- [00:00:00.420]For over 60 years,
- [00:00:01.770]the Nebraska Council on Economic Education
- [00:00:04.110]has been the premier economic
- [00:00:06.180]and financial literacy education organization in Nebraska.
- [00:00:10.170]Each year we educate thousands of Nebraskans
- [00:00:12.960]on imperative life skills
- [00:00:14.520]in economics and personal finance.
- [00:00:17.262]We provide programming and statewide-reach
- [00:00:19.706]through our Centers for Economic Education
- [00:00:22.590]located at the University of Nebraska campuses in Kearney,
- [00:00:25.890]Lincoln, and Omaha,
- [00:00:27.510]and centers at state colleges in Chadron and Wayne.
- [00:00:31.507]The value of our partnerships cannot be overstated.
- [00:00:35.700]I love the council's ability
- [00:00:38.141]to interact with so many points in the state,
- [00:00:41.790]changing the world for these students
- [00:00:44.400]and these teachers and the communities,
- [00:00:46.977]and looking at how they can all be
- [00:00:48.750]a part of watching each other grow.
- [00:00:50.790]They do a lot of outreach and service
- [00:00:52.560]that engages with the K through 12 space,
- [00:00:55.324]as well as industry partners and prospective students.
- [00:01:00.480]And so, that really brings value to us
- [00:01:02.640]but it also brings value to the state.
- [00:01:04.950]And so, within the College of Business,
- [00:01:06.791]we believe that's so important to have
- [00:01:10.410]and educate the next generation on literacy
- [00:01:14.476]as it relates to both finance and economics.
- [00:01:18.510]The Nebraska Council on Economic Education
- [00:01:20.632]focuses on six key areas:
- [00:01:23.490]teacher professional development,
- [00:01:25.560]academic competitions, curriculum design,
- [00:01:28.650]content and standards consulting, advocacy,
- [00:01:31.677]and in-school savings programs.
- [00:01:34.470]Partial to me personally
- [00:01:36.030]and to the Nebraska Bankers Association
- [00:01:37.830]is the in-school savings banks,
- [00:01:39.660]really training kids to save,
- [00:01:41.530]training kids about the importance of a strong work ethic,
- [00:01:43.936]and then also being able to play that out
- [00:01:46.080]and educate their parents in some cases as well
- [00:01:48.300]about the importance of financial literacy
- [00:01:50.062]and the importance of savings.
- [00:01:51.739]It doesn't matter what grade your student is in,
- [00:01:54.660]they're gonna benefit from the NCEE.
- [00:01:57.241]From my perspective on developing teachers across the state,
- [00:02:01.618]the professional development that our teachers get
- [00:02:05.520]from the Nebraska Council
- [00:02:06.720]on Economic Education is invaluable.
- [00:02:10.500]We focus on teachers
- [00:02:11.598]because giving teachers the tools
- [00:02:13.590]to bring economics and personal finance to life
- [00:02:16.440]in their classrooms is the best value added.
- [00:02:18.951]There is no replacement for a great teacher.
- [00:02:22.020]By focusing on providing engaging content and curriculum,
- [00:02:26.236]we provide teachers the confidence
- [00:02:28.710]to improve student learning
- [00:02:30.164]and empower better decision-makers for life.
- [00:02:33.767]When you invest in the teacher,
- [00:02:36.088]you are investing in decades of service
- [00:02:38.847]and thousands of future students.
- [00:02:41.970]This puts the multiplier effect into action.
- [00:02:44.939]After completing the Personal Finance Institute,
- [00:02:47.150]it just made it a great experience for my students and me.
- [00:02:50.310]I just love helping them feel confident
- [00:02:52.110]in just their ability to manage money
- [00:02:53.760]and feel confident about what's ahead.
- [00:02:55.560]The council is very good at providing teachers
- [00:02:58.920]with resources that are timely and useful,
- [00:03:03.420]so that as a teacher,
- [00:03:04.253]I can use my time in other areas,
- [00:03:06.000]not searching or sifting through
- [00:03:07.327]information or lesson plans.
- [00:03:09.807]We make sure they're equipped with the means
- [00:03:11.910]by which to teach financial and economic disciplines
- [00:03:15.060]in the classroom through workshops, through seminars,
- [00:03:17.666]through hands-on learning,
- [00:03:19.470]so that then comes part of the classroom,
- [00:03:22.500]which the students touch, feel,
- [00:03:24.660]and try to make it in the most,
- [00:03:26.580]and a realistic form of learning.
- [00:03:29.610]I knew nothing about economics prior,
- [00:03:31.950]so I mean, I can honestly say I'm the teacher I am today
- [00:03:35.730]because of the council.
- [00:03:37.980]There's a great professional development for our staff,
- [00:03:41.430]and that manifests itself
- [00:03:43.140]in great opportunities for students.
- [00:03:45.410]The Nebraska Council on Economic Education
- [00:03:47.809]is educating today and shaping tomorrow.
- [00:03:51.120]We can't wait for you to join us in our mission.
