- [00:00:17.851]the opportunities I get with it as well as the people I get to
- [00:00:20.672]work with.
- [00:00:25.520]The future of UNL horse programs is now.
- [00:00:31.280]Equine leaders on East Campus are finding it hard to contain
- [00:00:35.417]their excitement for this game changing new facility.
- [00:00:39.680]Being able to bring the Equine Sports Complex to the University
- [00:00:43.753]of Nebraska Lincoln and is an amazing opportunity.
- [00:00:47.000]It's going to be instrumental for the success of our rodeo
- [00:00:51.104]program, our equine science program, our judging teams.
- [00:00:55.240]It's going to be able to help us expand our teaching and learning
- [00:00:59.080]platform around our equine science and it's also going to
- [00:01:02.454]connect with our professional program in veterinary medicine
- [00:01:06.003]and giving our pre veterinarians an opportunity to learn more
- [00:01:09.610]about equine, which is a growing industry here in the state of
- [00:01:13.276]Nebraska.
- [00:01:14.320]I think it's gonna be really beneficial in that we've kind of
- [00:01:18.322]maxed out our space that we have now and so being able to have
- [00:01:22.389]another facility to have more horses and more opportunities
- [00:01:26.262]for our students.
- [00:01:28.280]We're kind of stuck and only able to teach certain types of
- [00:01:31.246]classes cuz our horses have to do everything.
- [00:01:33.880]Whereas if we can have another facility, we can have young
- [00:01:38.259]horses and teach some training classes or we can have mayors
- [00:01:42.787]and potentially have hands on reproductive opportunities for
- [00:01:47.315]our students.
- [00:01:48.840]You know, it's really kind of funny because every year when I
- [00:01:51.258]do some extra course evaluations, the first thing
- [00:01:53.208]they always say is we want more hands on stuff.
- [00:01:55.080]We want to work with the horses more.
- [00:01:56.960]And so this arena, this facility now is pretty booked, pretty
- [00:02:00.567]well scheduled.
- [00:02:01.680]And so with an additional place that gives us more opportunities
- [00:02:04.823]to do either some mini courses, some more hands on things and
- [00:02:07.821]then we're going to go back up.
- [00:02:14.080]There's some magic behind the sport or rodeo and equal and
- [00:02:17.739]sports, Something about being on top of a horse and being in the
- [00:02:21.771]saddle that is good for the soul.
- [00:02:24.360]So giving these students who are dedicating their time to these
- [00:02:28.626]degrees and they have the additional opportunity to
- [00:02:32.093]compete in the sport of rodeo and learn more about the sport
- [00:02:36.160]of rodeo, it's a great investment in our future
- [00:02:39.360]generations.
- [00:02:40.600]That's one thing when you talk about student recruitment is is
- [00:02:43.940]I've always told students it has to feel like home for you and
- [00:02:47.280]has to feel like you can see yourself in that venue, in that
- [00:02:50.515]facility and on that campus.
- [00:02:52.240]And I think this will help us do that for rodeo students.
- [00:02:54.760]Absolutely.
- [00:02:55.840]It's going to be a great recruitment venue.
- [00:02:57.840]My goal is that all students that are interested in Equine
- [00:03:00.898]want to stay in the state of Nebraska and want to come to the
- [00:03:04.112]University of Nebraska Lincoln.
