[00:00:00.000]Around 190 students from area Panhandle schools attended the annual Career Ag Day at the Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center in Scottsbluff.

[00:00:16.340]Kelly Downer, Senior Vice President with Platte Valley Bank, said the event helps present opportunities to youth in agricultural careers.
[00:00:25.340]So sometimes when people start thinking about agriculture, they're like, well, I don't want to grow a crop or I don't want to take care of cattle, right?
[00:00:33.380]So the goal of today is there is so much more to agriculture than that, right?
[00:00:38.680]We have a technology piece. We have feedlot piece. We have water piece.
[00:00:44.620]I mean, there's a lot involved from the banking aspect. There's so many different things, right?
[00:00:49.340]You can be involved in agriculture and still be the HR of your banking department.
[00:00:53.280]So it's just to introduce those kids.
[00:00:55.080]Like, hey, I'm going to do this.
[00:00:55.320]When you think agriculture, don't put on the blinders.
[00:00:58.400]There's a whole lot of opportunities there.
[00:01:01.160]Downer said the event also introduces the students to professionals in a career they may be interested in.
[00:01:06.960]I think the kids like the idea of, I get to go talk with somebody that's in that business, right?
[00:01:13.240]So it's one thing to think, yeah, I want to get into the banking world.
[00:01:16.980]Until you have that conversation with somebody and understand why they got into banking and what they're doing with banking,

[00:01:35.140]So there is an interest, and I appreciate the ag advisors for saying, hey, check this out.
