:01:56.480]one week the Surface, and one week of Aviation. Then for your rising junior year, your second
- [00:02:03.280]class cruise you will shadow enlisted sailor for Navy side or you can go on submarine.
- [00:02:08.320]For first-class cruise it will be Aviation, Surface, or Submarine. For the Marine options
- [00:02:15.680]they'll go to Marine month or OCS and also for the first class you could do something
- [00:02:20.640]called SOAS which is something you would go to if you're interested in EOD and SEAL.
- [00:02:25.760]And some photos of our Machinimans out in the fleet during the summertime.
- [00:02:31.680]Scholarship opportunities. Scholarship versus college program. For scholarship you get full
- [00:02:43.680]tuition and fees or you can opt out for room and board which is you'll get $11,500 per year.
- [00:02:50.480]You'll get $375 book stipend per semester. Stipend
- [00:02:55.520]each month during the school. E-5 pay during your summer cruises and you're committed to
- [00:03:00.800]about five years after you're done. For a college programmer they won't be committed
- [00:03:06.880]until you are on scholarship and you have the advanced standing option during your senior year
- [00:03:11.560]which you would get paid a stipend during your senior year, you'll be paid once you go on cruise
- [00:03:17.550]and then you'll be offered a commission once you graduate. For the four-year national scholarship,
- [00:03:24.990]here's the requirements you have to meet for that. If you want to apply for the four-year scholarship
- [00:03:33.870]before you get in to the to college, the deadline is 21st of January or 31st January.
- [00:03:40.830]Now if you don't get the four-year scholarship, you should still join the unit if you are still
- [00:03:48.670]interested, which you would be as a college programmer. All that means is you're still in
- [00:03:54.030]the unit, but you don't have the four-year scholarship. Now at the end of your first
- [00:03:59.390]year here, we will evaluate you, we will take all your academic information,
- [00:04:03.710]like your grades, your grades in your Naval Science courses, we'll take your
- [00:04:09.870]your scores in the PT tests, we'll look at your performance overall, and we will
- [00:04:15.930]input you in for the sideload scholarships if you meet the requirements. The sideload
- [00:04:22.710]scholarships can be attained once you're in the unit. We will put in all the information,
- [00:04:28.650]or the staff will input all the information, and it'll be based on your college
- [00:04:33.550]performance, like I said, your academics, your performance in the unit, and then have
- [00:04:38.770]the same benefits of the four-year scholarship, it's just for less amount of
- [00:04:42.490]time. For the sideload scholarship for the Marines, can be applied multiple times.
- [00:04:49.830]Things to focus on will be your physical fitness scores, academics, billets, or
- [00:04:56.170]responsibilities within the unit, and overall unit responsibilities. Once you do have
- [00:05:02.290]the scholarship,
- [00:05:03.390]and you're in Navy ROTC, here's the requirements. You have to pass the PRT or just the physical
- [00:05:10.990]test every semester. Maintain the GPA 2.5. For Navy, pass Calc 1 and Calc 2 by the end
- [00:05:19.310]of your sophomore year. For Marines, just take the required Naval Science courses prescribed
- [00:05:26.130]and be in a good standing unit. For Navy, pass Physics 1 to Physics 2 by the end of
- [00:05:30.050]your junior year, and then stay in your major
- [00:05:33.230]unless you are approved to change. Additional scholarship opportunities are given
- [00:05:40.630]to the Machinimans once they're in the unit if they're performing well and the staff
- [00:05:45.630]will recognize them by inputting them for specific scholarship opportunities.
- [00:05:53.050]And then also we have the Husker Salute program specific to UNL, which offers in-state tuition
- [00:05:58.610]and non-residence if you are affiliated with any ROTC here.
- [00:06:03.070]If you're interested in joining the unit, we have our website listed, our phone number
- [00:06:08.750]and email.
- [00:06:09.750]And that is all again.
- [00:06:13.410]My name is Lieutenant Kashawn Lungelo.
- [00:06:15.070]My email is listed and my phone number is listed there as well.
- [00:06:18.110]Thank you.
