Organizations on the federal, state and local levels lack the support and recognition they need to help maintain a thriving and healthy community, leaving the public health system frequently underappreciated and unempowered. The challenge is to address the lack of awareness and negative perceptions that lead to decreased support for public health. The insight: The relationship between public health and the community is cyclical because opinions about public health influence funding and overall support. When the community supports public health systems, the organizations can implement initiatives that, in turn, benefit the community itself by fostering a safe and healthy environment in which people can thrive.
