- [00:00:00.000]When we consider our learners, we are going to come at today presuming competence.
- [00:00:17.700]We do believe that there is an amazing amount of ability that is within them, and we just haven't been able to reach it yet.
- [00:00:28.180]And so we are excited, though, that we are going to come about and build up their skill set so that we can get to see what they are capable of.
- [00:00:38.900]So often I hear teams say, we know that they are just so wonderfully intelligent, we just don't know how to get that out.
- [00:00:50.780]So our core beliefs for today, this is from Nebraska's Journey to Inclusion.
- [00:00:57.700]We believe that to effectively implement inclusive education, we believe that district schools, classrooms, and families must believe that all students are capable of achieving that grade-level learning with the right supports.
- [00:01:10.920]We want them in their classrooms as much as possible, and communication helps to level that playing field for us.
- [00:01:18.540]All educators are responsible for ensuring students with disabilities achieve grade-level learning.
- [00:01:27.220]you begin to develop your program
- [00:01:30.180]programming it's not just a singular person that should be coming to the table to help build
- [00:01:37.490]communication skills my background is as an SLP and so often it was on just the SLP shoulders or
- [00:01:46.310]maybe that was just my own feeling and that could be but a lot of times communication
- [00:01:53.710]people think oh that's for the SLP but that's not for the SLP when we consider you and I and
- [00:02:01.670]and the students peers everybody is communicating with them and so we want everybody at the table
- [00:02:07.790]for our learners as well all special education services should be designed to promote access
- [00:02:13.630]and progress at grade level learning and then all educators can be successful in supporting
- [00:02:19.130]students with disabilities with the right supports and so often
- [00:02:23.130]the reasoning that we can't get at that grade level learning is because of the type of
- [00:02:30.130]teaching that we're doing with the those communication areas so we are going to work hard
- [00:02:37.230]to consider the students vocabulary and consider the the way we are coming about our teaching
- [00:02:44.590]learning.
