[00:00:06.700]Arvid Kumar Dubey, a UNL postdoctoral research associate, has been examining the behavior of the wheat crop when it is infested with sawflies,
[00:00:15.560]how it responds, and how it attempts to defend itself against other stressors such as drought.
[00:00:21.460]Yes, so I worked on five varieties, umm, wheat varieties and they are categorized in three pedigrees that these hollow stem, semi-solid stem and
[00:00:44.480]solid stem. We chose these varieties based on their wheat stem sawfly preference. Because the solid stem the wheat stem sawfly cannot penetrate the stem.
[00:00:54.020]So we wanted to ask why the hollow stem cannot have the solid stem because
[00:01:00.660]they have a better yield than solid stem. So, we are just trying to understand if we
[00:01:06.640]can improve that quality of solid stem in hollow variety, then we can improve both wheat
[00:01:13.160]stem sawfly tolerance and the yield also.
