- [00:00:00.000]So you guys are going to get to have a little bit of work time right now.
- [00:00:15.200]And we want to consider if you have a focus student, consider the time of day and the activity and then the communication access.
- [00:00:28.720]The student is going to have, whether it's unaided or aided, and then the access that staff or peer are going to have to be able to model or have a conversation with them in their main mode of communication.
- [00:00:44.100]So we are going to go into that planning form and we are just going to start to fill that in for your focus student.
- [00:00:57.440]I love that. You do have one out on your playground.
- [00:01:03.180]Yes. You guys, absolutely.
- [00:01:08.700]And there are so many people wanting to do volunteer work and to gain those hours.
- [00:01:16.660]So what a beautiful project, service project to help people in the community. Thank you.
- [00:01:25.220]That's awesome.
- [00:01:26.160]The opportunity, too, to work with other people in your school district and peers.
- [00:01:31.900]If you have that high school shop class or that welding class or that whatever, even when we talked earlier about the 3D printed symbols,
- [00:01:41.620]if you have some sort of STEM class that has a 3D printer to just continue that exposure and awareness across the school is an awesome community opportunities,
- [00:01:50.900]like Megan was talking about, but also within your own school.
- [00:01:54.100]Who or what can you leverage?
- [00:01:56.080]Who would like to support those kind of projects?
- [00:01:58.460]Absolutely.
- [00:02:00.600]So we are going to give you guys the next 10 minutes to start filling out this communication across the day planning guide so that you can start to really think,
- [00:02:16.480]how are we going to make it totally immersive for them, for the student?
- [00:02:21.440]We have their plan A, that they would actually have their main.
- [00:02:26.000]But do we have a plan B, should the battery run down?
- [00:02:29.820]Should they be in an environment where it is in the backpack because they're on the bus?
- [00:02:35.120]Something like that.
- [00:02:36.000]Do we still have some access to some picture cards?
- [00:02:40.280]Or do a couple of people know some gestures or signs that they can have a conversation with on the bus?
- [00:02:48.020]So go ahead, take 10 minutes with your team.
- [00:02:51.560]Megan is going to put you guys in breakout rooms to start.
- [00:02:55.920]And then we're going to start filling out some of this form.
- [00:03:00.920]Okay, I think we have majority of participants back.
- [00:03:07.500]work through this. Did you guys see it? Did you anybody want to share like a takeaway
- [00:03:14.720]in how we are creating this immersive environment?
- [00:03:31.480]Do most of you feel like you had created an immersive environment already? Or do you feel
- [00:03:38.300]like there's room for improvement? That we can always improve a little bit upon what we are doing?
- [00:03:48.140]We had room for improvement. We need to model with our own devices or pictures. That was kind
- [00:03:55.920]of what our conversation was centered around, just so that we can expose.
- [00:04:01.140]to more yeah I could not agree more Millard we tend to focus on access for the student but we
- [00:04:11.600]just don't really think about the staff and the peers too much do we um so I love love that you
- [00:04:20.100]guys are saying no I think there's a little bit of room for improvement so um very good all right
- [00:04:27.220]I love that do you know what I'm hearing that is just music to my ears it's like that means we are
- [00:04:32.700]going to have better student outcomes is what that boils down to I feel like this is a great activity
- [00:04:39.520]to sit down with my staff as we get new kids in communication devices and work through or beginning
- [00:04:45.280]of the school year when we change routines like how are we going to build it and because then it
- [00:04:50.660]gives me a place to come in and help model and know where they're struggling because I don't
- [00:04:55.820]work with those kids every day
- [00:04:57.160]yeah yeah I love that the the more we can have the discussion and and I that was a super simple
- [00:05:07.160]activity but when we really pause for just a moment and think about how immersed we are in
- [00:05:14.520]in our ability to communicate that with spoken and the the written and the text and the you know
- [00:05:23.300]when we really consider the amount of exposure that we have had for
- [00:05:27.100]for our preferred modes of communication it's it's a little bit mind-boggling isn't it at how
- [00:05:34.920]little exposure then we give to our kiddos that need a different mode so I love that
- [00:05:43.180]definitely some room for improvement and that's you know Jessica and I will both just tell you
- [00:05:50.500]like we we know we lived it right we were right in the same exact boat with you so
- [00:05:57.040]very very cool
- [00:05:59.540]you
- [00:06:00.020]you
- [00:06:00.520]you
- [00:06:01.020]you
- [00:06:01.520]you
- [00:06:02.020]you
- [00:06:02.520]Thank you.
