- [00:01:58.340]Hi, I'm Josh Overocker, and I have the pleasure of serving as the Associate Vice Chancellor
- [00:02:11.340]for Student Life here at UNL.
- [00:02:12.860]In this role, I'm grateful to be a part of a team of nearly seven
- [00:02:15.300]hundred full-time staff and more than a thousand student staff in student life that work each day
- [00:02:20.330]to create powerful experiences and communities that are fundamental to our student success.
- [00:02:24.810]Personal interactions like the smiling face that greets a student in our dining center for
- [00:02:28.410]breakfast, the instructor teaching their early morning fitness class, the welcoming presence
- [00:02:33.850]of a hospitality associate in the union, and the reassuring staff at any number of front desks
- [00:02:39.130]are essential in creating powerful communities and experiences here on our campus.
- [00:02:44.250]When students feel welcome in all of the spaces and communities we serve,
- [00:02:48.250]they know they matter and they know we care. While our staff are critical in creating the
- [00:02:53.050]communities and experiences that support our students, we are also committed to providing
- [00:02:57.210]pathways for every member of our community as well. It's core to who we are as an institution
- [00:03:02.090]of higher learning. For members of our team, we provide robust benefits including tuition
- [00:03:07.370]remission for employees or dependents, access to employee well-being services, and a culture
- [00:03:13.210]of continuous development. Throughout your time, you'll learn more about these, but I want to call
- [00:03:18.810]your attention to a few. We are committed to a culture of safe workplaces, offering training
- [00:03:23.930]on injury prevention and promoting practices that keep everyone healthy and secure on the job. We
- [00:03:29.450]also believe in creating a culture of continuous development and encourage all staff members to
- [00:03:33.850]connect regularly with their supervisors for opportunities to enhance their skills and
- [00:03:38.010]advance their careers. Through our annual review process, you and your supervisor
- [00:03:42.170]can co-create an individual development plan focused on your own professional growth.
- [00:03:46.810]We know our staff have stress too. Whether you're managing daily challenges or experiencing life
- [00:03:51.610]transitions, the Employee Assistance Program, or EAP, is a program that offers confidential
- [00:03:57.210]assessment and short-term counseling for personal or work-related issues,
- [00:04:01.610]available at no charge to you or your immediate family members. All of these resources are
- [00:04:06.730]examples of how together we're building a workplace where every staff member is supported,
- [00:04:12.010]valued, and empowered to thrive.
