- [00:00:05.416]and we have recognized that we want to create better opportunities
- [00:00:08.166]for STEM equity and STEM literacy with our high school students at LPS.
- [00:00:13.916]We're doing a Vex Robots workshop today, where
- [00:00:16.833]we're creating opportunities for students to get hands on with robotics,
- [00:00:19.916]learn a little bit more about the educational opportunities
- [00:00:21.708]associated with it,
- [00:00:22.625]and possibly learn about the scholarships as well.
- [00:00:25.166]Yeah, because the cogs aren't moving at all,

- [00:00:28.750]-It's kind of like puzzles.
- [00:00:30.250]I like that feeling when you,
- [00:00:33.291]solve a puzzle and you get it all correct
- [00:00:35.166]and it all makes sense.
- [00:00:36.750]Transferring that into robots,
- [00:00:39.541]I like it when I create a robot or a program it.

- [00:00:44.750]-It's working as it's designed to, right?
- [00:00:47.541]That mouse was always supposed to, you know, straight.
- [00:00:50.333]It was never supposed to go straight.
- [00:00:52.083]-Sometimes STEM can seem really daunting, and robotics
- [00:00:55.458]is a pretty dynamic way to get involved in STEM.
- [00:00:58.250]Vex allows you to actually build and kind of play
- [00:01:01.375]with the engineering side of robotics.
- [00:01:03.583]So it's a great way to get the hands on learning.
- [00:01:05.958]-You know, it's a structural difference between the motor of this one
- [00:01:09.583]and the wheels and the motor, and that one of those wheels.
- [00:01:13.208]-To be honest, I've just always loved STEM education, STEM engagement.
- [00:01:16.500]I just think it's the most fun part about working with the students.
- [00:01:20.000]Because ultimately I think every student
- [00:01:21.458]likeS STEM, it just depends on how much exposure they've had so far.
- [00:01:25.291]But the opportunity for that experiential education
- [00:01:27.500]where they get to get hands on with the project,
- [00:01:29.000]I think that's the most exciting thing in the world as an educator.
