[00:00:00.720]Welcome to Learning Communities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
[00:00:04.640]As part of Learning Communities at Nebraska, you have the option to join one of two types
[00:00:10.400]of amazing communities: Learning Communities or Themed Communities. Both offer exceptional
[00:00:16.000]opportunities for you to make the most of your first year at Nebraska. As part of our communities,
[00:00:21.920]you will live with and alongside other students who share your academic, career, and/or life
[00:00:27.520]interests or identities, creating a tight-knit community within your residence hall on campus,
[00:00:32.640]allowing you to have a support system from day one. You will learn alongside your fellow
[00:00:38.000]LC peers through shared courses ranging from general education to major- or career-specific
[00:00:43.760]seminars, providing you the opportunity to make sure you're doing well academically
[00:00:48.240]your first year. Themed communities do not share courses with one another, but you'll still have
[00:00:53.280]the support of your peers and a variety of faculty and staff to make sure you're doing
[00:00:57.280]well in your courses. And you will connect with students with similar interests, your peer mentor,
[00:01:04.240]and university faculty and staff who have an expertise or shared interest in your area.
[00:01:09.120]All these people will work alongside you to create worthwhile experiences and offer
[00:01:14.120]support throughout the year. By joining a community, you will build
[00:01:18.190]relationships with peers in your residence hall and major,
[00:01:21.630]achieve academic success through shared courses with your learning community,
[00:01:25.550]and explore career paths by participating in a variety of programs
[00:01:29.310]put on by your peer mentor and sponsor. Learning Communities at Nebraska provide
[00:01:35.070]many different programs to engage our students and provide the best experience
[00:01:38.830]possible. You'll enjoy social programs like our
[00:01:42.270]Welcome Event and Trivia Night where you and your friends can compete
[00:01:45.470]for amazing prizes, peer mentor-led floor study hours
[00:01:49.710]allowing you dedicated time to focus on your academics and get peer help when
[00:01:53.630]needed, and take trips to businesses and
[00:01:56.270]workplaces in the area to talk with industry professionals and tour their
[00:02:00.030]facilities, finding new opportunities for you to
[00:02:02.910]build your resume. You have the opportunity to apply to a
[00:02:07.150]Learning Community or join a Themed Community after you complete your housing
[00:02:11.070]application.
