[00:00:00.400]Around 80 years ago, a student named Don Clifton began a journey at the University of Nebraska
[00:00:05.840]that continues today with the Clifton Strengths Institute. Clifton studied education and
[00:00:11.360]psychology and went on to be a popular professor and research leader. At the core of Clifton's
[00:00:17.440]research was the question, "What will happen when we focus on what's right with people
[00:00:22.240]rather than fixating on what's wrong with them?" This question led the field of psychology in a
[00:00:28.080]more positive direction that continues to impact lives here at the University of Nebraska and
[00:00:33.680]around the world. Since 2015, the Clifton Strengths Institute has helped students stretch their
[00:00:40.160]strengths on the campus where strengths-based psychology first started. We have three main
[00:00:45.680]areas of focus: We work to ensure that every College of Business student has a welcoming
[00:00:51.440]and engaging developmental experience in their first few weeks on campus. We accomplish this
[00:00:57.440]through a required Investing in Strengths course. The course includes a weekly lecture and recitation
[00:01:04.080]as well as two 1:1 coaching sessions with our fantastic student strengths coaches.
[00:01:09.040]We also offer the Clifton Builders program, a selective three-year cohort program for students
[00:01:15.280]who focus on entrepreneurship, business, and education.
[00:01:16.500]and leadership on teams, in business, and in the community. Both of these programs
[00:01:23.000]are unique to Nebraska business. The Institute also helps spread the impact
[00:01:28.660]of strengths-based development across the university. Our team invests in a
[00:01:34.260]community of faculty and staff who are Gallup certified strengths coaches. We
[00:01:38.900]offer 1:1 coaching, workshops, and presentations to serve our colleagues
[00:01:43.460]and students throughout the university. The Clifton Strengths Institute seeks to
[00:01:48.680]be the model for strengths-based education. We regularly host visitors
[00:01:53.060]from other institutions who are interested in learning more about our
[00:01:56.480]program. We offer an engaging summer conference where hundreds of educators
[00:02:01.480]come together to share ideas and learn more about how to build a strengths-based
[00:02:05.620]mindset with their teams and in their classrooms. Students are at the heart of
[00:02:11.060]everything we do in the Clifton Strengths Institute.

[00:02:17.900]intentionally. Our students leave our programs more self-aware, confident, and
[00:02:22.960]ready to make a difference in the world.
