- [00:00:00.000]That being said, the other type of vocabulary, which is 110% important, it's just not all
- [00:00:15.280]we can do, is called fringe vocabulary.
- [00:00:18.520]So these are more of those low frequency words that are specific to a person or activity
- [00:00:24.040]and are typically our nouns.
- [00:00:26.320]And so we absolutely want the students to be able to request their most favorite sensory
- [00:00:32.240]item or to talk about their brother or to say something about their cat or whatever
- [00:00:36.680]it is.
- [00:00:37.680]So we absolutely want to do that.
- [00:00:40.240]These bubbles will link out to-- let's see if I can do it again-- two different examples
- [00:00:46.960]of how you might gather the most important fringe vocabulary for your learner.
- [00:00:51.920]So this first one I clicked on is specific to preschoolers.
- [00:00:56.260]So this is something that your team could work through with parents to just go through
- [00:01:02.240]who are the people that your child would like to communicate with the most.
- [00:01:07.040]Is it mom, mommy, dad, baby, grandma, grandpa, whoever?
- [00:01:11.280]Specific family members, so aunt, whoever, cousin, whatever.
- [00:01:17.120]Any teachers or professionals, friends that they like at school a whole lot, places that
- [00:01:23.900]go a lot that they want to be able to communicate. Restaurants, vacation sites, stores, activities.
- [00:01:31.490]So that just runs through different considerations of what fringe vocabulary might be relevant for
- [00:01:39.130]preschoolers. And then the other one is a school age vocabulary questionnaire, very similar
- [00:01:45.470]to that preschool one. Just listing words that you feel your child absolutely needs
- [00:01:57.770]to be able to communicate about. So we can include those in our device. And then they do have
- [00:02:03.210]some ideas for categories. So who is in the family and what does the child call them? So just
- [00:02:11.250]because somebody is named something, we know that's also not their nickname or what they get
- [00:02:15.210]called. So we can include those in our device. And then we can include those in our category.
- [00:02:15.450]And then we can include those in our category. And then we can include those in our category.
- [00:02:32.770]And then we can include those in our category.
