[00:00:12.000]The biggest thing the LEAD Program has taught me is the need for immediate action.
[00:00:17.000]Growing up in rural Nebraska, doing FFA
[00:00:20.000]and then going to college, everyone always talks about how the younger generation,
[00:00:24.000]you're the future, you're going to make change, et cetera.
[00:00:27.000]And even in college, everyone's always optimistic.
[00:00:31.000]Everyone's studying a fascinating new degree.
[00:00:33.000]The sky is the limit.
[00:00:34.000]Then after you graduate,
[00:00:36.000]it's easy to get comfortable, work a 9-to-5.
[00:00:39.000]That paycheck comes in every month.
[00:00:41.000]You can kind of get disconnected with what the grander goal should be.
[00:00:46.000]And I think LEAD really strives to motivate
[00:00:49.000]us to actually take action, get out of our
[00:00:51.000]comfort zone.
[00:00:52.000]Serve in these leadership roles even if there's going to be
[00:00:55.000]very hard-pressing
[00:00:58.000]drawbacks that will come with those leadership roles. Whether it's dealing with
[00:01:01.000]angry constituents or very tough issues that are going to divide towns, et cetera.
[00:01:06.000]One way LEAD
[00:01:07.000]has motivated me to actually take action
[00:01:10.000]is when I move back home eventually, serve on a local school board
[00:01:15.000]help with local consolidation.
[00:01:17.000]I recently heard a rumor that
[00:01:19.000]My small town was going to consolidate with another town,
[00:01:22.000]and everything was agreed upon.
[00:01:25.000]The only caveat was we had to move the school one
[00:01:28.000]mile, and that is what made everything fall through.
[00:01:31.000]And, now being an adult, the fact that
[00:01:34.000]decisions like that could be so minusule,
[00:01:37.000]but they have grand consequences,
[00:01:39.000]I really want to make sure decisions like that never happen again.
