- [00:00:00.000]then we are going to get to work into now what you guys are going to do is start to come up with
- [00:00:16.880]a singular goal so we you don't have to do all of it at once but what we do want you to do is is
- [00:00:26.000]build it robust so we are going to take into account all of the competencies but you're not
- [00:00:32.860]going to choose every single goal you know five different goals from a singular competency we are
- [00:00:39.400]going to make sure that we are building in four different goals across those four different
- [00:00:44.600]competencies so let me go back to screen share can i say one more thing while you're doing that
- [00:00:51.800]yeah um one of the um
- [00:00:55.640]barriers that i often hear for slps or teams is that they don't know how to do aac therapy
- [00:01:04.040]like i feel like i'm a really good um slp but i don't i don't know how to do like aac therapy you
- [00:01:10.380]know and so one of the things i hope that you might have noticed especially as you're going
- [00:01:15.000]through linguistic now operational like obviously that's pretty specific but so many of these
- [00:01:20.280]linguistic competencies are things that we write for a verbal
- [00:01:25.620]student so many of the activities are activities that we do with our with our verbal students
- [00:01:32.620]anyways and so really the linguistic part of therapy with a device user or a communication
- [00:01:38.440]system user is no different than what we're doing with our enhancing verbal skills for our verbal
- [00:01:45.220]learners so i think that is part of the intimidation for a lot of people especially if they don't have
- [00:01:51.100]a lot of experience or didn't have a lot of you know classes in grad school or whatever that is
- [00:01:55.600]but it really is just um it's just um language development through a different mode of communication
- [00:02:03.820]yeah thank you so much for sharing that it's it's it's just so relational it just needs to
- [00:02:12.680]continue to be relational and know that your learner wants to know how to communicate for
- [00:02:19.080]all those different reasons
- [00:02:20.320]just like you. So I love it. Okay, so you guys have worked through those four listed out
- [00:02:28.140]competencies. And DAG3 has done a beautiful job. And if you dig in there, they will even tell you
- [00:02:35.180]specifically which goals are really geared towards those psychosocial competencies as well. However,
- [00:02:43.220]I want to flip it on us just a little bit today. So psychosocial competence is about having a
- [00:02:50.300]positive attitude towards AAC, showing motivation to use it, and then just that resilience to
- [00:02:56.340]overcome any communication breakdowns. I am going to flip it on us. So how do we get a student to
- [00:03:05.100]have a positive attitude towards AAC? By us having a positive attitude toward AAC. How do they
- [00:03:13.200]begin to show motivation to use it? Because we are motivated to use it. And then we are not a
- [00:03:20.280]to make mistakes in front of them. And we will just make those corrections and explore the system
- [00:03:28.920]with them on how to make those corrections. So on the psychosocial portion of this, we are actually
- [00:03:36.240]going to create a team goal, not an individualized student goal. So we can we could consider that we
- [00:03:50.260]to use it, that we will have team members that will think of the student and choose items and
- [00:03:56.940]activities that are motivating to the student that value the students wants and needs, or demonstrate
- [00:04:03.160]resilience and trying again, like, yep, I messed up. Shoot, Miss Megan, I do it. Yep. But that's okay.
- [00:04:10.880]We can learn from our mistakes, right? And we can move on. So on that one, I do want us to go ahead
- [00:04:20.240]and consider doing a team goal on the final portion.
- [00:04:25.420]Okay.
- [00:04:25.680]Thank you.
